After manual-swapping our Japanese imported Jaguar XKR, Mike takes the car back home to Jaguar HQ to have it inspected by the experts at the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust. Does it pass the test?

exterior was a 8 or 9......
Liqui Moly ... we used to call that STP back in the day, and it looks like the same old snake oil. 😉
WHENS THE GIVE AWAY
please do a series about the x150... maybe even manual swap that?
Got to agree with the orange center console. I'd try and get a wood console if possible. Maybe even have one made
agreed..
Wood of the same colour or possibly even a brushed alloy panel.
I'd rather paint it black than look at that thing 😂
Ya. Alloy. I understand wood is a hallmark touch in a jag....but it needs to go. From the era where it was horribly done anyhow. Along with that the cd player needs to be traded for a gauge pod, or bs flip up data screen... i prefer oil, temp, volts... something pre-cartablet. Its got a standalone.... and a flip screeb is more "bond"... so wharever. That cd deck is a hackjob
The satnav screen spoilt the jaguar feel of the dash as Jag fans like loads of gauges and switches like the mark 2
Thanks Jag for being such sports about this and treating us so welcoming.
Can't believe a man of your age slagged off the Pierce Bronsnan era Mike 😢
I like the Brosnan films, particularly Golden Eye but I definitely prefer the Craig era films for the most part.
yeah that shocked me heh. Daniel Craig's Bond was intense but it was a bit too intense at times. The early Brosnan films are top tier Bond imo.
He should of just said they weren’t his favorites, without the scathing review. Maybe he was still stinging from the low Cog score?
I might just be old, but Sean Connery is still my favorite Bond.
@@Patryn71
Sean Connery: "The Real James Bond"
You guys have real gem here... the stance and wheels fits perfect. Condensation in headlight and center console (I'd say wood too) sorted it would be even better. 👌🏻
It’s incredibly cool to be able to do something like that with Jaguar, hopefully we can see more stuff like this!
I knew Graham in my Jaguar days !
I was in powertrain, on the V8 programme.
I think, IIRC, Graham owns an E-Type, or certainly did ! (Edit: Since confirmed !)
Me too, when he was in auto. trans. when it was down by the track, about 15 years ago.
The music selection is preposterous. Give the old guys some proper rock!!
The stance on that car ! ❤ I like the x100 over the x150 just because of the low roofline and body lines . I guess the rear taillight is where the car slightly falls apart but like the rest . I love how they look
At this point, this is quite simply one of the coolest XKRs on earth - I would be more than proud to drive it. The fact that she was all but forgotten, rotting away was sad but she's risen like a phoenix
Thats a 45/50 score for me. Looks amazing from few feet away and the manual swap is so cleanly done most would have a difficult time saying its not a factory option.
yeah I think he was harsh on the first two scores, should have added 1-2 points, since it's a rebuild not used
Hahaha
If I had a lot of money, I'd buy a dozen XK's and have the all converted to manual. Then resell them, and see what they fetch. This has to be the absolute coolest Jaguar XK ever. There are way too many automatics in the US. Long live the manual transmission. Thank you.
This was awesome, can't believe you were up close to all those jags!
I rescued a prototype Jaguar V8 engine and manual box from a scrapyard not long ago. Well, I left the engine there. The gearbox was a Getrag 265 five speed as used in the 3.6 XJS and XJ40. Jaguar engineers used a custom flywheel and a standard 3.6 clutch with an engine to gearbox adaptor plate plus a trigger ring for the TDC sensor. It had been a test bed unit and was never fitted to a car. I couldn’t get any interest from Jaguar Heritage at all. I sold the gearbox to a guy converting an E Type to five speed and the rest of the bits went to a Jag specialist. I bet that was the only one to escape being scrapped.
Im sorry mike but Pierce Brosnan's Goldeneye is one of the best bond movies ever made!
Don't be sorry! You're absolutely correct, it is one of the best.
11:15 now that, ladies and gentlemen, is the E-Type that was driven overnight from Coventry to Geneva for an additional test drive car for the 1961 Geneva Motor Show because the demand for it was higher than expected. And it's the one Jeremy Clarkson drove in Top Gear S17E01.
