Fabulously smooth edges! Thank you very much.
This was always a problem for me visually; I thought I was doing something wrong. Thanks so much for this helpful video!
WOW! After just a few rows to try it out... what a difference! I don't understand why the "chain one" before turning your work ever became the norm. This looks so much neater! THANK YOU!
Thanks..
My goodness 😮 I’ve been looking at all teaching beginners channels and I love you❤ also the fact that you started right from the beginning was very helpful too!! Others have crochet few rows and … honestly!!!
This extra changing would also give me extra stitches. I’ll start with 10 and few rows later I’ll 12 or even less at one end!!!
I’m so grateful for teachers like yourself🙏🤗💯🌹
Some people don't know how to do it not that they don't care lol that's me lol it's why my edge are crazy. So here I am! Thankyou!🥰
I have NEVER needed the bumps at the end of a row to find the last stitch!
Crocheting a border will conceal those bumps as will stitching the pieces together.
This is my all time favorite video along with alternate the turning stitch.
First it makes edges so straight and second I never have a hard time finding where to put my last stitch!
It really has made my crouching much less stressful!
Great technique !
Its attention to detail, and wrll worth it
I like it very much! I will make a baby blanket with it❤❤❤❤❤
I am a beginner and I never liked those noticable bumps at the end of my rows. I am so excited for this technique you've shared. THANK YOU!!💕🧶
I like this method. Gives a great result. Now I will restart my baby blanket which I have just finished pulling out because I did not like the bumpy sides. Thanks from sunny Queensland.
Thank you. I’m just learning and I think this will help my practice swatch look better 😊
I would love to see how you do the hdc please
I tried it just now and I love your idea. Gracias
You’re welcome 😊
Thank you for this video! I am going to try this on the next scarf I make
That’s exactly how I do my straight seams I don’t chain one because as you said it leaves a bump so for sc and hdc this is what I do. However I’m still working out what is the best for a dc haven’t found one I like yet
Very clear instructions. Many thanks 😊
Very nicely explained thanks 😊
Wishing I had learned this before my current project but this is beneficial for future projects...thank you❤️
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks a million!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much it really helped me
thank u for sharing how to make an easy turning chain, its helpfull tips for me as a beginner.
How absolutely useful ...wish I had known this years ago!! Thankyou!!
Please, can this be done with a dbl or trpl stitch and a half dbl? Thank you
Revolutionised my single crochet edging! Thank you
Thank you, Nicki! This tutorial was very helpful. I'm a perfectionist, as well, which can make life a little more challenging sometimes (lol), but I really love how this simple step of not crocheting a turning chain eliminates the zig-zaggy edge on single and half-double crochet rows. I will be using this method from now on. Bravo! 👏👏
7:25 hi, do you have a video incorporating chainless foundation for half Dc (Us) with straight sides. I am struggling with the first row. Many thanks.
Thank you! Searched through many guides but this one suits me best.
So glad it was helpful 😀
So glad it was helpful 😀
Thanks
This makes so much more sense!
I like zigzag edges it’s still straight and gives the edge definition straight edge is good too
I, too, like the zigzag. It easier to put edgings around if needed.
Thank you Nicki!! I'm a beginner at crocheting and your video is very helpful!!
So glad it was helpful 😀
@@NickisHomemadeCrafts ever try knitting
That was helpful thank you ❤
Thanks for the tip! Would love to see a video for the half double crochet.
I was taught to chain 2 for the hdc, so are you saying I should not chain at all, or to chain just 1? I was also taught that the turning chain counts as a stitch for the hdc (unlike for sc). Is that still true if there's no turning chain?
If you count the turning chain as the HDC, you won't get the bumpy ridge.
Great advice! Thank you very much! Love from Argentina
So glad it was helpful
Thank you🧚♀️🌼
Very good ❤️🌹💐⭐️🤩
Thank you it looks much better
So glad it helped 😀
Haha! I've been doing that since I was a kid simply because I thought it made better sense! I didn't like that holey business at the end of a row -- especially when it comes to double crochet. I chained two and call it a turn, going about my business.
Yay! So glad it helped
Thanks for sharing your tip. I like the crochet hook you use. Please tell me the brand name and where it can be purchased.
