I’m 59 and am at my optimal weight. But if I feel my clothes are a little snug, a couple of back to back 36 hour fast does the trick. I’ve been fasting for 3 years for metabolic health. I usually stick to one 36 hour fast a week, and 18:6 or OMAD the rest of the week. When I found Dr Mindy I was able to step it up a notch. I now throw in a 72 hour water fast every 3 months. I feel great! Thanks Dr Mindy! One more thing, to help me lose the last stubborn 10 lbs, I started making sure I was getting at least 8 hours of sleep. It made a huge difference for me.
I feel like I’ve slowed my metabolism down a lot by doing a 24-36hr fast once a week. My workouts suffer as well bc I simply don’t have the energy to workout as hard as I would on a 16hr fast.
@@HH-gv8mxthat’s interesting, I feel that too, especially since I’ve gone back to teaching pilates. I have to practise quite a bit and can’t find the balance of eating and fasting which works for me. I’ve gained weight this year! I do a 24 hr fast and whereas before I’d lose I no longer do.
@@antoinettefrancis5036 yes, very interesting. Again, for me, I’m high energy and if I’m not careful with what I eat, I will continue to lose weight, which is not the goal for myself. I do longer fast because it reallly helps with the inflammation in my shoulders. I’ve had surgery on both my shoulders a few years back and again, for me, has helped tremendously getting me through the surgery’s, PT, recovery. Having had 2 sibling die from heart disease is a huge factor also. For me, I want to be metabolically healthy and I believe longer fast helps achieve that. We are metabolically different, but I promise, stick with it and change it up. That was the key for (w Dr Mindy’s help), it was changing my fasting schedule from week to week. I hope that helps, you got this 😉 both of you!
@@HH-gv8mx please my other comment below, but try changing up your fast from week to week like Dr Mindy suggest. That was the key for me. Stick with it, once you find your sweet spot, you will start to see the results.
@HH-gv8mx That's why it's important to go back to regular eating 12:12 every often. Fasts are only effective insofar as you maintain regular eating (no fast) as your baseline.
Wow, after over a year of intermittent fasting and no significant weight loss, this 36-hour fast kicked fat burning into high gear. It really does reset you, kills past cravings, awesome.
When you don’t eat cos you sleeping is not intermittent fasting. To be honest if you doing anything less than 20 hrs fasting a day, you have no rights to call it intermittent fasting.
I ordered your book for my wife. I've done IF before (about 2 years) and failed. Now I'm back in IF and have lost 20lbs in 30 days. Feeling great. Now it's time to help my better half.
This was how I started my fasting journey, and I fast on M-W-F, lost 12lbs my first month. I love that I can cycle through the different fasting lengths. I've lost 80lbs using fasting, and my blood pressure is now at a normal range. Thank you Dr Mindy for sharing valuable information
@jt9058 Not really, I ensure I break my fast with eggs or overnight oats and add more vegetables to each meal. Even if the meals are small, I still eat 3 meals on my eating days becos if you under eat on your feast day, fast days will be harder. Eat, eat what you love, and make room for burger and pizza since we are not over restricting ourselves because we are not on a diet. Don't forget to be kind to yourself, don't try to be perfect, build your fasting length slowly, don't think you have to start with 36hrs and welcome 😊
I still don't completely understand fasting, but I'm doing it 16:8 but if we eat whatever we want, pizza, burgers, cakes, cookies etc.. how in the heck do we lose weight?? I've been doing it almost a month and am scared to get on the scale, don't want to get discouraged so I'll wait until after 2 months. Btw I no longer eat that food , I try to eat right. I don't think I'll lose weight if I eat whatever I want. What do you think??
@@joyceburns2448if you listened to the video,dr Mindy explicitly says to eat right on your feasting days. Don't listen to that person. The doctor said to break the fast with a protein (could be chicken, greek yogourt, meat whatever you like as long as it doesn't have added sugar and seed/vegetable oils). The point of fasting is to heal your body, don't purposely go and consume a ton of pro inflammatory foods.
This is so true. I started to switch up from 8/16 to 36 or 48 hr fast every two weeks. I’ve lost almost consistently. I’m 74 and was at 243lbs on my start in February. I’m at 183lbs. A ton of it around the belly. Just as you have taught me. My doctor is in awe. Thank you, thank you.
Well done Mary Francis,! That's wonderful achievement and encouragement to me ,lm just starting off on IF and awaiting my fast like a girl book, but listening to this session focused on the 36 fast ,& seeing what u did & your results ,lm keen to do it too!😊.❤
Two of my friends and I try to fast together. Last night we started our 36 hour fast with 12 hour eating. Hopefully we can encourage each other to repeat this as a 36/12, 36/12, 36/12 for about 2 weeks. We text each other asking if we are staying strong. Thank you doctor Mindy for this education.
Amazing. What’s your schedule for this? I’d like to try. This menopause weight weight gain is stubborn AF. What are the times you are fasting and eating? I supposed you’ve already working it out. Thanks
I must have done something wrong.. I fasted 46 hours (46 not 36) and broke my fast with 1/2 avocado then sardines in olive oil and boiled brussel sprouts and cabbage. Didn’t even finish the veggies my stomach felt uneasy and unsettled and had Indigestion and didn’t sleep all night my stomach felt sore inside. Is it low or high stomach acid? What happened?
@@cdl6953could be brussel sprouts and cabbage. I read than long fastings weaken the gur lining, so we need to go with easy to digest, soft food to break fasting. Those are tough and gassy for many people on regular diet.
This was my progress with doing ADF, LCIF, and Keto, from 65kg (143lbs) down to 56kg (123lbs) that was my lowest so far in just 2 months. On September, I was losing around 1.3kg weekly with ADF and Keto. And then when October came, my weight didn’t go down anymore. And I was craving carbs. I thought I was doing something wrong with my weight loss journey. On Nov 11, I took a pregnancy test, and it was POSITIVE. No wonder I wasn’t loosing weight anymore because I’m pregnant! 😅 It seems like with my fasting, keto diet, and I also drank some detox drink, with all of those it actually eliminated the toxins and healed my body and made it ready to bear a child. Me and my husband actually tried to have a baby like 2 months prior to starting my fasting journey, but nothing. And now we are expecting! Thank you Jesus 💕 Now I stopped fasting to nurture the growing baby inside me. my weight is going up again. Atleast I know now how to lose weight a year after giving birth 😅
I saw you on Diary of a CEO, I was having a gallbladder attack and it was about 2.5 weeks ago. I was crying that entire day and contemplating letting my doctor take it out. Out of desperation I just stopped eating and my gallbladder calmed. Before eating again, I drank ACV and water and just listened to you on every video I could find. It’s been over two weeks and I’ve lost almost 9 lb, passed 4 stones and the pain has come down 75%. I’m surprised! I was so worried about my liver dumping cholesterol but by paying attention to my body and easing into fasting, my body is enjoying the changes and I’m starting to feel good. My mood!!!! Much better. My energy is high during the day and I sleep much better. I learned to let my body rest after eating and its changing my life from anxiety coming down, my symptoms are milder and I’m regular. I have high hopes that my hormones will be more balanced too, but time will tell. I’m so grateful I finally listened to you… and to ME! Thanks, Doc!
