You are spot on with this video. After years driving porsches lotus mg, marcos etc ive come back to these. You cant have more fun for the money! The icing on the cake is if you have a non rusty one its only going to go one way in price

I bought my NB when prices were at rock bottom in 2020 and even the not so desirable NB is gaining momentum with regards to value. It hurts my heart not to have an NA, but there are so many memories attached to this NB now. It is the first car I ever bought, I gave it to my mother for her 60th birthday and have now unfortunately inherited it back.
My goal is to make this NB the most beautiful silver 1998 NB 1.6, with tasteful mods and only high quality parts that really contribute to the car. It has to fit the design, so no ultra-modern wheels and it has to keep the character, so no turbo conversion.

I wouldn’t worry too much about not having the NA. There’s little difference between either (pop up headlights being the obvious difference) but the NB will only follow the appreciating NA in value.

I think they passed the bottom of the U-shape several years ago in the UK. Other points for being pro the Mk1 is the simplicity. You can fix pretty much everything with a 10,12 and 14mm spanner. Parts are still easy to get and consumables are cheap as you mention. JDM cars usually have higher spec... that can be worth seeking out. Mine is an Eunos VSpec-2 and has aircon, heated seats, torsen diff and a "real" oil pressure gauge for instance. Any performance deficit is also easy to fix. Mine has a supercharger and 200bhp, but looks stock on the outside. Surprises BMW and Audi drivers. ;)

Great video! I’m currently saving for a mk1 V Special in green with the tan interior! Hoping to pick a nice one up within the next year or so!

I've been daily driving my 1992 Eunos Roadster V-Special for a year and a half now. Its one of the better driving experiences you can get everyday for the price. Best spec in my opinion, the Japanese sure do have good taste. Id get one before they start climbing price wise, especially the earlier ones. Just look on auto trader at the lowest mileage examples, most of which are asking stupid prices already.

im here in 2024 saying I just got a decent little 93 mk1 SE and never having driven anything even remotely sporty in my life, I find the 1.6 such a pleasure to drive. I was very lucky with the price/condition of mine as she just needs taken care of for now before i ever consider a rebuild/restoration. But your words on prices and "legal speed fun" ring very true.

I've had mx5s for the last 9 years or so starting with a mk3. I bought a couple of mk1 Eunos Roadsters at the end of 2016 with the intention of selling them on. Paid £1200 for a vspec which I made a £700 profit on the following spring and £2200 for an S-limited which I still have to this day. With fuel, tax, mot, insurance and maintenance it's averaged about £500 per year to run factoring in a value increase of around £2 - 2.5k Not bad for a 30 year old car.

I absolutely agree. I have a Mk1 and a Mk 2. I find the Mk 1 much more fun, yes the Mk 2 has a better chassis and interior but for some reason I enjoy my Mk 1 much more. Sadly I have to sell my Mk 1 now, it's an orignal BBR and fully restored. Fabulous cars.

The car is a red 1991 fully restored and sealed with 136,000 miles. I've not seen another genuine BBR for sale for a long time. I have 4 MX-5's and need to thin my collection down now I'm 78 years old. The car will be at the MX-5 Owners Club event at Gaydon on 17 September. £8,000. Please reply if you're interested.

I have owned my NA EUNOS roadster for 14 years.
Bought on EBay for £460 .
Special edition, black, electric windows, air con , power steering. And full Mazda body kit.
I completed some welding to the body around the rear wheel arches and fibreglass repairs to the front spoiler. Replaced the seals on the rear light clusters which had perished allowing water to ingress into tho boot.
Ps. I will never sell the car.

    • @FastandFun

The US market for RHD JDM has mopped up a few Mk1 Eunos Roadsters namely V Spacials. I sold two which were exported to Ireland and the other to Malta. 25 year rules abroad makes UK 'classics' desirable

Sad I miss the days when you could pick these up for £1000, my first MX5 was a mk1 V-Spec in British Racing Green. £999 I paid for it and it was mint, I would have kept it forever was great cheap fun until some idiot pulled out in front of me. Unfortunately it was written off and I only got £600 back from insurance. I currently own a mk3 NC1 sport and sometimes think about getting back into a mk1, unfortunately NC1's are not worth much these days and mine wouldn't sell for enough to buy a decent mk1 :(.

@@suthanmohanasundaram6881 The NA is a rawer experience I think, but the NC does have a lot more power. It depends on what you’re looking for I think. The NC is also a great platform to mod. Other than that it has been a few years since I have driven an NA now 👍
