  • The legendary Hong Kong Island Dim Sum House was first opened in Guangzhou and later came to Toronto to open its first shop in Chinatown. Known for their Hong Kong Style bakery, the beloved hang-out spot for the local seniors has barely raise its prices because serving the local Chinatown community is far important than profits.

I miss downtown Chinatown. I miss my old downtown Chinatown even more back when I was in grade school at Lord Lansdowne. Back when my grandparents lived across the street from Olivia Chow. Back when North America's best char siu could he found at Kom Jug Yuen. Back when all the big dim sum places had push cart service, and you had a minimum of a 15min wait at each of them on Sundays. When buses ran up and down Spadina.
Things have changed so much since then. Push cart service dim sum is long gone except for maybe 2 spots. Large franchises have slowly been invading. Nrlew buildings giving off a monochrome vibe. The change isn't all bad. It's cleaner now than I could ever recall, and a lot of those hard edges and attitudes have softened.

Community ahead of profits, what a noble business owner. This goes back to the traditional Chinese values of taking care of the elderly. I truly respect this man!

The owner’s values are aligned with our traditional values to respect and care for our elders. I will definitely give this man my business and recommend him to my Toronto friends.
