    I have two theories that differ from this.
    1. Armand turned Daniel not out of revenge towards Daniel but out of spite towards Louis. Like, "Oh you like this guy so much? Lets see if you still like him after a hundred years of him annoying you."
    2. Armand couldn't control his anger at Daniel, attacked him anyway, and then had to change him as a life saving measure out of fear of what Louis would do if Daniel died.

    For Daniel to be the first person Armand ever turns and he turned him outa spite is just bonkers to me. He isn't done trying to control Louis. He's gonna try to manipulate him through Daniel. Armand hates daniel's guts for outwitting him, coming between he and Louis, and being so important to Louis that he couldn't punish him like he wanted to without pushing Louis so far theres no hope he'll return. I think Armand turned Daniel now, so Daniel will still be available for Armand to torture (mentally and emotionally) whenever he does figure how he wants to do it.

      Armand said that the idea of turning someone into a vampire repulsed him. I believe that he was telling the truth. For him to do so was an expression of disrespect and hate, though the joke's on him as Daniel is dead and loving it. However, Daniel and Armand are now bonded forever; they're biologically programmed to care about each other whether they want to or not. Armand knows that. He's not an impulsive character. So it remains to be known what this action means for him. Perhaps it's an indirect way to maintain a bond with Louis, making them all inconnected. Maybe it's a way to control what information about himself becomes public knowlegde, as Daniel is now compelled to care about Armand's best interests. Though Daniel refers to Armand as a "fucking asshole" something in the way he speaks of him gives me the impression he doesn't actually hate him.

      @@jonfreeman9682 The fact that he hasn't used his blood is part of what makes it so potent. With Anne Rice's vampires, the more fledglings they make, the weaker each subsequent fledgling becomes. It's a little different with Lestat, as he gets a power-up from drinking Akasha's blood, which gives his next fledgling (Louis) a bit more power than he'd normally have. As the fledgling of a 'child of the millenia" Armand started off as extremely powerful and after 500 years of building his power and never sharing it....Daniel's gonna be an extremely powerful baby vamp.

    also armand's relationship with louis at that point seems a bit paralled to the children of satan and the theatre des vampires as in armand is there out of obligation. he allows lestat to destroy the cult, then louis destroys the coven (which armand doesn't stop and easily could) and now it's daniel breaking the relationship.

The show kind of mirrors that with adding a little bit more spite between them. I would like to see some more amicability between them now in the show, since Daniel has finally been turned. I don't know if I'd mind being turned as someone who appears to be in his late 50s or early 60s. The actor is around 70, but he looks much younger than that. He looks to be about the same (human) age as Santiago (although that actor is around 60). Daniel does not appear frail (now that he has been cured). He's actually pretty handsome. I think it would only be bad to be turned if one was so elderly as to appear frail or bent or if one's mind had started to go due to dementia. Perhaps if one's body was incurably infirm due to age or illness and that affliction carried over into vampire existence, it would become too much to bear over time. That does not appear to be the case with Daniel, though. In the show, Daniel was still sharp and full of vitality, only suffering periodic flares of his condition. His animated and expressive behavior in the interview and his confident stride as he stalks his prey while on the "phone call" makes it clear that his human age causes him no discomfort as a vampire. In that case, I can't see anything too terrible about being turned at Daniel's age.

    I do think the main reason Armand turned Daniel was out of spite or anger but I think there was a 'bigger picture'. In this version Daniel is a relatively famous journalist and has an, admittedly estranged, family. Daniel was also going to die of Parkinsons which would have been a pretty horrible death but it would be, in comparison to a vampire's life, quick. I think Armand wanted Daniel to live in order to have the life of the vampire punish him in ways Armand felt he couldn't by just killing him. A ironic twist as Daniel, in his youth wanted to become a vampire possibly as a way to escape the inevitable decline and unsatisfying way his life would play out (or at least that is what he probably felt unconsciously) and now when he no longer wanted it, had accepted his mortality, Armand gives him his youthful 'wish' because he knows the problems that will come with it.

