I don't think the height of magic is even a spell. My headcannon is that Frieren is so strong that she can just push her mana into an oponent and thats why fern didn't recognise it as a spell
One thing from the manga and from what I’ve gathered about Frieren is that she’s also very adept at magic inspection. Most likely because she studied under Flame and that’s what she was also really good at. Examples being her analysis of the dom in the first class test. And SPOILERS. When she was able to deconstruct the gold curse.
You missed Frieren's title "Frieren the Slayer". It's what she's called by the Demons of the series. That's one hell of a title to earn. An entire immortal species turned her into the genocidal boogie man. Also Serie uses the Flower Bed Creating Magic because it was Flamme's favorite spell. Frieren explained it to Lernen when he tried to kill her for Serie to remember him via his acomplishment. Even if it's not something she likes, she'll use it and tend to it because of it's importance to Flamme as someone who was important to her. She does this with ALL of her apprentices.
serie didnt kill DK since she herself is a warmonger and cant visualize herself ending a war. also laufen has other spells, she could extend her staff and probably enhances her physical capabilities with magic
Serie didn't kill DK simply because she couldn't, no individual is able to defeat the DK, that's why it took a team to beat him. Serie is unable to work with others like Frieren did.
@@salt7532 The DK doesn't fight alone. He has an army of powerful Demons serving him. Some of whom specialize as melee warriors. We are explicitly told later in the manga that a sufficiently skilled warrior can be a serious threat to a lone mage, and even Serie can be vulnerable to being rush attacked by a warrior and killed before she has time to react and cast a spell. Serie might be strong enough to beat the DK in a one on one magical duel, but without a well balanced party to support her, she would never be able to fight her way through the DK's army and all his various powerful subordinates to get to him.