You got to lose 2 points on exterior for tailpipes alone if they aren't matching. On the positive, it means it should be a quick 2 points reclaimed.
Window trim etc take you barely any time and you've already got an 8 or 9 so do it and suddenly your score is very decent.
Definitely sort that dash/cente console out...
I would def cover the bell housing void sooner rather than later. Getting schmoo into the bell housing is a recipe for trouble, esp given the rain and salt Britain is known for.
Whos picking the Intro songs for the guests ahaha
A clueless gen z it would appear.
I'd de-chrome the outside, change the dash and centre console to carbon fiber and I loved the quad exhausts on the XKRR.
Yesss agreed, a blackout kit would look great
Carbon with black leather would look great. New full carbon trim kit with gauges instead of the screen is under 1k. Well worth imho
Grahams intro alone deserves a like from me 😂
Pity about the 'music'.
@@skylined5534eh...I liked the music.
11:49 couldn't disagree more with that statement
Literally is the polar opposite opinion to mine. I can't stand the Daniel Craig era of bond, and absolutely love Pierce Brosnan
I would even go as far as to say Pierce is only beaten by Sean Connery as my favourite Bond and they are quite far a head of the rest.
This has to be the very first time I've ever seen anyone actually state they prefer Craig over Brosnan.
Deffo prefer pierce. Goldeneye especially is a classic. And as for austin powers, how can you not like it. Its hilarious
Die Another Day was a bit all over the place for quality, but the Villain Jag and Bond's Vanquish were absolute highlights of that film. I'm of the Brosnan-era Bond films so I think they're awesome and as far as I'm concerned, Golden-Eye is the best bond film.
(Prefers Daniel Craig to Pierce Brosnan)
Do you want your James Bond to be John Wick or James Bond?
I bought my 07 XJ8 from Swallows 6 years ago ... 100k. miles later the car has never let me down! Great car
Lovely simple exterior. 17:20 So nice.
Loved the build, love the car, I personally would like to see more engine development done, proper long tube headers, Whipple supercharger upgrade, intercooler upgrades, you know stuff like that but that’s serious money we’re talking there so probably not in the cards. Always wondered how much potential those V8’s had but never actually seen anything more that what’s been done to Steve’s race car, would be cool to see a street version of that!
It was done by a company called "Bad Car" - about 630 BHP but companies gone (owner retired) and it is/was a seriously expensive project
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Do the exact same conversion to a 2006- 2014 Jaguar XK or XKR !!! That is what the factory SHOULD have done !!! It would be AMAZING !!! An Aston Martin KILLER !!!
Bet they aren't inviting Alex to bring his XJR down to have a look at... Just saying one car is a proper job, the other is an AutoAlex shed.
I know it's near-impossible due to it's nature, but I would LOVE to see the XKRR be let out for a drive with the DriveTribe Jag, just to get that final comparison of the OG manual XK and the modern inspiration car.
I think a European road trip is very fitting for this car! I’d love to see it!
What a great idea ! Great that Jaguar were up for partnering with you for this video. Great music and visuals. Love that old pale yellow car in the background during the wrap up
Even Jag themselves can't help but drop a T56 in a project car.
Just go drive it! Paint and trim can wait, and adding more mechanical mods may spoil what you've created. Drive it for a while, then ask, "What should we change about this car?"😊
Depending on spec of ZF, the Tremec T series would either be 350-600lbft rated and a strong box. Def the Drivetribe build looks more factory. Much prettier exhaust system too
Nice choice with the PRX bud.
Hold on , golden eye is probably the best 007 film and water ingress in those headlamps, if I remember there was a tube change for the breather upgrade or warranty. Something like that .
If it's not leaking oil there's something wrong
Yeah, it’s out of oil.
my jag xkr leaks transmission fluid from the Mercedes transmission, and power steering fluid from the nippondenso power steering pump, but not the jaguar engine. in fairness, the previous owner spent $$$$ on valve cover gaskets so it used to.
oh yeah and the diff leaks a little too.
but apart from the trans, the rear end, and the power steering, it's solid!
