    It was genuinely such a treat to see all of your beautiful horses ridden! I have to say though I actually gasped out loud seeing how much Prince Charming has improved even just since the latest update video. It is INCREDIBLE. What a testament to your care and devotion! Bagheera, too, was just stunning. It is so clear that she just *loves* her job. And of course to me Jiminey hung the moon.

    So fun watching all the horses and their different personalities. Jiminey's a great all around horse. Olaf jumps really good. Prince Charming is doing so much better, it's so great to see. Him and Mushu remind me of large dogs. They love to interact with you. Can see why you called him Prince Charming. The recall with Mushu is great. I thought having an 100lb dog barreling at you for a recall was something but horses are a whole new level. For people criticizing about Bagheera, training a horse at that age is important. Just because they're older doesn't mean they don't need stimulation or that they don't need to learn anything new. It's so important for their mental and emotional health along with keeping them physically fit.

    • @freespiritequestrian
      @freespiritequestrian  Год назад +4

      Yes, so true with what you’re stating regarding Bagheera! People don’t understand. All of the horses have their strengths and weaknesses and it’s so fun being able to own and work with a variety ❤️

    I really enjoyed watching you with all your horses. It’s nice to see their differences but the one thing they do have in common; you can tell they are loved and well taken care of. I know it’s frustrating to see derogatory/snarky comments because everyone is an “online expert”. It’s the downside of sharing videos but the flip side is seeing how thoughtful care is put into each of your horses and how they are progressing. You can truly see how well adjusted, calm and how they interact with you and your students. You’re truly a blessing and thank you again for sharing 🌻

    I'm smiling again as my guess this time about Bagherra is part Morgan! So we're two for two now! Fun we've shared and like the same so far.
    Must say you've done a great job with your horse family.. What I see especially hearing their diverse back stories is how balanced they've become since you started working with them. Especially noticeable is new Prince Charming our Plaudit fav. Very noticeable now how rehab is really kicking in.

I don't know if you noticed, and not at all trying to tell you how to do your job or be an internet trainer but it looks like Bagheera's left hind stifle might be off. When you come to the downwards transition is when I noticed it. That might be something worth looking into. I am sure you have a great team of vets :)

But ever since I stopped jumping him he got super lazy and is bored i don’t know if I should start maybe adding some pole work and some small jumps/cross rails to our rides here and there?

    What is Jiminey's backstory? I know you've had him most of his life. How old was he when you got him? Was he already trained? How did you come to acquire him? Had you owned an Appaloosa before? Just curious as we know how you acquired the newer ones.
    He really seems like he's been a super all-around horse for you. Amazing that you've done some eventing. I was really impressed with his jumping, and yes his canter looks very smooth to ride. Loved watching you ride all of them and watching Mushu run around as well. He'd probably like playing with a jolly ball.

      He was only 7 when I bought him and only knew the basics (walk, trot, canter). He was my first horse. I trained him to do all of disciplines we have done, so it’s been an amazing partnership!

    Does gated refer to the way they were trained or their breeding? I had a friend growing up that showed Tennessee Walkers. I understand that walk is a gate. But I'm still confused.

    • @Groundedsquirrel
      @Groundedsquirrel Год назад +2

      I think gaited means they have the extra gait which is like the trot only instead of the legs which are diagonal from each other moving in unison, the legs on each side move together. Watch closely and you may be able to see it when she is riding the first horse, Arlo. There may be other gaits as well? I have also been wondering about whether being gaited relates to training, breeding or both. She mentions his shoulders being different which is fascinating.

    • @freespiritequestrian
      @freespiritequestrian  Год назад +4

      Gaited horses have different gaits then a trotting horse. Most horses have 4 gaits and Arlo has 5, but all of his gaits are different than the average trotting horse because he has a different build. There are also many breeds of gaited horses as well with signature gaits. I definitely recommend researching if you’re interested in knowing more about gaited horses.

      @@Groundedsquirrel in addition to what Shae commented, I just wanted to add that horses that are "gaited" are born with the ability to gait. It's in their DNA. Some newborn foals will actually perform these gaits as they run after their mothers in the pasture. They can receive training sometimes to improve them and to learn to go into them when the rider asks for it. Arlo is a bit unusual in that his extra gait is a pace which is when both legs on either side move forward together as you mentioned. The only other breed that I'm aware of that paces are certain bloodlines of Standardbred horses that are known to carry a gene that produces the pacing gait. Some Standardbred horses can only trot, which is why Standardbred racing in America has separate races for the trotters and the pacers, which is actually a faster gait than trotting.
      Most other gaited horses move their legs diagonally but the timing of the steps from front to back is different which creates the smooth riding gaits. Other gaited breeds include the Paso Fino, Peruvian Paso, Rocky Mountain Horse, Missouri Fox Trotter, Tennessee Walking Horse, Racking Horses, some American Saddlebreds and more.
