I like this, Eddie Vedder really took a backseat and didn't try to make the show about himself at all, just made a great contribution to the performance and added to the song.

Rick Hindman I agree. I was an R.E.M. fan up until the end, but after Bill Berry left they were never quite the same.
The drums sound really fantastic!
Rick Hindman He decided to quit after the brain aneurysm. He could have died.. So he retired early, and lived a simple life with his family. He still has the chops though. Great drummer.

Mike Mills is a very underrated bass player! As a bassist I can say he writes some outstanding bass lines! Great vocals too! Love REM I'm sadden that they retired!
Eddie’s vocals complimented this song so well. He didn’t make it about him just about the song. Still a favorite.

@@Chrisopsful because I’m a singer and I’ve had most of the singing myths debunked. His timbre and his range is more tenory. Sure he’s not the most tenory tenor in the world but still a tenor. Maybe more of a Bari-tenor.
Eddie sounded great with R.E.M. Two awesome singers...Two of my fav bands R.E.M and the voice of Pearl Jam. Michael is the coolest singer ever, as well. Not to mention, Michael knows how to dress..He always looks great in R.E.M Videos and out and about. Michael certainly has a style thing going on. Great upload and thanks

There is nothing better than a singer singing someone else's song not needing a cheat sheet.
Bill Berry was such an important member of R.EM. His writing and drumming were crucial.
To see the Vox being thrown off stage at the end was a bit heartbreaking since I would LOVE to have one. R.E.M. is by far my biggest influence musically. They changed my life in a good way. I remember my buddy telling Stipe that before a show in Miami on the Green tour. Stipe seemed really taken with the statement. Their music still gives me goosebumps after all these years.

Having the original artist and then another artist sing/perform is pretty creative. Eddie Vedder done a great job at performing with Michael Stipe one of REM’s well known songs. A successful performance I call this one 🙂😎

Mike Hamilton Eddie is a big fan of REM, and that showed a lot. He sang his lines in his own style, but he stood back and didn't take over the show. He made it about them, and enjoyed singing with a band he respects.
Josh Gering Vedder fumbles on the first couplet here, but he does recover nicely. I played in a band for years and one thing I learned is that if you do mess up, keep going and don't call attention to it.

If you had the pleasure of seeing REM live in concert, Michael Stipe always came up with the craziest body movements that fit so perfectly with the songs. I saw them in 1994 right after "What's the Frequency, Kenneth" was released. In fact, they opened with that song. One of the greatest bands!

Yep! He wasn't just a drummer. He was a songwriter, an important background singer and kept a beat like no other. They should've retired as a band when Bill retired in 1997.
@@amerocker Bill wouldn't let them. He said that if he was going to retire he had to know that they would continue as he didn't want to be the man that broke up R.E.M
They should've just had him be a consultant...like bring him some songs and ask him what he thinks. Hell, he could write some and record if he wants and then never listen to the final result if that suited him. Of course, I'm sure they talked it over to death..he simply said no.

I love REM's career arc. They were an obscure cult band who worked their way up to making it really, really huge, and then went back to being an obscure cult band without ever really doing anything to piss all over their legacy. I mean, a couple of dull albums towards the end, but even then they had great singles. And as soon as they got their shit back together musically, as if to prove that they could do it, they called time. I admire that.
