    Jason and Robert are AMAZING bass players and any band would be better for having them. Cliff was a 1 in 1,000,000 musician, all around. His knowledge of theory, composition, appreciation for music as a whole etc etc was immense, especially for his age and the times. Cliff Burton would have become a VERY seriously important figure in music had tragedy not struck him. I whole heartedly believe this.

And look at all he contributed to the band , Orion being their greatest instrumental .Rob was much older when he joined the band , and had way more time to perfect his playing . And aside from that , on a creative level in 17 years .. has not been able to give them anything close to Cliff . Rob is just a skilled bassist , that can get up their a play tight with them on stage . Creatively he isn't on Cliffs level , or does he have the stage energy Jason brought to their live shows .

    • @tristanhavrilak6048
      @tristanhavrilak6048 3 года назад +12

      The reason why he started out with a pick is because he literally tore the flesh off his fingers playing bass with fingers. So that's why it's his go-to. Plus tone. Plus, David ellefson uses a pick. Phil Lynnot? He used a pick. Sometimes, even John Paul Jones used a pick. Those are some of the most legendary players of all time too.

      He play with pick because he chose to. When you play bass with finger in stage, it does't actually cut through the song. And because of Jason's brutal attitude in live performance, he chose to make the bass as brutal as possible. (I think) In the end of the day, pick in bass is just a choise. It depends on you.

I could be mistaken but.. people always say Jason’s live energy is the best.but the truth is , we don’t have nearly enough proshot footage of cliff to even begin to compare them. Even Jason himself spoke of standing Infront of cliff and watching him preform, the impact it left on him. Some people say if you never saw them live with cliff, you never saw Metallica . We only wish the soundboard audio and bootlegs of that time could do the man justice. We just have the memory’s of the audience and the guys in the band to try and piece together an image. Wish time machines were mainstream:/

    Cliff: has an amazing presence on stage,amazing tone & technique,amazing songwriting and his SOLOS
    Jason: very precise technique and speed, well composed live solos,amazing stage presence and HIS BACKING VOCALS OMG!
    Rob: The most technique bassist but his compositions are antinatural with the Metallica style,he is most funky
    The three are unique and different,but I think Jason had the first place in Live shows,he is the Metal guy,Cliff the first place in composition and musical style and Rob in technique (come on, HE FCKG PLAYS DYER'S EVE WITH FINGERS,that's sick man)

    • @4md17
      @4md17 Год назад

      @@davechambers-media2599 well, thats the reason jason left... maybe we could have something better if james and lars could let jason contributed. it makes me angry when everyone is saying that cliff was a better composer. he had freedom. jason didnt. and the men wrote first album of Flotsam and Jetsam very young. blackened, my friend of misery.. for me, top 10 riffs on their catalog. after he left Metallica he was so good in Voivod. and i know you all hate echobrain but that was a project in wich jason supose to put all his music that metallica didnt let him.

  • @parkerwojtanek3262
    @parkerwojtanek3262 Год назад +2

    I will be in the minority here and say that Rob is the best bassist when it comes to chops, technique, tone and putting the bass frequencies where they belong. Rob is an INSANELY good bassist, one of if not the best in the genre. Cliff's innovation will never be matched, however. Cliff's songwriting and use of melody took Metallica to the next level. Jason was incredible live and underrated in the studio. Jason is the Metallica bassist that I grew up with and will always be the one I remember first.

  • @anthonydyson1654
    @anthonydyson1654 2 года назад +14

    As much as I love Newstead, even more than I love Cliff. If Cliff hadn't written those earlier bass lines, Jason wouldn't have had those original arrangements to, in some ways, improve upon. Like, clearly, Cliff was a massive unfluence on Jason, I'm sure I read somewhere that Jason auditioned by playing the entire bass for the Master Of Puppets album. And alot like Cliff, he was a second front man for metallica in a way.
    Trujillo is another entity again. I loved his work with suicidal tendancies.
