    I’m 59 and am at my optimal weight. But if I feel my clothes are a little snug, a couple of back to back 36 hour fast does the trick. I’ve been fasting for 3 years for metabolic health. I usually stick to one 36 hour fast a week, and 18:6 or OMAD the rest of the week. When I found Dr Mindy I was able to step it up a notch. I now throw in a 72 hour water fast every 3 months. I feel great! Thanks Dr Mindy! One more thing, to help me lose the last stubborn 10 lbs, I started making sure I was getting at least 8 hours of sleep. It made a huge difference for me.

      @HH-gv8mx Год назад +20

      I feel like I’ve slowed my metabolism down a lot by doing a 24-36hr fast once a week. My workouts suffer as well bc I simply don’t have the energy to workout as hard as I would on a 16hr fast.

      @@HH-gv8mxthat’s interesting, I feel that too, especially since I’ve gone back to teaching pilates. I have to practise quite a bit and can’t find the balance of eating and fasting which works for me. I’ve gained weight this year! I do a 24 hr fast and whereas before I’d lose I no longer do.

    • @ldolan1802
      @ldolan1802 Год назад

      @@antoinettefrancis5036 yes, very interesting. Again, for me, I’m high energy and if I’m not careful with what I eat, I will continue to lose weight, which is not the goal for myself. I do longer fast because it reallly helps with the inflammation in my shoulders. I’ve had surgery on both my shoulders a few years back and again, for me, has helped tremendously getting me through the surgery’s, PT, recovery. Having had 2 sibling die from heart disease is a huge factor also. For me, I want to be metabolically healthy and I believe longer fast helps achieve that. We are metabolically different, but I promise, stick with it and change it up. That was the key for (w Dr Mindy’s help), it was changing my fasting schedule from week to week. I hope that helps, you got this 😉 both of you!

      @jt9058 Not really, I ensure I break my fast with eggs or overnight oats and add more vegetables to each meal. Even if the meals are small, I still eat 3 meals on my eating days becos if you under eat on your feast day, fast days will be harder. Eat, eat what you love, and make room for burger and pizza since we are not over restricting ourselves because we are not on a diet.

    This was my progress with doing ADF, LCIF, and Keto, from 65kg (143lbs) down to 56kg (123lbs) that was my lowest so far in just 2 months.
    On September, I was losing around 1.3kg weekly with ADF and Keto. And then when October came, my weight didn’t go down anymore. And I was craving carbs. I thought I was doing something wrong with my weight loss journey. On Nov 11, I took a pregnancy test, and it was POSITIVE. No wonder I wasn’t loosing weight anymore because I’m pregnant! 😅
    It seems like with my fasting, keto diet, and I also drank some detox drink, with all of those it actually eliminated the toxins and healed my body and made it ready to bear a child.
    Me and my husband actually tried to have a baby like 2 months prior to starting my fasting journey, but nothing. And now we are expecting! Thank you Jesus 💕
    Now I stopped fasting to nurture the growing baby inside me. my weight is going up again. Atleast I know now how to lose weight a year after giving birth 😅

    Out of desperation I just stopped eating and my gallbladder calmed. Before eating again, I drank ACV and water and just listened to you on every video I could find.
    It’s been over two weeks and I’ve lost almost 9 lb, passed 4 stones and the pain has come down 75%. I’m surprised! I was so worried about my liver dumping cholesterol but by paying attention to my body and easing into fasting, my body is enjoying the changes and I’m starting to feel good.
    My mood!!!! Much better. My energy is high during the day and I sleep much better.
    I learned to let my body rest after eating and its changing my life from anxiety coming down, my symptoms are milder and I’m regular. I have high hopes that my hormones will be more balanced too, but time will tell. I’m so grateful I finally listened to you… and to ME! Thanks, Doc!