Just wondering, so I have gallstones too. Trying to cure them. I started fasting and at 24 hour mark, I started getting diarrhea, yellow poop (bile acid dump). Did you face the same issue? I started on Day 1 of period and went upto 36 hours. Now I’m planning to go on with omad..
hey @alissaj8892 In your comment, you mentioned experiencing gallbladder pain and then turning to fasting. I'm curious, had you done any kind of fasting before the gallbladder pain started? I'm wondering if there might be a link between any prior fasting and the development of gallstones. As I myself I started ADF (alternate day fasting) a while back and had great results. I lost weight, felt fantastic, and noticed overall health improvements. However, after 4-5 weeks, I started experiencing stomach discomfort, bloating, and indigestion, which progressed to a severe abdominal pain episode that landed me in the ER. They diagnosed me with multiple small gallstones (largest 4mm). The doctor recommended a cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal), but I'm truly hesitant about surgery. Since the diagnosis, I've been dedicated to a healthy diet and exercise to improve my health. I still have some weight to lose to reach my ideal BMI and honestly, ADF made me feel amazing. I've heard stories of people managing gallstones without surgery, and I'm wondering if anyone here has experience with this. My questions are: Is there a known link between ADF and developing gallstones? If I want to continue ADF to reach my weight goals, how can I modify it to minimize the risk of further gallstone formation? Like what is your fasting window and what do you consume during fasting window and eating window (like i have heard that consuming a tbsp of good fats [olive oil] during fasting window could help prevent gallstones) as you are now successful in loosing weight with fasting, also you managed to pass out 4 gall stones. Truly hoping that you could help me in getting back to my fasting routine! p.s I would really appreciate any advice since you have successfully managed gallstones without surgery.
I’m 37 years old just started an intermittent fasting.. with a 22 hour fasting and two hour eating window. already lost 10 pounds in 3 fast ,back to back and feel great … I have tried different diets, never seen success, quite as fast as this… For my New life style 🎉❤
My current fasting regiment is 36/12 three times per month, and the rest of the time I 18/6 😀 Never felt better in my life. I am 61. My diet is healthy food and moderate carbs.
Such a useful video; I'm 26 hours into a 36 hour fast. I'm doing it specifically for weight loss. The longer fasts are amazing for shedding those unwanted pounds. I can do the 24 hr fasts quite easily and find that they're no longer making me lose more weight.
@@RBMproductionsSAno that’s not the point. As Dr Mindy said in this video and others. Everyone is different. The shorter intermittent fasts worked amazing for me and I lost a lot of weight rather quickly. But then I hit a plateau. I’d never done longer fasts and gave them a try. They’ve been working to shed those last 15 lbs or so that still would like to shed. Majority of the time I do shorter fasts to maintain my results and keep my PCOS hormones balanced.
@@preetigill2286oh definitely. I’ve found that right after ovulation I can handle the longer fasts. Last month I did a 48 hr fast starting on day 16 of my cycle. I hadn’t planned on it but found that I could extend my fast. The week before my period and around ovulation time, I do shorter intermittent fasts. I have PCOS so I need to be really mindful of my cycle or I get cranky.
I bought your book, just figured out WHY I “ fell off the wagon and gained all weight back” I had an accident and needed antibiotics. After ALL the work I’d done for 3 years of building a beast of a gut microbiome. I started craving all the bad stuff again. So now this is day one AGAIN 😢
I’ve just started doing longer fasts. I did a 89hr one last week and currently 21hrs into a 72hr one and I can’t believe how easy it is! The only reason I ended at 89hrs is because I had a social event and didn’t want to drink on an empty stomach (I know alcohol probs isn’t recommended but I’m a 22yrs old Brit so pub is essential). Love the videos, it’s so interesting to hear what’s going on inside during a fast so thank you
Hey Marcy, great job with your IF! Please don't go longer than 36 hours more than once a week. A longer fast should only be done once a season or less and science has proven that more than 72 hours fasting, will burn muscle and slow your metabolism down for up to 6 months!! (Known as the biggest loser syndrome, where you can damage your metabolism - it's detailed in the Fast. Feast. Repeat. book).
This is 100% true!!! I saw an interview where you quoted this study. I started doing 18 hour fasts the week prior and I never thought I could do this. But now I'm 3 months into doing 36/12 and then taking Friday and Saturday off. I'm down 21lbs. I used to struggle with my workouts the mornings where I was a good 34-35 hours in but even that has become a non issue, and I'm talking about doing weights some days and running 5-7 miles other days. My biggest problem continues to be the emotional/psychological pull I have towards sugary foods. If I can do better with that during my eating windows, I'm sure I'll see even faster results. Thank you Dr. Mindy! My life has changed since July when I first discovered who you are and I started studying your methods.
Try out supplements such as berberine, magnesium... I ve noticed they made a difference as to controlling sugar cravings. Keep it up you are on the right track for sure❤
I have lost about 5 kg from fasting, 24, 36 and 48 hours every month since May this year, and also improved my mood (dopamine resistence) and my artrosis in my feet big time.... But greatest of all; I have COPD but now my bronchitis is GONE!!!! Completely! Thank God for Dr. Mindy! Now I am going after my emphysema and the last 2 kg I want to drop.
Wow, that's incredible progress! 🌟 Fasting has truly made a positive impact on your health. Keep up the fantastic work on your journey towards improved well-being. You're doing amazing! 💪🌿😊
I am about to be 52 in about 2 weeks, complete hysterectomy 3 years ago.. I did a 62 hour fast earlier this week and felt amazing. My blood sugar improved drastically! As I type this, amazon is on their way to deliver your book Fast Like a Girl that I ordered earlier today!! I am hoping to do alternate 36/12 days. I have over 100 lbs to lose!
After going low carb and losing over 50lbs 8yrs ago I've now gained 10lbs of belly fat! At 57 and post menopausal I've had major stress the past two yrs as my husband suffered cardiac arrest. I'm now working full time again and take care of everything as he has memory issues. I can easily do a 24 hr fast and have just started adding a 36 hr a few times a week but can't budge this belly!
