    ……..
    Review Pros :
    Good quality
Size and weight isn’t bad considering this is a car camping tent. I’ve read reviews where people are complaining about backpacking with this tent…..which is pretty funny.
With my testing this tent has been 100% waterproof.
Fast setup and breakdown. The keyword is can be; there is a con here; with the popup and breakdown mechanism, it can be a bit finicky and if you aren’t careful you can get it misaligned.
Also, it isn’t always easy to get it locked or to unlock the mechanism.
The cord on top of the locking mechanism can get stuck in the setup mechanism if you aren’t careful.
    Good color options
    Review Cons :
No way to pull the fly out and away from the tent body - because of this condensation control could be better with this tent. The fly will often times lay on the mesh of tent
Lack of vents and again, no way to pull the fly away from the body on all sides means that ventilation doesn’t rate very high.
I spoke of the issues with setting up and breaking down the tent. The mechanism isn’t the smoothest or the easiest to use.
Fly can come into contact with the tent body and if you have this tent sealed up and condensation has formed on the fly, it can run down tent body or even fall into the tent.
Due to the plastic and fiberglass frame, I would recommend being careful and setting up the tent and breaking it down delicately. There are plenty of reports of these tents breaking….I haven’t had any issues yet but I have been careful with it.
    Summary :
All in all I like this tent but I don’t love it; the quality is good, it’s waterproof but as is, it isn’t the best tent for locations that receive a lot of rain and that’s because of the poor ventilation and condensation control.

After seeing your initial video on this tent, I decided to buy it. I was very impressed with the quality, waterproofness, and price. Nothing in this review makes me have second thoughts. I intend to use it mainly for car camping and I will put my own guyout lines on it and use those tarp clips. It should work very well with those modifications, which only cost a few bucks.

The one-person Vista tent looks very interesting to me working in conjunction with the x-large Teton Sports cot which I already own. I like the looks of the long fly for use with the cot. Good to know it is good quality. Good suggestion with the tarp clips. Thanks for this review.

I just had mine out this weekend and for $103 it was worth it for the reduced time of setup and takedown. Great tent, I picked up mine after your initial review of the tent and I'm glad I did. I can confirm the waterproof-ness and quality of the tent, but it's definitely not a backpacking tent by any means. Thanks Luke for the review.

Bought a Mt Ultra 2 from TS at Christmas. First night out water all over the floor only. Hold it up to light and looked like Swiss cheese. Emailed them and got a replacement for that part. So far no leaks but not really raining here. TS was good on emails and responding to my concerns. Great job Cullen!

Tarp clips! That's exactly what I need for the fly on my Napier truck bed tent. They give you a nice big mesh window but the fly gets pressed against the tent body and seals up when the wind blows on it, stopping airflow. Those clips will work perfectly! As for the name, I'd say they're thinking like a "quick hike" as in not far in. Because yeah, that tent is monstrous. But if you're going backpacking you're probably not as concerned with fast setup as you are with weight, packed size, and performance. This should make a good, cheap car camping tent with the mods you listed. Atleast its waterproof. That's more than most cheap tents offer!

I got it. I think the cons are easy to sort out. Make an anchor for the front and back sides to use some guy lines to create space off the interior layer. Buy better stakes and guy lines for the 4 points they have on the exterior. After carefully looking at it and feeling how it opens I figured out the least effort way to open with minimal stress to the parts. Grab top poles, 2 thumbs for bottom poles, minimum force. Looking at an extra $20 and maybe 1 hours of work. Also, the first horizontal seam off the ground is not taped, so I got some sealant for that to ensure my feet will stay dry when brushing against the wall (I'm 5'11"). Thanks for the review, I was considering applying water repellant right away but it looks good enough to hold off on that.