Hello, I really liked the way you teach, the step by step is very good. I am following the content of your channel and giving you the deserved support. I am very grateful. A fraternal hug from Brazil.
Your turning edge was better than the bumpy edge
im making a single crochet Queen size blanket ni was adding the one stitch at edge n noticed that it wasnt smooth r straight i will undo my blanket bcuz i loke it to look good so that person will refer me to someone else
thank u
Hi Nicki, I'd really like to know where I can buy a crochet hook like the one you're using in this video.
So in a double or half-double crochet can you just do one chain and get the same effect?
Such a beautiful color of wool/yarn
Thank you I have this problem
You’re so welcome
Thnk you very much
Love your nail 😍
Does this work for BLO too?
Thank you so much for this video! I just could not get the hang of crocheting with the Turning Stitch. I never understood it. This video is so much easier and now I'm crocheting scarves with ease. Can I do this with double Stitch and other stitches also?
Glad you loved it. Here is more info (different from sc) for DC: www.nickishomemadecrafts.com/alternative-turning-chain/
THank you this video is helpful and explanatory
Yes. Helpful. Thanks for posting.
Thanks I appreciate your video. I will give it a try.
Yay! So glad! I have a newer version of this video you might want to check out too
Wow!! I love it! Thank you!
Thank you.
So simple and effective! Thanks so much 😍
You are so welcome
I had just been wonding how to get this effect. Thank you for this great video.
Ff@@
Thanks 👍
So glad it was helpful 😀
Awesome thank you so much yes it looks so much better. Do you have any idea how to get the herringbone & half herringbone sides straight A’s they are so wobbly when I do them
I saw a pattern, that she does a single crochet the first chain, then herringbone stitches in all the next rows, then a single crochet in the last row. I want to try it.. hope that helps!
Hallelujah.... thank you!
I have a very hard time getting “straight” edges so I just go with my scalloped edges, 😊
Same here
Very helpful. Clear instructions. Thank you!
Simplicity is beauty! Thank you for sharing this 🥰
Thank you Nicki

Very helpful😃
Very helpful. Thank you so much!
Very good. Thx
Good morning and thank you for this beautiful tutorial I'm gonna start doing this thank you very much God bless you
Why do we even get taught to chain one or two crochets to turn to begin with?
Thank you! I'm a beginner. I have lost count of how many times I ripped out my first project because the edges look so awful.
So simple! Thank you!
You're so awesome. Thank you for this! 💜
Very helpful!
Thank you Nicki. Is this the same way for a 1/2 double (except for the extra loop)? How would a double go?
Yes 😀 for dc I use the alternative turning chain. Check my channel for the vidoe
I'm planniing to make my first blanket using the lemon peel stitch where each row begins with a sc and ends with a dc. How would I incorporate this method of getting smooth edges on the dc side? How does it work in conjunction with your other video on straight edges?
Yes! I have more details here (with video): www.nickishomemadecrafts.com/alternative-turning-chain/
Thank you so much it looks so much better
Thank you for this video. It helped me a lot.
Would this work with a b/loop st too
Sure
Hi, what's the name and maker of your nail polish? Absolutely gorgeous color♥️. Thanks you☺️
I wish I came across your video before making a blanket. I've just started. Bummer 😔
Thank you!
How can I make straight edges for double crochet?
Thank you! What a great tip! I didn't like those bumps at the end either. I'll definitely be doing this!
Does this work the same when you're doing back loop only single crochet?
How I wish there were an answer here. Did you figure out out?
How do you change colors?
I've tried to make straight edges for yrs🙄💪😍
And please, is there a video with the solution for double crochet?! I cound not find it... :-(
Yes: How to Crochet the Alternative Turning Chain - for Double Crochet, Treble Crochet & Taller
I'm using chunky yarn and the bumbs are obvious. So, to make it look neat I would probably have to do a border.
Very helpful! Thank you for sharing!
what if I’m stitching in half double crochet
I also skip the chain
Does that not throw your stitch count off?
That's what I was wondering, too.
no you still just create one stitch
So no chain one just do the sc in the first stitch? I never understand why people say they don’t do turning chains. Thank you because I never did understand what they were saying
👍👍👍👍
this was a lot of help thank you. just checking my spell check it works just have to pay more attention/
The video words on it cover the way u r Showing it
