Man, vampires in this show are fascinatingly terrifying. It was a good shift from Twilight like series. I deeply appreciated a masterfully crafted costumes and make up.
But I know I didn't like the end! I didn't think the older vampires would be conned into being killed so easily, due to them all being gathered in one place. But I didn't necessarily see them as evil because they understood that there shouldn't be more of themselves. No I don't know if that was because they knew they would starve. Or if they ultimate desire was to unite and become one as to get back into heaven.
God I loved this series. Ive watched it through several times now and each time i find something else to appreciate that i never realized before. The attention to detail was just on another level.
Yeah it's definitely worth a watch. If they had the money and type The walking Dead had which was very popular when this show was out it could have really been something popular but to me The walking Dead at this point was super boring
Such creativity & genius, combined with imagination to compliment the eons old Eastern European elements of Wamphyri breed of Strigoi & 1/2-caste Dhampyr. The film special effects are unmatched by anything now on the silver-screen. A masterpiece.
Hi Cogan Lollins! Thank you so much to have spoken about these series (comic and tv). I never had the chance to look them up by myself, but I have to confess that this reinterpretation of the Vampires-Strigoi, with white blood and wyrms in their veins is quite cool too. Quinlan, the "Born", Half-Vampire Gladiator especially. I loved the Mythological background with Archangels and the Three Ancients (reminding me of the Trinity from various ancient Mythologies), also balanced by some pseudo-science explanations. The name "Strigoi" also reminds me of the fantasy universe shaped of the books and games of "The Witcher". I saw that you put the "Hidden One" from The Witcher III into a list of the strongest vampires, but I think that you slightly underestimated the capacities of the different vampires, their origins, and their story in that universe. I'd really love it if you make a more complete video on them too. Thank you so much. Best Regards to You!
Eichors doesn’t actually physically “talk”. He mimics speech via mouth movement but his “voice” is actually telepathically sent to whom he is “speaking”, making it seem like they are hearing talk
I love your attention to details and analysis of various vampires. It's the kind of lore that's not easily freshened up but your compositions are very engaging and well paced.
Love this tv series!!! Del torro wasn't allowed to make it when he wanted to so he made blade 2 and used some of his ideas in it ..then years later got to make the strain
haha, i didn't watch this because i', still on the first season and didn't want spoilers, but i came here because it was labeled as "did anyone else think the master kind of looked like a puppet? more funny than scary?" i guess that was from a comment or something, but YES! how could every other scary thing in the show look SO-well created and so realistic, but the one, biggest, baddest guy looks like a hilariously bad Nosferatu puppet?! it was sooo funny! his confused expression and those giant, fat fingers! ahaha
Richard Samel was outstanding in this series and really deserves more recognition. David Bradley would be the perfect Scrooge in another adaption of A Christmas Carol.
Wow, I can't believe I missed this show! I'm going to check it out. I read the entire The Passage trilogy and it has some great and similar lore to this show. Unfortunately the show only lasted one season, but it is pretty interesting an unique.
Thank you for making this! Huge fan of this show still! Disappointed they didn’t do the origins of The Ancients but other than that it was great from beginning to end.
Quick side note, the name of strigoi comes from the Romanian mythology, where a strigoi is a vampiric type creature, capable to turn into animals and becoming invisibile.
Fun fact, STRIGOI refers mostly to the undead, not specifically to a vampire. Strigoi is from Romania, and it can mean also a ghost or a zombie or a vampire, anything that came back to life. To this day, there are backwards poor and undeveloped villages in Romania that burn the heart of the dead then drink a potion from the ashes to break any spell that might bring back the dead to haunt them.
I believe they came from the fallen angel who in human form is known as Vlad tepes. He was either an original, and the master/ father vampire and/ or he turned himself into one using black magic, sorcery, necromancy etc... And created a vampire race of children . Not cause he loves them but so he could rule over the world and have his vampire children do his evil bidding. That's what I believe.and also that Satan is Vlad's half brother. The movie Penny dreadful reveals a lot. Or.. Satan is Dracula's/ Vlad's son... ??
Best vampire show ever. I only know what the show says and nothing of the other lore but straight away that story about the angel being cut into 7 pieces was incredible
To this day my favorite vampire is the strigoi Kurt Barlow (played by the great Reggie Nalder) from 1979's Salem's Lot. And of course, you can't discuss strigois without mentioning Count Orlok from 1922's Nosferatu.
