i love cliff, but Jason was just a beast at backing vocals
seattle 89 blackened is unmatched
i saw once a comment that said 'jason can sing like an angel for nothing else matters, and he can sing like satan on creeping death'
@@arrrrrran3043 Jason's just a unit I guess
Metallica seems to have a habit of grabbing multi-talented bassists

Newsted: charisma and passion

You can still hear Jason even when the crowd sings🤘
1:06 It's Satan? No,it's Cliff
Jason is more like satan!
@@sm_4859 jason is like lucifer
while cliff is belial
Jason's vocals will always hold a place in my heart. They're top tier vocals.
Cliff was the soul, Jason was the body, Trujillo is the mind
I'd go with Jason. You can really feel his passion for metal
What separates Jason apart from the others when listening to this is how it sounds like just pure rage and hatred when he's doing backing vocals. It's dark, it's gritty, on it's own it's horrifying and it perfectly fits what the band is doing
Jason is amazing at backing, Cliff is amazing at everything and I like the way he timed his DIE, Rob has actually made huge progress from his early backing vocs. with Metallica.
I'm glad that somebody noticed how much better Rob is right now with those vocals, really doing his best "impression of Jason"
@@k.mroczek59 I agree watching his progress on backing vocs has been awesome.
As much as I love cliff if Jason isn’t your number one your just wrong
*you’re*
Agreed. Jason was a beast
@@Phah-Queue oh god the grammar police are here again
many would call it blasphemy but as a bassist myself, i 100% agree. Jason WAS Metallica to me as a kid and to this day i still keep the McFarlane Toys action figure of him in the case for my 6-string. Cliff helped shape what Metallica Would be and the band would not be what they are without him. But Jason was there holding strong, despite basically Living in Cliff's shadow, for the majority of their career, and you could tell that the band was his Whole Life. IMO, replacing jason would be even harder than replacing cliff was, and while i Love ST, i Still don't think trujillo is a good match (and i May hold a bit of a grudge, since trujillo was at the hall of fame induction and had been with the band for less than a year at that time, iirc.)
@@Phah-Queue yuo’er
Backing vocals: JASON NEWSTED
Cliff - The monster
Jason - the hyper demon
Rob - the crab fusion gorilla
If backing vocals and performance is the topic see it for your self
Jason for me, the dude can sing to.
Seek and destroy, whiplash, creeping
death. Then tell me if im wrong!
Dont forget "One" live at the grammys
@@BooBoo_17 that "landmine!" Is still ringing on everyone's ears and hearts since 1988 and it will never stop
Jason for me! His stage presence was second to none. Rob is good, but his stage movement and playing doesn't fit Metallica.
He isn't good for Metallica, he hasn't aggressive playing style at all.. unwatchable . That was definitely not his place. He should understand and go out of balls, definitely. wtf they thought when they choose him..
@@expl44 yeah sure, you are the one to decide xD
Jason
Cliff
Rob
Jason.
Always Jason.
Jason for-fukking-ever.
No MetallicA without JASON!
🤘😠🤘
Dude, Jason owned Creeping Death.
Comparing the backing vocals of the three, there's no contest. Jason was perfect.
As bassists? All three were/are legendary, great players. But backing vocals? Jason was king.
Jason's vocals sound so menacing and powerful
Jason also sang actual harmonies on other songs as well. For me cliff was the most creative, Jason owned the live show, and rob has the best groove.
Jason was a beast.
If we only had better quality clips of Cliff people would know how great his backing vocals were. He sounded absolutely demonic in Creeping Death or Master of Puppets. Not screaming like mad, but really, really low growls. He can be heard quite good in 1986 video from Roskilde.
yeah the quality was quite bad on those recordings, though for Creeping Death, Jason's performance in Moscow is my favourite version of the song. His shouts of "Motherfucking DIE!" and "DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" are legendary lol
It's weirdly ahead of its time
jason is a beast
Jason era el Fucking puto amo!
