i always used to tense up, then i started telling my hands to ‘play’ the keys, not massage them, not press them; just relax your hands and fly them over the keys without trying to feel each one

You can compare her to Usain Bolt. Her hands have the perfect physique, cuppled with amazing talent and she started at the age of four. Its amazing, if you start so early your brain is treating piano almost like your native language.

To me it sounds like interdimensional travel. I guess death is a portal to that, so I can see someone getting there. This is a war song, but it also goes perfect with medieval vampire stuff, which includes romance, moonlight, castles, and a struggle to escape.
Apart from the perfect rhythm that her hands move with, and the way she can play so evenly and make it look effortless, it is amazing how much musical expression Valentina Lisitsa is able to put into all her music, with very little of it reflecting on her face.
In this performance she actually chose quite a modest tempo and I think it was a great artistic decision. Hers is one of the most emotional, romantic performances on youtube

I love how "separate" the left and right hands are in this piece-- when the left hand goes down, the chords in the right hand go up; the left hand plays sixteenth notes while the right hand plays quarter notes and half notes. One thing that I love about how she plays the left hand is that it doesn't seem like separate sixteenth notes, it sounds like one fluid motion. To me, this piece sounds like a bold ship sailing through a thunderstorm.

Ok, whoever disliked this is obviously not a piano student; this étude is extremely difficult to play. On a good day I can barely play this up to speed. Very clean, very feminine performance. Evgeny Kissin plays it as Liszt might have played it (Chopin wrote: "I wish I could steal from him the way to play my own Etudes!") She plays it as Chopin might have. (She even has Chopin's nose :-) )
I personally think valentina played it better but that might have been because when I saw evgeny kissin play it the only thing I could focus on was his afro bouncing aaaaaaaaaall over the place

Powerfull piece. Just beautifull. Sounds as if it was composwed in a moment when Chopin was angry at life and all which was happening around him. I love the way Valentina plays such an angry piece with so much softness.

En 1830 despues de terminar sus estudios musicales, dejó Polonia y fue a Viena, una semana despues la insurrección estalló en Varsovia, empezó la revolución del 29 de Noviembre. Never play so fast that you are tense. Play slowly and relaxed until you gain enough fluency to speed it up.

Quiero responder a Robert Barrios pues me parece muy interesante su pregunta sobre el estudio Revolucionario de Chopin, lo voy hacer en una resumida y pequeña biografia del músico.Frédéric Chopin, nacio en Zelazowa-Wola el 1 de Marzo ( en su partida de nacimiento consta, sin embargo el 22 de Febrero ) de 1810, cerca de Varsovia. En 1830 despues de terminar sus estudios musicales, dejó Polonia y fue a Viena, una semana despues la insurrección estalló en Varsovia, empezó la revolución del 29 de Noviembre. Su padre le aconsejó que no volviera. Viajó a Munich, y en Stuttgart se enteró de la capitulación de Varsovia. Las páginas de su diario de Stuttgart, expresan su desesperación. El sentimiento nacionalista fue algo importante para Chopin, el cual fue un patriota convencido que siempre se identificó con la causa del pueblo polaco. El Estudio en do menor Revolucionario Op. 10 nº 12, fue escrito por el músico cuando se hallaba fuertemente impresionado por los acontecimientos que se desarrollaban en Varsovia, tradujo esta atmósfera de tensión visionaria y apocalíptica.
Entre 1832 y 1834 acabó y publicó el primer cuaderno de 12 Estudios Op. 10, dedicado a Liszt.
En octubre de 1837 apareció el segundo cuaderno de Estudios Op. 25, dedicado a Marie d ' Agoult.
Chopin nunca pudo volver a su patria. Murió en Paris el 17 de Octubre de 1849.
Gracias de verdad por tomarse el tiempo de explicarme, me acerca un tanto a lo que implica el sentimiento patrio de Chopin expresado como él sólo lo sabía hacer, por medio del piano. Es una lástima que este instrumento me haya sido esquivo todo el tiempo. Yo hace 7 meses estaba trabajando a la par de mis estudios de química, ahorraba para obtener un piano Casio Celviano, pero sufrí un desafortunado atraco de celular, lo di de voluntad e igual me pegaron una puñalada que me ha dejado prácticamene sin poder de flexión en el dedo índice de la mano izquierda. Cuando tenía manos, no tenía dinero, y cuando empecé a ahorrarlo trabajando, me dañan las manos por un pinche cel. Ahora mi guitarra es comida del polvo. Saludos.
