Kit, this was an excellent review. I was close to PIFing my Yaqi Aqua Silvertip as it was impossible to face lather with. Try circular motion and you're f***ed on the face with this brush. So prickly. The trick with this brush is (as you've mentioned) building the lather in a bowl and then painting the lather with back and forth motion (basically like how Simpson recommends using their brushes). I've tried it and got excellent results. I've discovered that it is possible to get a perfect shave with just painting motions (exfoliating is overrated). The trick is to spend quite some time on the face with the brush. I recommend at least 3-5 minutes on the face painting the lather, with rigorous back and forth motion. Bowl lathering is super fast anyway with this brush, so you don't necessarily waste a ton of time. For bowl lathering, this brush is the best I've experienced. I will never try to face lather with this brush ever again, but with a nice bowl, you can enjoy this brush very much. That's my experience anyway. Cheers.
I love face lathering and I was thinking to buy that brush. Your comment really saved me. Thank you! Is there a yaqi (prefer silvertip) brush for face lathering that you could recommend me?
@@fasma242526 I don't have any other silvertip from Yaqi but I've got around 5-6 two-band badger brushes from yaqi (ranging 22-26 mm in knot size). Basically, all of them are absolutely perfect for face lathering. Pillowy soft tips, and very nice backbone. Load your puck of soap on the damp brush and lather on, simply amazing. My favorite of all is the Moka 26 mm 2 band. It eats a bit of lather but the face feel is really luxurious. If I'd have to choose only one though, I'd probably get a 24 mm knot (yaqi cavern lake 2 band is magnificent). The 24 mm size is optimal, keeps enough lather for 3-4 passes, and doesn't dominate your face. Although I love the Moka I wouldn't want to use it every day ;)
Sounds like you figured out the secrets of using the type of Brush you own~! My favorite brush these days is the Yaqi 24 MM Boar Brush with the clear handle and a Black stripe by the brush. Simply a fantastic brush for all around use~! I have completely converted to Boar brushes .. I have the one Yaqi one Omega 24 MM and one Semogue Boars.. all of them killer good brushes. Kit
Excellent, thorough review. I only have 2 bands because that's mainly what's available, but nothing annoys me more during a face lather, than spending the time to work up a good lather, only to have half of it scraped away when trying to smooth out the coat. Haha
What is difference between all brushes eg cheapest to most expensive What is difference between all the knots Now that would be an interesting video for a beginner Had a great shave today
The father of DE shaving. Very informative and well explained.
Thanks so much for making what I do here have value ~! Kit
Awesome review Kit! This answered so many questions I had about the different Yaqi knots and knots in general. Thanks for sharing!
Welcome Jabob! Kit
I just ordered one of these. Should be here in a few days.
