I think this movie is universally loved by everyone, one of those rare films that you just can’t help but love

When Forrest asks if his son is smart or…and indicates to himself. That’s a masterclass in acting. The way he knows that he’s been aware of his condition but doesn’t let it bother him. We all need to look at the world more like Forrest.
Hey waRr3nxx, I agree! Tom Hanks did Amazing playing Forrest Gump! I also love Tom Hanks in Saving Private Ryan and The Green Mile (Not sure if you've seen those movies)? As far as Forrest Gump goes, I find this movie to be very Inspirational and Personally, I often connect with this movie because my brother actually has Autism (So Forrest and my brother can relate a bit since they are both disabled).

When I was a kid I hated Jenny for breaking Forrest’s heart. As the years went on and I learned about sexual abuse survivors and the toll that takes on their life I became way, way more understanding and sympathetic towards her. She was lost. Her abusive father affected so many lives because of his actions. Poor girl.
Well put and I am guilty of bashing on Jenny in my younger years as well. I can't imagine the amount of shit Jenny would get if she would have married Forrest when he proposed. He is a millionaire and a 'simple' but amazing guy, add a kid on to that it does not look good for Jenny. It's easy to say what is right or wrong in this story, but there is a underlining message in it that is an obscurity in itself. If you married a mentally impaired, highly successful millionaire there is always going to be someone who would claim that you took advantage, even if they didn't know the background. I hope I haven't come off as insincere, but it is a fabric woven into our society, and many others.
when you look at her life, Jenny got with dangerous scary people and doing drugs... She didn't want Forrest to be in that. He was too innocent and good. I think she didn't feel good enough to be with him until later and she made her peace just like lieutenant Dan did.
When your dropping acid and sleeping around; selfishly, it's easy to not take responsibility, doesn't matter if you are a survivor or not. Jenny didn't do on to others as she did herself. For that, even if Forrest didn't run the country, she still would have not told him about their child right away. I grew up with people who did drugs and never took responsibility for their problems. I guess I'm the wrong person to give an opinion on jenny.
Uh yeah you are lol also Jenny didn’t keep it from him if you’ve forgotten Forrest went running for years afterwards so he never got any of her letters about her being pregnant bcuz he kept on running w/o stopping to stay anywhere so there was no way for her to reach him but for her to just wait for him to stop running and go back home to see her letters and so he finally did and that’s why he was was waiting at the bus stop he finally saw her letters.

Not the selfish Jenny I witnessed. Many times she disrespected Forrest including staying with that commie bastard after he smacked her up at that rally and leaving forrest behind like a dummy. The more it is dawning on me how shitty she really acted towards good ol Forrest but I guess she has a pass.
You two are so astute. I love your attention to detail and human emotion. Most RUclips reactors don’t understand Jenny’s trauma makes her self sabotage her relationship with Forrest and she doesn’t believe she deserves him. Also, Forrest’s running is therapeutic. He’s putting the past behind him. I love this reaction to my favorite movie.
I read a comment in one of these reactions that said that he started running all over the country because he just had had sex so his hormones/mind where going crazy and needed a physical outlet. Makes sense and I can't believe I never realized it.

I love how you both understood where Jenny was coming from and empathized with her. Forrest Gump has got to be the most pure hearted character ever. Beautiful reaction!🥰🥰
When Forrest goes to the White House for the 3rd time, President Nixon arranges for him to stay at a much nicer hotel, and Forrest reports some people using flashlights in the dark office building next door. This is a reference to the "Watergate" break-in, when people working to get Nixon re-elected broke into the headquarters of the Democratic party in the Watergate building. Nixon's role in trying to cover up the break-in led to his resignation a couple years later. You see him announcing the resignation on TV, but of course Forrest doesn't register any of that.
This was the only piece of history in the movie I didn't understand and I appreciate this clarification. Thank you!

Basically, every major social event in Forrest lifetime seems to be somehow affected by him in some way.
The greatest irony of that historical moment is most people actually predicted even without the corruption and cheating Nixon was predicted to win reelection. But he screwed himself over for being paranoid an corrupt.

"Forrest Gump" is an extraordinary creation from beginning to end. Credit to Hanks for bringing such a unique character to life on the screen.