I find it surreal hearing rob cuss for some reason
I really miss Jason Newsted
Cliff Burton Supremacy
This isn't even telling, show them all doing the accents during the verses or the ending chorus. I am a huge fan and love Cliff like any sane person but if anyone thinks Jason isn't the best at backing vocals you are simply wrong. Watch any full performace of Creeping Death or Whiplash and you will see.
Or the 90s performances of Seek And Destroy with Jason on lead. Fucking brutal
@@AniW2x4 or even Seattle 89
Sad that Cliff never got to do his Satan-like speaking parts from Creeping Death or RTL live.

I'll be dead honest here and i will probably get some help but for me, Jason is metallica's true bassplayer.. Cliff is epic, Rob is great but for me Jason is the one i grew up with..
If we are being completely honest Jason is a better bass player than Cliff just bc Jason was slightly more versatile and he played for longer but Cliff was a way better composer than Jason but rob is way better bass player than both of them rob is one of most versatile bass players ever I haven’t really seen rob shred shred like Cliff but he’s more versatile
Don’t get me wrong I love Cliff he’s my favorite bass player
Point is that most of the Metallica song that still live to this days are from the first 4 albums. You may not notice it in the bass line but Cliff did a hell of a job creativity speaking: He modified the bass lines in Kill’em All, wrote the bass lines of ride and master and some of those of And Justice before he died. Let’s not forget Anesthesia, The Call of Ktulu and Orion, those songs are masterpieces and would have never been them if it wasn’t for Cliff. The problem with Jason is that James cut his wing every time he tried to do something, for example turning the “My Friend of Misery” intro from a melodic start of a bass solo into a song which we all remember for what? Tha melodic intro on bass.
I wish we could have seen more of Cliff and even more of Jason, I still think Rob should have never replaced him. Well, it is what it is
@@landonboyd6630 Naha Cliff was the best bassist Metallica has ever seen
@@Ataxanrakhminov no he wasn’t, rob is and rob is the best bassist just because he has spent way more time in Metallica and Cliff only had 3 years
I hate to admit it but Jason is what really got that chant going. They didn't really do that so much with Clif. And Robert will he still has suicidal thoughts
Jason newstead has the better stage presence. Cliff is the best song writer and bass soloist. Robert had better bass rhythms
Music Wise: Cliff
Vocal Wise: Jason
A little bit of both: Robert
Jason is just unmatchable in backing vocals
Newsted by a million miles.
He's better than Hetfield.
for backup vocals yeah, but just a singer, no
@@Samford_ his solo vocals aren’t bad, he has arguably better form it’s just very growly, not that I’m complaining
@@jgall30911 i like his solo vocals as well, but only when he's taking over for a verse for songs like whiplash, creeping death, or seek and destroy
We could move Newsted to vocals, James to drums, hire Rob for bass, and kick Lars out.
1:46 Jason killed it! God damn 💯
Jason all the way.
Jason gives me chills, man I miss him
Tell you what Jason had big boots to fill when he walked into that band, and the only thing people can say is he didn't play with his fingers so fucking what he did everything they asked from a band member. Rob can play a thousand notes but I don't believe he has the stage presence of Jason. Who agrees
Anyone crying about Jason "playing with a pick" is a tool. There's lots of video out there of him finger playing. The simps are grasping at straws with that bs. The guy was great all around.
No one can fill what Cliff has left.. but I have to admit that Jason's chemistry with the band is greater that Rob.. and I salute Rob for being in the band as long as I knew! True Metallica fan here..
Jason was the best
Jason hands down
I want Newsted back in the band..
Is this Even a competition? Jason’s backing vocals were just of another fucking world, man
Cliff Burton and Jason Newsted are real heavy metal, Trujillo funky-poser-show musican
Jason stil my idol
jason!!
I get sad every time I see Jason performing in old Metallica videos. He was my favourate and I still miss in Metallica.
