You have the intellect and enough curiosity to be a life long Tool fan. Welcome to the army. Spiral Out my friend.
Jake thank you for the comment, I appreciate your kind words man!
Came here to say the same thing. You basically nailled the lateralus song as well. Sub' and cheers!
Well said
No kidding I’m just getting a chance to see his reaction and I can’t wait to see the rest and see him, spiral out 😂
You don't need to be an intellect to like a band lmao you sound self absorbed
Headphones are a must with Tool
Got you! I'm on it asap, I didn't think I'd go on a ride like this!
Not a must if you have a good system, but if your lacking in that area, headphones are DEFINATELY recommended.
TOOL is so great in doing songs that can be interpreted as many things to each individual listener. Maynard uses words many folks will need a dictionary for. Which is great in my opinion. Being educated feels amazing. When you can back your views with solid facts, it is a very empowering thing. Here are what my quick takes on some TOOL sings.
Stinkfist is about any type of addiction.
Aenema is pretty much how "civilization" has destroyed humanity.
The Pot is about hypocrisy.
RIGHT IN TWO...MY FAVORITE FAVORITE FAHAAYYYYVORITE TOOL SONG OF ALL TIME. It basically describes how prone to fallacy humans are. Part of the lyrics, your gonna love this Brother..."REPUGNANT IS A CREATURE WHO WOULD SQUANDER THE ABILITY TO LIFT AN EYE TO HEAVEN, CONSCIOUS OF HIS FLEETING TIME HERE!" OmLORD IT IS SO TRUE!
Vicarious is about how we as humans feel the desire to watch others struggles, demise even, how the whole universe is hostile. Have you ever seen two dogs get in a fight, and they bout ta kill each other, then they just stop and proceed to be totally cool with one another? It is an interesting thing in nature that grudges, although sometimes held, are not to the severity of mankind. A paradox of sorts.
I have many more I could do short breakdowns on, but we are teaching our 15 yo Matthew how to drive, and I am at an Old Navy picking up cargo shorts for the family. I would be honored to actually speak to you on stuff. You are on a path that is soooo cool, and it is so unfortunate that not everybody desires Truth as you and I do. Stay real homie, I know you would not have it any other way, your life ain't no fiction book Bro. RESPECT!
@KkDog, check the bottom message I left here, some short breakdown, very short, of some TOOL stuff. It's so deep though, you would need hours of discussion between two people or more to even break the surface. KkDog, your in for a ride with this band!!!!
Well, the message above this one as it is on my phone, lol.
FACTS ...AND AS LOUD AS U CAN STAND IT . sorry for all caps I am a moron ..lol
You’re never going too deep with Tool. Maynard will drag you down an abyss you never knew existed.
He took me there for sure! What a ride!
With Tool, the only "correct" meaning is the one you reach in relation to your own life
And that's why I believe I'll love this journey so much!
Exactly
Well said..thats how music is supposed to be..good music is like this..
And it can change with the changes within you.
Great comment.
Its a beautiful thing to witness someone experiencing Tool for the first time. ❤
Thank you for giving my video a shot :)
My favorite band is Bad Religion
That's what your mom said
@Steven Guerin I see what you did there
Nearly every time someone interprets the lyrics of this song on a first-time listen, they are rightfully confused, and, lost, but, you are quite on point, good sir.
I imagine, if someone had written their thesis on the works of Carl Jung, the lyrics of this song would have punched them in the face, on first listen, but, not all of us are "that guy."
I'm so impressed with your interpretation. Not many people can hear TOOL for the first time and pick up on what their meaning is. Cuddos to you!
Thank you so much !!
Not many people pick up on the topic of subconscious in the lyrics in their first listen. Great job.
Carl Jung’s shadow
What do you think I'm eight I'm over 45 years old and been fighting with my kids mom for years over custody I put her through college she's 22 now
That was actually really funny I like humor
I really got a kick out of that
Without looking up on the Internet do you know what Maynard's job was when I got hired for the band he was a mortician
“I like that build up” …Lateralus has entered the conversation.