I love your videos i think you're very thorough with your coverage of vampire/monster media and i think the CW Series Supernatural would be a very ripe topic for you to cover considering all the lore their is that can be covered
This was one of my favorite vampire series...I loved true blood until they started changing it around and basically ruined it after 3 seasons but the strain was consistent..there are other series from the 80's that were good too but the strain was the best by far....I wish they would've gone a few more seasons or had an off chute series come from it..like a more detailed origin of the vampires..anyway I don't think they'll ever make another vampire series like this...
Vampire suggestions: Legacy of Kain - specifically the games from Blood Omen to Defiance, it covers loads of vampire mutations and evolutions. Highly suggest playing them too cause the story is incredibly good, could develop it into it's own series like you did with Underworld. Warhammer 40k - There are vampires in the 40k universe, though they arent talked about all that much, the main factions ofc get the most attention. Harry Potter - Vampires exist in that universe as well, they have been seen walking among wizards & being open about what they are. Your ideal Vampires - Basically, a video that describes the kind of vampires you'd like to see, whether in film, tv, or even video game. I'm honestly more interested in that kind of video than everything else, cause you clearly have a fascination with vampires, and anyone who likes vampire lore surely must have their own ideas. I'm personally making my own based on D&D, but with wider differences, capabilities, weaknesses, and strengths depending on their lifestyle choice. Like traditional blood sucking, burn in the sun types are referred to as Purist Vampires, there are Vampires who mostly feed on animals like the Cullens of Twilight but unlike the Cullens still suffer burns from sunlight, they can just tolerate it longer than Purists. And the closest to Humanized vampires are those that purchase blood or are given blood willingly, they can walk in daylight with no burns, but compared to other vampire types, they are naturally the weakest, just very slightly stronger than mortals. And I have a type of vampire that feeds too much, and if they give in too much to the thirst, they will become ravenous monsters similar to Underworld's Spawn of William, however they are seen as a plague to both vampires an vampire hunters - if say a vampire hunter an vampire were fighting but saw one of the monstrous vampires, they will drop their fight an try to kill the monster vampire, they are seen as that much of a danger to both blood sucker an living.
One 💁🏿♀️of the Best freaking series ( live action) beautifully horrifically made .. and IT ENDED SO SWEETLY MY ONLY complaint was I wish it had more seasons but they kept it short and sweet ❤️🔥🙌🏿
Quinn never sewed a new hand on after he lost his in Blade. He was growing a new one. Quinn belonged to the Cianteto clan of vampires that are native to Mexico. The clan is known to have the strength of ten men and can regenerate lost limbs.
Rise of the Lycans is hella underrated. A whole origin movie about the most interesting character in all of Underworld and it set up introduces and explains everything involving the second movie. You almost can't watch it without rise of Lycans or else it feels like a blade ripoff. Too bad we didn't get an origin story about the only interesting character in Blade, Deacon Frost.
I would've loved to make a Blade sequel. I would've titled it. BLADE- FROSTBITE. My plot is that Frost survived and has become the Vampire equivilent of the T1000 and has become a God to a hidden coven a reaper Vampires Blade must stop Frost from getting a hidden vial of Blood from the first Vampire Drake/Dracula at the same time fighting against a Military man who wants to create a Vampire Army.
While they keep their ears in the show, they do lose their noses but I get the impression it takes a while to happen. Eichorst, the master (in his first form we see) and the other ancients are without a nose. It would appear Borns don't lose their noses either judging by Quinlan's appearance
I thought this was such a good series. I blew through all 3 of the books in a matter of days the 1st one I actually read out the airport which was really funny and ironic because it was on airplane reading most of it . I love the lore behind the series and I think they did a really good job with it even in the TV show
This show seemed somewhat underrated to me in that I haven’t had any friends bring it up since it came out but a few remembered it when I brought it up years later. It was incredibly entertaining and had a pretty spectacular cast.
I just came from Facebook where I saw a "Weird History" post about Azreal and how destructive he was. Came to RUclips and saw this video and found it interesting enough to try but I've never even heard of this series. Weird to hear "Azreal" twice in the same day only minutes apart. It was the name of the vampires species that made me click on it. Stregoi isn't a name I've heard in a while and clearly whatever the show is, the creators took the lore seriously. No sunshine sparkling vamps here. (And Rhona Mitra too? Sign me up.)
I love this fresh not so fresh vampiric lore & take on this mythology & it excels in world building but got rushed to shit in the last seasons but man I cant lie I enjoyed most of it .
