IL2 does have a history of having some of the finest flight simulators. I remember playing IL2 Forgotten Battles and IL2 1946 back when I was very young
Exactly, and now THEY, the realistic simulator creators have become the creators of IL-2 Battle of Moscow, Stalingrad, etc..., NOT these impostors who only modified the original IL-2 into this crap (can't call it otherwise in terms of simulation), done a lot of commercial, attracted a lot of newcomers to aviation knowledge and made a fortune. I'm not sad that they made a fortune, I'm sad that they call this... SIMULATOR. It doesn't simulate ANYTHING correctly, not even actual distances, lol...! If you want to see how actually an aircraft behaves in the air at whatever angle of attack, try either of 777 Studios genres (IL-2 BoX or Rise of Flight), X-Plane 11 (done by true aerospace engineers) and DCS (not all, but about 50% of the modules simulate the aerodynamics correctly).
My grandpa bought me the latter one, I remember playing IL2 1946 on an (now old) laptop from 2002-3 playing on low settings (not a gaming laptop lol those didn't really exist) and without a joystick. Still had a lot of fun even though I never really knew what I was doing.

A-10C I and II from ED (sharing the same abnormal roll control authority under stall conditions just like the A-10A in FC3, same flight model copy-pasted) #10. Su-25T from ED (similar to A-10s over stall AoA abnormal roll control authority) #11. L-39 from ED (similar to A-10s / Su-25s over stall AoA abnormal roll control authority) #12. Mirage F-1 (although new, basic aerodynamic effects should've been correctly simulated before release) #13. C-101 (both variants have utterly unrealistic FM) #14. All Belsimtek fighter planes (F-5, F-86, MIG-15). Not too bad FMs, but still with some corrections and wrong effects which need attention are just left to die. The most exceptional FMs are those for the JF-17 and AJS-37 (for the jetfighters category), followed by the F-16 (some corrections needed at high AoA and beta for lift differential between the wings, but that's not very important unless you wanna try some tailside aerobatics and see that instead of a right roll you get a left roll or vice-versa) and finally the AV-8 which except some high AoA + beta (sideslip angle) glitches above some 400km/h (220kts) which make the plane have some very erratic movement, also has a very well done FM. CFS3, Microsoft FS, and X-Plane had/have this feature. More people look at the info box for airspeed and altitude than at their instruments. The IL-2 series, 1946, Cliffs of Dover and Stalingrad (now known as Great Battles) is probably the best Combat flight sim series Ever. I really hope that the latter 2 can have a long life span. The one thing I wish is that after Normandy they can go back to the Eastern front and add a few Russian bombers like the IL-4, Tu-2S, etc.

I still haven't taken the plunge & bought IL-2 BoS. I read up on it just recently where modders have tweaked the damage model to where the wing doesn't get blown off so easily. The wing rarely came off in real life from gunfire. Hopefully this will be incorporated soon on the version Steam offers. Then I'll just wait for a sale price to come along. In the mean time, in bought Steam's IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 latest version for $9.99, replacing my old disc version. It's been modded somewhat too over the years. It's engine is based on Rise of Flight. Now 64 bit version. Sadly a resource hog if you want to play it on ultra graphics. But amazing sim yes. Worth the money if you have joystick, rudder pedals and track IR / VR
Has IL-2 gotten a massive UI facelift recently, or is this a sequel of the game with the same name? The menus and whatnot of my copy of the game looks nothing like this :/ .
Sequel is a big word, but something like that. It's just the old sim, I mean "IL-2 Sturmovik / Forgotten Battles / 1946" has much more to offer: thousands of campaigns to download, theatres of war, nationalities to fly for. Here we have limited set of maps, limited set of planes: take it or beat it. Obviously, in IL-2 BoX you get modern game engine and way more advanced graphics, plane models and so on. But I still do have on my HD IL-2 1946. I just love to fly something like a Gloster Gladiator and defend Finnland.
