I discovered tool a year before lateralus came out and since then every musician I listened to has had to stack up to them and for the longest time I would not listen to anything but tool or apc. Tool Definitely helped mold my psyche and how I approach my life and decisions. I'm forever grateful for this band and the art they share with us.

Awesome reaction. Tool is my favorite band, all time. I'm 61 and grew up with Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Rush. Tool is the contemporary component I was looking for back in the late 90s. Every album, every track is so good and original, with such intelligent lyrics and musicianship. I would recommend next two songs: Pneuma and Right In Two. Enjoy the Tool journey, you won't want it to end.Btw, I've been to nine of their concerts and they are an incredible sonic and visual experience, if you ever get the chance and they're touring now!

In an interview years ago Maynard was asked if the money was good and how he felt about being a Rock Star. Maynard for those who don’t know is the singer of TOOL and also writes the lyrics for all songs. He responded if they can’t make songs that help people become better human beings or help them deal with problems and tragedies that happen in life then he wouldn’t be making music for just the money. He also says he does not like the term Rock Star and he sure doesn’t want anybody to call him that. And if you follow TOOLs discography you can tell he meant what he said.

It's just incredible how, after so many years not putting any record out and them getting older, they can still output some timeless classics the way they did with this album. Most bands are only a reflection of what they once were once they are out for so long, Tool came back with an absolute banger of an album in which I can say some of the songs are amongst my favorites. Was a bit afraid it would be an "old tired Tool" playing mostly on nostalgia, but no. Sure, most of the album is a bit calmer than what they typically do, but the sound is so mature and the themes fit their journey perfectly. It's absolutely innovating on their sound, yet we can still easily call it a Tool album and know that its their sound, even they it evolved.
They are really one of a kind.

Not a lot of people notice it's the ocean at the beginning and end of the song.
It's as if the song maps out the struggle of human existence and possible ruin.
We came (crawled out) from the waves and can be ended by them as well if we aren't mindful.
We need to become caretakers of this planet instead of destroyers or all too soon the planet will take everything back and shrug us off.
    End of story.
"Falling isn't flying, floating isn't infinite" are my favorite lines too.

Wonderful aren't they? I love that you take the time to appreciate the lyrics. That being the case, do yourself a favor and listen to 10000 days and Wings for Marie. Technically a 2 part, it relates to Maynard's (lyricist and lead vocals) mother and how she fell ill. 10,000 days is the equivalent to the time she spent in a wheelchair, struck down in her prime. Judith Marie ( his mother) was a devout Christian, whose faith never wandered, despite her having been stricken down. The church shunned her, saying she must have done something to deserve it.
These 2 are extremely powerful, and I caution you that it may well be a very emotional journey. Please, do yourself a favor, and take them in. There is also a subsequent song from A perfect Circle ( another Maynard venture) called Judith. Maynard has some strong views on this. To the point that they have only ever played these live 1 time I believe. It's too hard for him. Maynard preforms with every fiber of his being, as is evidenced by the 1993 live performance video of Sober...Chilling.
    New sub!

Take any Tool album, lay on the floor between your speakers, listen from front to back. It will be worth it, promise!

Somehow Tool always leaves you asking "How did we get there from there?" "How can I have experienced so much in such a little time?"

Oh you have a long journey but it's a good one. Good for you. I always enjoy seeing people discover everything you just said you discovered. And yes this album was the very self-indulgent in an endearing way culmination of all their work. Every song an epic super Prague Rock journey with the signature tool sound. It is majestic. It does take a certain kind of person to love this music. Welcome to the clan.

More TooL !!!!! Reaction videos of TooL allow me to live “vicariously”through experiencing all TooL all over again. Also allow the song to play to its entirety is a major plus. Enjoy the ride it’s never ending.

There are great and legendary bands in this world and then there is this whole other universe with but very few solar systems. One of them is called Pink Floyd and another is Tool, not to mention Mozart and the likes.
I envy the journey that lies in front of you. You're in for a helluva ride and I look forward to more vicarious firsts.🙂

Great song to start with!! They don’t have one bad song that’s actually a song, they use some musical intermissions on albums that they give title names to. Enjoy the journey, favorite band of all time and the best band of all time in my opinion. Zeppelin and Pink Floyd influenced
