TOOL's music has been evolving for over 30 years. The newest album is sublime. Say it with me kids... TOOL is Pink Floyd for the new millennium. 🤘🧙♂️🤘
I can't argue with that. They are Pink Floyd level with Rush, Zeppelin for me. I have Pantera, Jinjer & Sleep Token close to that level personally and there's a few others, Skynyrd, AC/DC, VH, ZZ Top. So many great bands over the years. Not much is better than some Joe Bonamassa & Beth Hart or Linda Ronstadt. Jimi Hendrix & SRV are up there at the top.
When they perform live Maynard purposefully performs in the back part of the stage behind everyone else in the shadows because he believes that the music is what's important instead of him.
I do miss the theatrics of his early years though. You couldn't help but feed off of his energy. But the performance has evolved along with the music I suppose @@DatH1pster
This was my favorite track off this album. The "RISE!!!" and "STAY...ALIVE!!!" caught me so hard. Literally felt like my "self" was being called to action. Simply amazing.
I've heard this song a million times... Was in the kitchen with the bluetooth and (admittedly I needed to stretch, but... ) I lifted my hands in the air in fists when this part came on.. It's goes so hard.
@jimbojones8978 see, what I love about music/art is that when done "right", it leaves meaning open to personal interpretation. Like, instead of triumphant, I heard it as a desperate plea like "DON'T YOU DARE GIVE UP ON YOURSELF! YOU STAY RIGHT HERE WITH US GODDAMN IT!" So my hands do clenched fists against my chest.
Greatest song I’ve ever heard. You don’t just hear it, you absorb it into your soul. I love almost all Tool songs, and a whole lot of songs by other artists, but this is the absolute pinnacle, IMHO. Spiral out, bro!
As a metal guy for the last 40 years, it's always funny to see people's reactions to "13-minute songs," which, if you grew up with Rush and Iron Maiden, is pretty average :)
It used to take us one Paeschendale to drive to school. Or we'd drive around listening to the Gettysburg boinus disc from Iced Earth - Glorious Burden.
I’m so happy to be here to witness you go through your TOOL journey… So many more trips to take. I’ll be here… One of many traveling companions. TOOL ARMY!
In terms of mix and production this is one of the best Tool has ever released. This sounds so clear but still powerfull, the panoramic mixing is amazing. Also Danny's drumming on this is just next level, especially in the long instrumental part. The way he moves the feel and accentuation is just mindblowing. This quickly became one of my favorite songs. Glad you liked it!
The intro isn't bringing you OUT of the water, its bringing you INTO the water so you can descend with the song all the way to the deepest trenches and depths, to then shoot back out to the surface and back on land...to do what needs to be done if this song galvanized you to action.
Tool is epic and much like a fine wine gotten better over the years. From seeing them in 2003 to 2023. Wow best show I have seen hands down!! See them in concert before they are no more.
The quiet parts and the transitions are immensely important to their compositions, this really can't be overstated! Tool are masters of space, timing and most importantly TONE!
Welcome to Tool Army bro!! Been on this journey 30+ years and it only gets better. This is an inner journey that every person feels differently. Still gives me chills
TOOL is amazing! You really have to listen many times and read the lyrics, they have over 30 years of great music and have evolved, I listen to TOOL daily like medicine to your mind!
Your reaction to this song is exactly what this music is made for. I got to relive my first hearing of this again vicariously through you. So brilliant. ❤