School is great to be a good employee, good citizen that pays taxes and agree with politicians, and to feel as part of a society. Higher education is good if you want to learn a bit more, find a good job (maybe), have a paper that certifies you spent some years studding a specific matter and spent a lot of money doing it. It depends on what you want to do, even scientist today say things that are not entirely true, together with many that are true, but because the credit they have, and the lack of knowledge of normal people like us, we accept everything they say as true.
My opinion DCS is more realistic overall with the engine management but IL-2 is focused on WW2 as a complete experience, i also consider DCS superior in sound as i have heard youtube videos of actual warbirds doing flyby and DCS sounds identical vs IL-2 sounds completely different than that.
There is no war in DCS, no fronline action, nothing to simulate a real WW2 campaign. Just several amazingly expensive (nicely modelled though) aircraft. Like a museum.
Nice review, however you missed and should try, (4 me), the best sim... IL2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz, the most complete and soon with the 5.0 patch. Just try it and you'll see what I mean for realism...!
I have been playing War Thunder for almost a couple of years now and yes its free to download but it is not free it costs to go thru the upgrades of each vehicle. I also want to give IL2 a try because I enjoy the challenge. I think anyone that has PC or plays online games realize that each game has its pros cons and costs depending on how many vehicles what level the players are willing to go. Some people may see a video of either game and say I want that plane or Jet and have to realize the hours money skill invested to get to that level. Only one way to decide if the game is to your liking. Good luck
Very nice review. Good explanation of the basics and defiantly telling people to have patience. I have watch this game for time since it first came out and do agree the statement of being a pricey game. To get more out of the game, you have to dig into your pocket. Something than many may not want to. I can remember digging into the pocket for the game Flight Rising. Excellent WWI flight sim, but to get hold it all back then, dig deep into your pocket book. Very well done review, thank you.

I had the CD version but windows 10 won't play it, how can I get IL-2 to run on windows 10
Another really good one is IL-2 Cliffs of Dover Desert Wings - Tobruk
What about Wings Over Reich? I think it has the best single player experience ever... comparable only to Falcon BMS dynamic campaign.
6:55 did you just fire a rocket at an air target?
This looks pretty cool
could you recommend modern flight combat game...little less realistic than dsc... i mean i have a dayjob and stuff to do..no time to learn how to pilot a fighter jet :D nice video :)
Lovely. Thank you.
how do you get this to run on windows 10?
it does pretty well.
@@Jagdflieger03 mine wont even let me install it.
Este sería un buen momento para comprar un buen juego, si tan solo no se me hubiera freído la tarjeta gráfica... very nice video btw
que honda con joy hablando ingles facherito
Can you play this game on a Apple TV device?
thanks for the video !
is it possible to play IL-2 with keyboard and mouse ?
It is, but not with great success. Most of the "normal" difficulty servers allow "joymouse" control, alongside with all offline activities.
hi does this game have a decent player base with regards to online sim battles? im thinking of buying it but want to confirm beforehand thanks
There are 3-4 really populated hardcore online project servers (up to full 84 players in prime-time) and much more casual-style servers. The community is nice and helpful. Hop in! I could give you some intro advise
can you use both vr and hotas together?
Yes
Nice vid bro
I have IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 I bought from steam. I cannot get the controller to work with take off. I end up having my plane roll to one side and crash
How can we escape in the damage plane
You eject, its in the controls.
Great if you can get it to work. I have problems every time they update. This time it wont recognise my joystick. I give up.
you need to plug in the joistick before you play
ive never has this problem myself, and u have to connect the joystick before starting the game (or it will not be seen in game)
@@MrNonaste I dont think you understand what Im saying. If you launch the game before you have your joystick connected the game will not recognise the joystick.
@@bratech5831 Got it. Thanks.
Was this for Xbox 360
It's engine is based on Rise of Flight. Now 64 bit version. Sadly a resource hog if you want to play it on ultra graphics. But amazing sim yes.
