Tool army here. My husband introduced me to Tool. It took me 2 years of listening to them to for it to click for me. Once it did, there was NO turning back. He has made a monster out of me!
I don't "believe" in evolution either. I accept evolution, because i understand how it works. But since we're sharing beliefs, i believe we evolved a conscience and misinterpreted that to be god (or a god). I dunno though, it's just a belief, but at least there's evidence to support it and doesn't require some absurd assumptions. Tool is gonna take you on a trip man, and you gotta be open minded here cause they're gonna expose you to some ways of thinking that might make you uncomfortable if you're not willing to at least entertain the notion that we might just be animals. That said, love your genuine and sincere reaction to hearing amazing musicians compose ridiculous music. I even clicked like cause i'm not a total asshole.
Man, I need to see you and your buddy to do one of both of you reacting to the Pneuma Fanny Carey drum cam video. Thank me later. You two should also do the O'Keefe Kids do 46 and 2, be prepared to be absolutely blown away.
When I hear someone say: "I don't believe in evolution because I believe in Jesus" I get goosebumps. It is absolutely not my intention to question the Holy Scriptures but one thing must be understood: the Bible is a set of stories put together to explain extremely profound and complex concepts and truths to an ancient people made up of illiterate shepherds who lived isolated from the world . If I want to explain to a child that in life you have to make sure you have solid roots and that you have to work hard and make sacrifices in the present to achieve happiness and peace in the future, I don't start a philosophical treatise... I tell him the story of the wolf and the 3 little pigs. The meaning of what I'm saying is important and anchored in reality but we can't expect to see a pig building a house out of matches. The Bible is this: I deeply believe in its meaning, but if you tell me that you really believe that all humanity descended from a single couple of people who were cast out for biting into an apple, I can't help but laugh in your face. This absurdity is fortunately typical of many Americans but completely absent in the rest of the world. I'm religious too but one thing doesn't exclude the other. Faith is one thing, rational thought and science are another: you cannot decide whether to believe certain things or not, simply because the facts are like this. Evidence sometimes confronts us with truths that are not debatable.
Once you get around to Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned, that's when you'll receive the full blast of T00L weirdness. And they've actually done it in concert, with him doing the full vocal intro spill.
I see this track as being about evolution of self. Becoming the next, better, and therefore evolved version of oneself. The reference of shadow is in the context of Carl Jung's described shadow, which is the part of us that represents characteristics associated with guilt, remorse, fear, disgust, etc. Those negative parts of ourselves that we try to repress and hide from others. Growing and stepping away from these characteristics is the pinnacle of personal evolution.
This one is Deep…. Lateralus too… my son is 18 and just started learning the bass about 6 months ago… this and schism were the first two songs he learned ( he working on YYZ now by Rush) anyways 🌀out ( again Lateralus will make that clear ) 😂

It's not just stepping away, but stepping through. There's acceptance, and incorporation of those parts. Evolving requires the information.
