I have been fasting for the last five or six months and I’ve lost a tremendous amount of weight I never knew fasting would be this much fun. I have lost a total of 60 pounds since a year ago and I’m loving it more and more. I’m almost at my goal that I had set myself, I have about 15 pounds to go

Tomorrow is day 30 of my 40 days/40 nights water fast.
I’ve lost 40lbs so far. NO loose skin, my muscle is intact, and I have optimal energy AFTER the first 3 days I started.
I’m doing as a HARD RESET on my life. I deactivated my Facebook, I dropped toxic people out of my life, and I stopped drinking on the weekends when I was off work.
This is as much a spiritual journey for me as it is about weight loss.
That being said, I’m excited about my progress, and can’t wait to see the results at day 40.
I plan on implementing a smart refeeding plan afterwards to last upwards of half the time of my water fast. I intend on starting with broths and soups, watery fruits and vegetables, and then healthy fats, nuts, seeds and protein.
This was a referendum on what was, and it has shown me what will be moving forward. 😊

Diagnosed Stage 11 B breast cancer (last year) and stumbled on the ketogenic diet and fasting in my search for lifestyle change. Was already doing targeted exercise, strength training etc. I’m not over weight and otherwise fit but still want to improve my chances of long term survival as I have a 14yo son. Have been doing low carbs (below 30gms) since March. I also wore a CGM and discovered I was pre-diabetic despite being fit, slim and strong! This gave me even more motivation that I was on the right track with choosing ketogenic diet and fasting. Thanks to you I decided to step up and try a 36 hr water fast. I gave myself permission to stop at 24hrs if I was really struggling. I’m now at 42 hrs and am not hungry or distressed at all…. in fact feeling good and very alert so am continuing. Having a PET scan tomorrow so hoping for a good result. Thank you Mindy for your enthusiasm and support with continually providing great info, ideas and encouragement. Ketosis v autophagy -
    • ketosis - switching to fat-burning v sugar-burning. What kills ketosis: blood sugar going up.
•autophagy - kicks in after fasting for 17-72 hours. What kills autophagy: protein going up.
You stay in a fasted state longer by not eating anything that causes your blood sugar or protein to rise. So basically - low-protein fats.
Good things to consume to extend fasted state:
    • fat snack - salted butter(? - she didn’t say that but I love butter and think it would be good). She mentioned avocado and nut butter.
    • mct oil in coffee or tea
    • exogenous ketones. (Don’t take right after eating but can take to extend fast.)

I haven't tried it as yet, but i have done ghee, tumeric & black pepper in warm water (boiled water gone warm) to melt the ghee, then tumeric, black pepper and the chia seed last and sometimes i will add a small amount of cayenne pepper as well.

I just did 4 days water only. Morning BS started at 277 morning of day 1 morning of day 5 it was 148. Really wanted it to be in the normal range but damn this worked faster than the IF KETO results I was doing. We are using heavy cream in our coffee as the “fat bomb”. I am 39 hours into a fast normally I drink a black coffee but I am working alongside my 16 year old son. I did not want him on MCT oil as he is operating at a high level of ketosis so his body doesn’t need any encouragement. He was 50lbs overweight (same as me), he’s now 34lbs to his target weight, I have 13lbs to go. (He was inspired my weight loss). So we’re on Keto and intermittent fasting but after two weeks I decided he was ready for a longer fast which he has managed no problem (he’s on his second one). He lost 16lbs in 2 weeks but the most helpful thing is the coffee with heavy cream… it makes it a lot easier for him (and me!). Thank you for your great videos. I have done water fasts myself, amazing but I haven’t noticed a difference with adding the heavy cream to my coffee in terms of weight loss, they appear to be the same which is interesting. I have taken mct oil occasionally but it’s a bit yuk in coffee. The greatest result from all of this is my sons happiness. He lost himself in the carb coma during covid (like I did myself… and enjoyed! 😂) so it’s great to see him back to himself, his acne is also gone (although he’s trying to grow a beard… I don’t know which is worse! 😂❤). Thanks again for your very motivating videos, so helpful and informative and you always keep up to date on the research. ❤