My 2004 XKR doesn’t leak any oil.
@@ljw5768 I think you should top it up.
@@Know3odydoesn’t use any. Doesn’t leak.
It’s not leaking oil it’s sweating power 💪💪💪
Some one has stolen my x type jaguar today which my dad bought for before he dead last year.its a 2005 2 litre diesel.i hope they catch the people that have done this.the car is priceless to me and my family.
Great project one i think many of us have daydreamed about. Awesome of Jag to show their stunning prototype as well
I love this project, it's an extremely baller Jag, also See if anyone spots the FK8
Not a bad score I think a bit more tlc is in his mind with the paint and trim, I think you could take the Jag to the proving ground that the boys used to take their cars to back in time were they have the top speed track that James used the Bugatti Veyron SS and hit the 253mph. You may need James to drive the Jag.🤣🤣🤣
13:00 I was lucky enough to attend a seminar by a Ford engineer who has been working on aluminum chassis vehicle his whole life. I'd imagine this ALC coupe is one of those using the technology, which is still rare among production car till this day.
Ford was using Jaguar as their "low volume" test bed for aluminium construction. Jaguar gained vast R&D from Ford in this area
*intense rap music starts*
Me: oop here comes Graham!
whats the car in the back at the start with the leyland livery?
It's a Broadspeed prepared XJ12C used in the British touring car championship back in the late 70s to early 80s.
Utterly glorious looking bit of kit!
I have both a 98 XK8 and a 01 XKR coupe. The XK8 had a manual swap like this almost 10 years ago. I have about 140,000 miles on it now. XKR is a black coupe right at 100k. I thought i could get down to one but I just cant. MAYBE a manual XKR would do it but I really love the drive of both cars. Both are lowered on Mina springs. Worth the cost of the swap? Definitely but while the XK8 manual performs much as the XKR it is a bit slow off the line. At speed they feel the same.
Golden Eye is da bomb... 💣
I'm about 6 months away from being 40, which is insane, but as a childhood Jag lover from the states, I want this more than most any internet car.
Nice a flashy fun paint job.
Absolute banging car! 👏👏
I like how the sound editor thought to himself “what music can we play to best embody a 55-yr old British engineer from the Jaguar Heritage Trust called Graham?” “I know, gangsta rap!”
The wheels on the ALC concept are perfect!
An interior restoration of those seats would be cool
Hi, the first thing I would do to the jag is restore the dash so all the wood matches.
Agree with other comments on this. Must be a nice long road trip maybe to Le Mans where Jaguar have great race record
Did Graham choose his own entrance music?
I hope not. It's appalling.
Ask Ben Collins to drive it .
Nice Jaag, nearly in the baag. Seeing as you're asking, I'd sort some classy aero, paint those calipers black, and start thinking about more power. And the wood, if it were to be retained I'd have it redone darker.
Agree with the Ice Blue prototype, what a stunner, can only imagine the worth of it
DUDE! I don't know what curve you are using but by standard flat percentage score 37/50 is 74% which is a middle C meaning AVERAGE! Certainly not close to an A which requires at least a 45 out of 50.
Yeah that made me a little puzzled too. Dude just gave himself his own rating haha
Mike clearly didn't get an A for Maths :D
I was there today , I just love the place
The first Sat of Oct there was getting on for 700 jags of all ages for the Jaguar Breakfast Club , it’s held at Gaydon on the first Sat of the month
Oh dear. All Craig films over all Brosnan films? Yeh, sure.
Woah that James Bond L take was unexpected. Craig's Bond has about as much charisma as a kitchen cupboard. 😂 Austin Powers is a national treasure quite frankly, on par with Mr. Bean & the rest/best of them.
craig is great but the previous movies were very fun too. but I find that younger people who like craig hate past bonds, people who grew up with past bond like my father aren’t a fan of craig
Funny how so many people want to see carbon fibre dash, not keen on it myself, would prefer a decent veneer.
