    Heads up 90% of comments are opinions worded as facts from most likely 12 year olds who don't have a license or let alone can afford an STI.

    my family has more than 20 years of Subaru, those cars are fantastic regardless of anything that any one says, well built, safety, handling, price, power, history, average age (yeah the engine is old BUT its not a biggy to rebuild it) .... to me its perfect and I love my 14 legacy, 16 wrx and 07 Sti

      Subaru for some reason only offers the Recaro seats on the premium model WRX but not the limited. If you want the Harmon Kardon then you can only get it with the limited. As a owner of a 16 WRX, I can say you definitely want the Harmon Kardon since the base system even with the kicker upgrade sounds horrible. I just wish Subaru wouldn't make getting what you want virtually impossible.

      Replacing the interior isn't really a option and I took my car to a car audio shop. They said replacing the head unit was the only thing they could do to improve the sound. Most android auto head units don't allow full function of the steering wheel controls and the usb/aux in the console. I really didn't want to change anything even though the head unit is garbage.

    Agree with the calipers! They look awesome in that black STI! And it's like you said it, it's a nice STI touch! 'Bout the engine, I know is outdated, but damn, those new boxer equal leghted headers F20's sound really boring and lifeless compared to the EJ series... plus who cares if it's only 305hp hp still? Those engine can handle double hp nicely with some mods! Favorite car ever!

    I know this car is dated (we have a 2017 ) but its' built like s tank and very reliable. When ever I get out (which is quite a bit ) in the open I don't hesitate to jump on the throttle and when I do the turbo spools up very quickly...Personally I can do without that cartoonish rear wing and the clutch is little heavy but other than that it's still a fun car.

    Hey Torque junkie I've got my hands on a S.T.I 2017 I've found the clutch to be sticky coming out of 1st starting out, and seemingly not all there placing it into 3rd either down shifting or from 2nd to 3rd shifting normal? also I don't seem to notice any different switching to sport#
    And yes the chassis is stiff but It doesn't bother me as a daily commute. I had a Brz and the handling was much sharper and of course the hp was usable Now; with that being said the car too me drives just past borderline sedan like and I appreciate it. Nice car & I'm interested in what Subaru has in sore next for these cars

  • @brandonsever2576
    @brandonsever2576 7 лет назад

    Someone needs to swap a V9 JDM EJ207 into this car. It would probably make it smoother and more reliable. Equal length headers and a twin scroll turbo, without the direct injection that the FA's have been having issues with, sounds like the perfect package to me. And who's gonna argue with an 8250 rpm redline?

  • @joaocanadaa

    People need to inform themselves. The STi is not getting a new engine until 2020, when the new generation STi is released till then Subaru will stand loyal to their model and to those who purchased the current generation like me back in 2016. Do you know why many american vehicles and many japanese devalues so quickly? they change their models every 2-3 years. Subaru usually holds a model to about 5 years before making something completely new. Yes the car is crying for drastic changes, the engine is veryyy old but yet is nostalgic to hear the boxer rumble which the new WRX does not have. and those who say the STi brand died when they made the hatch has short term memory loss. tell me another generation of Impreza WRX STi that was hatchback. STi is coupe/Sedan with Tokyo drifty massive spoiler... don't believe me go on wikipedia

    Unless something has changed I do not think that "adding a wing" has any effect on the price. I believe the wing is standard unless you choose a "wing delete", which I was told this does not reduce
    the cost of the vehicle LOL

      +ChiSpire the base model now comes without the wing

    • @Real_MisterSir
      @Real_MisterSir 7 лет назад

      I believe that's a special case then. Everywhere I've seen, the new STI (and every STI before it) is always offered with the wing as standard, and a no cost option to remove it. Maybe depending on where you live it might be vice versa, the base car is without wing, and the wing is a no cost extra..

    • @flatmotion1
      @flatmotion1 7 лет назад

      well the base sti has nothing where I can buy it. If you get the higher ups you can choose between the lip and the wing, at least where I'm getting it.