Didn't plan for this, but since I'm doing okay, I'm going to keep going until I'm sure I'm out. I have plenty of fat to live on. Needed some electrolytes, but I've been very well hydrated, so I'm not worried there, I have had a few hunger pangs, but nothing major thankfully. Make sure you are getting electrolytes on longer fasts (calcium, magnesium, sodium and especially potassium - also consider a B Complex). Stay hydrated - it helps to drink something hot when hungry (tea or coffee). Build up your fasting hours slowly - 24 hours is easier to do if you are sleeping on it!😉 From there, 36 hours is a cinch! Two years ago, I tried intermittent fasting (18/6) and the keto diet. While it did help me lose weight quickly, I would advise against starting off too extreme. After two weeks on this diet, somehow my body stopped sending hunger signals to my brain, so the initial struggle with hunger only lasted for the first two weeks.
However, three weeks into the diet, I had an accident. I passed out while riding my motorcycle, I didn’t even remember falling. When I regained consciousness, I was confused and didn’t know what had happened.
I had never passed out before in my life. Luckily, I didn’t break any bones, but I had many wounds on my hands, legs, and face. I believe the extreme IF and keto diet caused my body to go into “survival mode” and actually it needed calories so that I didn't lose my consciousness, but my brain wasn’t receiving the signals, and eventually I collapsed
It was so scary, I was very lucky that I was still alive.
After the accident, I stopped the keto diet but still do intermittent fasting occasionally. So, my advice is to not do the Intermittent Fasting dan Keto too extreme.

    • @wakeupcall2665
      @wakeupcall2665 Год назад +2

IF should only be done in combination with a ketogenic diet AFTER you’re body is fat adapted. And that takes a couple of months on a low carb diet. Anything extreme is not good unless you’re adapted your body.
You slowly ease yourself into it, and almost by itself, you’re noticing that you can skip a meal.
Did you check with your GP before starting? That should also be done before starting. Medication regime, conditions (fatty liver, T2 Diabetes, high blood pressure, heart conditions)
I don’t read anything about that in your post. So, as a conclusion based on your comment, you jumped into it without preparation, researching, checking, learning.
The best thing about IF is that you can skip a day or two (staying low carb/keto/carnivore) according to how you feel. It really doesn’t matter. I take it day by day, and if I feel I can go longer than 16 hours fasting, I do it, and if I don’t, I enjoy my meal. I have the rest of my life ahead of me, and the benefits are already so obviously apparent (weight loss, energetic, good feeling about myself) that there is no deadline for me. I took control of my condition, and that is what counts.

During an appt in April he suggested taking semaglutide for weight loss. My instant thought was that there is no way I'm taking a medication to attempt weight loss. I did an 18 day water fast recently but Supplemented with sea salt and also had some sparkling water and water with a lemon slice in. I felt quite weak and nauseous in the beginning. I broke at 18 days as it was hot and I had some dizzyness. But my body hadn’t finished fasting and was asking for me to carry on. So I took a break of about a week where I refed with fermented cabbage, kefir, protein and vegetables, I basically tried to eat little carbs. I was then able to restart the fast and did another 8 days. This time without any salt or lemon. I was feeling wonderful from day 1 no symptoms. I felt energised as I have never felt before during a fast. I love fasting on pure water (and occasional fresh mint tea) as my body goes into deep healing

    • @LovelyLily409
      @LovelyLily409 Год назад

@@paulgill7222 i have done it quite a few times. I started in 2018 and since then I probably fasted about 8 to 10 times. I mainly do it for spiritual reasons as when I fast I meditate a lot and do a lot of yoga which leads to a more expansive way of being. I only ever once fasted with electrolyte supplementation which gave me more energy. But I think if you eat well before the fast and go into ketosis before you start the fast then perhaps no electrolytes are needed. Trust your body and do what feels right. I don’t believe in right or wrong. I don’t know exactly how much weight I lose but I would say from an 18 day fast perhaps 10kg. Maybe more. It really depends on the person. I also like to do long walks as much as I can

Enjoy your videos. I got into fasting in a backwards way, I started taking hypnosis classes. I started doing healing hypnosis and the funny thing that I noticed was my body through me into fasting.(Autophagy) 18/6. I had to then learn more about what my body was doing and more about fasting and that is how I came up upon your videos. I found out it happened to other clients who I am working with. They started fasting without the intent. I really don't have hunger pains but I have redesigned my hypnosis to help in that area. I put in an induction that works like magic if I have issues. It did happen a couple times and I use the induction phrase. Love fasting for a few reasons. I feel better, look better and I am saving a lot on groceries. And it automatically controls my coffee intake which was a lot. No looking back for me. Thanks Mindy for video.