I somehow suspect he and Armand had a thing and Daniel erased it because Daniel was too obsessed with power. There's something off about Daniel's past marriages. Armand isn't Alice but Alice could've been that third they took in the books, a young college student that was a dancer in NYC who they "adopted" as a sugar baby. The woman might've not employed birth control and decided to baby trap Daniel. Armand probably saw Daniel's reluctance and decided to let Daniel move forward as a father. I read the books a long time ago, so my memory might be off, but I could have sworn in the books Armand made Daniel a vampire because he fell in love with him and Armand is always looking for a companion to hold back the long years of immortality and the effect it has on the old ones losing the will to live.

    One thing I think could add context to this analysis is what a big deal turning Daniel is considering that Armand had never turned anyone and outright refused to do so earlier in the season, even when it arguably offered a way of getting rid of Claudia without potentially having Louis executed by the coven (i.e. bypassing the trial by handing Claudia off to her own companion). He overcomes a massive personal taboo when he turns Daniel. And that's without the book canon that the longer you have gone without turning anyone the more powerful the fledgling will be when you do make one, so that older vampires are specifically forbidden under Armand's coven rule from ever making any fledglings at all. It's such a taboo that I think there must be more to learn about Armand's specific feelings for Daniel, as opposed to how his feelings about Louis impact his behavior to Daniel. We have already seen they had encounters that Daniel had forgotten in the 70s and this could have gone further.

    • @tishw14
      @tishw14 26 дней назад

      And I'm not sure I agree with your implication that vampires care about people being old when they are turned. Is there anything to indicate that being a vampire who appears old (but is still fully mobile and compos mentis) is a terrible experience? Except I suppose that you are less mainstream attractive? But equally you would get a lot of benefits in terms of hunting e.g. people trusting/underestimating you. Plus, I know the TV series and books are different, but some book vampires are "old" when turned e.g. Magnus. Marius even considers it a benefit if you've lived a whole human life before you die (though being Roman his concept of that might be a bit younger than Daniel). And Lestat is frequently interested in hunting/turning older humans (e.g David Talbot) and doesn't seem to consider age repulsive when it comes to victims or potential vampires.

    @anneberkes1516 Месяц назад +2

    I'm not entirely convinced that in this case Armand is Daniel's maker. In the book their relationship is far different. They are in love and are a couple. In this show, all I see Armand wanting to do to Daniel is disemboweling him. My hunch is that shortly after the book was published, Lestat read it and sought Daniel out to maybe tell him his story. And as a "reward", he gave him the dark gift whether Daniel wanted it or not. Just a feeling

    • @Melanie-jy2nw
      @Melanie-jy2nw Месяц назад +3

      The beginning of their relationship in the book was very similar with Armand wanting to torture Daniel. He starved and held him captive and stalked him around the world for a decade in a cat and mouse chase. Daniel was terrified of him (while also bitching at him) and Armand was both interested in him ‘fascinated’ and threatening he’d kill him the second he was bored of him. Eventually, it turned into a really fucked up love affair and Daniel’s drug addiction turned into a blood addiction.
      my personal theory is that Armand is Alice, Daniel’s ex wife. He messed with his memories in the 80's so that he doesn’t remember being with a vampire. The reason he’d mess with his memories is because Daniel’s addiction to Armand's blood was killing him (it literally was why he was dying in the book and was what caused Armand to turn him) so Armand did the only selfless thing he’d ever done when it came to love and let his lover go. There’s hints of the Alice theory throughout the season if you rewatch. i think that he didnt turn Daniel out of spite but because Daniel took a turn for the worst and he turned him rather thsn lose him (like in the book). Louis only assumed it was about him and out of spite.

    • @anneberkes1516
      @anneberkes1516 Месяц назад +2

      @Melanie-jy2nw interesting thought, but Louis and Armand were a couple still in the eighties. Where would he have found time to sneak away and mess with Daniel. And then in the end Armand confronted him like: you lost me my companion, what can you say in your defence. And Danny was like: don't be a fool, I always wanted to be a vampire.
