With some slight eq tweaks these are a great budget option. You are correct about the bass, but they do better than most at their budget - they only go down to about 70hz. I would say at the $500 mark you could go to genelec 8010a which are small and sound great. You should review more genelec speakers.
I have had these for a month now, agreed that with a flat EQ they are ok but very minimal tweaks makes them sound so great. could u review the kanto yu2? its a tiny speaker like the iloud and the vanatoo. I feel like for small desktop speakers the iloud and the vanatoo are outside of a lot of people's price range while the yu2 can be found around $180
When I play a 50 - 120Hz tone the speaker with the amplifier in it doesn't produce a pure tone but the other does, they sound different at those frequencys. One sounds distorted. Does your's not do that? I mean, the music sounds good to me so maybe its not a big deal.
Hey Z, how do these compare to Vanatoo Transparent Zero? I know it's a different price category, but I would like to know how big is the difference if there is any.
Can you please do a review of the Mackie CR3-XBT studio monitors? I recently got a pair that I am using for rear speakers in my surround sound. I think they sound amazing considering they only cost $130 for the pair.
Do you hear his sound from these? I would use them as pc speakers, but if they are making sound all the time and especially when nothing is playing (or breaks during speech) that is a total dealbreaker for me.
Neither the r1700 or MR4 is all that much of a big upgrade from the r1280, if you got them for a good price might as well keep them. Same goes for r1380 etc, the upgrades are incremental, like the tweeter is a little better.
Hey, I just bought the argon audio forte a4, those are quite epic bookshelf speakers, active and bluetooth aptx only. For chromecast, airplay and spotify connect, they have the agron audio solo, a streaming hub, 250$ tho. I’ll probably use toslink from the tv and my k9pro with rca out to the set. And now forget all of the above, I just wanna make you aware of the danish brand argon audio, they make epic budget friendly hifi.
Hmmm... I think i'll stick with the Vanatoo T1 Encore. on a desk. ... yes i'm crazy. What are you saying you can't put T1 Encores on a desk?? They came in cherry! My desk is made out of Cherry wood! Don't look at me like that, I had to do it!
As already mentioned 3.5mm to RCA works for connecting these speakers to a computer. To step things up put a DAC in between the computer and the speakers. A USB dongle DAC like the Fiio x Jade Audio KA1 is a cheap solution, USB C (with adapter to A) in, 3.5mm out. It retails for $50, I was able to get it on sale for $32. Regarding connecting to a sub, find one that has low level in and out RCA connectors. Connect your analog source to the sub RCA inputs, connect the RCA outputs from the sub to the speakers.
I had these for a short time and even though they sounded great, at lower volumes they kind of miss more detail than other speakers and since I also watch videos a lot with lower volumes, it is getting hard understanding speech.
What did you go for instead? I think I'll still buy those, I need lower volume at night but now crazy low so I wonder if it will keep enough details in my use case.
@@TomatePasFraiche I am kind of on a journey still. Most other options I tried where more expensive though. Anyways my impression on the ones I had is as follows: MR4: My favourite for music at higher volumes. Sounds very natural and balanced. Just lacks detail at lower volumes (the sound will get diffused more) iloud micros: Sounded great, good detail, good bass (I suggest using the LF -3db switch), just sound a bit plasticy, acoustic instruments don't shine on them. Still great for movies and electronic music. Audioengine A2+: Good detail, great for music, sound almost natural. Sadly they have a very slow bass driver and you can hear that, also lack bass. Genelec 8010: Best for detail, don't have lots of bass and sound kind of 2D. Instruments feel a bit metallic in a sense, like the driver is too fast for certain instruments. I currently own the AudioEngine A2+ but probably not for much longer. From the ones I tried I think the ilouds where the best in all honesty.
@@pasi123567 I think there is no way around it, we'll need a subwoofer to complement any of those speakers. For this reason you might still enjoy your A2+ in the future potentially? I feel that, because of my price point and since I'm not going to mix or do any work with those, I might as well go for the MR4 since you confirmed that they are very musical and this is all that I need from them. Thank you for sharing your thoughts 👌
@@TomatePasFraiche Yeah a subwoofer is something thats needed sooner or later on any of them, but both the MR4 and iloud micro do have much better bass extension than both the Genelec and A2+. And even with that the A2+ actually has just a tad more bass than the Genelec but the bass still sounds much slower, sloppy in a sense which is something I really dislike. For music the MR4 is definitely the best choice.
Planning on doing something similar with my SMSL DO100. I have the HO100 with it for headphones and it still pushes audio through the 1/4” even when it’s using XLR, so I can hotswap between RCA out from the DAC for these and XLR out to the HO100 even with my headphones that don’t have the option for balanced.
I really would like to say fuck the algorithm and stick with the long form videos. Those are the ones I like the best but it’s probably not best for you. Sucks. Does anyone know what would happen if you did just a bunch of short like sub-30 second “previews” and then continue with the regular 30 - 40 min vids for the actual review? Would that bump you up?

could u review the kanto yu2? its a tiny speaker like the iloud and the vanatoo. I feel like for small desktop speakers the iloud and the vanatoo are outside of a lot of people's price range while the yu2 can be found around $180
SU SU SUDIO....just say the word, Z !