Spoilers for anime and manga: An interesting interpretation of mine is that Frieren and Serie both show characteristic lack of emotional awareness or a disconnect between their emotional and logistical intelligence. Frieren has a hard time relating to others and it bothers her, as she does care, but the long lives of elves and reliance on logical thoughts makes her default responses unintentionally cold. You can interpret her name as a metaphor for freezing emotionally. To freeze means that you need warmth, but can also cause cold to others. Serie shows a similar character flaw, but if you look at her name, it seems more like a metaphor on numerical intelligence. On the surface, her apprentices and spells are just numbers to her. Her logical approach can make it seem like Flamme was just another apprentice to, a number among many. And then she reveals how she remembers each of the apprentices and their favorite spells. She is a collector, but she remembers each person, each spell and it is treasured, because it adds to the series. The tragedy of hers is that she keeps maintaining the series, and no one is left but her, because she outlives humans.
For serie i interpreted as this. Why she didn’t kill the demon king ? She didn’t want / couldn’t cuz she cant imagining herself living in a peacfull era for why she disliked the idea of why humans shouldn’t learn magic is imo like teaching kids quantum mechanics but they would never survive past the age of 6 so in her eyes all what they could learn in that short amount of time would never be of help in her problems they could learn simple math and other things but it would be a waste of time (atleast that how i interpreted her unwillingness to teach humans at the start cuz most humans cant do it but if one has the talent in her eyes she will do it)
Correction: Serie has only collected *most* of the spells ever created. In the anime, it had usually (if not always) specified that she has only collected most of the spells ever created rather than all of the spells ever created. Albeit, what is defined as "most" is unclear in the anime afaIk.
BTW the most powerfull mage was who built the cathacombs for the trial. This structure has absorbed all the damage of two Frierens and others and still didn't loose its integrity.
10:02 no, she isn't the only one. Frieren also uses that book a little, and it is said that any mage can use holy book, just far less efficently then priests (because it is said it takes some special talent to be a priest, and (my headcanon) I suppose mages don't really bother training using the book)
It still amuses me, that the Author choose German Words and decided to make them the names of the characters and places. Here is a list of al the names and their meanings, I have in my head right now, for those who are curious about it: Frieren = to freeze Himmel = heaven or sky Eisen = iron Heiter = it could mean sunny and cloudless weather, but also a merry or jolly person Serie = series Denken = to think Wirbel = vortex Lernen = to learn Fern = far Stark = strong Flamme = flame Kraft = strength or force Qual = agony Aura has the same meaning in both languages. Same goes for Land and Methode Richter = judge Laufen = to run Edel = noble, precious or gallant Sense = scythe Ehre = honour Scharf = sharp or precise Falsch = wrong or fake Lügner = liar Draht = wire Linie = line Kanne = jug Lawine = avalanche Übel = means sick as a condition, or bad as a personal trait.
I feel like Sersei is the perfect example of when you live long enough your mind begins to revert back childlike behavior (like a misbehaved old person lol). She’s bored and wants to be entertained, hence her disappointment in Frieren. She thinks people’s everyday wants are useless like frierens love for the flower spell. And she only values people who are striving for greatness and have the ability to be great. Great video! I love this show so much
It's interesting that out of all the mages in the series, the one mage that Frieren freely admits she could not see herself beating was Kanne of all people if Kanne had the rain to her advantage. For Frieren to acknowledge Kanne like speaks to the potential of Kanne IMO.
This is a theory, but I actually believe Lernen knows Serie is suppressing her mana, and just hasn't brought it up to her because he doesn't believe its his place to question the things she does.
Calling that ability the height of magic shows a complete misunderstanding of its nature. It's not a spell or magic at all. It's just throwing mana like a rock.
We don’t know that that is what the spells is doing, Fern (who has very advanced mana detection as evidenced by the fact she could tell Serie was surprising her mana) could not perceive it as magic or a spell, it did however involve a visible magic circle and is implied to have been used in the battle with the demon king.
Juler seems to be a melee focused mage- beyond her speed magic, she can also enhance her staff for using in melee, extending it and considering it glowed maybe do more- its unclear because that spell is countered by Melode's duplicate in the second exam stage
I feel like he didn't talk about Qual enough like he goes over him and talks about how good he was in the past but he was able to almost immediately recreate the shield spell after seeing it once and understood it weakness
Idk if it's called that later in the series but I don't think the force attack she used again fern is called "height of magic" rather I interpreted Ferns words to mean "so this is what is possible for a truly experienced mage"
I don't think they ever said that Land could only have two clones, just that it took him time to prepare a clone. How convincing a clone was might've been proportional to the amount of time he spent in preparing it. Ubel also had the ability to learn the spells of others once she could empathize with them and understood them enough. Also Sieren asked Lernen if he actually saw the fluctuations in Frieren's mana and he said he didn't but that she must be hiding her mana. Basically he did not detect Frienen's mana reduction, he deduced it which is also the case with Heiter who said it was being her companion for ten years that he believed she was hiding her mana. Also maybe it was only in the manga but Sieren said she hid her mana for a hundred years but got bored of doing so as she saw no reason to do so. Sieren also said she did try to defeat the demon lord but the demon lord was always prepared for her and evaded her attenpts, perhaps because she didn't hide her mana as much as Frienen did. Sieren also said that it was only the Demon Lord that could tell at a glance that Frienen was hiding her mana, that does not imply the Demon Lord could accurately estimate Frienen's mana capacity, just that she was hiding it, that statement also implies that perhaps Sieren may not herself be able to see that Frienen's mana fluctuated and also only deduced that Frienen hid her mana which is reasonable because she knew Flamme hid her mana and also saw Frienen when she was being trained by Flamme a thousand years ago. As to Frienen having less mana than an elf her age, Sieren did say that but it was also said that Frienen was gifted in magic for her village when she was rescued by Flamme from the destruction of her village by the demons so having less mana than expected may only have been an opinion and may have been obfuscated by Frienen's early mana hiding when being trained by Flamme. Even Frienen's training of Fern started with asking Fern to at start by trying to only show 1/10th of her mana ao there is the issue of degree to which the mana is hidden (plus Frienen captured the bird by hiding all of her mana which she could only do while staying absolutely still and the two girl mages said they didn't even know that hiding all of the mana could even be done). The way I would interpret the manga is that Lernen, and Heiter only deduced that Frienen was hiding her mana not observed it, and Sieren's evaluation of Frienen's mana capacity was from when she saw her a thousand years ago when she was first being trained by Flamme who started with just having her hide a portion of her mana, probably focusing on stability over the amount hidden so Sieren's estimate could easily be an underestimate especially if Flamme was trying to have Frienen's control be stable enough to fool Sieren by simply not hiding as much.
Not gonna lie, when I check the latest release I missed, some characters that were introduced in the empire arc means that they might be strong mages or other class since they have the goal of assassinating a certain individual.

