Teena has a catalog of music that blows every current singer out there out of the water! Mad love for her! She wrote, produced, arranged, and was a multi instrumentalist and killer singer all in one! To me, she stands on the same level of talent as Prince.
Teena wrote, arranged and produced this masterpiece! It’s one of my favorites by her. FYI- besides, singing, writing and producing, Teena could play piano, guitar and percussion. She was one extraordinarily talented lady.
This came out in 1984. It became an instant Soul Classic hit especially on the Quiet Storm. Teena was a true artist that is missing today; writing, producing, composing, playing instruments, vocal talent, and most of all refused to sell out to pop garbage music.
She is still the one and only orignal WHITE CHOCOLATE SOUL SISTER She is a band chick she plays other instruments she is just like RICK JAMES THIS GENERATION doesnt have a female artist on teena marie level
I love how most of her most popular songs are over the 5 minute mark and she always gave a masterful vocal performance for every one all the way through
Jack... you did her justice with this reaction. When you "run it back" you're acknowledging her deft technical prowess, her soulful spirit... i subscribed to you specifically because of your review of "Fire and Desire". That laugh you gave was amaxingly funny. The shock on your face was everything.
Teena Marie has so many songs that will take you out! You need to hear her whole catalog. There is no one else like her. Dear Mr. Gaye, Fire and Desire (with Rick James) Casanova Brown, Ooh LA LA La...etc. She was the best at it! I highly recommend man.
I was a girl when this song came out. But being an old soul and music lover, it hit me in the feels even back then. When I became a woman, this has always been my favorite song of hers...the emotion is relatable and almost brings me to tears sometimes when I'm listening to it.
#1 Teena Marie Jam. I went to the performing arts school and this came out then we sing it all the time and yes she plays bass. She plays in the video Lover Girl❤
THE James Jamerson and THE Nathan East pla bass on this album. Good gawd!!! The rest of the personnel on this album was legendary 👏🏽👏🏽. And yes she could play bass too. Rest in peace Lady T
Teena was a superb talent! I was a fan from the very first time I heard that unique voice back in the 80's. Her voice was what I would describe as athletic...she literally did vocal calisthenics with apparent ease. That's just the only way I can describe it! She made you feel her emotions and depth as though she was speaking directly to you. Talent like that is so rare and so precious! RIP Teena Marie! Gone too soon...we miss you! And Jack, if you haven't heard Teena's duet with Gerald Levert, "A Rose By Any Other Name", it really is another beautiful song I think you would enjoy
I teared up when I first heard this song in 84 and I still tear up when I hear it now because I feel that she gave us a part of her inner self with this song. She sang it with such passion and feeling that it made me blush when I first heard it. I've never felt that way from any other artist on any other song. Of course, one of my all time favorites
I love your reaction omg. This is my favorite song by her very hard to sang so I’m on RUclips watching others sing and react to it is what bought me here
One of THE singers. She soars. I first heard her in the late 70’s and I was blown away and I’ve stayed that way ever since. She’s way up there with Patti Labelle and Stephanie Mills. You’ve got great taste in music man. Have you reacted to When The World Turns Blue by Merry Clayton yet? Or Hot Summer Love by Angela Winbush? Or Stay With Me Baby by Shirley Brown? Or Your Song by Cissy Houston? Or Baby Come To Me by Regina Belle? Or Feel The Fire by Teddy Pendergrass and Stephanie Mills? I might have missed them if you have but if not you should check them out. I stupidly thought among young people love of this music had died out (I’m 70) but I love that young people still soak this magic up like we did in the 70’s and 80’s. Great reactions. Keep em coming.
OMG Jack, I requested this song when you reached to Fire and Desire duet with Tina and Rick. I saw the two of them in concert in South Carolina. I have that album on wax and there are several hits on it. When you feel like enjoying this voice again listen to Dear-Lover. Thanks, Jack.
just found your channel tonight. great reaction. Teena was on all my slow jam cassettes back in the day. noy into mystic stuff but her song, "Deja Vu", is masterful. you GOTS to check that one out!!!
I can remember me and my friends would get together to play albums just like this and would think we were singing 😂 but in all seriousness Teena was nothing but the truth ❤ Rest easy
Been a fan since her first album! Many great songs, but first SOLO, "Behind the Groove". It was albums back in the day. Her sleeve had a quote from her.."Perish me not, O Lord, for I am not worthy to permeate the gates of Heaven"! Chills..when she passed, I cried like a baby! No artist like her, never will be one comparable. She was a very singularly unique talent! I pray she is resting in heaven, even as I write this! ❤😢
This song reminds me of comments you made about Lenny Williams' song. The song arrangements were amazing. They didn't seem to follow a canned formula. I love this song but then again I love most of Teena's catalog.
Lady T has nothing but bangers and beautiful balads. This is one of my all-time favorite songs from my all-time favorite singer.❤ Teena Marie does not have one bad song on any of her CDs… point blank periot! The baddest there was. I hope you’ve been resting peacefully beautiful lady ❤🙏
I have every song she’s sung and know all of them by Heart. I’ve seen her in concert a couple of times.. she had the nerve to open for the Isley brothers. She tore the place up so bad at constitution hall in DC that when The Isley brothers came on. People started leave. We stayed until the whole show and we had no problem getting out of the parking lot or anything that’s how many people left the show because you cannot come on after Tina Marie I don’t know why they did it like that, but they messed up because she tore the place down there is nowhere else to go mentally from her performance but down hill
Hey Jack! If you enjoyed the instrumentation and her melodic voice this, please react to Teena Marie's "Deja Vu (I've been here before)". You will love it!!!! Thank you!
I grew up on Lady T as my mom would play all of her music cleaning up the entire house on those Saturdays. This is by far her best song, ever!! If I were a bell, Casanova Brown, We’ve got to stop meeting up (like this), Ooh La La and My Darling Mr. Gaye are not far behind with her amazing vocals
Bro!! You are ahead of your time… Teena is everything! If you haven’t already, check out “We’ve Got to Stop (Meeting Like This) from that same album, and my personal fav of hers, “Aladdin’s Lamp”.
If you haven't already, please react to her "Work It"😊Good stuff! Shadow Boxer, Shangri-la, Aladdin's Lamp, oh my! and Yes, Indeed! I was always a big fan of the less commercially successful pieces! Mr Gaye! Dude, too many to name! Look em up! Promise! You WILL NOT be disappointed!!!!❤❤❤❤
This is most definitely her piece de resistance. I still remember when it came out. I listened to it over and over and over again. I hope you're doing the same right now.
Teena has a catalog of music that blows every current singer out there out of the water! Mad love for her! She wrote, produced, arranged, and was a multi instrumentalist and killer singer all in one! To me, she stands on the same level of talent as Prince.
Well said!!!❤
She was taught by one of baddest MF’ers of all time in Rick James, b*tch 🤣😂😂!!
When she was eight years old, she had an acting role on "The Beverly Hillbillies"!
Fact!!!
She was the black vanilla queen always with us until she died miss her!!!!!!!
Teena wrote, arranged and produced this masterpiece! It’s one of my favorites by her. FYI- besides, singing, writing and producing, Teena could play piano, guitar and percussion. She was one extraordinarily talented lady.