“I’m getting too deep”
On the contrary my friend, I think you just about had it
Thank you so much for the love! I truly appreciate it! This was such a fun song
I totally get it they're one of the deepest fans I've ever seen so good on you
Yeah I kind of stopped listening after Lateralus
This song is a pretty good intro to Tool. The Pot should be next because it is a 4/4 beat and easy to consume for a new listener. They have a lot of odd time signatures and are one the most unique and special bands ever. Their fans are crazy and overzealous though, like a cult.
Tool army? Tool army... oh yeah... Tool army!
I agree The Pot best for new Tool listeners
Parabola is another good one. It has a “grove” feel where people can jump into it.
Sober is was a good starter for some of my friends.
Nah yeah…
Tool are magicians - their music and the lyrics are esoteric and literal magic. A lot of people never considered their favorite musicians are actually wizards, and maybe it's better that way...
Or aliens 🤷🏻♀️.
Because.. nothing compares to the level they have always been on. Ohh how I love to see literally anyone react to their first TOOL experience. It’s like watching someone hear or see for the first time. Indescribable. 👏🏼
well, technically, yes you are correct. they are wise and with any good wine... it gets better with age.
Agreed and 46&2 it's about the DNA ascending to what the new age world call Christ conscience, Rosetta stoned is probably one of the most creative songs about Maynard's DMT trips where he meets the being who taught him the magic
Look deeply into Maynard's or Danny's eyes. They know what they are doing on many dimensional levels
1 Headphones a must for tool
2. Welcome to the rabbit hole that is Tool.
I'm on it! I gotta grab some good quality headsets!!
The rabbit hole that is infinite ♾. Spiral 🌀 out with us shall you?! 👏🏼 #toolfanfromwayback
You are totally correct about how truly deep Tool is. Maynard is in essence a modern philosopher. The meaning of the song is about the possibility of humans evolving beyond their current form...44 chromosomes and 2 sex . Adding 2 chromosomes would evolve humans to a state of total consciousness. You did great at figuring most of this song, being your first experience with Tool. Keep on Rockin brother... only gets better.
46 and 2 is the math --- 23 chromosomal pairs. Adding 1 chromosomal pair would make us primates, Chimp Chromo 2A and 2B is fused in Humans, to just Chromosome 2.
While this song can take you in many directions, in the end, it's about being enslaved to our DNA.
I'm pretty sure Maynard has denied that this song is about chromosomal evolution. I think it's more about change, getting older, etc. I don't know for sure but the chromosome idea has been put to rest.
@@matthew6427
It's completely about chromosomes. It's Carl Jung philosophy.
@@kylekarcher The title may be about chromosomal count but I think the song itself is about spiritual evolution. I'll have to dig through the interviews to find which exactly he talks about it. I found a quick 70 second (or so) interview where he talks about chromosomes but doesn't say that it's the actual song. Who knows though, he's also said that everyone can and should draw there own conclusions and interpretations, like art. Maybe that's why it's more ambiguous, rather than saying exactly what it's about. 🤷♂️
@@matthew6427
Look up Carl Jung about are shadows. This song is straight out of his philosophy.
Ladies and gentlemen, we got another one. This man gets it.
Welcome to TOOL my friend.
"I don't know whats happening to me"
You stepping out the other side. ;)
With Tool, it's always great to hear/watch someone new react to their music! Because we get to re-live the experience we had during our first time. Welcome!
Glad to be here!!
You’re on the right track young fella. Asking the right questions. Welcome to Tool. May your journey be enriching.
I truly appreciate it! Thank you for the support Tim! It means alot to me
Lol
I remember my first beer
I think you're right about the shadow self, there seems to be a lot of Jung in this
Underrated comment right here
Nail on the head!
There is Jung in this. Maynard studied Yung. Even gave him credit on this song.
@@tedwlkr8 yes. The shadow self is Jung.
