I enjoyed that video. Well done and keep up the good work. It was very interesting to see the natural habitat of the Green Spotted Puffer. As far as I have seen, you are the only You Tuber who keeps this species of puffer and documents where they come from. Those puffers y'all were catching were huge. I have never seen any that big.
    Great content and best wishes.

Thank you so much! We're very lucky they're native to us. They sure are. Adult GSPs tend to swim solo while the juvenile ones swim near each other. Too bad it was raining, we weren't able to film the babies. 🐡

I had two of these GSP's back in the late 90's and they were sold to me in brackish water. I later traded them in as at that time they were too much up-keep for me. Recently i lost a large Black Ghost fish, so i wanted to buy new fish, and i was so happy to see that the store finally had the GSP's in fresh water now. ( I asked them, did these need to be changed to Brackish and he said NO) ! ( I took his word and said, that if they could not stay in fresh water that i did not want them) even as cute as they were. I went home and did research on them and was i surprised ! It is such a SHAME the stores these days just want to sell fish and not care about their well-being 😭

based on my book of kuching river fishes, the mystery goby might be Acentrogobius viridipunctatus.
I found that most of the estuaries in borneo share the same species, like the lagocephalus and GSP, but I though buntal pisang was the really yellow one, Xenopterus Naritus, which look like oversized avocado puffers.
still, loved this video and the vibes, I've been wanting to go to the estuary to catch fishes but never got around to doing it, maybe someday I'll persuade my friends to join me as well.

    • @BeFishy
      @BeFishy  Год назад +1

Interesting! Thank you so much for sharing. You are right! Xenopterus naritus is buntal pisang. I'm not sure if it's a common name for all these species but after a little digging, the ones that the locals eat are indeed the Xenopterus naritus aka buntal pisang.
Hope you get to go on an adventure with your friends too. Thank you for watching! 🐡

Those Chelonodons are Takifugu oblongus! Chelonodon patoca and Takifugu oblongus are often confused because both species look quite similar, but the picture u showed in your video is definitely Takifugu oblongus. The real Chelonodon patoca is a bit darker in colour and has a more squarelike bodyshape. In addition, the belly is more yellow. Anyways... it was a very good and informative video about the brackish puffers in their natural habitat. 👌🏻👍🏻

That was an awesome video! And that green spotted puffer jumping in the bag reminded me of Gilbert my Topaz puffer haha.
As another comment mentioned it does look a lot like an acentrogobius viridipunctatus goby.

I’m newbie for green spotted puffer. Bought 2 last weeks. Bt they told me was freshwater. They didn’t make it to survive. Then I make a little research. They need brackish water. Last two day i bought another 2 new. Set up new water tank. One appetite is good. Another one totally don’t want eat for 2 days already. I have no idea what’s wrong and I’m worry. As your experience they need marine salt or aquarium salt? As I go bck to the seller for more info. They actually duno how to take care of it. Jus sell without teaching us to take care. There’s alot in tank die already they don’t even bother. I hope u can help me for my poor puffer. I don’t wish to failed them again.

Feed them live foods. Brine shrimp, black worms, ghost shrimp. No flake or pellets. They are not fresh water fish. They can live in brackish water. I have had better luck in full marine. When you mix your saltwater use marine salt.

For sick puffers not eating.. Or eating and getting skinny.. I use Expel-P from Fritz Aquatics. If it is the right medication, you will know in usually one day.
With several of mine, so far.
      Good luck with puffers!
Apparently, these puffers are living in about 60 to 80 percent ocean water, depending on the flooding and the tides.
      What a great video!