Great review! I’ve no experience with this brand but seems like it’s a few tweaks away from being a good beginner car camp tent.
Back in the early 2000’s I had a 10x10’ pop up tent by a brand called Hillary. I loved it. It was great for car camping because of the ultra quick setup/teardown and was big enough I could stand up inside of it to get changed. I had to put it out to pasture a few years ago because the polyester material just started to break down and it was no longer waterproof. Long story short- the pop-ups do have a place for the weekend warrior car camping.

As always Luke, great review. I agree on the cons. Very simple things which certainly should not have been missed. I also cannot understand why companies, especially Teton Sports would cheap out on the stakes. Nature Hike shorted me 2 tent stakes on a tent, then refused to supply them. I returned the tent. That cost them my business on ANY of their products and I happily let anyone in speaking distance know this. Good news travels fast, but bad news, faster and further.

I have the one person version of this with the cot. I had a great night of sleep in it, mostly because of the mat and the cot, but there was quite a bit of condensation because we were near a river. If it isn't going to rain you can keep the vent and the door open and that might help. The one person was just a hair short for me, I'm 6'2" tall, so my feet would touch the wall of the tent and get some condensation on my bag if I wasn't careful. If it was the only tent I would be buying, I would pass on it. I bought it because I have many other tents and wanted to try something new and liked the cot set up option. I will definitely go car camping with it again some time but I have several other, much, much lighter and smaller options for hiking.

I’ve first owned the 1 person vista maybe a year and a half to 2 years ago and I especially loved it with the cot and had zero issues. A year ago I got the Vista 2 person and have been using it since. I live in the pacific where the humidity is high, and it always rains on a near daily basis and yet I have had no issues. As I’ve said in a previous post on another of your reviews, I like some of your reviews and take most of your reviews with a grain of salt, and this is one with salt. I’ve backpacked the vista 2 across the top of my backpack, and although it’s a bit wide, I had no issues as I’m a muscular polynesian with wide shoulders. I love my vista 1 and vista 2 although they are a bit small it’s been great in keeping me out of the weather. At the price of the Vista 1 and Vista 2 you can’t go wrong. Buy the Vista 1 for a kid and use the vista 2 as a one person like I do and you’ll be a happy camper lol

Outstanding review! I'm a dedicated cheap tent enthusiast. For decades I bought only high quality tents; little weight, lots of cost. Then in 2006 I found the perfect place to pitch up for an entire season ( April- late October ) outside an idyllic Colorado ski town. I camped there for 13 seasons, and hope to return when familial obligations are sorted out. One problem with life at 9000 feet in Colorado is that this is black bear country, and black bears love destroying tents. Expensive tents made for bike travelers are not the preferred choice. Cheap tents fill the bill. They're often larger to. Something I don't mind at all. It's nice, when returning to camp in the evening, and finding my tent destroyed by some passing bear, to have my traveling tent rolled up there, ready for use. The next day, I'll just order another cheap tent from Amazon. Cheap tents have their purpose, like a base camp, a few miles from an idyllic town with a lot of bears.

Decathlon has a similar "umbrella" style of quick-setup hubs, but they're on the inside of the integrated rain fly so the mechanism can't jam up because of crap getting in between. They're also big and heavy -- if a company were to make an ultralight version of this setup mechanism they would have a killer product on their hands.

A bit bulky but if you travel light with other items it wasn't bad but definitely not a tent for ultra light backpacking. It has worked well in the seven trips last year with two involving rain and light winds. I think its a good system but it has some limitations for sure. You are definitely NOT going to hike anywhere with the cot system!!

That pop up locking mechanism is used in a few generic mozzie dome tents over here in Australia....I have found them all to be a bit problematic to use...especially during pack up!

Teton Sports stand behind their warranty. Good company to deal with. Their products are a bit on the heavy side, but they hold up well. This includes the backpacks.