I'm not sure if you've taken a look at them but one vampire type I think would be interesting to do a video on is the Kindred from Vampire the Masquerade, both for the lore involving them and all the various different clans that exist and the unique abilities each clan possess.
I came across your channel while watching some videos about the underworld franchise Your videos are awesome hope you would do more mystical creatures as well

Yes!!! Finally, I can see you talk about the Master and the Elders.
Awesome.
Absolutely love this show and I'm so glad people are still talking about
I don't know why I never heard of this show. I love vampire things.
Watch it then. Amazing.
It’s very good but it missed out on being a 10 episode HBO series and becoming the goat vampire thing for sure
You missed out
Yeah it's definitely worth a watch.
Its one of my favourite shows so far on vampires! The detailing and ingenuity that went to create is amazing!

After learning their origins I'm actually interested in the story back when I thought it was just a biohazard show I didn't have any interest.
Love to hear that 🙏 hope you enjoy
If you want the origins read the books they explain a lot more than the show and actually make sense.
It's actually pretty good !
It's worth a watch, which is more than can be said for 99.9% of drivel out there.
It's on Hulu, and worth the watch.
Excellent show. I always found worms more frightening than fangs!
Love this tv series!!! Del torro wasn't allowed to make it when he wanted to so he made blade 2 and used some of his ideas in it ..then years later got to make the strain
Too bad the vampires in this show was dumb. They were different from zombies from the walking dead.
That explains a lot! Thanks for the info 🙏
@@coganLollins the comic book graphic novels of the strain were pretty good also
@@coganLollins Bradley who was in Harry Potter was also in Game Of Thrones he was a Fray and betray the starks at the Red Wedding in Session 3
What I liked is that the graphic novels were limited, the series was as well. They stuck to it and didn't let it go too long or be too short.
I've been binge watching this series the past three days. Its amazing
haha, i didn't watch this because i', still on the first season and didn't want spoilers, but i came here because it was labeled as "did anyone else think the master kind of looked like a puppet? more funny than scary?" i guess that was from a comment or something, but YES! how could every other scary thing in the show look SO-well created and so realistic, but the one, biggest, baddest guy looks like a hilariously bad Nosferatu puppet?! it was sooo funny! his confused expression and those giant, fat fingers! ahaha
Richard Samel was outstanding in this series and really deserves more recognition. David Bradley would be the perfect Scrooge in another adaption of A Christmas Carol.
I think these are the scariest version of Vampires but the lore behind their creation is fascinating. Those damn worms made my skin crawl.
Wow, I can't believe I missed this show! I'm going to check it out. I read the entire The Passage trilogy and it has some great and similar lore to this show. Unfortunately the show only lasted one season, but it is pretty interesting an unique.
The Passage got robbed! It was very interesting.
What are you talking about it is a 4 seasons show
This was one of my favorite series EVER….Many people love the zombie series on tv,but this was my jam.
this show to me was amazing. Del Toro did a great job with it.
Haha, fun to see Rick Baker at 10:28. Practically a legend of mask making, special effects and creatures in so many movies and tv shows.
Not just Romanian if I recall correctly.
They're mentioned in The Witcher too. I think it's probably a Slav vampire
@@SonOfTheDawn515 in the Slavic languages, and in Greek too, they're called striga, but strigoi is specifically Romanian.
@@spencerstevens2175 in other Slavic languages, they're known as striga, but strigoi is specifically Romanian.
@@daniel_strz oh ok. I think that's it. It's been years since I read it
Fun fact, STRIGOI refers mostly to the undead, not specifically to a vampire.
What? Where exactly does that happen in Romania?
This my absolute favorite vampire show/movie of all. Great writing! Greta special effects! Sooo sad it's over
I had no idea they came from an Angel in this vampire universe. I originally thought they were purely scientific and came about in a evolution way.
Yeah… The three books don’t hide the fact.
Yeah I know. Knew it.see I know a few things lol
@@____________838 Never read the books sorry bud.
@@amberlaughlin3518 Had 0 to do with Vlad. The Angel the masters came from was killed in biblical times
Best vampire show ever. I only know what the show says and nothing of the other lore but straight away that story about the angel being cut into 7 pieces was incredible
To this day my favorite vampire is the strigoi Kurt Barlow (played by the great Reggie
Nalder) from 1979's Salem's Lot. And of course, you can't discuss strigois without mentioning Count Orlok from 1922's Nosferatu.
Dude I love how in detail you went.
Thank you man.