I like to do a 40 hour fast and eat for 8 hours the next day. I eat dinner and then fast the next day and eat lunch on the next day. It has worked well for me. Being in the fasting day might not be super fun, but I like the results!
Wow! This is great! I do something very similar with the help of the Life App. I fast for 48hours then have a 4hour eating period. During the eating window I avoid processed carbs. In 1.5 months I have dropped 15kgs and feel much better!
Wow. I'm trying but nothing in a month. Feeling 😮 what am I doing wrong? I'm Perimenopausal. Any suggestions? Would you mind sharing your fast and eating window please. I have Dr Mindy book, and read the 36 hr. 😢😢
@@juliannyagahima3748starving yourself for 2 days, then only giving yourself 4 hours to eat, is not healthy. That's very much an Ed. Of course you're going to lose a lot weight when you are constantlyyy starving yourself. Please don't be afraid to eat. You shouldn't be losing that much weight so fast. It's so hard on your body, can ruin your metabolism, leave you with loose skin, etc. You will become malnourished so fast. It is okay to, and you should be, eating more than 4 hours in a 100 hour period. 48 starve. 4 eat. 48 starve is you only eating during 4 hours in a 100hour time frame. Please don't let fasting turn into an ED. Unless you could qualify for the show "my 500lb life" there is no justified reason to do that schedule. Even if you manage to eat 1600 calories in that 4 hours, that still equals out to less than 1k calories a day.
Hello ladies! I engage in fasting and do enjoy the benefits of a 36 hour fast. For my ladies who still have a menstrual cycle, know that this fast can cause it to shift or be late. I am not sure why this isn’t addressed in the videos but just a heads up for those who are considering this.
Dr. Mindy’s book Fast Like a Girl talks about how to fast according to your menstrual cycle. That’s probably why she didn’t bring it up in this video. 🎉🎉
Ladys, our body doesn't like the fasting during progesteron making, so don't fast after the 20th day of your cycle. Try to fast during the first half of your menstrual cycle. Estrogen likes fasting
So true, 36 hours and 72 hours was the miracle for my case, after months of struggle doing intermitent fast and carnivore, ketogenic and no weight lost! I've heard from an endocrinologist who uses fasting to heal also says that for those with insuline resistance sometimes it's really necessary longer fastings, and so I did my first 72 hours starting from the second day of my period, it was a miracle...! My trousers are fitting better, I'm finally losing fat!
Just finishing a 24-hour fast, went great, and I hope to start incorporating my first 36 hour fast next week! I have 25 pounds of fat to lose and list of health to gain. It's important to be patient with the journey. Many people here have been hugely successful with consistency.
I too, have 25lbs to lose and am about to enter my first (intentional) 36 hour fast as intermittent fasting has not worked for me over the past three months. I have read Dr Mindy's book and planned the fast around some study I am doing so it does not interfere with an exam. I am also 67 and sick of my belly sitting on my thighs when I sit down. Wishing you (and me) all the success....WE GOT THIS!!!!!
I am a fan of alternate day fasting, so I fast Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I don't count calories during my eating days, and focus on a carnivore diet (meats, mostly beef, eggs and butter), which has surprisingly been great! Eating all that animal proteins and fats makes it very difficult to overeat. I just eat until satiated throughout the day on my eating days. I would say it took about a week for me to get used to it so that during my fasting window, I didn't have too much hunger and I can tell it's all mental/emotional during that time, like, "I am bored," not true hunger. Plus, not having to do dishes or buy food for three days out of the week, that's a plus!
I'm male, 193cm and was 148 kgs on 7th August this year. I've only been eating between 1000 and 1800hrs, sometimes not having anything in the morning and eating at noon. I've been walking a minimum of 5 kms a day and as if today I'm down to 128kg. I want to get down to 120kgs. Thanks Doctor for your advice, it helped a bunch.!
i love 36h fasting! actually for me, was what make me do the reset i need with my overweight. during a period of 7 moth i lose 20 kg in a very nice way but what i love the most is the distance from the food, at the same time in the festing state i love to see the awerenes that my body give me in relation of what is the best food that was good for me. also help me to remenber that naturally, before i got the overweight always did one o two meals a day be in the lunch most of the time my main meal.
Hi @indigo991 Thank you for reading Fast Like A Girl! 📚It would mean the world to me if you would take a moment to help spread the word and to leave a review of the book from wherever you purchased it! 🙏😍
I'm 71 and have been doing IF since April 2022. I had really good success for 5 months. However, I got lazy and thought that maintaining a 16:8 fasting / feeding cycle would sustain me. It didn't, and I gained back about 10 lbs, and my body created a new setpoint. I've been trying to think the right way and only see small losses. Then I found you and listened to the alternate day or 36-hour schedule. Boom, I've lost 12 lbs in about 5-6 weeks and reached my initial goal. Now I'm going for another 10 lbs and have a strong belief I'll get there with this method. Thanks again.
Great to hear about your success! It sounds like the alternate day or 36-hour fasting schedule is working well for you. Keep up the great work, and best of luck reaching your next goal! 💙 Dr. Mindy's Team
Dr. Mindy. I did the 36 hour fast. Was super easy and I did feel the energy increase which you mention. Am doing 36 hour fast 2/3 times a month. Along with the odd 16/18 hours. Freedom, energy and I’m loving my flat belly and waist line!!!💯🌓🙌
Dr mindey Tell me about fasting I'm 43 years and premenopause cycle .last two months ago peards have come with out medicine .. What should I do 😢 My weight is 90
Watch Indian lecturer introduce you to world of applications of complex numbers. Either you sleep 10mins into video, or you actually learn a new skill. Both ways, you win. *chuckles*
I started ADF on the 1st of March after having alternated between 16:8 and Omad and so far I've lost about 3.5 kgs and my body has adapted to the system I love it so far.
Have been doing 36 hour fasting once a week for the past several months. Starting 6 pm Friday night and to around 9 Sunday morning. Have not seen much weight loss but do keep the weight in the range. Only if I control the food/ alcohol intake in the other days, I would see some weight loss.
I love the advise to go to bed. That's what I do, but maybe not as early as 6 or 7. I'm more like 9:30 which is really early for me. But it works. The 36 hour fast is great. I just need to master the rest of the week to maintain the weight loss. Thank you for your videos Dr Mindy. Really helpful.
Great information. Simple, easy to follow, and effective. Centers around the water fast - which is simplicity itself. My approach to fasting : every week for the past two years , 2 day (48 hr) water fast , then 2 days @ 1 low carb meal per day, then 1 day (24 hr) water fast, then 2 days (typically Sat & Sun) reward myself by eating/drinking anything I want and in any quantity. At 6 ft tall, this has gotten me from 200 lbs down to 167 lbs and into my 32 waist Levi’s 501s in less than 6 months. Now I’m just maintaining that weight, but continue this lifestyle for health benefits.