Denken is the only student of the greatest sorcerer of his era: the Demon Sage Macht of El Dorado. Macht was so great that he kept giving his opponents chances to beat him, and it took the collaboration of the best mages (including Frieren and Denken) to eventually finally beat him. Macht threw the fight as he was subconsciously disappointed that after so many years of living with humans, he couldn't understand them, and while it seemed that Denken landed a killing blow on his master, in truth Macht simply dissipated into Gold Dust, and will likely reappear in the Manga at some point.
The sad thing is that she shouldn’t really have that much trouble getting water. It’s pretty much everywhere. As long as you aren’t in a desert, you can just pull it from the ground or atmosphere. I wonder if humidity isn’t very well understood. You can find water almost anywhere. She shouldn’t need a lake, rain, whatever. If she can control water that already exists and can’t magically summon it, that shouldn’t be a disadvantage. Unless you’re in a desert, of course. You can definitely find water there, otherwise nothing would be able to live there, it’s just very hard to get.
@@DamonnanashiI believe at this point in the world humidity isn’t understood yet and they don’t realize they can just pull it out the air, but it might be like in avatar where Hama understood she could just not why but in This anime they need to know why I believe
Isn't frieren closer to 1500 because when flamma found her she was probably already a few hundred years old then 1080-1130 years later this story occurs
I love how evident it is the theming of time in the story. Despite how strong old mages like Serie and Frieren. There are the current mages who lived a fraction of their lifetime yet is guaranteed to become as strong as them. Fern is probably the one who holds the most potential. Having been able to see the flaw in both Frieren and Serie's magical signature on top of her unnatural casting speed. Ubel's magic is the pinnacle of visualization. She could copied magic as long as she could visualize the feelings of the wielder who uses it. Land's control so far is probably the best considering he controlled his clones from MILES away. And Wirbel while having no special characteristics is the one most accustomed to battle so much so his personality towards magic mirrior Serie.
More notably, Ubel is capable of "ignore" the defensive magic inbued in things, as her visualization seems to be far more superficial or practical. Richter explains perfectly how magic works, talking about how a mage is being able to do only what they can visualize doing, and in fact Kanne isn't able to control the water in someone because, despite the human body being 70% water, no one could really visualize the single particles of water inside someone. This basically says that Ubel is a normal mage, reelseiden works just like any other magic: it does what it can if the mage can see doing it, in this case cutting cloth or trees like a scissor or saw would do. The controveristy grows when she is able to cut through indestructible objects imbued with magic (Burg mantle, Sense hair and the dungeon walls). However, since imbued magic seems "invisible", she can't really imagine not cutting a normal looking piece of cloth. This actually led me to theorize that she can't percieve magic outside her own (she didn't notice Wirbel's ambush, Fern did; and other false postives or situations she could that i am now forgetting, maybe), probably because she's more of a fighter than a mage since her combat style is more focused in close quarters, using her own staff as a polearm, in combination with reelseiden and not using defensive spells. Her spell is basically a cheat code for a fighter. For dnd her class could easily be a multiclass with warrior and sorcerer since she didn't study magic (given her poor situation) and rather just obtained by feeling it
We do know something about the Holy Emblem, actually. We know she didn't have it when she was an apprentice of Flamme and that it was old by the era of Himmel. To the point that even knowledgeable people didn't know what it was. Thus the emblem is likely from the era of Flamme or just after, and as such would only be recognized by elves or those close to one. As well, even after taking the first class mage exam Frieren shows no difficulty with the test nor does she claim it was difficult. This implies that the test/achievement to get her Holy Emblem was greater than the first class mage exam. So we can reasonably estimate that it was a symbol of the greatest mages of the era of Flamme. Fitting for one of her students to have earned.
Height of magic isnt really fully fleshed out but its understood that imstead of using magic to make your imagination reality, it uses mana to bend reality using will. Height of Magic is more than just force. Its will.
"Serie who passed him for actually having the balls to never show up to the exam" yet she disqualified the last great mage, the person with the highest demon kill count in history, the person who helped defeat the demon lord... because Frieren's favorite spell is a spell to make a field of flowers.
Technically Sense is not weak to cutting magic, its just that Ubel is special and can cut through anything she can imagine cutting, so she ignores the countless defensive spells cast on Sense's hair
I think it’s funny how not a single name in this video was pronounced correctly (I sometimes needed a second to who the character even was xD) but it is understandable and I don’t judge since all of them are just German words. Honestly it’s funny watching Frieren (freezing) and being like 'oh a diplomat named Lügner (liar) I’m sure he will be an honest and nice guy xD'
Sense may be a pacifist, but to be a pacifist you still need to defend yourself, and the best defense is a good offense I know it's a stretch but that's what i think lol
Power based i think serie can kill the demon king but like flamme said serie just can't imagine living in a peaceful world therefore she didn't want to kill the demon king and just wait for someone else did it, because peaceful is boring for her
serie didnt try to kill the demon king becuz first: without a strong opponent how does figther can progress?(the answer to that dilema is frieren herself and this is the moral of the whole manga) and 2ndly: she couldnt see herself beating him so she didnt even try. btw serie is the one true antagonist of the manga for many reason and friren wont figth her becuz theyr battle is philosophical, wich is serie weakness
Serie is not pronounced like siri its pronounced like sehrie, also ubel can cut the hair because o how she thinks, Most people who would use the same spell as ubel would never be able to cut the hair beacause it has such strong defensive spells on it
Serie's motives does not contradict her character. Flamme said it herself, the reason why Frieren is able to defeat the demon king and Serie is not is because Serie enjoys killing so much that if she destroy the tree from its roots then she wouldnt be able to reap the fruits. Shes basically just want to farm demons like an OP douche in an rpg
Serie doesn't kill the Demon King because she is a warlike mage who can't visualise slaying him and living in an era of peace. She has the necessary power but without true belief in peace, she could never truly defeat the DK. As for Serie's hypocritical attitude towards the field of flowers spell, I believe that's because she can act like an awkward tsundere who struggles to show her true emotions. Serie belittles her apprentices' achievements, stating that their abilities never came close to hers, but remembers each of their favourite spells. I initally hated Serie for acting so petty and childish towards Frieren, but in hindsight, I think she's a complex, well-written character.
Obviously, the strongest mage is Himmel, with his magic that lets him buy thousands of statues on a traveler's budget.
Well, he didn't buy them. He chose them as rewards for helping people with protection from demons and monsters.