This was my first time watching you two and have to say you are lovely and amazing. Most reactors get mad at Jenny, but you understood her issues. And Forrest running "anywhere and nowhere" as you said was what inspired me to pause the video and write this. I had never heard that before, but couldn't think of a simpler and better way to put it. Best wishes on your future endeavors.
When Jenny says to the cabbie that she's not running, she's telling the truth...She's going off to find herself a new life and make herself into someone who can not only love Forrest and deserve his love but also love herself. Of course, little Forrest probably helped a lot too.
These young ladies were the firs reactors I ever saw who understood Jenny at the very first.
First thing I do with Forrest Gump reactions is check the comments to see the Jenny situation. If they will be hating on Jenny, I won’t be watching it. Like Jenny owed anything to anyone - no she didn’t. So, hopefully this turns out good 🤞🏻

The more Forrest chased after Jenny, the more she ran. Being loved purely was such a foreign and unfamiliar thing to her. I came across this often in my life.
What a great reaction! You guys are one of the few reactors that got that Jenny was afraid she would ruin Forrest's' life and thats why she wouldn't go with him. Only when she was dying and needed someone to take care of her kid did she go with him. Jenny was actually a good woman that cared about Forrest a lot and was looking out for him by not being with him.
We live in a world full of people who only think about themselves and just don’t “get it”. You two GET IT! You’re both very intelligent and have hearts of gold. Don’t let this world taint you, continue to be good human beings just like Forest ❤
11:50 -- one of my favorite transitions. The first woman was completely closed up and occupied with a book when Forrest started talking, then halfway through she was looking up from her book to listen. Now, she's semi-invested in the story but needs to go, all the same. The next woman, with the kid, not only moves closer to Forrest but continues the conversation about George Wallace. From this point on, we understand that Forrest wasn't ever bothering anyone when he was talking; they were drawn into his story. Very smoothly done.
It might seems like Forrest accomplished everything effortlessly, but I don't see it that way, he was persistent, focused and committed to everything he decided to do. Even if everyone around said that it was stupid, he was still pushing through. Was he lucky? Yeah, but every time the luck came he was ready. And that, I think, is one of the lessons this movie teaches us.
It's a testament to our Scientists and Doctors that we no longer immediately think of AIDS when a character says they have an incurable disease. That scene with Jenny was crystal clear to audiences when this came out.
They didn't get Watergate, either. I think it's just time moves on. Things old people think are indelible, are ephemeral.
The author said he meant for it to be Hepatitis C, but concedes that AIDS worked in context in the movie.

This is the first reaction I've seen where there was no Jenny bashing. It was a very non judgemental acessment of her character.
There are a few others out there, but they're definitely the minority.
I've loved Jenny my whole life (as I've been watching this movie since early childhood, and I love the theme of a lifelong (from childhood) love companion), but I can understand, especially now well into adulthood, why people would definitely disapprove of her behavior and the way she treats Gump. It's not the nicest way for her to be, but it is realistic and makes sense based on her father's behavior. That being said, I remain satisfied that she eventually marries him and gives him a son.
One of the very, very, very few channels that understood the tone of this movie to a T. "Unconditional love" - no one has ever got that part of the story. It _is_ what the whole movie is about, and what it looks like, and how bad we fail at it. From the moment he saw her on the bus, it was over for him, but it didn't faze him (much) and he continued to live his life to the highest standard. Nailed Jenny's situation perfectly too. Along with the awesome editing (leaving his whole monologue reaction in at the end is a beautiful thing), this was just a great reaction to watch - thanks!

I've watched this film a hundred times and as a 50 yr old guy......I still have tears.......this is how good this film is......I love the way you ladies reacted....a lovely review and please do more...a beautiful review by 2 beautiful women...thankyou xxxx
You're so right. Jenny was raised to believe she was only worthy of beatings and sexual abuse. When you're abused that young, it really puts some deep, deep scars in your psyche. It's why she kept finding guys that hurt her and making excuses for them, like the guy that pounced on her in the car in college (you can hear her yell "OW!", even if she claimed he wasn't hurting her), and the guy at the Black Panther party who slapped her. That was all she thought she deserved.
Finally someone watching this who understands the whole point of Jennys actions. Her running/flying away is her attempt to protect Forrest because she thinks she is too 'messed up' from CSA and trauma to be with someone as pure as him. And Forrest running is his self-therapy to cope with PTSD. Most people just view this stuff as quirky jokes or can only see the surface level meaning and I think thats sad. Jennys character might be the most complex and realistic portrayal of childhood abuse and what it does to a person. Theres a lot of deeper meaning in this movie thats intentionally obscured by the perspective of Forrest as narrator. Its your job as the viewer to see beyond and infer the whole meaning of the situations he is put in.

