Do they ever say in the series that hes supposed to have autism or is this just like Donatello in Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for example that the fans just assume that hes autistic but the show never says that he is?

In old stuff there was plenty of characters that were just supposed to be idiots but people today call those characters autistic for example.

Also you are forgetting that this is a Japanese show and things in Japan are still the way things used to be in the west and both in old western media and in modern Japanse media characters can be weird and unusual in different ways without being autistic all the time.
Im not in the mood to write a long comment explaining exactly what i mean but in the 2010s the west became filled with political correctness, wokeness, feminism and other similar stuff that changed the way people think about many different things but in Japan that never happened so they still think about things the way people here used to think about things.
If you dont believe me just watch old American and European stuff and you will see characters that would be seen as autistic by todays standards all the time but they were not supposed to be autistic when those things were made.
Ryoko herself is also pretty based. Not only does she have a great knowledge of fantasy as a genre, but she is also a huge fan of RPGs like TES, Dragonage, Pathfinder, etc. Almost after Baldurs Gate 3 was announced, she finished her manga. Girl was COMPLETELY PREPARED.

i did hear a lot about that but unfortunately wasnt able to find an english translation of the interview where she revealed this, and the interview was printed in a magazine iirc so i couldnt find any online copies of it in japanese either. i did, however, see her drawing of all the elves that inspired her. peak

Yeah. That's what happens after the ending. Look, for now the only thing you need to know is that the manga's message can be summarised as "gluttony isn't a sin" and "don't fuck with higher beings".

But gluttony is a sin in Dungeon Meshi though. Senshi emphasises constantly the need to take only what you need, and to live a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet. While the... "final enemy" is gluttony personified, since he only has a bottomless stomach.

Man, this manga transcends. It's crazy how much it changes from a cozy cooking to esoteric vampire philosophy with berserk over the top creative scenes, but it's still Dungeon Meshi, and (in the future of the lore) still feels consistent.

After the dragon, manga absolutely transcends into something so much more, I can't wait to see it in anime.
Best thing is, themes of hunger, death and desire remain core part of the manga.
The best part of Ryoko Kui's worldbuilding is the insane levels of depth and detail she manages. With your observations so far and some of the assumptions you've made I think you're going to be surprised in the best ways later in this show.

Ryoko is so good with character design, her art style is fairly simple but every character feels distinct and unique from one another, and she isnt afraid of drawing diverse body types, honestly you can see how much love she has for the human figure in her art as much as you can see how much love she has for cooking and consumption as concepts which is, as you may know, A LOT
I don't want to hype this up too much but, Dungeon Meshi is one of my favorite things period. I was reading it as it came out. I thought it was just going to be a joke manga and didn't expect it to last long. Then the world building started. Then the red dragon fight happened. By this time I am waiting excitedly when a new chapter was going to come out as the series did the almost impossible of actually getting better and better.
When the series started to wrap up, I was getting more and more excited because it looked like the author was going to stick the land. So many stories fumble the landing and I am over joyed to report that Dungeon Meshi isn't one of those. I enjoy the series so much that I actually have difficultly explaining why I love it so much.

I read the whole thing about 2 weeks after episode 3 and I am devastated I didnt start reading it sooner, it has some of my favorite pacing in a story flow. It might be my new favorite manga.

It would be cool if there was an actual cookbook based off the recipes in this show. Like imagine the giant scorpion recipe in episode one, but have characters illustrated on the side, saying things like, "If you can't find six-foot scorpions, lobster or giant crawfish are great substitutes!"

As someone who finished the manga and since it's 24 episodes the first half are just appetizers. The second half of the anime is the real main dish, and it gets even better and bizarre!
Man, I just LOVE Delicious in Dungeon! It just hits the right buttons for me to enjoy it, plus it’s my kind of deceptively lighthearted fantasy show! Really inspires me to a fantasy series of my own with such a colorful cast and monsters galore!
Also I LOVE THE ENDING SONG! WHY DID THEY HAVE TO PICK SUCH A PERFECT SONG FOR THE END CREDITS?! 😭😭😭
Senshi also has a very unhinged side with his disregard to safety despite his knowledge if it means he can cook a new monster. The best demonstration of this was when he insisted on opening the dragon which is chock full of methane. He surely knew this will explode

@@Crunchybagels I recommend it if only because the sooner you read it the less likely you are to get some of the mysteries of late game dunmeshi spoiled. There's one particular character that I think on their own is worth avoiding spoilers like the shitty store bought adventuring rations. I won't say anymore than that to avoid tainting your first experience.

The fact that you excluded The Dangers in My Heart from the list of stiff feeling animes has convinced me to watch it. I'm caught up on the manga for it, but I always felt like an anime adaptation of it would generally be pretty standard and the fact that you went out of your way to exclude it from those gives me hope so thanks!

I was so shocked at how good this animal is and by trigger studios. love them. the storyline Is so good something you'd watch as a kid and come back to it. like a cartoon network show. but it's not all fillers there's a continuation of the episodes.

It's like the author thought everything before he started drawing.... He drew finished with a good ending and left us a masterpiece
12:56 - A fan of Kui before dungeon meshi? iirc this could be the previous publication, the anthology series "Terrarium in Drawer" but could also mean earlier works. I would recommend it though for those who want to look into Kui's narrative style and more of her gorgeous art especially if you want to watch Delicious in Dungeon as an anime series first and foremost. Each story is only a chapter long with a lot of different themes and settings so I suggest reading at least up to the 3rd story before passing it up.
"Dungeon Meshi" is very different. Its even a part of the narration "dungeon food"

As someone who'd finished the manga before the anime aired, calling it a "seasonal anime" almost feels like a disservice to how good this series is. It and Frieren may be my top 2 anime/manga of all time.