i loved Lawine and Kanne. at a glance their designs make them look like fire and ice. Blue eyes, grey hair and red eyes and ginger hair. But they turn out to have completely compatible magic styles. cool character design.
This is what i was waiting for
I don't think the height of magic is even a spell. My headcannon is that Frieren is so strong that she can just push her mana into an oponent and thats why fern didn't recognise it as a spell
but didn't fern say something like she couldn't sense any mana when she was attacked
@@complain4163 she said that "I didn't recognise it as a spell/attack" but she didn't say anything about mana
I think so too, i think it's the force of will
One thing from the manga and from what I’ve gathered about Frieren is that she’s also very adept at magic inspection. Most likely because she studied under Flame and that’s what she was also really good at. Examples being her analysis of the dom in the first class test. And SPOILERS.
When she was able to deconstruct the gold curse.
Even without the spoiler, Frieren was also able to decipher Serie’s barrier and break it.
I loved the macht arc.
They all have so much depth, even the demons, we can see them as sympathetic psychopaths.
@@grandmanitou6563 you cant say that, we dont know how strong dk and serie is. both flamme and frieren never said that serie would lose to dk
@@adamwu4565 frieren and the hero fought the sages one by one before reaching DK's castle, what makes you think serie cant do the same?
@@adamwu4565 even if schlacht gather up all of the strong demons like he did with HoTS, serie is strong enough to escape
Where is the Best first grade? That cloak guy who mastered defense magic and died in his first apperence.
burg, the biggest fraud
That’s pretty much all the anime showed 😂, I think it’s safe to assume he was pretty cocky and mainly focused on defensive magic his whole life, also he didn’t seem too strong since he couldn’t really tell how much of a threat Ubel was
@@mrnoname5183you can't really see how much of a threat ubel is unless you're experienced in combat since mages see each other's mana pool he probably just based it out of that her magic unique to hers because of her odd way of thinking
@@CTO-f2k that’s a fair assumption, but tbf the very fact he didn’t just have the cloak hanging up somewhere or put it on a stand goes to show he really didn’t worry about getting injured at all.
Spoilers for anime and manga:
An interesting interpretation of mine is that Frieren and Serie both show characteristic lack of emotional awareness or a disconnect between their emotional and logistical intelligence.
Noice. I am so Glad you are Experimenting a little bit unlike some creators who just rides popular mainstream Anime/Manga