The peak is the most greatest thing I've ever heard... goosebumps, to say the least. I feel it like an external part of myself..it's just so profound, I can't find the words to describe it
I love their "Holy Trinity" *Invincible, Descending and Culling Voices* Is like their Holy Trinity². With the 2 together, I like to think one is a *As Above* version and one is *So Below.*
Thank you for showing so much appreciation for Adam Jones on this song. I sometimes feel like he's sort of the unsung hero of so many tool songs, and I think this song in particular is his absolute best work to date. Being in a band with 3 other musical geniuses can make it easy to get overshadowed. I know Adam Jones isn't one of the greatest guitar players ever, but he gives each song exactly what it needs. He's so creative and has such a specific sound you know immediately it's a tool song even if you've never heard it before the second you hear Adam. I also found your goku/vegeta analogy particularly funny. Great video, keep it up! 🤘
This my favourite tool track beat no quarter and the grudge by a bit when it released but still remains my top 1 song... its a slow burn (all this albums songs are) but so worth it
Great reaction. There are many elements to Tool's greatness but the icing on the cake is the tone of their instruments. I love the tone of Danny's drums, Adam's guitar, Justin's bass and of course Maynard's voice.
First time I heard this song was 2018 live at Pine Knob MI. It blew me away and still get chills when I listen to it. My second favorite Tool song to Pushit.
There’s a video that came out shorty before this album was released where Adam Jones is practicing the guitar part that starts at 17:41. I can’t tell you how hyped I was the first time I watched that video
You'll love Tempest, cause as the title suggests you'll experience the atmospheric conditions of the storm coming Adam does like a 5min solo and created a soundscape with the music, plus Danny of course brings the thunder with the drums, and this song won a Grammy for best rock/metal song in 2019
@@PongGod for sure for sure, 7empest is in that rosetta stoned category for me. A lot going on, not enough melody until the end. Enjoy the rest of the album tons though.
@@jaredrogers7863 I've never cared for Rosetta Stoned at all. The vocals are just too weird and off-putting. The drumming, of course, is great. The middle part of 7empest, where Adam just goes off with the guitar is pretty special. But I'd still rank it only my 4th favorite on the FI album behind Pneuma and Descending (toss-up between those two) and Invincible. Culling Voices and the title track are both solid tracks right behind those. Overall, a fantastic album and it's what really got me hooked on Tool.
That was a fun live stream. I love how after the Pneuma drum cam reaction Mugs started to mention Danny by name. Now after this one he sure knows Adam's name>
What is truly amazing is how beautiful their musical creations are. I find myself comparing all other music of our age to tool and a majority of it cannot reach the level of artistry Tool is on. I'm thoroughly thankful to be able to experience them live.

This thang is a masterpiece, all around, over all, insane, honesty this band is somehow healing, being getting me through some BS for years and years most of my life, not sure how they even do it lol, f..king amazing, also dead @ Adam Hendrix
When I was a kid I was playing at a beach somewhere near Jacksonville or St Augustine. A wave hit me too hard, and I got pulled out and under way too fast. The beginning of this song reminds me of what that sounded like
i love that youre diving into metal music. I like rap. But metal owns my heart and soul. It goes much deeper into music and feelings and the spectrum of human emotion and life. Hope you continue my friend. cheers.. Been loving your tool reacts. :)
I believe this song is a rant about humanity being very lazy and lethargic about life, how we dont strive to achieve very much except our own survival. How we have grown apathetic to life. Maynard uses a lot of reference words for sinking and falling into this apathy, hence "Descending".
30 years of albums and many of them are several years apart. Each album is looking back at the past and for long time fans it’s fun to watch your reaction and remember our firsts with this collection
Something interesting about Descending is that the song is primarily in a 7/8 time signature. There are some parts where they switch, but mostly a 7. But what is interesting to note is what the drums and bass are putting emphasis on. Right after the lyrics finish, you get what almost sounds like a heartbeat. All 3 instruments are putting emphasis on the 1, 4, 5, and 7. So you end up with 1 * * 4 5 * 7 1 * * 4 5 * 7. The Adam goes into a solo while danny and Justin continue the pattern. Danny later goes into some more technical stuff, still using the same phrasing while Justin holds steady on that 1 4 5 7 pattern.
Great first time reaction! The next time you hear it, it'd be like you haven't heard it before. Its the a trip everytime. Looking for your next tool reaction! 🖤 Maybe 'Bottom' from Undetow album.
The beginning of the song sounds like you are floating in the water and relaxing, no worries and no care. Not paying attention to all the things happening around you. You cant see the storm coming. Then you are in the middle of the storm and you have to fight to survive. But you made the situation by not paying attention. On a deeper level, this references the fall of great civilizations. Currently we are watching the fall of America, and America's control over world reserve currency. The passing of power and the conflict that will happen during the transition.

One thing about Maynard is that he also knows when NOT to sing. The second half of this song is so epic

"Descending" lyrics
↔️
Free fall through our midnight
This epilogue of our own fable
Heedless in our slumber
Floating nescient we free fall through this boundlessness
This madness of our own making
Falling isn't flying
Floating isn't infinite
Come our end suddenly
All hail our lethargy
Concede suddenly
To the quickened
Dissolution pray
We mitigate the ruin
Calling all to arms and order
Drifting through this boundlessness
This madness of our own making
Sound our dire reveille
Rouse all from our apathy
Lest we cease to be
Stir us from our
Wanton slumber
Mitigate our ruin
Call us all to arms and order
Sound the dread alarm through the primal body
Sound the reveille
To be or not to be
Rise
Stay the grand finale
Stay the reading of our
Swan song and epilogue
One drive to stay alive
Elementary. Muster every fiber
Mobilize
Stay alive
Stir us from our
Wanton slumber
Mitigate our ruin
Call us all to arms and order