I have been following Dr Mindy for a while now since I became postpartum and struggling to loose weight. Thanks so much for your continued dedication to help us get to our optimal health. You are a gem. Just started and Still going. My body is already starting to love the food breaks😂
After reading "Fast like a girl" (this book is now my bible :)))) ), I changed my perspective on fasting. Today I just finished 72h water fasting respecting all 4 phases of breaking a fast, and I feel great. From tomorow I'm in Nurture Phase and I will stop fasting, I am very grateful to have discovered you, Dr. Mindy! I can't wait to read "The reset factor" which I just ordered. I lost almost 5 kg and I keep going :D Can you please make a video about psoriasis, what should we eat and not eat, with this condition . Thank you very much! Greatings from Romania!
Thank you Mindy, i have the book fast like a girl. I love your passion and watch your videos during my fasts which helps keep me on track. Im 57,post menopausal, with M.S & restrictive mobility and pre diabetic.ive done 2 x72 hr water fasts, 1x48hr fast and now going to try 36/12 for the next couple of weeks.I lost 14lb in a month. I only weigh myself 1x month this is because i don't want to make it into a fad diet in my head but rather a way of life. Even though i have a few pounds to lose,im in no rush.
If your goal is a water fast, it would be only water. New research says, for beginners in order to train to fast longer they can have a fasted snack 2 hours before they have planned to break their fast. With a fasted snack you are healing and training body to be metabolically flexible. Some people need hacks every now and then. 😍
I take a zipfizz with water in the morning and then drink water the rest of the day. I've tried the lmnt packets and Love them I would really like to take them instead of the zipfizz. I tried to have a diet soda during a fast day and it literally made the fast 100 times harder. I stick to a low carb diet most the time because it makes me feel the best physically and mentally. On one of the study's done for a 36/12 they eat whatever during the 12 hours. For me this isn't the case I find it makes the fasting days harder. I break my fast with a organic chicken bone broth from Costco it's affordable and really good. We also have some eggs with kimchi and bought some sauerkraut to do the same. I listen to fasting videos while I'm fasting and that helps a lot with endurance and reminds me of all the wonderful things my body is doing. I'm not perfect at it I just know what has been working for me through trial and error. I love what Dr Mindy said in a video.."Never feel bad for how long you were able to fast" ❤️ Thank you Dr Mindy for all your years of research it's truly inspiring 💕🙏 I have lost 6lbs over the two weeks and I find staring at 6pm and then breaking it at 6am on the 36hr has been really great.
@@courtneydeschaine3081 never heard of zip fizz and can’t get LMNT in Aus unfortunately. I’ve also just been told my marker for thyroid anti bodies is borderline not great (zero symptoms!!!). Wants me off all dairy, wheat and goitrogens for six months. Then retest. So I guess it’s eggs, lard, meat and berries for me. Cabbage, Brussels, cauli etc being keto i thought I could keep on my plate, so yummy, but no, not for now. Gonna be interesting!
I’ve done 2 36hr fasts in the last 4months I started following you. They really work, lost belly fat. 36hr fast is so challenging for me. Haven’t been able to do another one. Hopefully when my cycle starts again
Just finished 36 hours, I'm on hour 37 at 9:30am. I hope I can. Push to nearly 40-42 this afternoon. I'm 42 female and this is my third 36 hour+ fast in this cycle. Yeah, I'm listening, I'm using my cycle as a guide.
Thank you, Dr. Mindy!!! I am currently doing ADF is 36 hours definitely gets me to my goals. I noticed that my hunger has decreased, and it takes less food o make me feel full.
I do 36 hours every Monday. I’ve experienced an acceleration in ketones if you work out. Usually Monday morning, I go on a 4 to 5 mile walk. I also train on Sunday the day prior. On Tuesday I just eat my maintenance calories. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday I’m in a 500 cal deficit. Saturday I eat maintenance +150 to 300 cal additional carbohydrate. I have lost 7 pounds in seven weeks. I also take mineral salt with water and water during the fast. I break my fast with bone broth.
Im 9 days in alt fasting.... started at 160 and down to 152. I'm pushing for 30 days total. I drink pickle juice when i get hungry or need a different taste other than tea coffee or mineral water
I had just done twice my 36 hours fast. Extended until 43-48 hours in 1 week. I loss 1 kg. Now, my BP had dropped to normal . The numbness of my 2 arms upon waking up is gone, too. I find that the longer i extend my fast the easier it gets for me to control my urge of eating. As my fasting progress, the hunger just disappeared. Tqvm for this wonderful information by Dr. Mindy.
Just finished a 72 hr fast! Hearing your interviews and hearing about fasting from you got me motivated in doing it! Thank you for teaching us woman more than doctors ! May god protect you and bless you always!
I love to fast and want to fast 36 hr with 12 hr eating window. For a month. But what about our cycles and hormones?? It's just a matter of a month. Dr. Mindy I really believe in you. So just give me an approval to do 36/12 hr fasting/ feasting (respectively). So that I can loose all my extra body fat in a month.
Thank you Dr Mindy, you’re about the third credible person I’ve heard give this suggestion/advice on ADF to finally lose belly/upper body fat and it’s what I need to do as well as change my mindset and remove underlying background stress.
Since watching one of Dr. Mindy's videos last year on 36 hour fasts, I've been doing a 36-hour weekly fast for about a year and am loving the results. I'm so relieved I don't have that big gut anymore (still working on a smaller gut though). I've managed to keep off over 30 pounds for the last year, something I haven't been able to do in decades. During the rest of the week I eat whatever I want when I'm not fasting. I do prefer lots of fresh fruits and vegetables with my meals but also overdo it occasionally on chocolate and pizza once a week or less and not nearly as often as I used to because over this last year my body is learning to not overdo it nearly as often. Also my labs are much improved and everything is in normal range! I love watching Dr. Mindy's videos and her enthusiasm and encouragement helps me to want to challenge myself more. Right now I'm struggling with trying to find something to put in my coffee (on the days I'm not fasting) besides sugar that will make it taste good but not cause my weight to slowly pick back up. I haven't found any flavored coffees I'm crazy about yet but just love the sweet taste of sugar too much I think... Any ideas out there?
On my second one of the week right now and day 5 of my period and feeling fine. Hungry, but fine. Lol. Aside from the usual bit of fatigue, all period symptoms like pain and inflammation are almost none.
Just did my first 36 hour fast and did it with a friend. So much easier than I thought it would be. For sure, I will be doing this at least once a month. I have lost 10 pounds in alittle over 3 weeks. Thank you for these videos!!!