I found eating my last meal in the afternoon in order to get a jump start from the forced sleeping fast was fruitless because of the "Dawn Affect". The dawn phenomenon is a natural occurrence that happens in all people. In the early morning hours, certain hormones - such as growth hormone, cortisol, and catecholamines - cause the liver to release extra glucose. It's our built-in coffee spike. So in reality, we are throwing away a meal and getting absolutely no credit for it! So I have my last meal with a very healthy no carb, high fat breakfast to start my fasting. It gives me a jump on things. Just saying. 😉

Except it keeps coming around day 20. So I go back to day one of the 30 day protocol. My issue is, I am not getting days off of fasting as soon as I hit the no fasting days, my period comes. Should I just take days off of fasting here and there? I’m perplexed I’m still getting a period, although not regular, at 55 now!

I hear differing opinions on whether or not I can add some heavy cream to a coffee during a fast. I have blood tested after drinking it and it will either stay level or drop a couple of points. It’s very helpful (along with drinking electrolytes) to extend my fasts and avoid the headaches. However, my skin is looking AWFUL after doing various fasts for about a month now. Not sure if it’s a reaction to the heavy dairy or if it’s a blocked detox pathway?

    • @3SeasonsUSA
      @3SeasonsUSA Год назад

I would think so. I know you are asking Mindy. I reason in my own mind that if nut butter is okay, nuts are even better. With Macadamias I am careful NOT to eat an entire handful, however. About half that much. Same with Brazil nuts. I only eat 3.

A handful of nuts will break your fast, but this is your choice and if you need that hack then you can make that choice.

I agree with you that black coffee is an acquired taste.
I've found that when I started to use grassfed heavy whipping cream instead of almond milk, that I don't need as much creamer. I put a tablespoon of it in on my mornings that I am going to do my fasted workout. I add ground cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg, which helps me focus on the taste of the spices rather than the milk.
Also, switching to Organic coffee has made the taste a tad bit more bearable. 😊

Thank you! This is a helpful reminder to keep on track! I have lost 22 pounds in six weeks and during that time did two 36 hour fasts at the weekend but I also stopped drinking red wine every day which was probably a major factor of the weight loss. Last week I fell off the wagon and ate a lot of things I knew I shouldnt and miraculously still lost weight. This is the best diet for me ever and I am 57 and tried most of them! I also love the science behind it as it makes so much sense to me. Thanks Dr Mindy x

Hello everyone. My wife has a long anemia condition wich thx to some of my religion practices and better diet got better but im determined to fully heal my wife anemia so i want to combine my spiritual knowledge with science as God intended in the beginning. I have performed 3 days and 7 days fasting with only water, but my wife 3 days fasting was to difficult for her. Wonder is someone with severe anemia has tried to extend the fasting for healing and if you do, how you do it? Thx who ever

currently 10 days into a water fast (blood sugar is high 80s low 90s and ketones are in the 3s); what I do to make it work good:
    1) have a 2 day fast fast 2 days before with 50 grams of protein - this gets my ketones around 0.7 to 1.2 when starting first day of water fast
    2) take activated charcoal day 2 - 4 to get rid of dying gut bacteria - if not you can get a bad headache
    3) no exercise (except very slow walks in sun to get Vit D from sun)
    4) add fasting salts (electrolyte with no sugar) to your water to keep your electrolyte levels up
    5) get lots of sleep
    6) take water soluble vitamins (as long as they don't have calories) and trace minerals
    7) take melatonin to before bed if you cannot sleep (fasting cause higher levels of cortisol
    8) test blood morning and night make sure blood sugars are about 40 and ketones are below 8 - pull the cord on fast if these levels are breached
    9) after fast refeed slowly first day:
    a) water with apple cider vinegar and lemon juice
    b) bone broth
    c) bone broth with 4 ounces of overly boiled chicken
    d) sauerkraut
    e) mct oil
    f) blended vegetables
