Armand's problem is he didn't live much when he was human, never knew the world only drastic change & harsh reality. As a Vampire it took him a long time, too long, to live alone with some purpose & create fledglings he could love (until Daniel). He always need smthg else to believe in, someone to feel through. Like people who need someone make them feel whole, with purpose or they are miserable & empty.

After seeing the movie way back, and NOW, being mesmerized by Assad Zaman's portrayal of Armand, I began reading the book series. The series is extraordinary... after reading (listening to the audiobooks :) from IWTV to Blood and Gold, I find this tragic character even more engrossing and captivating. I have "reread" Armand's storylines several times including The Devil's Minion, his finally finding some happiness with Benji and Sybelle (in The Vampire Armand), his prominent presence in Blood and Gold, and more. Thanks for your hard work in putting this video together!

I've read most of the Vampire-Chronicles , stopped at Blackwood Farm. It's not for everyone, but the first three books everyone should read once (some I've re-read many times). Armand is def one of the best, immensely tragic, interesting, vicious, cunning, & truly monstrous. His appearance in Queen of the damned is legendary.

I really recommend you read the newest final trilogy starting with Prince Lestat.. those books are much more similar in tone to first three books than those that came later.... To me it's like Anne went through a phase from "Memnoch the devil" to "Blood Canticle".. a phase I didn't like, those I still greatly enjoyed Marius and Armand's books... but when she came back with "Prince Lestat" a decade later she wrote much more like the old original Anne.

IMO, the section in "Interview," when Armand teaches Louis to climb the tower in Paris, after which they talk as Armand builds a fire in the créneaux at the top, is the best part of the book. The sadness is palpable. I remember crying the first time I read it. Anne Rice's description of their conversation is sublime.

I was a big fan of the books back in the day, and was initially hesitant about Cruise/ Pitt casting, but upon seeing the movie - thought they did a decent job portraying the book characters. However, for Banderas as Armand….all I ever saw was “Antonio Banderas in a wig,” not “Armand,” which is a shame for such a good character (and not critical of Banderas…the character had few scenes, few and not that good lines, who knows what direction he was given, etc )

    • @Sweeptheleg83

Of all of them, Cruise as Lestat was easily the highlight. Cruise, for me, is Lestat. He really did embody the character in that movie. Pitt was solid as Louie but Tom was the show stealer in that movie. Agree with Bandanas not being great as Armand.

Nice! I can see why you stopped his story where you did. However, in the last three books(Prince Lestat) Armand was essentially the only one who pushed back against Lestat; which was a good thing. In the last book in particular Armand has a prolonged soliloquy where he calls Lestat a fool a dozen+ times and generally questions his ability to lead. It was the highlight of his arc for me...

Yes, Armand has lived an amazing life both as human and vampire BUT the lesson here is: SEEK NOT VALIDATION OUTSIDE YOURSELF!!! The issue with Armand is that he ALWAYS needs something or someone to worship to have meaning in his life when life is about YOU and YOU ALONE and the choices you make. In other words: first it was religion, his father (being a great hunter), Marius, Santino's cult, The Theatre of the Vampires, Lestat, Veronica's veil, even Daniel. Try looking inside yourself for once! Religion is a CONSTRUCT, cults are CONSTRUCTS, other people are CONSTRUCTS. Just connect with your Higher Self and co-create your own reality and decide who you want to be, having learned your lessons from the past. Don't LOOK outside yourself...EVER!

Like armand treated daniel the way lestat treated louis in quite a few ways, but hiding his actual legitimate affection led to daniel agonizing about his place in the dynamic and driving himself absolutely i sane with the isolation that came with being armand’s human caretaker. I will say I haven’t read it in a bit and may be fudging details but I really remember this being one of the main really nasty things armand did to someone.

@@allhailthecrimsonking Just allowing Sybelle and Benji to grow up and die naturally, as in, Marius listens to Armand and accepts what he wants for them instead of Marius ignoring Armand's wishes and doing what he wants instead. It's almost like Marius didn't learn anything from turning Armand into a vampire at 17, even though he was super reluctant to turn Bianca into one. Even Armand, especially after doing awful things, particularly to Claudia, grows to realise that vampirism is a curse and learns from his mistakes, really wanted Sybelle and Benji to live full lives - and Marius knew this, but then Armand just accepts Marius' reasoning...it was like neither of them had learned anything, and Armand fell back into being a submissive child blindly allowing Marius to take control like at the beginning. Great video! Now I have a craving to read the book. But I have a question. I was told that vampires from the Anne Rice books don't have sexuality. Is this true or was it changed as the books went on? Also, have you thought about doing videos about vampires from anime and manga?

Daniel: I tried to get the waiter's attention by blinking in morse code.
Armand: *Why are you blinking so much?*
Daniel: I've got something in my eye.
Armand: *Here, let me get it out.*
Daniel: No thank you, I don't wanna die.
Butler: Bonjour, Sir was blinking at me is this because your date is a freak?
    ...
    Daniel: No.
Butler: Very good then, bon appétit.

Armand and Louis are tortured "souls". Different in their beliefs but have trauma bonding. It never left them and only intensified after becoming a vampire as their senses intensified. It Also is a testement of the eras louis and Armands core memories reside. Regular humans memories fade with time. Vampire memories( are sharp and fresh) .

Antonio Banderas is pure sexappeal, his version of Armand blew my 9 year old mind.
I really don't care for any of the books, the 1994 movie is a masterpiece and I'm glad the creators did their own thing.
The new show followed the same example, the fans of the books will b*tch no matter what you do.
If I want a 1:1 adaptation of the source material I would simply stick to the novels, but I want a fresh perspective.
I truly enjoy fan fiction because it's interesting to see other people's perspective.
It's like reading reviews on IMDB, people tend to discover certain details I didn't even pay attention to or they add background information - staring at a screen for a while and then simply moving on to the next content is not how you should appreciate a good movie or show.

i dont get it either you live aslong as you want and if you get tired of it you just kill youreself in the sun or ask someone to kill you,i always felt that a vampires struggle with inmortality is so melodramatic.
yes sometimes you can struggle with boredom but that doesnt mean life isnt good and there is always something to do especialy when you have vampire powers.
and when it comes to living through a bad or even traumatic event my phylosofie is quat simple ones youre done with that situation you just dont care about it annymore it only weighs you down i would only care and invest in the fun times,so shit happened to you oke moving on ^^

I think the pain of it doesn't only come from long lives but also the fact you have to kill almost every night to maintain it. It means that you'll have to take the guilt and be very likely never able to establish normal relationships with most of the society. Life can be really painful when you are forced to become an outsider for good.

    • @ssjwes
      @ssjwes 2 года назад +2

Lost relationships. Just imagine multiple lives worth of ups and downs. Not all in life is happy and good. Most vampires in this world don't last long as a "couple" or small coven. They grow to hate each other, do a lot of emotional damage to each other then leave.

It wouldn't. You would divorce from many aspects of day to day life however. As a martial artist I have all but set out to live in the wilderness. Once I accomplish the beach bod however that will change to my liking. Preferably Hawaii weather.
Going for the circular style ranch home too. Complete with mobile shelter. If I can park my house I am doing well. Landing it too..

hey Sam, it's what I like to call an introduction to the character, a build up to what is about to come. You don't just jump into their life with the opening sentence, otherwise it shows poor structure. I think you already knew that and left that comment anyway. Thanks for watching and have a great day