36 hour is sooo sweet at kicking in my fat loss. It's so effective, that I just keep it in my back pocket, if I'm really, really, stuck for ages. Then I'll use it. But I tend to get myself back under control, just before I do. I don't want to always rely on it, is all.
I’m struggling to loose my last 25 pounds. I’m Struggling to stay consistent with the fast and I’m craving badly for sugar after I’ve already lost 40 pounds reading and following your book how do I get unstuck 😢
I’m 19 hours into a 36 hour fast. This my second one. This time feels a little easier since I kind of know what to expect. Last time, I really struggled with the 19 hour mark, but seem to be good this time. Thanks Dr. Mindy! I read your book last week and it gave me that little push I needed to get into longer fasts! 💙
I've been struggling for almost two years to drop weight with fasting and keto. Also, struggling to get past 24 hrs fasting. I decided I was going to do it this time. I started fasting at 7:00 Thursday night. Struggled through dinner time Friday. When I went to bed I had a chill but thought I was just cold like everybody else because the temperature had dropped significantly during the day. However when I woke up shivering in the middle of the night I thought I might have a fever. When I took my temperature it read 94.4! I immediately broke my fast with warm bone broth. I'm so disappointed and frustrated. I don't know what to do or where to look now.
I’m sorry to hear your struggle. I tried to go 24 hours years ago and I failed spectacularly. So I went 16/8 for a few days. Then I go 18/6. When I became better, I went 20/4. Slowly working my way up to 24 hours fast. Show compassion for yourself. Instead of being disappointed that you failed to do a 24 hrs fast, thank you your body for wanting to survive by asking you to eat. You can succeed in accomplishing your fast. You just have to take it slow and persevere.
You should add a few calories in the start such as (50-500 Cal). Once you get used to the routine, you'll easily be able to handle your hunger and cravings.
Sounds like you had hypoglycemia. Fasting isn't for everyone. Maybe try less long fasts, 16:8 gave me good results. Going low carb is what helped me but you need to make sure that doing so works for you. Working out also causes autophagy and brings similar results
Great video! QUESTION: everytime i do a 36+ hour fast (usually 1-2× a month for gut health and spiritual reasons) I wake up at 1 or 2 in the morning. It's nothing traumatic- I simply wake up like it's my usually time to get up and I feel ready to go- only it's in the middle of the night!! Dr. Mindy, can you explain why this is?
The same for me, I had a very bad sleep the 2nd night and I woke up early with a high heart rate. It was unpleasant. Dr. Mindy, how can we improve sleep the 2nd night please? I cannot take my valeriane because it contains sugar and it will break my fast.
Kia ora, hello to all the fasting family Out there I have just ended my 3 days fasting period found that challenging but satisfying, look forward to trying the 36hr program So appreciate your insight into this.👍
Such great information and bliss to have info focused on women. Question - if one wanted to go for the 30 day - 36 hour - 12 eating window, could we do that while still exercising? I want to try it but don’t want to lose muscle gain from training. Thanks so much 🙏
She answered this in a video, it's under different ways too break your fast and the effects. Or could be under breaking fast with protein and what it does. I would also watch exercise and fasting. But I remember she said you won't loose muscle if you eat a lot or protein after 50. But the video might clear it up for you.
Am 9 hours into my second consecutive week of a 36 hour fast. Hoping this one is even easier as I know what to expect. After this one is done tomorrow morning I need to decide what the rest of my week is looking like, I haven’t figured that out yet. Great video!!
If you honestly want to lose weight, do a 36h every other day. Throw in a 60h fast once a week and watch the results in minimal time. Long story short, models have it figured out (OMG!!!) - if you want to lose weight, don't eat.
@@user-my3qi8te2d I was amazed.... at first I was trying 36h on a low calorie diet and then though I'd give that 60h a go, and after 6 months of low calorie diet and weekly 36h fasts, the 60h fast wasn't actually hard. I definitely knew about it though.... mentally on 2nd day I was not as sharp as normal for sure.
Omg! I have had watery stool for over 4 months. I just finished a 77 hour fast and still pooped water. Darn Veteran's Hospital can't get me into GI until February . That means I will experience 8 months of watery stool. Literally pooping water 8-10 times a day and the VA is like, "Oh it's okay." I don't eat anything that is not a whole food, no bread, no processed foods, no sugar, natural carbs from fruit and veggies . I am so over being sick!!!! I wish a fast would fix me! I eat sour kraut and other probiotic foods. I just don't understand what is going on with my body. Uggg!! Please pray for me. Unfortunately Veterans are second class citizens when it comes to healthcare.
This happened to me too. I had to stop eating fruits and vegetables as well. I ate only meats, mostly beef/ eggs and once in a while pork, chicken and seafood and it helped me so much!!!
Read the book over the winter holidays. So thorough and love that the scientific evidences are aligned with other books like Glucose Revolution. I haven’t had much luck with 16hr fasting(for more than 3 months, no weight drop. 5’5”, 136 lbs) so I started 36hr fasting today after a couple of days of 16-17hr fasting to prep my body and mind, eaten clean with the right foods and also I’m in my Power Phase on my cycle! I’m excited. 35 more hours to go😂
I wouldn't recommend anything indefinitely. Variation in our fasting and our eating is key! Try it for a couple weeks and see how you do, then change it up. 🙌💙
Always super info! I’m fasting but not to lose weight, I’m curious about other health benefits to a 36 hour fast. One of my reasons for fasting, I have a few, but one of my reasons for this next fast is that I hope it will help with food cravings. I’m dealing with a kind of addiction to sweet food and a bad habit of going for it repeatedly, even when I know that this won’t be good for me!
LMNT does not break my fast and many others have tested and told me it does not break their fast. YOU would need to test to know if it impacts yours and make a decision for you. 💙👍
I've seen, before even watching this video, that a 36 hour fast really catapults fat loss. For me, I don't see it immediately but after having broken my fast and waking from my sleep, I literally have lost my tummy fat.
Hi Mindy, I've done a 36 hour fast twice now. I've got your book which sets out times of the month when its not good to fast, so I'm confused about the idea of adf for 30 days? Won't that mean fasting at the times of your cycle its best to not fast?
is there a greater benefit of 48hr fasting over 36hr? I have been fasting for 36 hours every week since January and now hit a wall my weight has been the same fro 2 months, so I'm curious to try a 48-hour fast every other week. Down 71 pounds with fasting and carnivore diet
I’ve been intermittent fasting for 3 months. I’ve been losing consistently 1-2 lbs. a week. This week I hit a wall. I’ve been on a plateau for a couple of weeks. I’m throwing in the 36 hour fast today. I hope it works. 🙏
There was a man I knew who did work on our house. He went on to lose 100 pounds. Each day, he’d pack all food he planned to consume-all meals and snacks for each day being placed in a large brown paper grocery bag. He was half-way through, the 100-pound weight loss-and he hit a serious plateau, even though his food was perfectly measured and controlled. His brother was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer, and he left to go spend three days with his brother who lived in his home town, Chicago. He was distraught, depressed, and truly frightened for his brother. They ate at all their favorite restaurants, such as deep-dish pizza, and he enjoyed his favorite burgers, though he knew this would set his weight loss endeavors back. To his surprise], he returned home, and though he’d gained a few pounds, he returned to his disciplined eating routine at once. The weight started to come off at a good pace. So, his rule for the last 50 pounds was that for every 10 pounds lost, he’d have a big weekend of eating. Some do Sunday’s off-plan to keep the metabolism stoked. This is all just food for thought.
I was really afraid of that the first time I went beyond 24 hours. Because when I do shorter ones I get hungry at different times. But I’ve found the longer I go the hunger diminishes and I have actually slept better.
@@amandatkids854 Hey we might really have the same name! Well, I've tried it after not eating all day and unless I'm an emotional wreck and crashing it doesn't seem to work.
@@mamandapanda185 I noticed the similarities 😄 hmmm Dr Mindy talks about having a good amount of both good fats and clean protein before a longer fast….could that be the missing link for you to feel better doing a 36?
If the magic starts to happen at 36 hours, does that mean we should push our fasts out farther than that? If yes, how many hours past 36 should we go to get the benefits you talk about here?
@@DrMindyPelz Thank you. So if I understand this chart correctly, if we go to 36 hours and stop we have received the benefits noted there for a 36-hour fast, but to get the next level of benefits we need to fast for 48 hours. Is that correct?
Correct. And at 72 hours mark you will get to the maximum benefit. (Stem sells, autofagy on its max). You don't have to do it often, from what I heard from Dr Mindy even once a year of 72 hours is great.
I’m doing a course and they surprised us with a 3 days fast. But tbh the first day felt like digesting only I was very weak but made a delicious electrolyte drink with acv salt and lemon water was so good in no time I was feeling so much better I’m grateful I did the the 3 days I can definitely feel a difference and my body needed a break 💝💜💚
Same! It makes me not want to do it. Mentally, I’d rather lose the weight gradually than see what looks like a setback on the scale. Experiencing that is not good for my mental health. 😕
@@AutumnSwatches I totally get it. I eat well and don’t consume what she suggests we don’t (been doing that for many years) and I do the 36 hour, feel great, loose weight and then eat well, not over eat and break my fats with protein, and then the following day I gain weight back and then the following day I gain again. It’s so frustrating.
Yeah, I understand your frustration. The last time I did an extended fast, I broke my fast with healthy fat and plenty of protein. But I resumed intermittent fasting schedule and I stayed in ketosis a while longer. Then I refed with carbs and the weight just dropped off and stayed off. Staying away from refined carbs may not mean staying away from starchy veggies. I need a bit of heathy carbs to lose weight. Try some different things to see what works for you.
Try building muscles they help to keep the wight off. I lost 30lb in 2.5 months and i was able to keep it of for the most part it flactuates but gym helps as i get there and implement healthy eating, i go back to losing weight much faster then before, in one week i already see the difference
I followed Dr Mindy advice and mixed up my Fasting Doing a mix of fasting hours for 3 days followed by 3 days of 24 hour fasting and then 1 day of no food ending around 42 hours Finally my Belly is going down Thank you Dr
I'm trying to push a 36-hour fast. Here for my Dr. Mindy motivation. I do 15-17 hours regularly. Only did 24 hours twice and only one 36 hour fast. I've lost 10kg on this journey. But I've hit a plateau.

