Maybe they were avoiding a fight since, being in E-model 109s, which are true to the Battle of Britain time period, they were outclassed by the late model Spitfire (IX's?), which came much later than the Battle of Britain.

Thanks for posting, just a historical note, during the Battle of Britain (1940) RAF was using Spitfire Mk I's (armed with 8x .303 guns) not the Mk IX's (twin radiators, 2 x 20mm Hispano Suiza cannons and 2 x .50 cal guns) as shown.
With one notable exception: 19 Squadron had two 20 mm guns (Mk IB) during August of 1940. The results were so abysmal, by September, 8 gun Mk Is had replaced them.
I mean the BoB officially finished on the 31st of October 1940 and the Spitfire Mk Vb first saw service with the RAF in early Jan 1941, given the Spit V, limited to the first Merlin engine, isn't a giant step up from the IIb I'd say it could still feature in a late BoB situation on the new Normandy map.
While the BF 109s are, correctly, Emils, the Spitfires are a much later mark than those used in the battle of Britain: I weould guess Mk IXs, also, they are armed with 2x 20mm cannons. Battle of Britain Spitfires had 8x .303 machine guns and the later "B wing" variants carried 2x 20mm cannons and 4x .303 machine guns.

A few (30) Spitfire IIc fighters with cannon were in service at the time of the Battle of Britain. They were a player flyable fighter in IL-2 Birds of Prey. The aircraft was underpowered for the extra weight of the cannons.
There were Spits with cannon in the BoB, a few mkIICs, but they had drum feeds for the cannon which was unreliable. It was one of the reasons Douglas Bader flew a MkVa with an eight machine gun wing instead of a VB or VC with Cannon and machine guns. He didn’t trust the cannon for reliability.

Right. These are later model Spitfires, which seem to be Mk VIIIs identified typically by the pointed rudder. It was produced in large numbers mostly for the Asian theater, and like most post Battle of Britain variants, the wing contains a 20mm cannon and two 0.303 machine guns. Are those SpitIXs or XIVs? :D At least you should fly the SpitV
The Battle of Britain was well and truly over by the time the Mk9B appeared.
Why not use Cliffs of Dover sim?
The Spitfire colour scheme should have been green and brown (not grey), and the wing roundels are wrong. Otherwise good effort.
Heheh. With Mark XI Spitfires in the Battle of Britain, those BF-109Es wouldn't have stood a chance.
YOUR A BLOODY IDIOT THESE SPIT'S ARE MK9'S / NOT MK11'S , THE MK11 WAS A [ PR ] SPIT WITHOUT ANY GUNS , GET YOUR BLOODY FACT'S RIGHT.
@@robertgarrett4046 Relax, shouting, ranting, rude little boy. I fat-fingered the XI, okay? I was talking about Mark IXs but mis-queued. I know about the Mark XI Spitfire and what it did.
For a twelve-year-old, you know quite a lot about Spitfires. Good for you.
Now you just need to learn how to talk properly when you are having a conversation with adults, because, no kidding, as a conversationalist, you suck!
Judging by the tail fin I’d say spit was later than a mk9
Wouldn't Hurricanes be going after the bombers and Spitfires dueling with the 109s?
@Red Shark
That was the theory that they had planned out, but it usually ended up differently. This was due to inexperienced controllers, the Requirement of the pilots to fly in the opposite direction while they gained height before taking on the enemy and other reasons .
I didn't know they had Mk9 Spits in the Battle of Britain.
Hi probably a silly question but is this a game? If so where can I buy it! If no could you make it a game?!
This is combat flight simulator IL-2 Sturmovik
Thanks very much, found it! Can I ask what would the difference be between a combat game and a combat flight simulator? Or nothing?
@@rob9999i Flight sims are a little more complex. They have quite a few more controls that you need to remember and require joysticks. If you're looking for a simpler WW2 aircraft game, War Thunder can be used with a simple mouse and keyboard and is actually free to download. IL2 is more realistic but War Thunder is simpler and better for beginners.
Thanks very much for your reply, makes a lot of sense actually. Ideally I’d like to play the IL2 but I’ll start there as you suggest. Compared with the 1990s version of the Battle of Britain game that will seem like HD anyway! :)
Spitfire Mk IX in Battle of England?
Whère are my Spitfires MK 1?
Where are the 109’s?
You know, id love to see some full video ace duels, where you just take on single ai fighters or even players in your own fighter, i haven't played this game before, but thetr should be an ai skill setting right?
Yep, of course. At this point they are working on advancing the AI skillset a little. But if you want to see aces I can play online because I basically get blown out of the sky everytime I play online lol. Those guys are really good
@@TJ3 Alright
Spitfires were not armed with cannons during the Battle of Britain, they had 4 machine guns on each wing.
Rifle caliber at that. .303 cal.
TJ3 Gaming what is this simulator?
Has anyone mentioned the wrong version of Spitfire yet? wink
3:00 Yes. A year later this cannon - armed Spitfire would be available.
@@lelandhetrick205 Make that 4 years later, those are 1944-period Mk.IXc Spitfires
with the pointy rudders
Its ok, nobody's noticed it yet...