      hey @alissaj8892
      In your comment, you mentioned experiencing gallbladder pain and then turning to fasting. I'm curious, had you done any kind of fasting before the gallbladder pain started? I'm wondering if there might be a link between any prior fasting and the development of gallstones. As I myself I started ADF (alternate day fasting) a while back and had great results. I lost weight, felt fantastic, and noticed overall health improvements. However, after 4-5 weeks, I started experiencing stomach discomfort, bloating, and indigestion, which progressed to a severe abdominal pain episode that landed me in the ER. They diagnosed me with multiple small gallstones (largest 4mm).
      The doctor recommended a cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal), but I'm truly hesitant about surgery. Since the diagnosis, I've been dedicated to a healthy diet and exercise to improve my health. I still have some weight to lose to reach my ideal BMI and honestly, ADF made me feel amazing. I've heard stories of people managing gallstones without surgery, and I'm wondering if anyone here has experience with this.
      My questions are: Is there a known link between ADF and developing gallstones? If I want to continue ADF to reach my weight goals, how can I modify it to minimize the risk of further gallstone formation? Like what is your fasting window and what do you consume during fasting window and eating window (like i have heard that consuming a tbsp of good fats [olive oil] during fasting window could help prevent gallstones) as you are now successful in loosing weight with fasting, also you managed to pass out 4 gall stones. Truly hoping that you could help me in getting back to my fasting routine!
      p.s I would really appreciate any advice since you have successfully managed gallstones without surgery.

But now I'm 3 months into doing 36/12 and then taking Friday and Saturday off. I'm down 21lbs. I used to struggle with my workouts the mornings where I was a good 34-35 hours in but even that has become a non issue, and I'm talking about doing weights some days and running 5-7 miles other days. Of course you're going to lose a lot weight when you are constantlyyy starving yourself. Please don't be afraid to eat. You shouldn't be losing that much weight so fast. It's so hard on your body, can ruin your metabolism, leave you with loose skin, etc. You will become malnourished so fast. It is okay to, and you should be, eating more than 4 hours in a 100 hour period. 48 starve. 4 eat. 48 starve is you only eating during 4 hours in a 100hour time frame. Please don't let fasting turn into an ED. Unless you could qualify for the show "my 500lb life" there is no justified reason to do that schedule. I too, have 25lbs to lose and am about to enter my first (intentional) 36 hour fast as intermittent fasting has not worked for me over the past three months. I have read Dr Mindy's book and planned the fast around some study I am doing so it does not interfere with an exam. I am also 67 and sick of my belly sitting on my thighs when I sit down. Wishing you (and me) all the success....WE GOT THIS!!!!!

    I am a fan of alternate day fasting, so I fast Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I don't count calories during my eating days, and focus on a carnivore diet (meats, mostly beef, eggs and butter), which has surprisingly been great! Eating all that animal proteins and fats makes it very difficult to overeat. I just eat until satiated throughout the day on my eating days. I would say it took about a week for me to get used to it so that during my fasting window, I didn't have too much hunger and I can tell it's all mental/emotional during that time, like, "I am bored," not true hunger. Plus, not having to do dishes or buy food for three days out of the week, that's a plus!

    I'm 71 and have been doing IF since April 2022. I had really good success for 5 months. However, I got lazy and thought that maintaining a 16:8 fasting / feeding cycle would sustain me. It didn't, and I gained back about 10 lbs, and my body created a new setpoint. I've been trying to think the right way and only see small losses. Then I found you and listened to the alternate day or 36-hour schedule. Boom, I've lost 12 lbs in about 5-6 weeks and reached my initial goal. Now I'm going for another 10 lbs and have a strong belief I'll get there with this method. Thanks again.

    Great information. Simple, easy to follow, and effective. Centers around the water fast - which is simplicity itself. My approach to fasting : every week for the past two years , 2 day (48 hr) water fast , then 2 days @ 1 low carb meal per day, then 1 day (24 hr) water fast, then 2 days (typically Sat & Sun) reward myself by eating/drinking anything I want and in any quantity. At 6 ft tall, this has gotten me from 200 lbs down to 167 lbs and into my 32 waist Levi’s 501s in less than 6 months. Now I’m just maintaining that weight, but continue this lifestyle for health benefits.