This combined with exercising within 2 hours of wakeup with cortisol at its highest.
When you don’t eat cos you sleeping is not intermittent fasting. To be honest if you doing anything less than 20 hrs fasting a day, you have no rights to call it intermittent fasting.
Mindy,
You are a blessing from God to a 54 year old black male who struggled with weight issues for years. Fasting is free and awesome ❤
Way to go!! 🙌
I’m going to start doing this. Did you eat anything special during your eating window?
@@lilascharmante2712 Thank you, I'm definitely trying to heal my body and lose weight, so I'm definitely listening to the video and you. Thanks

Thanks
How have you been doing so far? Have you lost any weight? Please update us 🙏 as I ve just started this journey yesterday 😊
I must have done something wrong.. I fasted 46 hours (46 not 36) and broke my fast with 1/2 avocado then sardines in olive oil and boiled brussel sprouts and cabbage. Didn’t even finish the veggies my stomach felt uneasy and unsettled and had
Indigestion and didn’t sleep all night my stomach felt sore inside. Is it low or high stomach acid? What happened?
Do you offer pbwf proteins, I don’t eat meat
It seems like with my fasting, keto diet, and I also drank some detox drink, with all of those it actually eliminated the toxins and healed my body and made it ready to bear a child.
Me and my husband actually tried to have a baby like 2 months prior to starting my fasting journey, but nothing. And now we are expecting! Thank you Jesus 💕
Now I stopped fasting to nurture the growing baby inside me. my weight is going up again. Atleast I know now how to lose weight a year after giving birth 😅
💙💙
This is beautiful, thank you Jesus💖🫶🏽
Congrats, May I ask were u eating clean like grass-fed meats or just went normal eating with good side choices like veg/low carb?
I hope your pregnancy went well! ❤
You are amazing!! You let your miraculous, self healing body do what it needed to do! Rock Star! 💪👑🙌 Congratulations! 💙
Just wondering, so I have gallstones too. Trying to cure them. I started fasting and at 24 hour mark, I started getting diarrhea, yellow poop (bile acid dump). Did you face the same issue? I started on Day 1 of period and went upto 36 hours. Now I’m planning to go on with omad..
hey @alissaj8892
In your comment, you mentioned experiencing gallbladder pain and then turning to fasting.

