Never be in a hurry with recomissioning an old vehicle. The Late Brake Shows barn find episodes are great on this - I love how the go through and do stuff like show them disconnecting the fuel tank, blowing air through fuel lines, checking they can turn over the engine (top tip guys - if its a manual, put it in gear and just rock the car back and forth...) checking for spark, crank, fuel pump priming etc before finally trying a turnover, oil int eh cylinders if needed, etc etc.
I got an XKR recently that had been sitting for 6 months and barely driven in 2 years. I've been taking my time but it has not been expensive getting it back on the road. Had an alignment issue and instead of splurging on new tires (the old ones were flat spotted) I started with an alignment, which didnt fix it, then realised the previous owner had the sgtaggered wheels on wrong... swapped them round, got a stock alignment, and everything was fine. The previous owner thought he needed a new steering rack. He'd been quoted so much money for all the little problems he gave up on the car. HJere I am only $500 bucks into it apart from the purchase price and its going great - just take time, diagnose thoroughly, get all the manufacturer documentation and you WILL have an easier time. LEarning how to read documentation really helps.
Also - Im gonna say this for jaguar - their service manuals for this car are brilliant. Never seen a better illustrated/described set of procedures before on any other car. Toyota/Lexus is a mess in comparison, which is saying something. These really are cars that a home mechanic with good reading comprehension can look after themselves relatively inexpensively. The previous owner has been talking to me and he is really pleased Im enjoying the car and fixing all the little problems myself that he could not, and he's not left hating jaguar for costing him 10 grand. One example - fixing the failed electric headrests on these cars is actually a SUPER easy job, its just fiddly and time consuming. You wont have change from $500 for getting a mechanic/dealer to do it because its a good 2-3 hours labor. But if you don't mind cracking a beer and pulling the seat covers yourself, you can fix it with an exacto knife and a pair of pliers.

There is a place in Canada that can legally change the odometer. You have to have alot of paperwork to prove the cars milage and they will set your new cluster milage to match the car.

To access it, you remove a panel under tje bumper held on with large philip scews. They came right out. The fuel tank was not rusted and still had facory paint. A metal line/tube ran from the tank, inside to the fuel pump. It had a pin hole. I removed it and it looked familiar. I matched it to a generic brake line and it had the same thresda and diameter. I cut it to length and slipped on the fuel ine. All was well.

3 years ago I bought a 1999 Jaguar XK8. It was relatively cheap at 10 grand. That is when I truly discovered the old adage that 'there's no such thing as a cheap old Jag'.
I had to spend $2000 in repairs just to get it safetied.. 4 bearings and a couple of other things. Then it went for engine work to get the timing belt changed. That, along with some other engine work came to $7000. Once that was all done the car ran great and I was happy with my purchase despite the extra $9k I.had to put into it to have it run well.........then we were driving home one evening a month later and the transmission blew. So now I.was almost $20k into a brick sitting in my driveway. So I bit the bullet and had it changed for a rebuilt transmission for $4500 installed. Yup...I am almost $25k in to a $10k 24 year old luxury convertible that I can never get my money back on....so I'll.keep her forever and love her for who she is. 😁

Car Wizard is a genius , of that there is no doubt. I also have an XKR - 01Jaguar which , prior to it being purchased by myself was destined to be scrapped , for similar obstacles confronted by the Wizard . Jaguar only know how to make panels , seats , dashboards and how to make the wheels rotate fast (although not for very long) Jaguar makes no money from the sale of new cars , it's all in the service and parts. My Jaguar has had major heart surgery , no computers, sensors on sensors and all the other B/S/ , it's an entirely mechanical fuel system , it has a six cylinder Perkins diesel coupled to an Isuzu Amigo gearbox with a Toyota 70 series differential . It just about to turn the odometer over to 1.3 million miles , it does not smoke the tires at the traffic lights but sits on 70 mph all day (and night). I rest my case. I still think the car wizard is a genius ( a genius businessman who does not suggest every alternative , only ones supplying and fitting genuine parts or their equivalent ) But that's what makes America Great isn't it . Isn't it ? Goes without saying the engine has been deleted of ALL emissions controls i.e. catalytic converter removed , diesel particulate filter, exhaust gas return is now a tube directly to the road , but wait , there's a problem , this car is going to outlive everyone !!!!

Makes me love my 1992-1997 F-Series trucks. You can change the dash cluster out all day long, as the odometer section is removable from the rest of the cluster. If you don't have a factory tachometer, just buy a cluster with one, put the odometer center section back in, and BOOM! It works perfectly, as all the trucks and Broncos were pre wired for a tach regardless if your truck was optioned with one.

The Cluster for supercharged cars is unique because it it says, "Supercharged" under RPM on the Tach, but only during day time. It's not illuminated like everything else in the cluster. You can check with your local DMV about changing the mileage. In California once it's 20 years old you no longer have to report mileage to the DMV when a vehicle is sold, so they don't care what odometer reads. Not sure about other states. Carfax, service history and condition tell you what the milage in anyway.

In NY, there are certified companies that will change odometer readings legally. You need a notarized statement of true mileage, service records and a carfax. Otherwise, you need a DMV form and a hand written sticker on the door jamb with the old cluster's mileage, and replacement's mileage when installed. If it's a nice car or fairly new car, that sticker will seriously diminish a car's value. Especially if you're looking to trade it in at a dealer. Working at Ford back in the early 2000s, we sent out quite a few units for adjustment.

Grew up with Austin Morris etc. Lucas issues are 90% the connectors. If you clean them off that fixes most all the problems. They used cheap and nasty metal and poor design on those bullet connectors and multi plugs. Once clean it’s a good idea to seal them with liquid electric tape or such. I used Starbrite.

The citron (Citrus medica), historically cedrate, is a large fragrant citrus fruit with a thick rind.
It is said to resemble a 'huge, rough lemon'.
It is one of the original citrus fruits from which all other citrus types developed through natural hybrid speciation or artificial hybridization.