    • @ChiSpire
      @ChiSpire 7 лет назад

      Torque Junkies don't think so, I was just at dealership last month getting oil changed, they had a 2018 STI base with wing. There was no mention of adding a wing on the window sticker. Also I just went to Subarus website and chose to build a base 2018 STI. The different pictures for it clearly shows the wing, so sorry but I think you are wrong.
      Ironically I believe for 2016 and 2017 you could only get a wing delete from factory if it was the Limited model, I never quite understood the reasons behind that.

      Not very good. It's a older low compression engine with a single scroll turbo that really needs to be kept at a higher engine speed for maximum fun. I get around 20-ish MPG on average...that would be much better if I drove the car more conservatively, but these cars are so much fun that it's hard to resist spirited driving. 93 AKI is preferable over 91 AKI if available in your area.

    The clutch is stiff like a performance car? I own one (STI) and I don't believe he's operated anything before his life time. i.e. 1997?? give or take. shit, my 2001 t/a ws6 was way more stiff than my current STI. Try a '64 Impala SS (built, manual clutch) in MSP rushour. Left calf get big real quick.

      You are comparing it to older cars, try comparing it to new cars, even the camaro ss has a lighter clutch!

    Anyone whose anyone knows that drilled rotors are not the way to go for the track. Weaken over time, then they crack. Should of mentioned that.

    • @TorqueJunkies

      RevzyuuSTI really? Then why do so many performance cars have them?

    • @RevyM3
      @RevyM3 7 лет назад +6

      If it were drilled carbon ceramics I'd say other wise. These are only put on for ooohh and aahh purposes to attract buyers.

    • @DespaceMan
      @DespaceMan 7 лет назад +2

      RevzyuuSTI + Nothing wrong with drilled rotors for track days you just need to remember to switch off the ABS then you're fine. But yes with those yellow calipers & the cross drilled rotors are diffidently for marketing purposes, they could have just fitted slotted rotors would have been fine.

    • @hallkbrdz
      @hallkbrdz 7 лет назад +3

      For looks, nothing more. Slotted rotors are better as they don't introduce weak spots and still help to get water out from under the pad.

      the holes make the discs weak because they are more prone to cracking where the material is thin between the holes. Actually if you look closely, many race cars ditch the drilled discs and opt for solid ceramic discs instead because they tolerate extensive use much better. It obviously depends on the kind of racing you are doing, one might be better than the other depending on the conditions you race in.
      Most street performance cars use drilled discs for show off effect because they are not meant for extensive racing anyways (hence "street car"). No public road conditions would allow you to reach the limit of drilled ceramic discs anyways, so every manufacturer offers drilled ones for the "wow" effect - not for actual performance gains.

    I agree with some of theses comments. Subaru has lost its way. I need my 2011 WRX to last because I will no longer buy another one thanks to putting in an optional automatic transmission in the 2015 and up. STI and WRX was more exclusive before. Now a 16 year old girl and my grandma can both get one with no knowledge of how to actually drive a vehicle. No thanks.

    Would you really give up the rumble for a new engine? You guys are all talking out of your asses and never heard a stage 2 WRX with the FA motor in person. My buddies WRX sounds like a riced out 1999 Civic without the rumble.

    still the same boring 300hp... djeezes. gearbox and engine+handling are most important things in these types of cars...
    handling is great ( instead of understeer (still!!!! ) ) gearbox is good, however outdated, the engine..well lets just not talk about the dinosaur engine.

    Stock Subaru STI models should have 400 horses by now and WRX should be around 300. Less STI badges and more HP/Torque! Keeping with the original 300 hp is a big mistake and they are losing performance ground. There should be some options for more power as almost everything else about the car has changed or improved, including the price. I own an 05 and that is seriously keeping me from getting a newer STI.

    Although I still enjoyed watching this review. It has the same thing wrong with it that many reviews have. The person doing the review has no knowledge of the car or the previous gens. Unfortunately this leaves the people looking at actually purchasing this vehicle with false information. Which in a sense makes the review useless. Please do research on the vehicle and the previous gens before you attempt to review it. It seems like you walked into the dealership and they gave you some half ass information about the 2018 and you just went with it.