Such a useful video; I'm 26 hours into a 36 hour fast. I'm doing it specifically for weight loss. The longer fasts are amazing for shedding those unwanted pounds. I can do the 24 hr fasts quite easily and find that they're no longer making me lose more weight.
absolutely! it would fit in your power phase 👍💙
😮😮😮 that is worrying. So 36 is also noy going to work later on?
I have PCOS so I need to be really mindful of my cycle or I get cranky.

break a fast: boil two eggs. eat the eggs whites, then yolks with sea salt. add bone broth, one cup.
That is OKAY!! You've got this! 💪🤗
YOU changed your life! 🥳💙 Congratulations! 👑💪

Even if you manage to eat 1600 calories in that 4 hours, that still equals out to less than 1k calories a day.
Im currently on 36 hour fast.❤
Hello ladies! I engage in fasting and do enjoy the benefits of a 36 hour fast. For my ladies who still have a menstrual cycle, know that this fast can cause it to shift or be late. I am not sure why this isn’t addressed in the videos but just a heads up for those who are considering this.
Dr. Mindy’s book Fast Like a Girl talks about how to fast according to your menstrual cycle. That’s probably why she didn’t bring it up in this video. 🎉🎉
@@erikamccall1288 thank you!!
Exactly!!!!!!!! @@erikamccall1288
Ladys, our body doesn't like the fasting during progesteron making, so don't fast after the 20th day of your cycle.
Try to fast during the first half of your menstrual cycle. Estrogen likes fasting
10 days before you’re period, you’re not supposed to fast.
Way to go!! 🙌💪