BTW the most powerfull mage was who built the cathacombs for the trial. This structure has absorbed all the damage of two Frierens and others and still didn't loose its integrity.
It also didn’t tighten its integrity
Imagine showing ubel an electric saw or a chain saw to help her visualise cutting through hard materials
She already damaged the stone wall and cut trees with it
what a amazing video! thank you for keep the fandom of frieren alive!
Here is a list of al the names and their meanings, I have in my head right now, for those who are curious about it:
Frieren = to freeze
Himmel = heaven or sky
Eisen = iron
Heiter = it could mean sunny and cloudless weather, but also a merry or jolly person
Serie = series
Denken = to think
Wirbel = vortex
Lernen = to learn
Fern = far
Stark = strong
Flamme = flame
Kraft = strength or force
Qual = agony
Aura has the same meaning in both languages. Same goes for Land and Methode
Richter = judge
Laufen = to run
Edel = noble, precious or gallant
Sense = scythe
Ehre = honour
Scharf = sharp or precise
Falsch = wrong or fake
Lügner = liar
Draht = wire
Linie = line
Kanne = jug
Lawine = avalanche
Übel = means sick as a condition, or bad as a personal trait.
Really hoping for a season 2. I love the art direction in this show. It reminds me a lot of Mushi-shi
I think Siri is much much stronger than freiren.... Don't they even show that Siri's supressed magic was the same amount as frieren's released one
no shit sherlock
Well yeah, Serie has about 10,000 years on Frieren, who’s only been alive for about 1,500.
Ah yes, siri
Nice thumbnail art, big improvements, very goob
I like how latest chapter of Frieren has Land and Ubel are putting on their clothes after spending their first night together.
I am betting some time in the future we will discover Ubel using clone magic after finally empathizing with Land.
you said WHAT
Oh hell nah I have to read the manga asap
Is it confirmed Land was truly there, though?
It doesn't even feel overwhelming . Would binge in two day if time went back.
Is the phrase "the height of magic" the actual canonical name?
"Height" might be metaphorical or poetic. It's magic in its purest, most distilled form. The direct use of mana itself as a weapon.
@@THEDiamoncHuntress I think that's what fern calls it when she is shellshocked and has no idea what just happened to her.
We don’t know that that is what the spells is doing, Fern (who has very advanced mana detection as evidenced by the fact she could tell Serie was surprising her mana) could not perceive it as magic or a spell, it did however involve a visible magic circle and is implied to have been used in the battle with the demon king.