I'd love to see that centre area around the screen done in formed brushed alloy.
That jag deserves a road trip to the nurberg ring
You're crazy, the Shaguar XK and E-Type are legendary and pure British.
I would have liked them to highlight the fitment of the clutch and the pedal box. Especially since it seems an S-Type diesel 'box would fit
Graham, you were wasted in your previous life - TV presenter extraordinaire!
Full detail and PPF. Make the black pop ❤
XKE, then XK120 and XK150 are my favorites by far of any Jag.
That James Bond Jag has 4wd.
I think it’s time to get the exterior detailed with us and restore the inside to get that cog score up ;-)
Well the main let down of this film was the sorry jungle music as an introduction for the two Fellers coming on scene to review the Jag.
That paintwork now needs some love - there's a lot of ripples in it, orange peel as well, generally pretty tired. It would look stunning if the black was mirror smooth. The gearbox 'hole' and those bolt holes would be quick and easy fixes. Leather reconditioning & dyeing, and re-do the wood to make the colour match and remove the cracks. then it would be perfect ;-)
My 2016 Jaguar F-Type is completely dry underneath. It also has a 6-speed manual transmission.
All leaked out ?
@@tee_m Hah, in the old days maybe, not now. I've had my share of leaky cars starting in 1967, Alfas, British cars, but this Jag is really nice.
@@tee_m
Mr original.
Mike: “ What shall we do with the Jag next?” Me: I’m not far from the motor museum, so just drop it off on your way home. Thanks
Amazing work
Love this model
I have an x103 model
Would be be nice to put them next to each other
Forgot the XK180R swb, the car you should have made fella 😎
The Jag with the Missiles for me is not famous for the Bond Movie, but being in Episode 4 of the first Season from Top Gear back in 2002 😁
In USA some states allow the front license plate removed; so vital for this xk series.
Id cover the wood interior with an matt ash black vaneer. That way you'd still be keeping it wood, but i think it would look much more modern
The Shaguar is a beautiful beast
One of the aston products used the t56 as well and given the tailstock configuration I would guess that's the donor car, not the corvette. If it was american it would be the fbody over the corvette for similar reasons.
Not to mention the Corvette was transaxle starting in 1997.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
That Jaguar expert walk in was something out of Zoolander. I mean did everyone just miss that in the comments or is this a standard walk in for a car show on RUclips in 2023? Things have sure changed... First time I heard about the Jaguar XKR was in Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit in 1998.
The music in the transitions made me switch off and go watch something else.
@@alexythemechanic8056
Like make the levels for 'music' like that zero.
I think we know a bit about Mike's grades in maths if he thinks that score is an A haha!
Complete respray and recently detailed and it got a 5/10 😂😂
i wonder how much of the newer XK dash would fit it... I noticed the silver/grey trim on the lower mirrors, maybe this can be incorporated across the body after a refresh; diffuser/lip/window trims perhaps? Few cars are worth the efforts, but a manual XKR? Its EASILY up the with the E60 wagon
Would love to own this car one day.
It’s a lot better looking then a 5. Geoff Lawson crafted one of the best looking Jaguar’s ever made in the modern era. Only 2nd after an E Type Coupe Series 1. But who knows. In 20 or 30 years it could be just as coveted. Maybe your car just needs a polish.
I don't know why people don't lime the H-Shaped chrome in the front, it really shows it's pedigree from the E-Type.
the one thing i took away from this is that 74% is an "A"
A guy with tattoos on both his arms rates the cars Extrerior LOL🤣🤣🤣
The COG score was IMO a mix of a little tough and a bit overly generous. I'd have probably scored it a 35/50. Still, that's a solid 'B' from me.
I want to hear it more, drive bys and accelerations.
Stipt polish point!! (Netherlands)
You need to get that XKR-R's spoiler mate
2:45 🤘
It's an epic car. But the steering wheel and shifter can be premier for sure.
Tint the windows, chance the wood trim for either engineer turned aluminium or smoked walnut, loosing especially, that centre panel.
COG 74 out of 100. I'd have rated this car in the High 80s to 90 even.