I would be great if Dr. Mindy created an app named "Fast like a girl" to help us fast according to our period circle😊
She has one. I have it. :)
Amazing idea!

I am excited to start some fasting once I finished breastfeeding! Lol, just realized I am commenting with my husband’s account 😄.

Congratulations!❤
20kgs in 3 months, amazing 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Oh jeez thats alot of metric measurements for this American lol. But congratz on your weight loss!
i love 36h fasting! actually for me, was what make me do the reset i need with my overweight. during a period of 7 moth i lose 20 kg in a very nice way but what i love the most is the distance from the food, at the same time in the festing state i love to see the awerenes that my body give me in relation of what is the best food that was good for me. also help me to remenber that naturally, before i got the overweight always did one o two meals a day be in the lunch most of the time my main meal.
Just ordered the book and I’m moving into a 36hr fast this weekend. I’m so excited!

@@samanthajones8300 I just let go. If sleep comes, it comes. 🤦🏾♀️
I’ve seen research where it says when fasting for longer periods you need less sleep because the sleep you do get is higher quality

Same here. By a sheer miracle I did 2 this week. But ya I can barely do one a week, it ends up being an omad sometimes
Thank you for sharing! I’m doing another 36 hour fast today, (it’s my fourth one) and I’ve gone down about 6 lbs from the start.

I’m doing a 24 fast today and and losing weight and doing a healthy lifestyle thanks

We've been doing 36/12 for the past 2 week l. We start at 6pm and it's great
great! Are you breaking your 36 hr fast with fat e.g. avo or egg? Love to know what you eat in your 12 hr window? Have you lost much weight? TIA:))))
Do you water fast or do you allow yourself an Avocado, Raw Nut Butter or Keto cups she recommends? I haven't been able to go past 26 hours yet 🙈

Others can chime in, but you might need to up your metabolism by doing some regular exercise, like walking.
I wake up early as well on my 36 h fasts. It hasn’t happened this week but I took melatonin. Still, if I don’t I wake up so early.
The same for me, I had a very bad sleep the 2nd night and I woke up early with a high heart rate. It was unpleasant.
Dr. Mindy, how can we improve sleep the 2nd night please? I cannot take my valeriane because it contains sugar and it will break my fast.

Hello, how long can I stay on 36/12? Would my body adjust after 30 days I will stop loosing weight? Or I can stay in this regime indefinitely ?
I wouldn't recommend anything indefinitely. Variation in our fasting and our eating is key! Try it for a couple weeks and see how you do, then change it up. 🙌💙
Always super info! I’m fasting but not to lose weight, I’m curious about other health benefits to a 36 hour fast. Hi there, keep us posted on your progress! 💙Dr Mindy's Team
I don't understand how y'all fall asleep with your belly ferociously protesting
I was really afraid of that the first time I went beyond 24 hours. Because when I do shorter ones I get hungry at different times. But I’ve found the longer I go the hunger diminishes and I have actually slept better.

But tbh the first day felt like digesting only I was very weak but made a delicious electrolyte drink with acv salt and lemon water was so good in no time I was feeling so much better
I’m grateful I did the the 3 days I can definitely feel a difference and my body needed a break 💝💜💚
Why do I gain weight back after a 36!hour? I lose Like 4-5 lbs with the 36 and then the next morning, the weight is back. At least 2-4 lbs of it.
I followed Dr Mindy advice and mixed up my Fasting
Doing a mix of fasting hours for 3 days followed by 3 days of 24 hour fasting and then 1 day of no food ending around 42 hours
Finally my Belly is going down
Thank you Dr
🙌🤗
I'm trying to push a 36-hour fast. Here for my Dr. Mindy motivation. I do 15-17 hours regularly. Only did 24 hours twice and only one 36 hour fast. I've lost 10kg on this journey. But I've hit a plateau.