It's literaly trowing manage around, the most simple spell ever
Juler seems to be a melee focused mage- beyond her speed magic, she can also enhance her staff for using in melee, extending it and considering it glowed maybe do more- its unclear because that spell is countered by Melode's duplicate in the second exam stage
you forgot to mention that the only person able to see serie's suppression was fern, that was met by a really amazed and surprised smile by serie
should be noted that "the height of magic" might be so exceptional that it cant even be considered a spell at all
äußerst is pronounced Oy-serst btw
And i had no idea that that word means "extremely"
chris is hopping onto a new trend🗿🗿
I feel like he didn't talk about Qual enough like he goes over him and talks about how good he was in the past but he was able to almost immediately recreate the shield spell after seeing it once and understood it weakness
Also said Aura was the strongest demon we saw when I feel like he is way better ngl
Sounds like Serie is just hungry for more spells and knows that strife leads to innovation
i know so much about this anime without watching a single episode

I know nothing of this series but Ubel's constant smug smile in every scene I've seen her in makes me furious.

Not gonna lie, when I check the latest release I missed, some characters that were introduced in the empire arc means that they might be strong mages or other class since they have the goal of assassinating a certain individual.

unamed demon who was with revolte 2: can make whirlwind slashes
unamed demon who was with revolte 3 : all we know is they can shape shift to look a like a human
divine revolte a general under the demon king can: make magical sword that shift there weight to be as hard as a rock or be very light
schlaght is a sage of destruction who can see into the future an mutipule different futures

"You're a man, are you not?" Denkle spitting straight FIRE
Denken is the only student of the greatest sorcerer of his era: the Demon Sage Macht of El Dorado. Macht was so great that he kept giving his opponents chances to beat him, and it took the collaboration of the best mages (including Frieren and Denken) to eventually finally beat him. Macht threw the fight as he was subconsciously disappointed that after so many years of living with humans, he couldn't understand them, and while it seemed that Denken landed a killing blow on his master, in truth Macht simply dissipated into Gold Dust, and will likely reappear in the Manga at some point.
Nice zelda spirit track song at 9:30
its weird to think in an anime about a mages journey we have only seen 25 mages
25 mages in 26 episodes is kind of a lot
Poor poor TON you just see moments of him just suffering alone. Im glad he made it out though
12:30, bro she gotta carry some water bottles or something. what is she gonna do in a desert or a place without much water bruh its cooked
Series could definitely defeat the Demon King... and become an even worse Demon Goddess lol
For dnd her class could easily be a multiclass with warrior and sorcerer since she didn't study magic (given her poor situation) and rather just obtained by feeling it
I wonder why i clicked on this video🤔
9:10 Dengen, obviously not one of the physically fit mage.
Showing him literally having a fist fight even after depleting his mana.
Its will.
I like how you are doing different anime instead of just glazing 2-3 popular anime
"Serie who passed him for actually having the balls to never show up to the exam"
yet she disqualified the last great mage, the person with the highest demon kill count in history, the person who helped defeat the demon lord...
because Frieren's favorite spell is a spell to make a field of flowers.
She held a grudge a bit too strongly
Technically Sense is not weak to cutting magic, its just that Ubel is special and can cut through anything she can imagine cutting, so she ignores the countless defensive spells cast on Sense's hair
I think it’s funny how not a single name in this video was pronounced correctly (I sometimes needed a second to who the character even was xD) but it is understandable and I don’t judge since all of them are just German words.

serie didnt try to kill the demon king becuz first: without a strong opponent how does figther can progress?(the answer to that dilema is frieren herself and this is the moral of the whole manga) and 2ndly: she couldnt see herself beating him so she didnt even try. btw serie is the one true antagonist of the manga for many reason and friren wont figth her becuz theyr battle is philosophical, wich is serie weakness

Shes basically just want to farm demons like an OP douche in an rpg
its less « explained » and more « presented »
Why you didnt read the manga
To attract a larger audience, cause a lot of people don't like spoilers ❤️
Serie doesn't kill the Demon King because she is a warlike mage who can't visualise slaying him and living in an era of peace. She has the necessary power but without true belief in peace, she could never truly defeat the DK.
As for Serie's hypocritical attitude towards the field of flowers spell, I believe that's because she can act like an awkward tsundere who struggles to show her true emotions. Serie belittles her apprentices' achievements, stating that their abilities never came close to hers, but remembers each of their favourite spells.
I initally hated Serie for acting so petty and childish towards Frieren, but in hindsight, I think she's a complex, well-written character.
i can do that same magic using science 😂
