Allow me to assure you as an avid fan of the manga, that you are not looking too deeply into the themes of the story. If anything you are not looking deeply enough. The layers - like onions, ogres, and even dungeons - just keep going.
Manga reader here. Relationships, Bonds and the desire to understand others are very much themes of this story. In fact, when I realised that Dunmeshi and Frieren were going to air at the same time. I got a stab of envy for the people who were gonna experience both stories simultaneously for the first time.
I've loved watching fans of this show talk about how Senshi has inspired them to improve their daily lives, to eat more vegetables, get some exercise, etc. ❤
I love Delicious in Dungeon, it's been a genuine comfort watch over the winter, partly for the loneliness and seasonal depression but also as a learning home cook, reminding me of the beauty of cooking for and with others.
in spanish the series is called "tragones y mazmorras" which is a pun with tragones meaning gluttons and sounding like dragones=dragons and the name of dnd in spanish is dragones y mazmorras (dragons and dungeons) so it ends up sounding a lot like dnd
Dungeon Meshi makes my cooking nerd, DnD nerd, and ecology science nerd sides cackle with delight all at once, lol. The perfect anime to start off the year!
4:45 I love the ED song so much- the entry line (kimi no tame no Party da!) actually translates to “It’s a party for you!” But phrased in a way that also reads as “it’s a party for your sake” which calls back to the entire premise of the show- Laios and co forming a dungeon party to save Falin; This also couples well with the images which depict the events right before they lost her! It’s a surprisingly bittersweet song that’s both exciting and frantic in its delivery and matches the vibe of the anime so well! 🎉
I've seen people say Laios cares more about monsters than humans/ he relates to them more than humans, etc.--- but I've never really seen that? Then again, I'm anime-only and have only watched the released episodes once, but he's shown great love for his party and appreciation for their talents, puts them (and human life in general) first, he's broke up their arguments and is first to put his life in danger for his sister. He's very close with his sister, especially. In this line of thought, I'd pin his affinity for monsters as a hyperfixation and general curiosity of their workings & environment & conditions & such, kinda like Marcelle, just much more extreme and meticulous, maybe a bit obsessive? Not exactly healthy, but in no way does he seem to relate to or care for them? Anyway. I'd like an explanation of why people think otherwise. Love this show. And video.
I love having two slow paced, somewhat lighthearted, high quality fantasy anime (both even non-Isekai!) this season with Frieren and Delicious in Dungeon. It seems we got a bit of a comeback of non-Isekai fantasy anime at the moment. In addition to Frieren and DiD there are also Sengoku Youko (which got some real Inuyasha vibes) and Ishura (which is very much not lighthearted and slow paced ^^) out this season. BTW I really like your calm voiceover style in this video, fits right in with the topic.
I know having such good non-isekai shows is so refreshing! Just caught up with Frieren last week myself and it might be my favourite anime from last year and so far this year (sorry Dungeon Meshi). I haven't heard of Sengoku Youko and Ishura I'll have to keep my eye on them! Also thank you, glad you enjoyed the voiceover!
I would not call Dungeon Meshi a light heart anime Now to be clear it's not Dorohedoro, Berserk, Claymore or Hell's Paradise which is Dark Fantasy But It's pretty dark in my opinion
I have been reading the manga since 2018, and I'm just SO EXITED AND HAPPY, that more people is going to enjoy this story thanks to the anime!! I cant wait for all the cast to be introduced, its just so rich and unique!!
I really look forward to your seeing the upcoming arc- there's a pretty major storyline shift, exploring a lot of darker aspects of these themes, but without abandoning the fantasy charm that makes the series so enjoyable. It's really masterful.
I'm a manga reader and I think it's a great thing to have your own ideas about the series, regardless how how accurate they are. Besides, when I watch reaction videos, people are very quick to spot things that are actually addressed later on, or in the bonus chapter. It's definitely a series that rewards you for having questions and noticing things.
For me all it took was the trailer to know I'd love the show. But I'm so glad it's even better than "just a cooking show" could be. The story is so well thought out and after seeing a pretty spoilery page of the manga I'm super excited for what's to come in the anime.
I enjoyed the show so much i couldn't wait for it to air and read the manga. Its an incredible story and the themes you mentioned shine so brightly throughout. I cant wait to see people experience this lovely story
13:47 LMAOOO I WAS ACTUALLY PREPARING FOOD WHILE WATCHING THIS- Also lovely video! I’ve been going on a binge on videos relating to dungeon meshi, and this is a take I haven’t really seen so far! Thanks for making this video!
Hopefully the meal was good!! Haven't actually gotten round to watching many other videos about the series yet, mainly waiting for it to finish but glad I had a fresh take!