Question? Why don't most of these tents have a built in, slightly insulated, and waterproof floor? It can't weigh that much more. And it would help keep moisture, wind, and bugs out. I just don't get it. Great show. I'm handicapped now. And I live vicariously through your adventures. Also love the TLC. They were great looking in the 90's, and still are. Is yours a 4X4? Can you help us out on what EDC light's we should buy? What's your favorite ration? Is their times when u carry a weapon? Are you think about tweeking the suspension, and upgrade your fog lamps so you could take us on a night time trail blaze in your TLC. Thanks a lot. Buy the way. Doesn't your wife miss you?

One Con that you never even touched in is the mosquito netting, it is very soft and fine. I own the 1 person version and I would rather a thick misquote mesh found on $39.00 tents, like coleman or Ozark Trail since the poles fold up onto it and can not avoid bruising and freying the netting. To many hard contact points on such a soft fine material. P.S the bag size is rather large I thought.

I have watched your reviews on tents I have found that they contain good information about how good or bad a tent is. I would like you to review a tent that I have used camping in Northern California in the Eldorado national forest off of Mormon immigrant trail to several locations silver fork at 7,100 feet , miece rd at 6,500 feet alder creek rd both at the creek itself at 5,500 feet and at a bench at the top of the road at 6,200 feet and at loon lake off highway 50 on ice house rd at roughly 6,500-7,000 feet I have camped in summer weather and in fall winter weather in snow and freezing temperatures I have found that the tent works well however in 6 inches of snow I have found moisture inside of the tent at ground level not sure from condensation or actual snow melt. I had to put up a heavy tarp as both additional waterproofing and heat insulation using a mr buddy tent heater that was plenty adequate for the job. So I’m interested in what you think of the browning glacier 4-5 person tent. Me personally I like the aluminum tent poles and that there is only 2 which makes it easier to put up as does the fact it attaches to the tent with clips. The rain fly works great as well. I do put down a tarp before setting up the tent for additional floor protection and insulation from the ground and I always carry extra line paracord 400-1000 pound to tie off the tent in real windy conditions using both the supplied tent stakes of a heavy but short l shape and ones I bought that are 14 inches long with 2 tie down points and made of heavy solid round stock steel the heaviest tent stakes I could find b considering that camping in open ridges you get a lot of wind. I camped this way for one reason alone and that during fire season so if or when a fire breaks out I can see it and know if I need to pack up and get out of the way in time. In fall I tend to camp within the tree line and just below a ridge for protection from the worst of the weather and wind also away from all snags or trees which have dead tops or limbs. Coming from the logging industry I know firsthand what can happen with snags dead tops and limbs so I avoid them at all costs.. I’m asking you opinion for a reason. We have moved out of California to south western Missouri in the bolivar area and I want to know if this is going to be a tent I can use in this area because of its open ground and severe weather being severe thunderstorms and tornado weather. Already last spring we went through our first tornado warned hailstorm with hail golf ball sized and a few the size of my hand the spring before we went through a severe thunderstorm that produced a EF 1 tornado that hit 1 mile from us we got clipped by it but not directly hit however it did damage to the property trees down and objects stuck or wrapped in trees plus dented the rented mobile home we live in.

Are there tents made with extra tough bottom material for rocky camping and stand up to dog paws? I have three dogs and camp with them and looking for a good tent (even a cheap popup for "truck" camping). I don't want to buy something really expensive if it's extra light but can't hold up to rocky terrain (lots of it in the Rockies) and dog paws/nails. Never see any reviews of tents that reference anything about camping with dogs. Maybe it's not a consideration enough for most people.

Might be the quick hiker is meant as a base camp tent set up in an area that has many hiking trails. That way, each day you are there, you can take quick hikes and come back to base camp and the car. Sometimes, engineers are not good at naming.

We had one of those maybe 10 years ago (I don't recall if it was Teton Sports) but it was exactly like that tent 100% (& it was my daughters 1st tent). We used it for family camping and my Son and I took it out because our other tent had suffered a broken pole the weekend before. We were staying down near Brevard which tends to be wet. After out first night we were literally swimming inside that tent. Just say no !