100% Jason Newsted
Jason Newsted takes the cake when it came to backing vocals
Cliff was more melodic in the compositions, and was integral in the birth and growth of metallica. Jason's live impact as a bassist, regardless of band or genre, is undeniably ruthlessly unmatchable
Jason hands down.
Jason all thr way man
I think they're all perfect In their own unique ways
Jason was more metal than every member of Metallica combined.
Long life Jason Newsted… when he left Metallica, the band was done!
Jason!!! 🤘🏼 Listen to Whiplash from Mexico City 93'. Jason sings almost the whole song. It's so badass!!!
2:01 Jason's backing vocals "DIE MOTHERFK'R DIE" gives me chills! He is such an animal!
Cliff was the best bassist and song writer.
Jason best backing vocals and stage presence
Robert is very well rounded and somewhere in between cliff and jason.
Love all 3
All 3 are amazing in their own ways. Cliff has the best creativity and legacy to the world, Jason has the best stage presence and backing vocals, and robert is the most technical of them all and he has the best stamina. He can play dyers eve with FINGERS (there are live performances of dyers eve where you can see him play with fingers) and he played spit out the bone only with TWO fingers, ala Cliff. Hopefully he shows the band his slap bass capabilities in maybe a heavy song in the style of the cthulu trilogy.
JASON 💪🏼
ROBERT TRUJILLOOOOOOOOO!!!!🤟
Great comparison dude!
In my opinion Jason was on the Metallica's best years!!
Totally torn between Jason and Rob. Cliff was awesome, but these two men carried the torch. They both get the gold medal!
KING JASON!
Son of Lucifer.
Here is my whole outlook on the three musketeers
Cliff: Most talented in his instrument playing
Jason: Best backing vocals
Robert: Looks the coolest out of them all
No. Robert isn't the coolest one. Jason is.
@@daimonf777 actually Robert playing bass better than jason
@@santuryu3331 Mind you, that was not my point.
@@santuryu3331 as far as i know, they played it in same bass notes ha ha ha, look back and watch metallica reunion. See rob vs jason play at the same time!
Jason any time - harking back to the Flotsam years 😍
I absolutely love how wild and insane Cliff's growl sounds... I'm weak for this kinda stuff
Rating em by Backing vocals(my opinion):
1. Jason Newsted
2. Jason Newsted's Vocal box
3. Jason Newsted's Throat
Everyone knew how this was gonna end lol. Massive respect to all three of these metal legends.
Jason: a beast in back vocals!!!!
I feel like more than anything this video highlights how much James' voice has changed over the years
Jason Backed the song up soo good.
Cliff’s backing vocals were fucking insane. He sounded like a death metal vocalist. Fucking love his growling voice. Cliff kicked ass not only on creeping death, but also on disposable heroes, master of puppets, seek and destroy, and four horsemen
When Jason sings, James becomes a backing vocal.
I love Cliff but Jason is best in back vocals
Nothing much to compare. Jason was the 👑
Cliff is original but I don’t see why people like him so much
Jason had so much energy and was easily the best choice for backup vocals
Robert doesn’t have the worst backup vocals, better than Cliffs but not better than Jason’s, he absolutely shreds bass though and what I really like about him is his heritage he brings with him on stage
Jason!!!!!!
Cliff: best bass
Jason: best vocals
Robert: best crab walk
Alright so Cliff had decent backing vocals he had nice voice for it it was kinda hard to tell his and kirks voices apart bc of the audio quality, Jason was just amazing his and James’ voice go together so well, and personally I don’t like robs backing vocals at all it sounds kinda stuffy I don’t really know how to describe it also rob doesn’t really have a good backing vocals voice anyway.
Jason Newstead will be best teamwork bass player ever for Metallica
Jason, hands down. no contest AT ALL...
Newsted for me!! 😊🔥🎸
Jason always bordered on death metal vocals, and I can always get down with that
Jason killed him hands down.

Jason Newsted's backing vocals were always the best.