She is still the one and only orignal WHITE CHOCOLATE SOUL SISTER
She is a band chick she plays other instruments she is just like RICK JAMES
THIS GENERATION doesnt have a female artist on teena marie level
She is us, she just look like her mama. Like Mariah lol
The vulnerability of the lyrics along w her delivery - sounds like she crying the lyrics! It touches me deep. Makes me emotional. Great reaction! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
"No calls, this is Teena Marie!"...I know that's right. 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿😄
One of the best vocal performances of the past 50 years, PERIOD!
One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard! 🔥🔥🔥 RIP Teena 🙏🏽🕊
7:29 reaction was EVERYTHING 🔥🔥🔥🔥 This is my favorite song by her! Teena Marie was and still is A LEGEND🔥❤️
It's not talked about much but she
like Prince she writes and arranges
Her own songs. She plays 20 instruments. OMG bro
All songs, written, and produced by Teena Marie
I love how most of her most popular songs are over the 5 minute mark and she always gave a masterful vocal performance for every one all the way through
Teena Marie is probably one of the 5 greatest female vocalist of all time. Aretha, Minnie Riperton, Teena are my top 3.
She's my favorite female singer
Minnie didn't have a pretty voice in my opinion...
Uh...I definitely think that Whitney should be at the top of that list! Also, MC should be on this list as well!
Whitney????
Whitney Houston!!!!!!!!!!! period done deal!!
Jack... you did her justice with this reaction. When you "run it back" you're acknowledging her deft technical prowess, her soulful spirit... i subscribed to you specifically because of your review of "Fire and Desire". That laugh you gave was amaxingly funny. The shock on your face was everything.
👏🏼👏🏼💕🎙️🎶🎛️💣💥🔥🔥🔥 I can listen to This All Day Long!! Rest in Peace🕊️ Teena Marie🌺💗🙏

Teena Marie has so many songs that will take you out! You need to hear her whole catalog. There is no one else like her. Dear Mr. Gaye, Fire and Desire (with Rick James)
Casanova Brown, Ooh LA LA La...etc. She was the best at it! I highly recommend man.
Very underrated song from her 1984 starchild album
The song was written and produced by Teena Marie herself
I was a girl when this song came out. But being an old soul and music lover, it hit me in the feels even back then. When I became a woman, this has always been my favorite song of hers...the emotion is relatable and almost brings me to tears sometimes when I'm listening to it.

On that same album is the song "My Dear Mr. Gaye". It's her tribute to Marvin Gaye. It's soooooooooooooooooooo dope.