When I play a 50 - 120Hz tone the speaker with the amplifier in it doesn't produce a pure tone but the other does, they sound different at those frequencys. One sounds distorted. Does your's not do that? I mean, the music sounds good to me so maybe its not a big deal.
Would this be a major upgrade over the Micca MB42X?
yes
Hey Z, how do these compare to Vanatoo Transparent Zero? I know it's a different price category, but I would like to know how big is the difference if there is any.
is mr4 good for a tv-small living room solution?
For budget these or an swan m10 plus?
These are $80 US Amazon - Nov 24
Yes Just Bought A Pair Today
What stands are those? Look really nice!
A pair of Rockville. amzn.to/3PCArmp
How do these compare to the Jamo S 803 (for nearfield)?
Output Frontier. I like those.
What sub could/would you pair these to?
Can you please do a review of the Mackie CR3-XBT studio monitors? I recently got a pair that I am using for rear speakers in my surround sound. I think they sound amazing considering they only cost $130 for the pair.
I may get one of these now,,,, thax for the review,,,, BTW who play that song that will demonetize the video?? it sounds GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got them for 80$ and were actually surprised that they are pretty decent for a pc speakers.
How does it fair with Swans m10.. pls suggest..
Senjou best girl 😎
How are these compared to the jbl 104 ?
Do you hear his sound from these? I would use them as pc speakers, but if they are making sound all the time and especially when nothing is playing (or breaks during speech) that is a total dealbreaker for me.
I bought one. When not plugged in(just plug in the power). it gets noise at high volume. :(
can someone what he said about pluggig a sub with these MR4's In details please

How do you feel sbout these a yr after your video ?
Hello Z can you do review on edifier r1280dbs?
Will we get a review of Edifier Stax Spirit S3 headphones?
And they only cost like 80 bucks in China, msrp. I'm sure on 6.18 or 11.11 they can be have for 60 bucks.
Is the Edifier R2850DB worth it?
how are these vs kanto yu 4 ?
How do they compare to the Vanatoo T Zeros
Probably image a bit better. Those do the bass for days tho.
Should I return my 1280db's? I got them on prime day for like 140ish...
Everyone loves those too. I don't think you need to fret.
Neither the r1700 or MR4 is all that much of a big upgrade from the r1280, if you got them for a good price might as well keep them. Same goes for r1380 etc, the upgrades are incremental, like the tweeter is a little better.
What if i don't have any of them???
What speaker have the superior sound quality? 1700bt or mr4?
Is it good for music production?
I think these are the same size as their s880db. What do you think of those sir?
What is the best (and hopefully equally cheap) way to hook these up to a computer?
@@scorpioassmodeusgtx1811 Hmm true, what about something that gives the option to add a sub?
As already mentioned 3.5mm to RCA works for connecting these speakers to a computer. To step things up put a DAC in between the computer and the speakers. A USB dongle DAC like the Fiio x Jade Audio KA1 is a cheap solution, USB C (with adapter to A) in, 3.5mm out. It retails for $50, I was able to get it on sale for $32. Regarding connecting to a sub, find one that has low level in and out RCA connectors. Connect your analog source to the sub RCA inputs, connect the RCA outputs from the sub to the speakers.
is this better than audioengine a2+ for desktop speaker?
Love this review 😄 entertainment+ just got the speakers too. Looking forward to trying them out!
How do edifier compare to iLoud Micro?
oooooooooooooo you killing me. Both are exceptional. PROBABLY these... The Micro's if you are taking them places.
heyy! love the video, rn i have spare money and i saw them on marketplace for 75 bucks, should i buy them?
You should
Edifier MR4 vs Sony SSCS5...........which is better..........please help me choose one
Edifier. Go my child. Be happy
@@ZReviews 🙂
I had these for a short time and even though they sounded great, at lower volumes they kind of miss more detail than other speakers and since I also watch videos a lot with lower volumes, it is getting hard understanding speech.
What did you go for instead?
I think I'll still buy those, I need lower volume at night but now crazy low so I wonder if it will keep enough details in my use case.
@@TomatePasFraiche I am kind of on a journey still. Most other options I tried where more expensive though. Anyways my impression on the ones I had is as follows:
MR4:
My favourite for music at higher volumes. Sounds very natural and balanced. Just lacks detail at lower volumes (the sound will get diffused more)
iloud micros:
Sounded great, good detail, good bass (I suggest using the LF -3db switch), just sound a bit plasticy, acoustic instruments don't shine on them. Still great for movies and electronic music.
Audioengine A2+:
Good detail, great for music, sound almost natural. Sadly they have a very slow bass driver and you can hear that, also lack bass.
Genelec 8010:
Best for detail, don't have lots of bass and sound kind of 2D.
These seem like a great pairing for an SMSL SU-6 as a source. Gives you good clean signal and a nice, easy to control interface with a remote.
Can i feed these with an ifi zen dac? Can i do it without losing the headphone output on the zen?
via balanced output
@@olegkushnir7735 rca out will work too?
I really would like to say fuck the algorithm and stick with the long form videos. Those are the ones I like the best but it’s probably not best for you. Sucks. Does anyone know what would happen if you did just a bunch of short like sub-30 second “previews” and then continue with the regular 30 - 40 min vids for the actual review? Would that bump you up?
I mean YT shorts are a thing. I was trying to do 2 a week but its hard to figure out what to film.