I finally realize what the feather represents. He has a moment at Jennys gravesite questioning his purpose or if he’s just floating around without one but the feather seemed to follow him representing his purpose of actually “floating around” and just being him. Sometimes your purpose is to exist. Such a beautiful movie man. Also to point out. Jenny most likely passed from AIDS with it being the 80s when no one knew what it was or how to treat it, hence when she said “the doctors didn’t know what it was” and toward the end when she passed there was a flock of birds flying over her grave that you guys may have missed representing the bird she always wanted to be. So beautiful. And great reaction!
Also lastly, forgot to add. So awesome that y’all caught on to the running scene. It actually took me until later in life to understand the meaning behind him running for so long. Running represented running from your problems instead of facing it. He always ran because Jenny told him to, and in every scene of him running, he ran when times got hard and it works until it doesn’t and Jenny learned that herself, because she ran from her issues, but not physically. But when he was really messed up when Jenny left him he ran, and ran and ran. Until he realized that wasn’t going to solve anything.
Great comment. But Jenny died from hep C, which is a needle user disease. It wasn't AIDS.
@Rahab111222 Diseases that are spread through needles include: HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C. So it’s very possible. But no way to actually know unless this was confirmed by the writers/cast
@FrankieB don't know what the writer intended.. I always used to think it was AIDS too.. but the director did say that it was from hep C
The guy who wrote the book says it’s hepatitis C but the movie director says it was aids. I go with the book authors explanation. Because if she has aids so does Forrest.
@@23rascel this is true. I completely agree with your thesis. I still think it could be up in the air though. Because Forrest May still have aids but considering Jenny has had it longer she would have died from it sooner. But considering the authors perspective. I would agree with that side more
I saw this movie in the theater when it first came out. It's was the first and only time that I've ever seen a theater audience give a standing ovation for a movie.
Your guys' reaction was amazing. You caught so many of the details that a lot of people overlook, especially when it came to the relationship between Forrest and Jenny. My personal favourite aspect of the film is the character development and redemption of Lt. Dan. In his very first appearance, he makes it clear he values two things above all else: his feet and his men. He also makes it clear he intends to die in Vietnam. Not only does Forrest prevent his death, but he loses his legs and most of his men, too, sending him spiralling into an existential, self-loathing pit of despair.
Ultimately, Forrest's unyielding consistency of character is what helps him to climb out of that pit, just like Forrest did for Jenny. I like to think that even the little line about his legs being made of the same material as the space shuttle is because Lt. Dan also promised to become an astronaut if Forrest became a captain, but that promise was impossible to keep. He also married a Vietnamese woman, symbolising his full closure from his time in the Vietnam War. None of these things would have happened without Forrest's help and constant friendship.
Also, you guys are the first reactors I've seen that actually noticed that all of Forrest's letters were returned, which I think is pretty cool. Most people think Jenny sent a ton of replies.
Forrest Gump is also one of my favorite movies. I first watched it much younger, and then again a few years later, and yet again a few years later. Everytime I watch it, I find that it hits differently. As I get older and gain different experience and understanding, I see the movie and its characters in a different light. But it never fails to captivate. It's just such a great, deep movie for all its simplicity.

Forrest's story is full of actual historical events, such as in regards to politics, JFK, GovWallace, LBJ, & Nixon. Nixon set him up in the WatergateHotel, he sees the Republican operatives breaking in to the Dem headquarters, and calls the cops... Their arrest that night eventually caused Nixon to resign for various crimes, like the break-in!
The beauty of this film is watching it when you’re 15 and finding the humour more than anything and now in my 40’s I appreciate the more emotional elements. It’s the only film I know that can say that. 10/10

Great Reaction! I can't believe you two understood Jenny. That is very, very, rare. You showed her the compassion that she deserved and not the hate that she always gets. You were right on the money. She doesn't think she deserves someone as good as Forrest. And she trying to outrun her pain.
And remember Forrest wasn't home for almost 4 years. Jenny had no way of getting in touch with him.
This is probably my favorite movie, I know every line it never gets old. This movie somehow helped me learn and cope through culture shock when I had just moved to America as a teen.

Your reaction was the absolute best reaction I have seen (and I have seen a LOT) when it came to Jenny. You were not hateful. You were kind and understanding of why she acted the way she did. Each time, she never thought she would see him again, which is why she left the Medal of Honor. She didn't want to hurt him anymore. She tried, but he was her touchstone and she had to come back over and over again for those moments of peace and balance. Thank you both so so so much for your thoughtful and beautiful responses to the movie. My tears fall with yours.

Here in Canada a man named Terry Fox ran across Canada 🇨🇦 with 1 good leg and a prospetic leg and they have him on our loonies, they have a bronze statue of him in Ottawa Ontario and they have a run called the Terry Fox run and other stuff.