Yes there is
I know this video is not new. I just wanted to tell you it’s something special to witness someone hearing Tool for the first time. Your ability to capture and understand the lyrics and what was happening in the music is fantastic. The lyrics are always going to adapt their meaning to what you personally have within you already. That’s part of the intrinsic beauty of the lyrics and the music supporting them with Tool. It’s an experience with this band. For me, it’s always something that speaks to being human. Things we all have pieces of regardless of what we look like, or where we come from. It’s part of being here. Getting past the surface and to what connects all human beings. And it’s great music. I love the heavy sound. I don’t always think too much when I’m listening. I don’t always have be diving. I just like to enjoy the music. I’ve been listening to Tool and Perfect Circle for many years and love the lyrics. But, I also just enjoy the music too. I can tell you do too! It’s such a great feeling to see someone enjoying this music for the first time! I smiled through the whole video dude! Loved hearing what you had to say. There’s no wrong way to enjoy music. It’s music!
46 and 2 also relates to the 46 and 2 theory which is interesting. Definitely look it up! Thank you for sharing this!
Tool is incredibly deep, not just lyrically but time signatures also. Flood, Parabol/Parabola are my most frequently visited tracks.
I loved it I'll definitely do more
Its a beautiful thing watching someone transform into the Tool family. Well done, your interpretation was spot on!!
I appreciate you family!
Little known fact I've been clinically Dead four times I got ran over by a car and shoved into the gutter that's actually true
@@kkichgo I do too she's in college for film and she doesn't have blue hair
I'm not sure if that was nice or not
Tool is nuts. They’re a little weird but they’re all masterful musicians .
I went to rock concerts constantly as a teen. Tool was easily the best live!
I'll definitely review some live performances as well
@@kkichgo Go for "Pneuma" then. U can watch the "Octopus" Danny Carey go absolutely nuts. 🤯
ruclips.net/video/FssULNGSZIA/видео.html
Same with me I saw them at the first ozz fest in Kansas City mo it was intense Maynard was dressed in colonial era clothing, up hat and all, and ended up in his boxers lol I'd never seen anything like it before
I saw them at the Gorge and Washington State I don't know if you've ever been there but that place is badass as a river running in the back of it
When I was 15 my friends tried to take me to the opiate concert at the Tacoma Dome and I said no
This is why I love Tool reactions, especially younger folks. This album blew my mind in 1996. We old Tool fans have heard these songs literally hundreds of times. Watching you get into it and saying "oh man, I want more" at the end gives me a little hope for the future. Nice work, sir.
Tool is definitely a one of a kind band.
There are a lot of great rock bands.
But there's only one tool.
TOOL is a tough one to react to if never heard any of there music before, I didn't think I'd see this band on your channel. I really like that you are willing to step put of your comfort zone we all should be doing the same.
If want more theres more! Its all amazing and we gonna here to watch you discover. I've loved Tool for 22 years I'm still amazed by songs I've thousands of time's. Their style completely unique. They want songs to feel like they evolve. It feels almost freeform or improvisational
It was quite an awesome experience! I definitely want to dive into more! Thanks Brandon!
I see videos on here of people discovering Tool, and I seem to watch all of them.
“The song plays you” is something I remember someone saying about 46 & Two.
KDog......Tool is amazing!!
You are absolutely right! This song is about finding ones self, shedding the old you, that must be done every so often!
Tool is constantly challenging our psyche!
Takes me back to my college days!
Lyrics are a must with Tool! Would love to see more! Please check out “Aenema” and also “Pneuma”Live with Danny Carey drumming! He is known as the octopus!
So glad to see you reacting to Tool! Their songs are messages and are always powerful!
You will LOVE “Aenema” TRUST!!!!!!
Learn to swim 🤘
DANNY, DANNY, DANNY … !

YAY! I'm so stoked that you decided to check out Tool! Tool is a pioneer in the rock/metal genre. I am beyond ecstatic that you enjoyed this ❤.....The next step is heavy metal bro 😜🤘 can't wait for you join the metal head family 😁 also if you like this you should definitely check out Change (in the house of flies) by Deftones!
LETS GET 100 LIKES!
Outside of my COMFORT ZONE! This was a personal request from one of my channel member/subscribers! I hope you enjoy the reaction!
It's good to have a first time listener get what Tool is all about with the first listen! You will definitely enjoy this Tool ride!!!💜🙏
Dig in and enjoy the ride
just always remember, music is universal, never limit yourself
Don't know why but when you said I don't know what's happening to me right now and laughed it cracked me up and I teared up. First time checking out your videos. Love from a homeless man in the desert Southwest.