Worth the money if you have joystick, rudder pedals and track IR / VR
Did they remake this game or something? I remember playing it like... 15 years ago.
Is the same but much more improved
❤is it available on mobile?
Will this run on Windows 10?
I play this in VR. It's awesome. Requires are pretty powerful PC in Vr.
Little problem did you ever play War thunder in simulator battle mod?
Is this a modded game now. Will it run on modern pc’s. have they updated the game over the years?
It is a very modern game, they make updates about every 2 months. Last one was 3 weeks ago.
The flight model is absolutely the best. It’s has the visual “feel”. This is based off of my limited flight time on tail dragger airplanes.
What are the things in War Thunder Simulation mode that aren't realistic? I haven't really the experience with WT or DCS to tell
War thunder is free so you can check it out and tell the difference.
I personally prefer playing on the easier mode, but I am amazed when I see people playing on expert.
On expert mode is better to have the trackir system or VR, and a good 4K monitor to see the planes far off.
@@Joyplanes I don't have track IR but O use aruco tracker and works just fine. It makes playing even on smimple mode much more enjoyable.
@@xenon5 That's great!
Now I know what seems odd to me: The sound does not seem to be right! The motors of those planes should be louder and more pronounced.
i like your review
haha, great review, What do you mean to not believe what they tell you in school? You mean in regards to history or technology?
School is great to be a good employee, good citizen that pays taxes and agree with politicians, and to feel as part of a society. Higher education is good if you want to learn a bit more, find a good job (maybe), have a paper that certifies you spent some years studding a specific matter and spent a lot of money doing it. It depends on what you want to do, even scientist today say things that are not entirely true, together with many that are true, but because the credit they have, and the lack of knowledge of normal people like us, we accept everything they say as true.
@@Joyplanes I start to like you even more. Glad to find a like minded person.
I wish the devs put more effort in this like il2 1946, I wish there was bombers and better options for sandbox and creating missions
so its like war thunder or the same
Hi! Is there a good game like this or Combat Flight Simulator on Android? Soon?
Nice review, however you missed and should try, (4 me), the best sim... IL2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz, the most complete and soon with the 5.0 patch. Just try it and you'll see what I mean for realism...!
Agree, but that game does not have vr support yet. So I must wait til it will be implemented.
Blitz has Super Mario cloud system tho...
Do I have to pay extra to fly an IL-2?
No, it's included
So you use a joystick and keyboard together????
of course, since you don't have 50 buttons on your stick.
Buen video.
I JUST MADE AN IR TRACKING SYSTEM FROM USING ONE OF THOSE CLIP ON BATTERY LED BIKE LIGHTS, I JUST REMOVED THE LEDS AND EXTENDED THE WIRES THEN REPLACED THE LEDS WITH IR LEDS, CAMERAS JUST AN OLD LAPTOP INTERNAL CAMERA I REMOVED AND WIRED TO USB. SORRY 4 SHOUTING LOL MY CAP[S IS STUCK : ( P.S DONT FORGEET TO LOOK AT THE PDF WWII FLIGHT MANUALS IN THE GAME FOLDERS.
Yes but when you play realistic in war thunder all the properties of the other games happen as if you turn to hard your wings can come off and engines can cut out and you only have a certain amount of fuel and ammo
Or even if you play sim mode, then it is almost like IL-2 in many ways, besides the damage model and physics.
@@Hosanna77777 ...and DM, armament and flight physics change the experience drastically. WT is no way a simulator.
@@Jagdflieger03 @Alexey Ivanov... In no way a simulator ay? Well, what is a simulator? I agree that IL-2 is a much better simulation, but you can't say that War Thunder isn't a simulator at all. War Thunder has accurate vehicle models, decent flight physics, good maps, and good gameplay in my opinion. In fact, to the untrained eye, WT and IL-2 are almost identical in their simulation modes.
