Come on. That was a bloody good opening. Only took 5 takes! :D
But what do you reckon guys, think you could sleep in it?
Honestly, it was pretty amazing waking up overlooking Mount Fuji and after many years of complaining about camping and RV's, I think I may finally get the appeal 😅
And a huge thanks to Mitsubishi Fuso for letting us borrow this prototype wonder truck for a couple of days! I want one.

Japanese designers are really insanely amazing. Every time i think i wont be impressed, a new absolutely amazing thing appears, if its not very innovative, its always at least so well executed and presented that its perhaps even better than something entirely new.
It seems like japan was always like this huh? Kinda of a very fertile place for creativity and very masterful craftsmanship, not surprising that the whole japonisme thing happened and, if we think about it, never really ended.

the food storage is really too small to be a serious product...
also the double monitors is fine... but the way it is stored and position seems a little wasteful in both space and potential view out of the windows...
there doesn't seem to be some kind of netting outside... so that's also slightly concerning...
also doesn't seem like there is enough space for the to store out door furniture which it seems they obviously needed...
that said, it is just a prototype... the real thing might have more sensible designs....

Pretty sure those are the unfortunate compromise to allow that, admittedly impressive, dual-widescreen monitor setup. I'd imagine that without one of monitors, this could easily be quite luxurious on the waterworks side and/or allow extended kitchen/cold storage space - or anything really.
Dunno how good idea the solar panels on that kind of folding cover would be but.. if there were one or two of those small, portable ones stashed somewhere on board, this wouldn't be a problem. I was actually thinking if they have any reasonably small and powerful "wind sails", those weird tubular wind generators in a form that'd be useful on this small scale.

Any Mitsubishi workers reading this- adding a wheelchair lift as an option if you ever mass produce it would see so many sales! Myself and many other wheelchair users miss camping as so many campers aren’t made/ have the option to be accessible. Being so small, wouldn’t make much difference to most- once we’re up inside, it just means less space to get around. So long as you can get to the bed and the seat, you’re fine.

Yeah. You can buy these kind of trucks barebones/with just flatbed and start from there. It's a cheaper alternative compared to a built RV too (at least in my country)

This was fantastic! I think Mitsubishi should have you test out all their camper prototypes. A whole series and then they can get an idea of the worlds reaction to their products. You and Sharla are so great together! I have followed her and Taylor for years. I'm happy you two got together and are making videos together on the reg. Thank you both for all your hard work and the glimpse into your life in Japan.

In australia, we use solar hot water heaters for camping, which can range from a black coloured bag of water or PVC pipe network that can be hung from a tree for a shower, all the way to proper solar heat exchangers for camper vans. With this one, it looks like you could attach a thin tank to the back wall of the truck that can heat up in the sun during the day, and have hot water at night (or be assisted with elements to heat it up). Maybe even syphon heat from the engine bay during operation

RV life sounds brilliant in Japan! Low crime rate, great scenery and importantly beautifully clean washrooms.
In my country I'd be immediately robbed and my RV hijacked. All it takes is to break into the buttons console and half the RV wall opens up from outside.

One thing worries me is safety concerns over the button feature shown that opens it from the outside. Hopefully it has a locking feature that can keep people from simply opening it whenever they like, like if your sleeping or left your belongings in it while you're away from it. Stay safe you two.

Interesting to watch camper/ vanlife in japan. It will be interesting to see how the prototype evolves into a fully functional camper vehicle. The current vehicle has some cool ideas, but ive seen it done better on other boxtrucks conversions, except for the raising side wall. that was cool, but needs a insect screen. I'd love to see what Mitsubishi does with the finished product.

  • @raddaks2039

It really looks like it could use a major overhaul when it comes to space optimization. The giant screens wasting tons of cabinet space behind huge doors, for example. Definitely form over function in a lot of areas. I'd take basically any camper over this.
Beautiful scenery, though! That looks like such a nice campground.