First, I’m absolutely psyched that you’re trying out Tool! Second, I’m commenting at the halfway mark of the reaction, no you are not going too deep and it is amazing to see someone deciphering this without an explanation. Although, again, I’m only at the halfway mark. So I got to go and finish the video!
And done! That was deep and you killed it. All I can say is that googling 46+2 will blow your mind further. It will get into a theory around the combinations of human chromosomes. There is another version of the video on RUclips that has a summary of the theory and Jung’s theory around the different parts of a person’s psyche including the shadow. Or something like that.
Excellent first reaction. Tool eulogy
Ooohhhh ...never heard of Tool!!!!
This is probably the fastest I've ever seen anyone understand this song! Incredible! You just got one more subscriber out of me!
This is the smartest reaction to a song I've ever seen. Spot on man! The singer studies Carl Jung, who discusses the shadow part of ourselves, and duuuuude, you literally hit the nail on the head with your interpretation of it. I'm really impressed.
This was so awesome watching you come to your own conclusions on what this song means to YOU or figuring out what he is saying. Gave me goosebumps!
"Are we getting into philosophy here?" You got it right my dude
Bro I've been listening Tool since 92 and I must say your reaction was awesome. I definitely think you would love more of their music. Remember this is from their third album back in the mid 90s and they've only gotten better and better
You are spot on with the psychology read. Karl Yung described the shadow self. That part of us we bury and hide from, not only the outside world at large, but often times even ourselves. They meld this concept with the theory that the next evolution of humans of a higher being will have chromosomes of 46 and 2. It’s an extremely deep song.
You need headphones brother to have a better sonic experience.Great reaction! We need more Tool.Coming from a rap and hip hop background ....try
TOOL-THE POT.....you can never go wrong with that one as a first time Tool listener. You have to get use to their sound.....every song they have is a masterpiece.Keep going 🐰🌀
I was going to suggest myself.....lol. May have pushed suggesting APC....Judith 🤣🤣🤣🤣
First time seeing your reaction to anything. As a fan of tool for 27 years, this is the first reaction that I've seen from this band where I feel like I'm sitting in the room with you and watching a new recruit to the tool army being born.
I absolutely love your appreciation for the instrumental build-up combined with the lyrical intricacies of this band. Keep the Tool reactions going! Love you man.
As a major Tool fan - your reaction was perfectly and solidly legit! You impressed the hell out of me walking through that song and actually recognizing and highlighting every deep and beautiful aspect of that song. You were picking up what Tool was laying down, right from the beginning! Your pauses were timely - narrative perfectly in line and just long enough - then back to Tool. Good for you dude - you’re the real deal!!
I saw Tool… I clicked. Welcome to the Tool Army man!! You are in for a ride! Can’t wait to see more. 👍🏽
I REALLY recommend headphones when listening to Tool. But holy crap...I really enjoy your profound insights of the band and your psychospiritual knowledge.
Everyone says that, but, I have a second suggestion. Get a pair of very flat (not frequency-hyped) studio reference monitors, with at least five inch drivers, eight inch, if you can afford it.
Set your monitors up at ear-level, and position them such that you are equidistant from each monitor, and the monitors and you form an equilateral triangle, if you will. (Monitors are amplified speakers, btw.)
Run your mixer into these monitors, and bring the master volume up to a level that doesn't hurt your ears, but is loud enough to excite.
You are now prepared for an adequate listening experience.
I forgot to mention, there are two very important considerations, when it comes to reference monitors. More watts is better. Also, separate speaker cones should have their own amplification, meaning "bi-amplified."
Or closed-back over-ear headphones... Of decent quality...
Maynard is very smart and uses his musical skills to either enlighten or at the very least create curiosity about those layers of our persona.
This was such a genuine reaction. Well done sir!
"wait a minute.... let me look at those lyrics, that kinda deep actually"
Yeah thats tool
I remember buying this album on the day it came out and it was mind blowing to a young person. It’s an incredibly deep album that really can take you places.
You're correct. This is a philosophical song based on the teachings of Carl Jung. Wonderful song, welcome to Tool.
Wow. Good job man.
