How Predator Priests Avoid Jail | System Error

  • On January 20, an inquest in Germany found that Pope Benedict knew about priests who abused children but failed to act.
    Now, cases against the Catholic Church over child sex abuse are growing in the United States.
    Pope Francis has promised “decisive action” on the issue and encouraged the reporting of allegations.
    But survivors’ advocates allege that the church and its lobbyists oppose legislation that could allow more victims to come forward, and fight against the disclosure of important documents.

    I’m from Boston and these priests ruined whole communities. The ones who didn’t commit suicide because of their abuse went on to drugs. A lot of them end up becoming the predator too. It’s disgusting and this needs to be addressed, life sentences for anyone who raped a kid no matter how long ago it was.

      The only way to get them to confess is by talking to them in person where they think they’re safe. Cause if someone admits to raping a child in public, they know exactly what’s going to happen them or that it’s going to be worse than they can imagine.

      it's so that people feel comfortable going to confession knowing that the priest isn't allowed to repeat what you said. you might not like it but it protects gay people among other groups in the church. if someone confesses a crime the priest will tell them to self report to the police and forbid them from receiving communion until they do so, which can be very effective for a religious person. don't talk down on things you don't understand, it's a sign of low intelligence.

    • @SmokeyTube
      @SmokeyTube 2 года назад +5

      @@ugiboogy1111 Confessions can have the exact opposite effect. First of all, being gay isn't a crime in the civilized world, so this confession rule isn't helping any gay people. Secondly, confessions take the guilt away from a person who has done a crime. Once that criminal has gotten his stresses off his chest, he will walk about freely and happily without a care in the world.

    • @ugiboogy1111
      @ugiboogy1111 2 года назад +5

      @@SmokeyTube Actually, a priest can't release the sin unless the person does penance depending on how serious it is. The priest would say that the sin isn't forgiven unless the criminal turns himself in, and then spends many years repenting and paying back what he did. Someone who touched a child might spend decades going to confession and doing penance, but ultimately might not be forgiven after death. It's not something we can say because only God knows whether that person truly felt bad, paid back his debt to the victim, and never did that again. You have a fundamental misunderstanding of confession and repentance.
      Also, there are many gay people in the church, many choosing to live celibate lives as nuns, priests, etc. Being gay isn't "a crime" in the church, it's the action of gay s@x that is a sin, just like any other sex outside of marriage. Those people that are gay but find value and life in the church, might come to confession to talk through their feelings and temptations on certain topics. For example, someone addicted to gay porn might come to confession and the priest will advise him how to stop to improve his life. Obviously, if the priest gossiped about this it could ruin that person's life or embarrass them. They wouldn't come unless they knew the priest wouldn't tell anyone.

My grandmother's sister stopped going to church because a priest held her back after mass and started touching her inappropriately (happened when she was in her early teens). If our 'creator' were to stand here today, my guess? ...no where near what you thought 'he' would be. Funny that God is a he, no?
      Religion is bred into people, not the other way around. Everything you hear about God is humans talking with no God to back it up whatsoever. You're following a murderous cult, no matter how 'peaceful' you live your life, facts. If God is real, then so are the other 500 gods. So needy to believe in fairytales, truly stunning. All those dead people in the name of God(s), and people still have the audacity to claim 'peaceful'. You conscider yourselves lambs of God, but that would make you what ? Yes...a sheep. Or is that a convenient metaphor too? Ask some deeper questions, et voila, the metaphors come out so quick it's hilarious.
      It's called population control, because you're not capable of asking the right questions anymore.

      I may be mistaken if I misunderstood your statement, but if you are referring to separation of church and state, at least from a north american point of view, means separating religion from the government processes like making laws.
      Religious figures and followers are subject to the laws of where they live, or they should be at least.

    • @brucefulcher2191
      @brucefulcher2191 2 года назад +4

      @Gilbert Chen I understand the concept of separation of church and state for the purpose of keeping Church ideals out of government and law.
      What I find interesting is that we still give things like Catholic churches special conditions when it comes to evaluating investigations by the government or law enforcement.
      Some church agencies seem to have diplomatic immunity when it comes to certain types of information that gets to be kept confidential.
      If I am understanding you correctly I believe we agree. I think that all churches in all states should be subject to the exact same laws as the buildings surrounding them.
      Religion would make an ok history course to take, but it cannot be this legal loophole for laundering money and getting away with illegal things under the cover of religious protections

If one has serious issues within themselves, then they should at least rehabilitate themselves first, or at least be ready to accept that parenting is a taxing obligation that anyone without sound mental health might find very difficult. Nobody wants that trouble.
      Also, to clear things up, the priest guy I was talking about wasn't Christian. He was of a Jehova-Witness-like sect. That "Rite of the First Night" passage was indeed done cuz the guy who did it was recently arrested for it. He didn't face prison cuz the girls were 18+ and "consented" to this. Pretty sure he had some younger girls, too, but that guy is also rich and could afford a good lawyer, I guess.

    Point 2: a lot of people are born psycho, with a twisted mind, a lot of them are able to hide it and lock it deep inside only because they have an average loving family, either when they were young or once they are married.

Catholics see confessing their sins as a very important ritual, hence the secrecy of it is sacred and that's why they supposedly want to keep it secret.
    HOWEVER! Parishioners have long been telling church authorities about abuse OUTSIDE of confessional. It's really comparing apples and oranges. Sending a letter to the bishop telling him he's wrong is not a sacred rite of the Church. I'm disappointed the video completely glosses over this.

      @@wishpunk9188 You left comments claiming Vice is spewing propaganda but only on Vice videos about Trump. You suddenly say "Yes Vice you're doing good work!" when they report on something negative in Africa. You're clearly clueless and racist.
