I have actually purchased the newer style one person backpacking tent from Walmart. Its the blue and white one dome style and it came seam sealed for $26:99. But that was only because Luke had went on a complain campaign on walmart so they made that. Thanks Luke! And yes just to be sure I gave it a light spray of silicone. From walmart as well. Again thanks to Luke!

I expected it to be full of water but then I remembered the holes you noticed. And, the fact that the floor was taking on water without it raining. Between the holes and any water that might make it's way out through the floor it may have not even been able to hold water very long. Nothing like a tent with it's own drainage system.

I used to have an old Coleman pop tent probably 60 tears ago.Actually it was a very easy tent to set up and not bad for leakage but if it was windy it would lay down in the wind then pop upright if the wind gust stopped. It would snap back upright so hard that if the tent wasn’t staked down it would actually move during the nite. Used that old tent for many years.

These tents are for dry only camping. Have a friend with a few kids that camp. Works great for them. How? At the beach campgrounds. Use a large tarp for the ground for 3 of these. With an even bigger tarp above set almost like a plow point shelter. I’m like you lookin at it but after seeing it used for a week in Hatteras, one night it did storm, and there was zero issues. And it’s great for the kids to set them up alone. Hell just watching them do the pop up was worth the lol. 6, 7, &8.

I also like the small overhanging porch so you can keep the upper part of the door unzipped for ventilation, a welcome feature that most domes don't have.
As for waterproofing, just throw a fly over it from another tent to stay completely dry, and use a mat to stay off a damp floor..:)

I can understand why many people look for low priced camping gear. I'm amazed at how many folks I meet who've never gone hiking and camping. So, there's plenty of people just starting out and they don't know what to look for, or even have determined whether they'll like hiking and camping or not. So, like most new hobbies, people tend to buy the cheaper gear first. Which is unfortunate because poor quality gear that doesn't work as intended can ruin an otherwise great outdoor experience.

    • @pawel_tips911

I bought a Magellan arrowhead tent ⛺ from academy for $16 then i mixed a whole tube of silicone with a pint of mineral spirits, put it in a spray bottle and soaked down the entire thing with it twice and allowed it dry for two days.
    Guess what?
This little thing can withstand Hurricane conditions without a single drop💧of water getting in!
And the bonus is it's ventilated very well and has no trouble with condensation or sweating...
The lesson is, it just goes to show that even the cheapest piece of crap tent can be made useable with a little effort if you know what you're doing.

Teton Sports makes a 1 and 2 person popup tent that seems to be of much better quality. I have purchased one (unopened return on Amazon Warehouse for $62 normally $100) to use on a future backpacking trip, mainly because I get lazy after a long day of hiking and like the easy freestanding setup. I'm kind of excited to test it out, not much rain where I live AZ, so I guess that will be the true test maybe condensation as well. It is 4.6 lbs, which is lighter than my usual hammock setup w/ tarp and underquilt though.

best thing to do when using ANY tent is buy a construction type tarp , they are small and very very little extra weight and can fit in small pockets , waterproof - have metal rings on corners for tying off and best of all very very cheap .
if you have tent problems this can solve most of them in one single small lightweight easy solution.
use as a ground mat for under the tent , can be used to cover the tent as an extra layer to keep heat in and can be pegged in with the tent pegs (or random wooden pegs made from branches)

The Reactive Outdoor Tent DOES have two decent sized ceiling vents but none directly on the sides of the tent. The two doors can help with that for cross ventilation. The small 'Fly' at the top is mainly just a beauty cover for the mechanism at the top. The actual Rain Fly is built into the tent. I recently purchased one primarily because of the ease of putting up and taking down. I haven't used it yet and will likely use waterproofing spray to treat the outside. As far as the stakes go that's typical for tents in this price range and are usable. If you want something more rigid you can purchase them for a dollar each at most retail stores. You're not going to get high quality stakes until you get into the higher quality/expensive tents.

The effort people go to to avoid getting a decent budget tent. Seriously, an Alps Lynx is *barely* more expensive than this and is a great tent.

    Well that was fun Luke!
Not a tent to take seriously, maybe it would pass as a fair weather play tent for youngsters pretending to camp in the family garden, if mum and dad were ok with the $80 cost!
Thanks for posting and best wishes to you and Suzy and family.

Hey Bob, what do we use with this left-over material? Heck, let's just give them a "Rainfly"

I got one of those for free. I use it at the beach or day trips. I would not take it out for overnight camping. It's a better-than-nothing shelter.

I was just given a Reactive pop up as a gift and looking for reviews, and I couldn’t find your actual review on it, just this one where you mentioned it in passing? … Honestly as a purely recreational camper, this quality doesn’t bother me. I’m watching the forecast, laying a tarp underneath, using camp dry all over it, etc. The Reactive does have mesh panels behind the doors that can function as vents, too, so I’m not worried about that. Just hoping it survives condensation and maybe an unexpected sprinkle. 🙂 if so, maybe I’ll upgrade one of these days.

That mechanism is the same as a tent I got in the UK with almost instant popup. The difference was the quality of the one I got was much better (Urban Escape) and lasted for about 8 years. In the end the groundsheet degraded and let in water so I replaced the tent but it did hold up to rough weather and torrential rain. Last time I used it though I woke up to puddles inside the tent :(

The coleman easy up tents are full proof and some are as easy to set up as this but don't leak !

You know, I genuinely love the concept of these... The mechanism of action. So why the hell doesn't a goid company step up and do these properly? Durable fabric... Radio welded seams... Quality poles... A proper rainfly (as opposed to a rain hat)... Seriously, if a company did these properly, it would be a hit.

I do wish you would always have popup descriptions of everything you use and wear and, if you've done a video, then title of videos on said item.