Haha thank you so much, it means alot to me,n
Tool Army! I see our guy here just started his Tool journey. I watched the Lateralus reaction. This guy has the spark in his third eye, the intellect to understand it and he might just have the will to follow a whim and really come to appreciate Tool and the art-form. I’d say he’s already a private. Welcome to the Tool Army bro.
Tool! Bringing me back to my teens & twenties! #KdogNation ❤️
Welcome to Tool! More please!
Okay more is definitely coming!, I'll get on it asap! Appreciate you
Awesome - that was great fun! Good job. You wanna go deep, do more Tool - we LOVE it!
Glad you enjoyed the ride Brett! It was super fun! Hope you stick along for more!
YAAAAAAAASSSSSS!!! I'm so hyped for you dipping into this band!
This song is about dealing with the Shadow portion of your own personality and stepping through it into the next form of conscienceness through enlightenment. (46+2, since we currently have 46 chromosomes total 44+2)
You definitely experience Tool songs, not just listen. Keep up the great work, man! Love hearing your perspective and insight in these reactions!
HOGxTooL
edit: The Pot, Schism, Vicarous are all great intros to TooL, but from what I know, Right in Two might really connect with you
First time watching your videos, I love when people get to know and love Tool. I just went and saw them this past tour in Columbus, Ohio..... something I highly recommend! So amazing! Welcome to the Tool family
It was an absolute privilege to see you reacting to Tool for the first time. The waves of "eureka" moments reminded me so much of the first time I heard them. I stopped as much as you did, if not more, to contemplate. Then listened to it like 4 times straight and I was hooked. If you keep digging into TOOL there is a LOT of divine mathematics involved with the music itself.
Subbed for your tool journey, it's the only band I know that take me on that kind of rides. (pure emotion)
Just want to see you going down that rabbit hole.
I can't wait until we go down the Rabbithole more!
The main riff for this song has been my main ringtone for 3 yrs now.. It always reminds me.....
Watching you piece this all together and break it down is pretty great! Welcome to the world of Tool!
Solid reaction . Welcome to the world of Tool . It’s a musical journey . Enjoy the ride . Dive deep into Tool
Welcome to the TooL family!!!
Glad to be here! Thanks Joe!
Deep within each and every one of us exists the "shadow self" the deepest darkest innermost thoughts/feelings/actions that most hide away from the world. This song is about Maynard fighting his demons, so that he may evolve into a better person. The title is an homage to human evolution, where our predecessors cromagnum man had 42 sets of 2 chromosomes, this can also be found in the aborigines of australia. We now have 44 sets of 2 choromosomes within our DNA before the chain repeats itself. Evolutionist believe that in our next stage of evolution out future selves will have 46 sets. So its safe to say that this song is about Maynard's evolution as a human being. And it is true, its better to embrace your demon to help to tame them, as repressing them causes those feelings to bottle up, pushing people to act out. I serously want to give you props for understanding that fact as well, it takes an intellectual to really understand the message behind tools songs. You are definately on the right track to interpretating this one. Trust and believe there's no such thing as Too deep when trying to figure out Tool, because in reality, were probably only scratching the surface of what goes on in these guys minds. 😋 Great work tho! Keep it up.
You are all over it. Tool music is deep. But when you dig into it, it’s soooooo deep. Thank you for opening up your mind to a different genre. If you choose to go down the rabbit hole the Tool Army will follow and direct you. It’s incredible.
The way you thought philosophically about the song is something that makes this band beautiful for the philosophical mind, you could be a lifelong tool fan as others have said
I'm shallow. I just jammed to this song for so long. Still my favorite tool song. It's my ring tone for the last 10 years
people that appreciate the art of music and dont restrict themselves on the boundaries of genres will have a welcome spot in the tool family
"WoW, I want more"..........YES, yes you do!! Just an fyi with Tool, lyrics and headphones are a must!! Keep going my man!! *_SPIRAL OUT_*
I actually watched your Lateralus reaction before this, but enjoyed both and that you grasped the lyrical genius of Maynard. Mix that with the off-beat timing signatures of Danny and the wicked bass and guitar Justin and Adam lay down and TOOL, is just that, a tool to take you to a higher consciousness of mind and groove in body :) You have a good outlook and I'm also proud of you my brother in Christ for your public affirmation of Him. Lead by example, well done
Always an adventure
Loved the reaction! This was a ride for sure! Thanks for sharing with us.
