  • Vampire Chronicles: My favourite character from the Chronicles has got to be Lestat De Lioncourt, whose fame began with arguably, Anne’s most popular book, Interview With The Vampire. This book really spearheaded vampires back on to the scene and to be honest, the genre hasn’t looked back since. LeStat is by far an incredibly written character. From his difficult beginnings with an abusive father to his ups and downs throughout his life as a vampire. How he embraced his vampiric nature and how he is a fantastic example of what happens when a vampire has had enough and says ‘screw the rules’. In today’s video I’m going to cover the life of Lestat with reference to his autobiography ‘The Vampire Lestat’ and ‘Interview With The Vampire’. I’ll cover his tales and experiences in the Queen of The Damned and The Body Thief in a second separate video as there’s just so much on Lestat to cover. Welcome to the Vampire Folklore, This is The Life Of LeStat De Lioncourt.

    You forgot to mention that Lestat’s ability to read minds helped him in his hunt. He only killed those he thought were evil. Like the scene with the prostitutes where he put one of them in a coffin. In Vampire Lestat it was revealed that the night before, those women had viciously robbed and killed a customer. He never told Louis but he was striving to be a “moral “ vampire too

    My favorite thing about lestat by far is that in the very start of the second book, while he's retorting lewis' interpretation of him. It's like reading interview you really feel for lewis and hate lestat. then in like the first page or so of the vampire lestat, lestat straight roasts lewis harder than sunlight would. He pretty much says "I was never a bad guy, lewis' is just the whiniest,most self absorbed drama queen and you can give him, everything he ever asked for. an escape from his miserable life, ultimate power, immortality, love, family and he's just so miserable he can't help but to literally burn everything down around him." (totally paraphrasing that) and just like that you go from hating lestats guts to thinking "those are all really valid points. this dude's hilarious and cool" and then agreeing with his side. I mean the concept of vampire rockstar is so fanfictiony that it was gonna be a hard sell for me. but anne rice truly did nail it.

    Magnus did give Lestat a choice he offered him all of his gold if he would agree to sell his soul to the devil.
    The Lestat refused and he offered to give him all of his gold and to make immortal if he agreed to sell his soul to the devil.
    Again Lestat refused and attacked him. He was easily thrown off as if he was a small child. If had he accepted and agreed he would have ended up in the cage with all the others and that would have been the end of his story.
    Magnus wasn't looking for heir to his fortune or a prodigy he was looking for revenge he knew that the others that worship the devil would find him and he knew that Lastat would destroy them that's why he turned the Wolf killer.
    Because Magnus knew that Lastat would do what he could not.
    Not because Magnus wasn't strong enough too but because they were his family.

    Can someone tell me why some people when turned into vampires become younger versions of themselves (like Gabriella) and others are really old, like Magnus? If you remain the way you are, it doesn't explain Lestats' mother or Magnus(I doubt someone turned an old old man into a vampire)...most others seem to remain the same after turning. My theory is that you turn into the last healthy version of yourself. Still can't think of why Magnus would look so old, but the 6000yo vampires from later in the series looked younger.

      Magnus was an old, old man when he turned. The coven leader of the vampires in France at the time refused to give Magnus the gift, so the cooky old alchemist dug up a sleeping vampire and essentially stole his blood.
      Other than his increased age, Magnus was also kind or crazy and lived in squalor by the time Lestat met him, so I think that also affected his appearance. 🤷‍♀️ guess even vampires have to take care or themselves.

    I may be mistaking, but, as I remember the Vampire Chronicles, Lestat did not even know Akasha, until , long after meeting Louis and Claudia. Therefore, it was impossible for him to survive their attack because of any benefit from Akasha's blood he consumed. That did not happen until The Queen of the Dammed. Respectfully. I haven't read the books but I've seen interview with a vampire many times and queen of the damned. In queen of the damned they imply Marius created lestat. Is that not correct? Marius sees lestat wandering around at the shipyard and turns him. Brings him back to the island and tells him to drink or he will die.

    • @justdiane5
      @justdiane5 9 месяцев назад +3

      That is incorrect. In the books, which I highly recommend, Lestat was kidnapped by an old renegade vampire named Magnus. He told nothing about how to proceed in the world as a new vampire, and as a consequence Lestat just ended up doing what felt right to himself. And since he was strong, physical and mentally, nobody could ever corral him. Hence the nickname "Brat Prince".
      If you don't like reading the audio books are unabridged and very well done.
