I fucking love how he looks back at the other players kind of implying “couldn’t do this without you guys…” I’ve met him twice and he really is an exceptional human.
@@smilebot484i thought the same thing. To me he was wanting to bring it in himself with just his guitar like the song actually comes in originally with just his guitar and then the band comes in and follows. But he looked back like ohhh ok yall are bringing it in and they was so loud and out of tune and key (hence how he was singing it) so he just went with it and didn't really like it and if you notice his guitar you couldn't even hear it really he kept looking at sides and looking at his guitar like uhh can you turn it on or up and he has to sing extra loud because of the band behind him. He didn't like it. It wasn't how he wanted it to sound. But he's eddie and went with it. You can tell by how he sang it and acted he didn't like it. Just my opinion. If your a real pearl jam fan you will notice these things I noticed.
I'm not a big Pearl Jam fan. However, I saw this on Letterman when it first aired. Since then I have watched this clip hundreds of times. God damn...this is what rock is all about. It's totally blazing, balls to the walls, take no prisoners, set your amps to 11. If ever I'm feeling bad I put this on my audio system and crank it all the way up and let it rip!! It makes me feel ALIVE. Vedder is the man...dude you know the answer to it all. Thank you.
Omg!! I Can't get enough of this performance. It was done for a Friend by a true friend. It doesn't hurt that Eddie Vedder is the most beautiful man on the planet as well❤❤
I was putting my 5 year old daughter to bed and we were working on her reading when her bedroom door creeped open and my daughter quickly turned and pretended to be asleep when her 2 year old brother walked in crawled into her bed with the biggest smile and tried to wake her up. I immediately thought of this song and now it’s my favorite song ever
Eddie seems like the only lead singer of a great band and not be addicted to anything! I think that is incredibly! Would love to hang out with Eddie and just hang out? lol! If i could pick one any rock singer just to hang out with! it would be Eddie!
How time flies, isn't it?. I'm sure that's what David thought once that photo from 1996 appeared. It was almost 20 years man. Just think the many things that can happen in just 5 years, now imagine in 20 years. I'm glad that David had another chance after so long, and of course, before the show was set to end forever 🍷🗿
My man Eddie, Them and Alice in Chains are my favorite bands. Ive only been to 3 concerts in my life and one of them was Pearl Jam in 2008 Camden NJ. Great night. If u see this Kim the Queen of Queens thanks for coming.
Eddie talked about this letterman gig in howard sterns show as how Letterman was trolling him on the show for weeks and one time he was high saw it on tv and to end this he finally went there to put a stop on it ..Rock Royalty hehe
As you age you too will find that while your talent AND spirit remains, it's the energy that lessens. Just as the case with Eddie, watch at the 3 minute mark and tell me his spirit has diminished!
Don't get that comment, have you seen him in concert with his boys, not sure why they couldn't be there, but let me assure you, his spirit is very alive, it has to be, he is now carrying the entire legendary Seattle grunge movement on his shoulders, not like that is important to him, it's just good music
It seems like he wasn't anticipating the piano intro to work so well without the guitar. I'm a numnuts so I know nothing, but seemed like he made a split decision to let it just roll
Thats exactly what happend. He had a different way in his head and the CBS orchestra kinda stole it and almost made it an instrumental. Eddie just rolled with it.
Notta huge fan of Pearl Jam...but thats some phukkkin awesome rock n roll. So happy to see Eddie's later years channel Springsteen. Even Eddie acknowledges that his compass now points towards Springsteen.
My wife has schizophrenia and mental disorders we separated for a long time and intervention is led to the point where she came to court with another male add a divorce proceeding I never felt so empty.... I want to get a hold of and cry with her but we've been the worst thing for my life ever
Wow you are so fucking dumb it's scary. Can't play the guitar?. The man is 1nof the best acoustic and ukulele players on the planet you dumb fuck. Wow we are surrounded by fucking idiots
The way he leand back towards david while being hugged from behind, gives that young eddie vibe. So humble and cool
That was not a guy going through the motions, but a performer with passion. Vedder is truly a legend.
so well said.
He is one of a kind and we all get to share it ...
Truly said❤
FACTS
Hes the bees knees
His live performance when he plays blackbird and breathe think it's for charity. It's awesome . Just him and a guitar
LOVE!!!!
Mind you....I'm in my 60's, and I'm really missing his great head of hair. Some things should never be cut off. He had the best hair.
Eddie will go down in history as not only one of the most beautiful voices, but a true poet. His words are so moving
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL COMMENT I LOVE IT!!!!!GRACIAS AMIGO ....THUMBS UP!!!
Love how he is so professional and keeps playing after stings are broke and just tosses the pick.
He wrote this song in high school and first performed it in '89. It's still here today and still amazing
Hugh school?
Brings tears to my eyes every time I watch it.
I fucking love how he looks back at the other players kind of implying “couldn’t do this without you guys…” I’ve met him twice and he really is an exceptional human.
funny i thought he was thinking oh boy you guys are so out of tune. they sounded like crap

Same here. Pearl Jam is not my cup of tea but this song is a pure masterpiece.
It took me a bit to get into them, but once you find a tune of their's that hits the spot, theres no reason why you shouldn't dig deeper.
I’m
Only Eddie can make this song sound like a lullaby
That had a lot of smackings of 1996 eddie. Brought me back. Miss those days.
What an absolute living legend this man Eddie Vedder…
Love the fact that the audience is on their feet during the entire song. Never seen that before on Letterman.
For all of the Live on Letterman sets the crowds stand.
It happened on every single song that was played there.
@@adamk1520Not FOR MIDNIGHT OIL...I attended
Real American fucking rock star right there. One of the best frontmen everrrrrrrrrr. EdVed!!!