You hit on something most people miss: Why did Jenny keep Little Forrest secret from Big Forrest for so long? Because Big Forrest had been running all over the country for three years, which is how old Little Forrest is supposed to be here. Once he stopped running, that was when she contacted him.

4:45 -- that's Kurt Russell doing the voice of Elvis. He played Elvis in a TV movie about 40-45 years ago.
Speaking from experience, as someone who has been the Forrest to someone else's Jenny, people usually misjudge Jenny and put too much blame on her plate for not being "better" for her childhood friend. Just because a relationship is mega-important to ONE person, that doesn't mean the other person owes them equal participation in the relationship. We're all "drifting in our orbits to a brief eclipse," as the man says. Jenny had her own stuff to work out, and for an unfortunately long time, she didn't avail herself of the stability that Forrest could provide. That was her situation, and that's just how she had to work it out.
Plus, not for nothing, but Jenny and Forrest both had to do their own kind of "running" for a few years. Jenny's need to run simply lasted longer than Forrest's, but she eventually came around. Sometimes people just need distance and time.
Hey Ryl and Tyn you gals were so taken back by the movie and the life that Forrest lived. Forrest, in his SIMPLICITY, represents everything we COULD be if we just make the best of everything life gives us. -------- Obviously, he's so good-natured that he's almost too good to be true. ------- What makes this movie amazing is its ability to make you laugh, be scared, cry, cheer, and be angry all in the space of 3-4 minutes. -------- "Forrest Gump is one of the only movies I've seen ever to pull this feat off so successfully.

Thank you for letting me cry with you. My comment for this movie is that most movies follow the character arc of the protagonist. This movie didn't do that. This movie let us know how the protagonist changed the arcs of the people around him , primarily Jenny and Lt. Dan. It is beautiful

Thank you, you ladies made me cry all over again. There’s not that many young people who know the historical context of the movie, but you two were on top of it throughout. I really appreciate that. I also really like your take that Forrest flowed through life, not fighting the current but still doing amazing things.
Oh man. When Forrest meets Forrest Jr. and asks if he's smart or is he like him, it chokes me up every time! If you like whimsical southern movies like this, check out Big Fish. It's got quite a cast, has some funny moments, and will tug on your heart strings, too.
EVERYONE cries during this movie. I'VE seen it too many times to count. But i really enjoyed this viewing with you guys. Another real tear-jerker is "Amazing Grace and Chuck" with Jaimie Lee Curtis. Everyone cries in the final scene...even the actors during filming. A must see classic for anyone who ever played Little League baseball or has a son who played, but the movie is not about baseball.
Nice reaction ladies. You got all the key parts. The grave site scene at the end is one of the hardest to watch in movies. A true classic.
The scene The ppl in the hotel w flashlights was depicting Watergate. A major scandal involving President Nixon. It caused him to resign and thats where he said the famous line “I am not a crook”. Forest was the one that alerted police🤣😂. This movie places him in the midst of almost every major cultural event throughout that timeline.
It's hinted at in the film, due to the time it happens and her explanation, that Jenny has contracted HIV from one or more of her sexual partners and/or hard drugs, such as heroin. She had a very tough life, and making sure her son had family after her death was her priority. She never believed she deserved happiness, and knew that Forrest was the best, kindest and most dependable person she knew.
Hey K. S. K! Forrest Gump is a movie that when I saw it at a younger age, I did Not understand how Jenny was also "running" but Not in the literal sense like Forrest did. I guess the contrast between Jenny's path and Forrest's path is what makes this story so special! For me Personally, I often connect with this movie because my brother actually has Autism (So Forrest and my brother can relate a bit since they are both disabled).
I also just wanted to mention that I actually posted a video on my RUclips channel that is almost like a tribute video to Forrest Gump (though I called it a Mashup). You see, there's a band named Family Of The Year, and they used their hit song "Hero" for Richard Linklater's 2014 movie called Boyhood. For my video, I used "Hero" as background music while showing various scenes from Forrest Gump.

the ULTIMATE bittersweet movie. To me one of the strongest elements are the understated remarks from Forrest.

I love it guys that you called Jenny a "runner too". I never heard of that from other reaction videos, and I totslly agree.
Same thing about Forrest being in the spectrum. You're the only ones who noticed that.
The theme of it is about running, and how you approach problems. Do you run towards it and face it or do you run away when things start to unravel?
The subtle little gesture Tom Hanks makes at 55.24 must be one of the most brilliant acting performances in cinematic history (watch it in the movie to see it better). The perfect expression of appreciation for the deep richness of shared history and shared growth. And of the warm, welcoming feeling towards the loyal friend you shared it with.
I am convinced Gary Sinise's reaction caught on film right after it was only partly acted.
I think that's the joyful expression of an actor blown away by the genius of the moment, gratefully riding along on it's flow.
That must have felt like a gift to him.
An old friend once said to me "everything lead to this", when we shared a blessed moment amongst ourselves.
That remark totally describes this scene for me, and how Hanks played it. Gold!