@@CameronHanashi Thank you, the meal was delicious! It was a really nice roll baked locally with some Mett on top! (Mett being a special German raw meat spread, it is very VERY delicious, especially with onions! Skipped those, unfortunately. Still delicious though! Highly recommend you try it if you somehow get the chance to) And yeah! It really was a fresh take! The other videos I’ve watched so far usually focus on the world building, character designs and monster designs, but no one really brought up the element of getting people together thanks to the preparation and consumption of food, which was something that immediately clicked for me when you brought it up! So thank you for making my appreciation for this series grow even further! Edit: if you want to know what Mett looks like, then Google “Mett Aufstrich”!
As someone who has finished the manga this series has one of the most satisfying endings I've seen in a while, the themes come full circle. (Also I'm eating dinner while watching this lol)
I am happy that studio Trigger will make 24 episodes of this show. If I guess it right I believe that's all the chapters of the manga from beginning to the end. I suggest you to read the manga once the 24 episodes are done. The manga is more in depth and you'll sometimes see the mangaka's random drawing in her omake.
As a frequent Dwarf player in many games, I really enjoyed that they had that grim determination added to them. The most martial of Dwarves are very well portrayed when they're determined or stubborn. Of course, all Dwarves can be different, but the best Dwarf is a determined one. After all, if you can't outrun your enemies: Then you must fight.
Hi ! First watch of one of you video (and I've watching it while sewing, so I think I'm still in the theme ^^) I've been a big fan of dunmeshi for a little over a year now. I'm just so happy that so many people have discovered it through the anime adaptation (which is a masterpiece, btw). I have friends that need to discover it, so I think I'll use your video to tell them about it too ^^ Thank you :D
When it comes to consuming manga and anime, there are seldom a few series where I can say that I outright love, and even then that love tends to dwindle a bit overtime and I don't remember liking it as much or my love for it is short-lived and I enjoy it for a month or so and it ends up in the back of my mind But Dungeon Meshi is a series that I can wholeheartedly say that I ABSOLUTELY ADORE WITH ALL MY HEART. When I first watched it, it was around the time where I felt somewhat burned out with anime and manga as a whole, all of it felt the same to me and it was also the time I was reading a lot of ongoing shonen manga (JJK, BNHA, etc) and I found myself disappointed with how they were going downhill in terms of narrative in favor of spectacle, it reached a point where I'd get frustrated with whatever I watched if it ticked me off in the slightest. But needless to say, when I watched the first episode, I fell in LOVE with it, everything from the premise, the setting, the characters, the comedy, the animation, EVERYTHING about it is nothing short of sublime, there's never a wasted moment in the show but it doesn't move at breakneck speeds and actually allows the characters to breathe and take it easy. And the characters, oh lord the characters, let me just say that I have never been this attached to a group of fictional characters in my life since Avatar, they all have their quirks, flaws and mannerisms but what sets them apart from most quirky characters is that despite that, they still have relatively grounded and human personalities on top of it. Laios, despite him not beating the monsterf*cker allegations, is still an empathetic and kind-hearted person on top of being a genuinely good leader when it comes to not deciding what monster he's gonna shove down his gullet. Marcille, despite everyone thinking she's a girlfailure (I'm not saying she isn't but we all have our moments okay, and I love her regardless and she's a cutie patootie), is very competent when push comes to shove as the group would've died countless of times if it wasn't for her along with serving as the heart and moral compass of the group (At least when it doesn't come to Dark Magic) Senshi, what else can I say that hasn't been said already at this point? Easily best-contender for best girl of 2024 Chilchuck, I didn't think much of him at first and thought he was just there for the ride, but as we got to know him more and see him bounce off with everyone, along with the discovery that he's actually a middle aged man, I can say without a doubt that he's one of my favorite characters, he does such a great job at playing both the professional and the straightman of the group and his interactions with everyone are hilarious. Izutsumi And that's just the characters, while I don't want this to go longer than I want it to, As a fellow worldbuilder myself, I absolutely LOVE both the world and setting, how Ryoko Kui managed to utilize a seemingly repetitive concept and spin it into something both unique yet creative is nothing short of amazing. I never thought I'd ever fall in love with a show as much as I have with Dungeon Meshi, I started watching it back when it first showed and as I'm typing this, it's already been 4 months since then, but my love for it continues to remain strong as if I was still on the first episode. This show, while not for everyone, is nothing short of magical, and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for something that's looking for something with a bit of everything from a good story, colorful and charming characters, a unique and interesting world. I love this show and I hope to see more people come to love it as much as I have, because if it could make someone as formerly cynical and pessimistic towards anime as me love it again, then you'll definitely enjoy it for sure. Thanks for reading if you made it this far, y'all are real ones, I bid you all a good day and that this was truly our Dungeon Meshi.