Given to fly makes my heart sing every time
Holy shit the passion. And audience felt it.
Back when late night shows were worth watching
God I miss Letterman.
I remember when this first aired, great performance

my heart sings
Best late night of anything that I have ever seen.
The jump at the end just makes me love and respect him even more.
I come back to this live performance all the time.
i can’t believe it’s been 9 years since last show 😢
I can...it's been a LONG 9 years.
Love the Vedder Letterman bromance!!!
Goosebumps!
Eddie único y simplemente espectacular

EDDIE IS THE BETTER MAN!!!!!
❤❤❤❤❤❤ bufff como siempre, piel de gallina
No shitty playback or something else. Just Eddie Vedder. Such a great man😉😊😊😊
Im a man..i love pearl jam.i crying because Eddie deserves so much.look how far hes comes.😢im happy.❤
Eddie talked about this letterman gig in howard sterns show as how Letterman was trolling him on the show for weeks and one time he was high saw it on tv and to end this he finally went there to put a stop on it ..Rock Royalty hehe
well i can't find a better man than eddie vedder so i'm alone. lol 🤘🏼
Just AWESOME!
❤Eddie
❤you look really good in this show. Still young!❤
The CBS orchestra everybody
Yeah really. Lol
awesome
He's sounds f#ckimg awesome!!!
so young to know women so well.
Great comment Mandy...
Lead Man,..Personified
Lindo demais! Amo Vedder!
I can't find the Buttermilk ...?
Years later whilst inducting pearl jam into the Rock and roll Hall of fame Letterman said "I could've sworn he was singing can't find a letterman" 😂
it tears me down how he got old, the talent remains yet spirit is gone. I grow up with your songs Eddie, thanks for everything
As you age you too will find that while your talent AND spirit remains, it's the energy that lessens. Just as the case with Eddie, watch at the 3 minute mark and tell me his spirit has diminished!
Eddie hasn’t lost his spirit he’s just emotional
Don't get that comment, have you seen him in concert with his boys, not sure why they couldn't be there, but let me assure you, his spirit is very alive, it has to be, he is now carrying the entire legendary Seattle grunge movement on his shoulders, not like that is important to him, it's just good music
Where is your voice? Stop smoking, heal it fast!
The man hasn't lost a thing! With so many imposters on the rock scene, to still have a vital and sincere EV is a blessing.
Wonderful
Time is short
Yes it sure is
Tight performance ...

PJ❤️ 👏👏👏👏👏👏
YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes I believe e.going through lots😢
The whole band felt this from Paul on the keys to the drummer.
❤️❤️❤️
Ed broke a string!
Notta huge fan of Pearl Jam...but thats some phukkkin awesome rock n roll. So happy to see Eddie's later years channel Springsteen. Even Eddie acknowledges that his compass now points towards Springsteen.
Broken string. No sweat for the king.
3:23 broken string
David Letterman said that I'm a better man
A W E S O M E
Love that Eddie's not using in-ears
Wow
Pure quality unlike the shite pumped out these days
There is still great music being made every day. You’re not looking hard enough.
Eddie wrote this song while in High School!
omg he is so short standing beside letterman
Broken string , rock n roll
My wife has schizophrenia and mental disorders we separated for a long time and intervention is led to the point where she came to court with another male add a divorce proceeding I never felt so empty.... I want to get a hold of and cry with her but we've been the worst thing for my life ever
Arriba PEARL JAM 👌😉🤘
looks like David Byrne on solo guitar ;)
6:11
Sid McG never got enough credit.
I’d rather he sing it how it originally was recorded instead of changing it. It’s a pain in the ass to sing along too.
The tempo was spot on… never really enjoy rush tempo from matt cameron
Eddie is the last surviving member of the 90s grunge club. Kurt Cobain: DEAD. Layne Staley: DEAD. Chris Cornell: DEAD. Scott Weiland: DEAD.
STILL ALIVE
i came in a hurry to watch this song because i just heard the Post Malone cover.
My god! It was Awful
He’s a man!
I'd like to see Bruce Springsteen do a covervof thus
So happy Trump is Eddie’s and David’s president! 😂
How poignant those words have become…
Love Eddie Vedder. Letterman... no.
His voice already left him.
bullshit, just watch the band get lit the fuck up
This band makes you appreciate Stone, Jeff, Mike and Matt even more. These guys are so off and make Eddie sound like shit.
Looks like Bam Margery
love eddie but man does he ever suck at guitar. broke the string. wrong cords the entire time lol
What a STUPID comment.
That piano playing was trash
Man Eddie can´t play guitar for shit lol
you can't
@@theresapaez513 I’m just saying Stone and Mike are miles ahead it’s funny but not ha ha funny I’m just saying
Wow you are so fucking dumb it's scary. Can't play the guitar?. The man is 1nof the best acoustic and ukulele players on the planet you dumb fuck. Wow we are surrounded by fucking idiots
Really terrible vocals here unfortunately
I don't see how. He is on key, just can't belt like he used to so much.
It might be due to years of smoking damage done to his vocal cords
01:27 If you're a Gen Xer, more than likely, you got goosebumps.
I'm a 72 yr old Boomer, and he gives ME goosebumps. My son was born in 1980 so he grew up with Pearl Jam, his fave '90s band.
Fantastic
