This whole series has been excellent. I know I’m going to watch this a few times as I really need work on lighting. Way back when I was taking a lot of life drawing I used to be decent with it....not so much anymore
Thanks for this informative series. I was surprised when you noted the misalignment of facial features using parallel lines near the end. I had been keenly observing the entire video and only became aware of this misalignment when you pointed it out. I was like, "oh, man, this guy knows his stuff." Excellent material and I appreciate your content in these anxious times.
Really enjoyed the whole series and how everything is broken down! Part 3 really tied everything together and I now have a better understanding of light, value changes, plane changes and so forth - and thus, will have more confidence knowing what to look for whenever I draw from a reference. Thank you so much for putting this together!
This and a lot of the others in this series are wonderful. I studied art many years ago and am getting back in to it. I've gone past the basic stage and coming in to late intermediate stage and there are so few videos about the later stages as I think people just don't push through that initial learning plateau. So thank you very much, this reminds me of Vilpu's/Bridgeman/hogarth techniques, so it's great to see those things applied. Cheers.
Thanks so much for your videos. Many of them include references to other artists and teachers that you've learned from, and this has been helpful to me for research, being an absolute beginner. I am someone who learns well through words, so I am benefited by hearing your introductory theoretical breakdown, and catchphrase formulas here, like "different value=different plane", etc. I find these phrases come readily to mind to self-correct my drawing when I am feeling stuck. So I ask about where you are quoting from in hopes that I can find more iterations on explanation. That said, I think your lecture here is excellent--very useful to me personally.
There are two terms: Guys and Gals. But the word 'guys' has been adopted to include both genders. Of the two terms, why has GUYS been adopted? Why not 'gals' ? The answer is that there is a higher societal value to being male than there is to being female. Why are males bothered when addressed as 'gals' but females are assumed not to be bothered when addressed as 'guys' ? Why are women allowed to dress like men, but men cannot dress like women ? Why can women adopt men's names but men can't adopt women's names? There is a higher societal value to being male than there is to being female. It's SEXISM in speech and writing. Drop "Guys". The word ''Folks'' is better.

Hi, is there a book or piece of writing that you're quoting David Jamieson from? Thank you.
