- White Sands National Park is located in New Mexico and is home to the largest collection of gypsum sand dunes in the world. The park feels like something from another planet and it is a great spot for sledding, hiking, and exploring this natural wonder. We hiked every trail in the park and spent time sledding so we could show you what to do on a day in White Sands National Park.

The best part is the bonding with your pops.
During the summer, on nights with a full moon, they put on an evening music show. People bring chairs, pack a dinner, and watch the sun set, while the full moon rises and you listen to music. It is a fantastic experience!
When does that start
Wow! So cool.
@elwoodmr
I didn’t know that people can play music at White Sand National Park on a full moon.
Love how you travel, and bond with your father. Simply wonderful!!! Five miles hiking in sand dunes is quite the workout.
I went here with my mom in January. It was amazing! Drove from St. Louis to Albuquerque and all around New Mexico on a spur of the moment trip and its one I'll remember FOREVER!!
That's awesome!!!
Man those of you who can enjoy your dad it’s beautiful to see someone who loves them and enjoy each other just saying since I couldn’t live that same experience i try with my daughters so enjoy! Your not too old
Just came back from White Sands and it was gorgeous. Like you Josh, during a hike, I found myself all alone out in the sand dunes and it felt so peaceful. And I agree that the sunset is the best I've seen in a national park. Loved the colors - pink and orange. Your video was a wonderful reminder of my time there.
Was that border patrol checkpoint still there on the 70? That was one of the weirdest things, running into a checkpoint right outside of a national park. Can't remember if it was a little north or south of the park entrance.
Grew up in el paso. My father was part of the team that tested and perfected the guidance and control systems for the lunar landing model. We went many times to white sands often just a Sunday drive. My childhood memories are full of days in white sands as well as many visits to Carlsbad caverns, and Juarez. Hiking the Franklin mountains to waco tanks. Riding the tram. And Ascarity park. And broild shrimp from the Oasis drive in. While listening to Steve Crosnos .😎 let's not forget watching the filming of The Getaway and the Ever Shining Star of Texas on the side of the mountain. 😎
I really appreciate you always saying about places being wheelchair friendly. What a beautiful place
When I was a kid in the 50s we used to go to White Sands for picnics while we were staying in Ruidoso. We would have a fire and stay well after dark playing in the moonlight in the white sand. It was one of my favorite things to do back then. There were far fewer people then. Yes, and the sunsets were gorgeous.
11:46 That Sunset was beautiful
It’s very nice to see how father Son travel together , we always enjoy all you videos , we learn a lot from hidden Places, and you videos are quality , keep travel and enjoy
I just saw this place with my son last week....Amazingly beautiful place!

Went to white sands today. Just used the sleds laying around. Didn’t know about the wax. They sell it in the gift shop for three dollars, it would’ve been worth it! Next time I’ll do it right😂 thanks for the great video! I should’ve watched it before I got there😊
So beautiful, thanks for sharing
No problem! Thanks for the comment
Never heard nor seen white sand dunes or desert. Thanks for sharing. Looks like snow.
Great video! It’s been on my bucket list for some time along with Carlsbad caverns! You captured it brilliantly. It’s really great to see the nature’s play to create such a huge sand dunes! I have been to Colorado’s sand dunes, but this is magnificent 😊👍
oh yes the carlsbad cavern is excellent! Definitely walk down into it and ride the elevator out.
Thanks so much for the comment. It really is worth the trip to experience this park. I have a video on Carlsbad I plan to put up next week too!
sick video, so cool!
Great vid! ty
I went here last month! It's awesome to see someone else's perspective. Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Too bad the visitor center is restricted by Covid. The museum explains the natural processes (about ten of them) that have to occur in a specific order to form the dunes. The dune field covers 275 square miles, and is the largest of only a handful of gypsum dune fields in the world. The next largest is near Carlsbad, NM, and covers only 4 square miles, so White Sands is truly a special place. Glad to see you guys enjoying it so much. I volunteered at the monument when my wife and I lived in Alamogordo for 10 years. WS is my favorite place on earth, and that's saying a lot, since I've been to several parks, including Carlsbad, Mammoth, and Wind caves, Glacier, Rocky Mountain, Arches, Badlands, and Yellowstone. I know that's far from seeing all the wonderful national parks, but it's enough to make me certain that something about those dunes is truly captivating. Thanks for sharing your fun! Oh, and if you ever go back, make sure it's mid-July. Take twice as much water as you think you'll need, along with sunscreen and a good hat, and walk onto the dunes at high noon when the temperature is 110F. You will not burn your feet! Seriously, you won't. Gypsum reflects the heat. But if you do that, be careful. While I volunteered there, a 23 year old nurse died from dehydration on the Alkali Flat Trail. The dunes are beautiful, but will quickly take your life away if you are not super careful.
It was raining lightly from Hurricane Harold from Texas, and almost no one was there, but very magical, like walking on another planet. The 15 minute movie in the visitors center was excellent background.
This is for my geography project bae, tysm for this i'll get an A+
How did I miss this video?? Looks like a lot of fun.....
Love New Mexico!! So glad you got to visit. Please tell me you went go Carlsbad Caverns too??

Awesome thanks for sharing
I love that your Dad actually did some sledding!
Me too!
Worked there the summer of '87. Fun to see what has changed and what hasn't. Don't miss Full Moon Nights if they still have them.
You did it once again Josh, just added this one to my bucket list
Very kind of you! I hope you can visit the park!
@@ThroughMyLens thanks for responding back, reading your reply back really made my night as I am a huge fan of your content. I have been following your videos for a long time now as I have been following your recommendations for example the trips I taken in route 66, Seattle, okc, Salton sea, Portland, death valley & Joshua tree, Santa fe, Chicago, Salt Lake city and many more. I just love how you come up with these great attractions and then add them to the flow in your videos to make the great content you do, that's what makes me love your channel so much. Look forward to future videos as I definitely will check out White Sand Dunes in the same exact order you did 😁. And by the way you and your dad make a great team ( there's nothing more rewarding then a father and son bonding moments. )