You are so welcome!! Thanks for giving my video a chance!!
God dang that song hits. I feel like no matter how you interpret it, it invokes a feeling of primal overcoming, rebirth, and evolution. Love that you loved it. Tool rocks.
I cry tears of joy every time I see a RUclips video of a TOOL fan being born. Welcome to the TOOL army brother. :,)
Welcome aboard. Always room for one more in the Tool Army. You're in for a good time.
Your journey, your reaction and appreciation of TOOL was a joy to behold. The greatness of TOOL for me is that it is primal, it is visceral and it is spiritual. The duality of life. The emotional self and the deeper, cosmic self.
Well done 👏
That's not fair I've been dead four times and I'm a lucid Dreamer what have you done lol
I do appreciate the banter .
you feel the rock build up like i hear a hip hop beat drop…i think people that ‘feel’ music can easily grasp the emotions that come thru the music and lyrics/bars. music knowns no boundaries 🖤 love the vid, friend
You absolutely got it! Tool sonically and lyrically takes you on a spiritual journey. I will find myself going into my thoughts during a tool song and start realizing something about myself, a truth. And then I'll come back and realize that I'm missing my favorite part of the song and I got to rewind it....lmao
To lead you on a journey of self-discovery and healing if you allow it....including the angry ones. Because anger is a part of the process. You must pick those scabs if you are ever going to step through your shadow. To your better/more self aware, self.
💯 I am a die hard Tool fan and you killed it!!! You are right in your interpretation. I think....and I can personally relate to this. Can't wevall?? Watch these guys live. It's only 4 main dudes! Maynard not 9nly sings, but his stage presence, his body portrays all of the deep feelings as he performs. Something to see! 👍
Tool's best asset is the brilliant creation of the feeling of angst.
"I'm probably going way out there. I need to stop".
Reply from Tool army: "You're never too far 'out there' - keep digging, my friend and welcome!" 👍
Spiral out. KEEP GOING!!!!! TOOL is the one band that breaks through all boundaries, creeds, cultures, mind sets. It is spiritual and deep. My wife and I just seen them live in Boston last Saturday. Awesome show. 👌
Wow. Smart enough to enjoy tool. WELCOME 🎉🎉🎉
30 year Tool fan here. You nailed it off the top.
My son turned me on to Tool and I have been thanking him for it every day 😊😊😊
Man. You hit on many things that have gone through my head listening to tool over the years. Love the channel.
Liked and subscribed in hopes that you'll keep going on this journey! More!!! The Tool Army won't be far behind! As someone else here said, you have the intellect for this to *really* speak to you. I do recommend a good set of headphones and to always keep the lyrics handy. Spiral out, my friend.
13:34 I think I comment on first-time Tool reactions with "enjoy the ride" when the reactor realizes what they are experiencing. Its kinda crazy how many first time Tool reactors use "journey" "ride" or roller coaster" in their descriptions.
Just starting to watch your Tool journey. So excited for this
12:13 oh boy, first Tool song and he's already lost himself in the instrumentals😂🎉 this is my first vid ive seen of yours...kinda excited to see the ride
Great review man, as real as it gets, first hearing the greatness of this band and how they actually make you feel! “On a journey, a ride”, that’s a statement that many first listeners say. Started listening to them back in 93’ in the CG. They Never get old.
Congratulations on having the most on point insight/analysis of anyone I've seen react to this song. Just as you were thinking that you were going too deep, you were right where you needed to be.
Danny Carey the drummer of Tool will blow you away if you never watched him performed. A must see … the last time I watched Tool live the crowd was chanting his name when the show ended. Nothing short of greatness.
I'm comin' in at least a year after this was uploaded, but your take on it is quite good and I think accurate.
Thanks alot :)
Tool has blown my mind since the first time I heard them. That was over 30 years ago.
Love that it’s provoking that type of reflection.
You pause at the beat parts lol 😆. Welcome brother.
Whoa kkdog you like tool?! Nice!!
Wow bro! Please preach my brotha!
Thank you Richard!!
