Since the large majority (80-90%+) of GMO soy is fed to livestock, how does that affect our health? Is that the reason dairy from cows and other animals milk causes breast cancer? Or is it the hormonal estrogen naturally in other species mother's milk? What has a bigger negative impact to our health, hormonal or phyto-estrogen?

@@leviahimsa Cows/Cattle are ruminants, meaning their digestive system is highly specialized to allow the use of poorly digestible plants as food. Cattle have one stomach with four compartments, the rumen, reticulum, omasum, and abomasum, with the rumen being the largest compartment. The reticulum, the smallest compartment, is known as the "honeycomb". The omasum's main function is to absorb water and nutrients from the digestible feed. The omasum is known as the "many plies". The abomasum is like the human stomach; this is why it is known as the "true stomach". Which means cows/cattle digest soy 3 times, that means it goes trice through certain stomach acid of which the last is the most acidic. Which gives us the result! Drinking cow/cattle milk is way safer than drinking mass produced soy milk. I mean most of the milk you ordinary buy is made with milk powder anyway and sold as "high quality" or similar shenanigans. But still much safer than soy!

wrong wrong wrong. First off, all soy beans have phytoestrogens coming from isoflavones (which are anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory). secondly, they don't "mimic" estrogen hormone in the body. The phytoestrogen binds to the beta-receptor and our hormone binds to the alpa-receptor... they do not mimic each other, in fact it has been shown in several studies that phytoestrogens can prevent breast and prostate cancer.

But I have noticed some odd hormonal issues if i eat tofu, and I also know other vegans whom have issues too, and it's usually females whom seem sensitive. Most of the research I've found seems to be focused on men and how soy affects testosterone, but not much says about how soy affects a woman's estrogen levels and menstrual cycle, especially if she is already estrogen dominant (thanks to environmental toxins, plastics, etc).

I am on the road to a healthier life style, I decided to cut down heavily on my dairy, especially milk and have been drinking Silk instead, not all silk contains soy, my question is am I doing myself a disservice by drinking Silk? I use to average about a gallon of milk a week. Thanks for your help.

The "estrogen-like" molecules he's talking about actually don't act like estrogen in that they don't actually DO the work of estrogen. If anything, they act like estrogen in that they stick to estrogen receptors in the body thereby PREVENTING estrogen from doing the work it's supposed to, implying men don't become more like women! At the same time it doesn't mean women don't remain like women, it just means there's no INCREASED risk of estrogen-triggered breast cancer.
Sad to see such misinformation being spread by so-called "doctors".

Every food has "toxins" in it that are bad for you. It's best to not eat anything every single day. It's best to change what you eat very regularly. I try new foods all the time, but eat nothing all the time. Even the different varieties of plants we eat each have different self-protecting chemicals that can be harmful if any one is ingested regularly. Spinach for instance has lots of oxalic acid, grains and legumes have phytates. I personally get lots of bad reactions from grain and legumes, particularly in the form of inflammatory responses. I'm free of inflammation if I avoid them.

He never mentioned why organic, non fermented is bad whilst organic fermented is good...
Does fermentation destroy things in the soy that are bad? What about IGF1 levels? The phytoestrogens in soy increase IGF binding protein and so might reduce the IGF1 effects so if fermenting soy reduces phytoestrogens then perhaps it also reduces IGF binding protein and so increasing cancer risks. Surely it's another case of 'eat in moderation'? Don't have lots of soy or lots of fermented soy, just try to have it sometimes and make sure it's organic and mostly unprocessed

Dr. Axe, isn't Natto made with non-organic GMO soy? The only places I can find it is at Asian supermarkets, and ingredient labels just say 'soy', with no mention of being organic or non-GMO.?? So it must be GMO and Not organic.?. Does the fermentation negate any of the negative effects of that? And if not, since portion is so small (with a tiny pinch of soy sauce) would eating like every other day or just twice a week to get the probiotics and K2 be a good thing to do? or would you recommend just avoid it altogether??? Thanks in advance.

People who eat more Natto than other area of Japan is where the weather is colder such as Shinsyu or Tohoku, not Okinawa, the most southern, hottest place in Japan. I live in Ireland.
    * Is your soy resource based from USA where probably soy is GAO modified more then in Europe?
*Also if soy products, milk ect... have labeled Organic. Is it safer to drink ? Does organic mean its not GAO modified?
*And about these phytoestrogen. Doesnt meter if you drink organic not organic, the phytoestrogen is still there?
*To sum up:? Try to avoid soy milk and try to use Coconut, almond, hazelnut milk...
And have to say really like your video. Well presented and informative.
    Thank you Lenka,

Hi Dr Axe, Thank you for all the informative videos that helps people to better look after their health.
Maybe you want to know some extra information from the locals.
I grew up in Japan and had more cooked soy than natto, and this is the case for the majority of Japanese regardless which part of Japan they live. However traditionally Natto is NOT consumed by people living west of Japan although nowadays everyone knows it's good for you so more people in the western part of Japan (eg. Kyoto, Osaka) are eating them now. The other fermented soy they eat, not a lot but everyday, is miso, also soy sauce is used for almost every cooking. One big difference when it comes to how the soys are used in food in western countries to Japan is that Japanese don't use much processed soy, like soy flour. The whole beans are soaked in water for few hours and cooked with sea vegetables and things, with a bit of sugar and soy sauce. Japanese do not drink soy milk either (though in recent years influence from the West is causing them to drink soy milk) but it's made into tofu which is 'processed' food. Eating habit is different too, so unlike western diet, tofu is not served like a main as in beef steak, but it's cut into small pieces for miso soup and other dishes. If it's a stand alone dish like 'hiya-yakko (cold tofu)" again it's a part of a la carte meal in Japanese style so it's never a soy as main and nothing else. I guess it's very much to do with what people eat with soy and how they eat, how much and how often eat, seem to be one of the keys.

Doctor... I'm sorry but if you qualify as a doctor i weep for whatever educational system you got your degree from. phytoestrogens do not give you feminine characteristics unless you completely overdose on soy at every single meal. the studies in which they demonstrated the effect used abnormally large amounts of soy; soy consumption in Asian countries is much higher yet they suffer no adverse effects. Combined with the fact than you are completely ignorant about GMO's is enough to lose all credibility. what's nexts? how we should all go gluten free? a video about how evil Insulin is? maybe a snake oil pitch?

Wizard Works sorry, buy nothing you have said is factual in any way. Asians soy consumption is majority fermented, which reduced isoflavone content, and outside of that fact, average consumption is only around 10 grams per day. There is no 'special asian soy' , they have simply understood the effects of non fermented soy for thousands of years.