Hey Jyn and Ryl, the feather does go wherever the wind blows. Life took forrest in so many different direction just like a feather in the wind, but no matter where he ended up he would make the most of it and live his life to the max that he could. -------- The feather is also a reflection of the lives that Jenny and Forrest lived. ------- Your life can be directionless just blowing in the wind or a box of chocolates, where you enjoy the ups and downs along the journey. ------- The "winds" took them in very different directions but they somehow managed to find each other later in life and were able to be together. Even if it was just for a brief time.
He had great mumma, who taught him commonsense so he would make good choices. He learned what really matters in life, he just accepted what came and learned to get on with living. It was so nice that he ended up with a smart son to continue having loved ones as he grew older. His son will benefit from grandma's simple sense too, having a lot of money when he grows up.
I've never seen your channel before but I had to click because this movie is EPIC and always touches everyone who watches it, if it doesn't touch you then you don't have a soul. It was so touching to see how much it touched both of your hearts. Thank you for showing your true pure emotions while watching this and not hiding them or trying to play it cool. It's nice to know that the same moments that send my emotions off are the same ones that got to your hearts as well. It's a very sad, happy, touching movie that everyone should experience at least once, and THANK YOU for paying such close attention to it, and for truly understanding the nuances in it! I'm so happy to see how you two instantly understood Jenny and why she treated Forrest the way she did, understanding that her abuse in her childhood made her feel not worthy of his love and only worthy of the horrible men she kept winding up with, because that's what she was taught as a child being abused by her father. It's sad but it's nice to see that she finally realized after having Forrest Jr. that she WAS worthy of his love and she didn't want to run from him anymore like she had done her whole life. It just was sadly too little too late. The virus she had was Hepatitis C which they didn't have a cure for at that time in history. Most people think it was AIDS but the original author has said this is NOT true. Thank you for your reaction again, I've subbed and liked the video. Looking forward to more reactions!

It's nice to see your correction about the use of "won" in the context of the Congressional Medal. I've noticed that many movie-watchers at RUclips say "won" when a character receives a military medal for valor, bravery, being wounded, that kind of thing: there is not a _competition_ for that kind of medal, and it's nice that you recognize it and conclude that there must be a better verb than "won".

This is one of my all time favourite films.
You two have this movie down cold and you don't realize it. "He's a winner at life..." and he doesn't get distracted from what's right in front of him. A big theme of the movie is the tension in life between being a "feather in the wind," and a life of destiny. Forrest just lived his life the best he could. If you do that, you'll win, too!
There are all kinds of movies that have really great 'feels'. You should try the 2003 western, "Open Range". You two would love it.

Yes! This is exactly right and so many people don't understand this and give a lot of undeserved hate to Jenny. Many people in her situation - sexually abused as children which leads them into a lifestyle of drug use and promiscuity - end up having very low self esteem and dangerous lifestyles. She knew this and didn't want to burden Forrest with that. That's why she finally was able to have a normal relationship with him later on, once she had cleaned up her life. Her past life of drug use and sexual behavior are also why she ended up getting sick: According to the screenwriter she died of AIDS, which fits that profile and also the timeline of the early eighties, which is when she died in the movie. (In the book she dies of hepatitis).
I remember seeing this movie for the first and believing Jenny had gotten AIDS. It was during this time period when they weren't sure what it was exactly and there was no real treatment for it. It claimed many lives.
You two have a very different and unique take on this film. You match my take on some things, such as Gump's reaction to the first integrated Black students at the University of Alabama. I'll have to check more of your reaction videos.

Whenever I watch the scene where Forest discovers his son, I know why Tom Hanks won the Academy Award for his performance. So great his acting throughout all the film.
My son is 43 yrs old and has autism. My wife and I both saw this movie when it came out and also saw similarities in our son and Forrest that made us laugh and love him even more.

I think this movie teaches us about loyalty, no body endures it, except forest, that curse of being not smart is also a blessing
Everything Forrest achieved came from his mom not overprotecting him, or cuddling him- imagine if she would’ve allowed him into a special school & if she would’ve been a ‘mama bear’… Forrest would’ve grown up convinced he was special, always under someone’s eye, on some kind of medication, reliant on everyone, he wouldn’t of achieved anything & probably died in some institution-
Moms like Forrest are rare but truly angles