Respect
This was one of the best shows on modern TV the seasons went by so fast I wonder if they ever turn the other Books from The Strain into TV shows
Im re-watching this again! this is so dope! What a off the cuffs series!
I love your videos i think you're very thorough with your coverage of vampire/monster media and i think the CW Series Supernatural would be a very ripe topic for you to cover considering all the lore their is that can be covered
One of the few limited series that was fantastic!
The strain will actually be a childhood early teen favorite. I think i was about 11 when it started. It will be forever a great show
Vampire suggestions:
Legacy of Kain - specifically the games from Blood Omen to Defiance, it covers loads of vampire mutations and evolutions.
And I have a type of vampire that feeds too much, and if they give in too much to the thirst, they will become ravenous monsters similar to Underworld's Spawn of William, however they are seen as a plague to both vampires an vampire hunters - if say a vampire hunter an vampire were fighting but saw one of the monstrous vampires, they will drop their fight an try to kill the monster vampire, they are seen as that much of a danger to both blood sucker an living.
eichorst absolutely killed it in this role
Parasitic Vampires are an awespome idea. Very much reminds me of the vampires in Brian Lunleys novel series Necroscope
I've read The Strain and it had to be one of the most frightening stories ever. The evil was just relentless
One 💁🏿♀️of the Best freaking series ( live action) beautifully horrifically made .. and IT ENDED SO SWEETLY
MY ONLY complaint was I wish it had more seasons but they kept it short and sweet ❤️🔥🙌🏿
This show was the best! We need more out of this universe
awesome video as always, love the strain but im still hoping you will do true blood sometimes, keep up the great work!
Ahh you mean the Hollywood "glampires"
@@Sighdaball cant u say that about every vampire movie series ever?:) haha
True Blood is vry good, the polar opposite of Strain, I love them both, but maybe prefer the Strain for it's mankyness.
@@alexandertrifunovic7376 No, , Not the Strain! Not gonna see any of those vamps on the cover of any GQ magazines
I have no idea why I love the strain so much but I do, I've watched through it like 5 times now
This show was so good, I remember being super hyped when this came out, season 1 was super good.
This show was completely amazing, I didn’t hate a single season of it completely original and kept me on my toes.
This is so interesting. I remember watching this show. Would be interested in more videos on the strain. Book vs show and character breakdowns.
Thank you Guillermo! 🧡 You are such a talented director.
love this channel keep it up man 👍
Thank you, I appreciate that 🙏
I bought the 4 seasons. Such an amazing series. All actors were outstanding. Re- watched and cry at the end again 😌
Same even after download them
Quinn never sewed a new hand on after he lost his in Blade. He was growing a new one. Quinn belonged to the Cianteto clan of vampires that are native to Mexico. The clan is known to have the strength of ten men and can regenerate lost limbs.
Cool!
I forgot how cool the lore was in this show. I never read the books but I loved the show a lot. Need to rewatch it, it’s been years
Ichorst was such a good character, i just wished we got to see more of Quinlans story.
He deserved a better ending
We need the vampires of supernatural.
I loved this show, good to see a vampire show where the vampires actually scary and uknow not wanting to become a vampire if i was in that universe
Agreed.
Finally someone talks About of this piece of vampiric art I hope with the time get the respet what deserve
Definitely must watch
Loved this series watched it twice!
Thank You for covering this... It's one of my absolute fav series!
The Strain is probably the best thriller/horror Serial of the last 20 years
God damn the first season of The Strain was sick.
While they keep their ears in the show, they do lose their noses but I get the impression it takes a while to happen. Eichorst, the master (in his first form we see) and the other ancients are without a nose. It would appear Borns don't lose their noses either judging by Quinlan's appearance
This series has one of the most gripping and exciting pilots I have ever seen
I’ve seen every episode and can say it’s brilliant
I love this fresh not so fresh vampiric lore & take on this mythology & it excels in world building but got rushed to shit in the last seasons but man I cant lie I enjoyed most of it .
Great job Cogan Lollins! You can really tell, that you like horror movies and shows! Especially Vampire type shows!
Keep up the great work!
I'm not sure if you've taken a look at them but one vampire type I think would be interesting to do a video on is the Kindred from Vampire the Masquerade, both for the lore involving them and all the various different clans that exist and the unique abilities each clan possess.
The strain was an awesome show, was bummed it ended so quickly
I came across your channel while watching some videos about the underworld franchise
Your videos are awesome hope you would do more mystical creatures as well