      I take a zipfizz with water in the morning and then drink water the rest of the day. I've tried the lmnt packets and Love them I would really like to take them instead of the zipfizz. I tried to have a diet soda during a fast day and it literally made the fast 100 times harder. I stick to a low carb diet most the time because it makes me feel the best physically and mentally. On one of the study's done for a 36/12 they eat whatever during the 12 hours. For me this isn't the case I find it makes the fasting days harder. I break my fast with a organic chicken bone broth from Costco it's affordable and really good. We also have some eggs with kimchi and bought some sauerkraut to do the same. I listen to fasting videos while I'm fasting and that helps a lot with endurance and reminds me of all the wonderful things my body is doing. I'm not perfect at it I just know what has been working for me through trial and error. I love what Dr Mindy said in a video.."Never feel bad for how long you were able to fast" ❤️ Thank you Dr Mindy for all your years of research it's truly inspiring 💕🙏 I have lost 6lbs over the two weeks and I find staring at 6pm and then breaking it at 6am on the 36hr has been really great.

    Since watching one of Dr. Mindy's videos last year on 36 hour fasts, I've been doing a 36-hour weekly fast for about a year and am loving the results. I'm so relieved I don't have that big gut anymore (still working on a smaller gut though). I've managed to keep off over 30 pounds for the last year, something I haven't been able to do in decades. During the rest of the week I eat whatever I want when I'm not fasting. I do prefer lots of fresh fruits and vegetables with my meals but also overdo it occasionally on chocolate and pizza once a week or less and not nearly as often as I used to because over this last year my body is learning to not overdo it nearly as often. Also my labs are much improved and everything is in normal range! I love watching Dr. Mindy's videos and her enthusiasm and encouragement helps me to want to challenge myself more.
    Right now I'm struggling with trying to find something to put in my coffee (on the days I'm not fasting) besides sugar that will make it taste good but not cause my weight to slowly pick back up. I haven't found any flavored coffees I'm crazy about yet but just love the sweet taste of sugar too much I think... Any ideas out there?

    I've been struggling for almost two years to drop weight with fasting and keto. Also, struggling to get past 24 hrs fasting. I decided I was going to do it this time. I started fasting at 7:00 Thursday night. Struggled through dinner time Friday. When I went to bed I had a chill but thought I was just cold like everybody else because the temperature had dropped significantly during the day. However when I woke up shivering in the middle of the night I thought I might have a fever. When I took my temperature it read 94.4! I immediately broke my fast with warm bone broth. I'm so disappointed and frustrated. I don't know what to do or where to look now.

That means I will experience 8 months of watery stool. Literally pooping water 8-10 times a day and the VA is like, "Oh it's okay." I don't eat anything that is not a whole food, no bread, no processed foods, no sugar, natural carbs from fruit and veggies . I am so over being sick!!!! I wish a fast would fix me! There was a man I knew who did work on our house. He went on to lose 100 pounds. Each day, he’d pack all food he planned to consume-all meals and snacks for each day being placed in a large brown paper grocery bag. He was half-way through, the 100-pound weight loss-and he hit a serious plateau, even though his food was perfectly measured and controlled. His brother was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer, and he left to go spend three days with his brother who lived in his home town, Chicago. He was distraught, depressed, and truly frightened for his brother. They ate at all their favorite restaurants, such as deep-dish pizza, and he enjoyed his favorite burgers, though he knew this would set his weight loss endeavors back. To his surprise], he returned home, and though he’d gained a few pounds, he returned to his disciplined eating routine at once. The weight started to come off at a good pace. So, his rule for the last 50 pounds was that for every 10 pounds lost, he’d have a big weekend of eating. Some do Sunday’s off-plan to keep the metabolism stoked. This is all just food for thought.
