I too, was a child that my folks got a pony for me when none of us knew anything about horse care. I fell off multiple times and by listening to people who knew how to ride and how to care for a horse, I'd pick up hints, some good some bad. But if you don't know, you don't know. I kept learning each and every year for over 50 years until my body could no longer climb in the saddle. I love watching Shae with her techniques. Obviously I'm still learning even though I will never ride a horse again.

Same here, originally self taught other then being shown how to properly saddle up and put a bridle on, hoof pick and brush the horse. I learnt to ride by going out riding trails with a 11 year old friend who's parents had Shetlands (I was 12 at the time). Shetlands who were very pushy and loved to pigroot and would rear up (so I learnt to stay on well), one was an old show pony so it had a tricks it would do. We were little kids but we'd ride every weekend, often along the public dirt roads too. We got to know elderly ladies along the routes we would ride who would bring us out milk and cookies and carrots or apples for the ponies :) .
I didn't have a pony of my own till a couple of years later when I turned 14 (a beautiful Welsh Mountain pony who was a great jumper, he put complete faith in me and we'd jump things which were at his eye height) and then started attending a pony club (finally some dressage lessons) till I outgrew him and had to get a horse, who was 2 when I got him and untrained, he was trained to ride at 3. (Sadly he had to be put down at 5 due to cancer after vets misdiagnosed).

Looking nice! The young man is doing very well.
Just a good advice from a long time European english style rider:
If you want to get the stirrups a little longer, it will be easier to keep the heels down and the leg steady. Also makes it easier to light trott and to sit deep.
We used to cross the stirrups over the saddle and light trott then.
One does get a good feel for the horse, then.
We only had the stirrups that high for jumping.
The right lenght is the distance between wrist and shoulder of the rider's arm.
    Moshu is a wonderful horse!

I miss my “Elite Green Squad” 😢 I started riding at 7. I didn’t even get on a horse for the 1st 3 months. I had to study and learn the movements of the gaits. I had to learn about tack and the different bridles, bits, saddles. She had me grooming and mucking stalls every day. I was so bummed I just wanted to ride. Everyone was different. When she felt you were ready you got to start riding and we learned bareback 1st. I miss her SO much. when I turned 15 I was “promoted” we had a team of 5 girls who would be assigned to the green horses coming in as possible lesson horses but wasn’t ready for all level of riders, we would ride them and switch it up so they got used to different people riding them. Some became lesson horses and some were sold. I LOOOOOVED the green horses. You had to be ON YOUR SH*T!! There was no room for error. I definitely was the best of the best at falling 😂 I even won an award for it 🤣🤣🤣

He’ll definitely make somebody a great companion riding horse when his time comes. I like how you really ensure they’re ready to move on, before you ever consider a forever home! You take pride in your horsemanship and that’s evident in how you treat them … and others!
I’m sure you’ll have another project before you ever ‘back’ either Ariel or Ezzy … and I’m not counting Lumiere. Especially seeing you’re already searching for a forever home for Arlo … and I think Gaston will follow shortly thereafter, if you haven’t already mentioned it!
It’s a great outdoor arena … good footing and lots of room. It seems to be pretty quiet, even though it’s not all that secluded.
Looking forward to the next VLOG … and are the stalls getting done soon or has that been slightly delayed, given the expenses you’ve incurred as of late?
    Have a blessed weekend! 🙏🙌❤️🇨🇦🍎🐴🥕🐎🍏

And, Mushi has his foundation skills nailed, so this was I think pretty easy for him and he knows Piper which is a plus. She posts very well by the way! He is a great little-big guy. Looking forward to seeing him on new adventures/ trail rides etc. I know the horse's feel the pleasure and fun along with thier rider's and then look forward to being saddled up and made ready to go for that. Lastly, my hubby who loves to do projects and restoration work has often said, it is the additional last 10 % effort-work put in that makes the difference between good and excellence. Piper needs to watch her foot placement in the stirrup. 25:10 you can see how far in her foot is. This is why her toes kept going down and her heels were up. Other than that, she and Mushu did a great job!

Some people just can't see the bigger picture. Mushu is one lucky horse!

It was lovely to watch Piper and Mushu work out the lunging and riding time together. They were at a very comfortable, relaxed stage. Each giving the other a steady, easy confidence in a very safe environment. Also, Shae’s calm, kind, encouraging attentiveness and instructions gave those riding participants a solid, content, happy togetherness. Some bonding and being as one in this gentle riding experience. I was in this class experience too! Vicariously, yes, but equally inspired by everyone involved, in this moment in time! 🥰❤️🤗❤️🐴❤️🤝❤

Great job Piper and Mushu! This is why I enjoy watching you, you take the time and don’t rush things when starting a new horse like Mushu who was untrained. This video shows how much you trust him by letting Piper ride him already! Bravo 👏 Plus Piper is a great rider, and to get on a green horse can be a little nerve racking, because he’s young still, things can happen quickly and you have to be prepared for that. When you said you’ve had him for 2 years, I’m like whoa! How time flys by, I remember when he came to you sight unseen ❤

This was such an interesting, enjoyable video and I learned so much! Piper may only be 15 years old, but she appears to have a great future ahead of her as an equestrian and we can tell that she really enjoys her riding experiences. Great job, Shae, Piper, and Mushu! 💕😊🐴🏇👍💖

Shae I bet the horses throw mud balls at each other when you aren't looking. My son and daughter use to have horse ball fights in the pasture with their cousins. Thank God they didn't have cow paddy fights as their cousins did have a milk cow in the pasture with their horse. 😊

I wonder if Piper's toes being uncharacteristically down in the stirrups is due her legs being hitched up because of Mushu's shape. I'm very tall at 5'11 and have ridden shorter horses, and it always felt kind of awkward for me to keep my feet in the correct position whilst posting. It's as if, because my long legs were bent up so much, when I rose up it became harder to keep good balance and core as opposed to riding a taller horse where there wasn't as much motion involved in my rise. I hope that makes sense!

What a treat this video is!!! I have been wishing you would show more of your training methods, Mushu is a great example of them. It's funny but I live on the west coast, I am a western rider, and am old enough to be your grandmother, I am not a trainer by any means but I have trained colts from babies along with lots of green horses in my lifetime with basically the same methods as you. RUclips makes a small world! She was reading Mushu nicely and he was listening to her. Good job! Thank you for being such a good mentor to your students, but also think how much better many horse's lives will be because you trained you students so well.🥰

Ok the lesson/session is over. Nice job Mushu and Piper (lovely young lady).
I swear I could feel Mushu thinking about everything. Who is this person grooming me and tacking me up? Mama Shae why are you holding the lunge lune and somebody is on my back? She feels different, her body isn't like your body. I'm ok though.😊😊😊❤❤❤
It was very interesting to watch and learn how to safely and gently introduce Mushu to taking commands from someone other than you. As a non equestrian, and feeling very stupid at the moment, I never thought about a horse possibly reacting poorly the first time someone different is riding them, especially if the horse is still young and green.
Wonderful lesson and education for me today!!
Thank you Shae, Piper and Mushu!! ❤❤❤❤❤
