“Mario! You’re insane! What do you think you’re doing?! You can’t just be throwing yourself into the unknown without any knowledge of what’s ahead!” -Goombella. Date: When Prologue pit was first done. “Also Mario, stop using me as a meat shield! Do you have NO respect for Goombas nowadays?!” -Goombella. Date: Literally 5 minutes ago.
The less HP you or your partners have, the more sp your audience gives you. 1.5x for mario or a partner in danger 2x for both in danger or one in peril 2.5x for one in danger and one in peril 3x for both in peril. Partners being dead counts as them being in peril.
It's actually even better than that - Mario multiplies it by 2x or 3x for Danger and Peril respectively, as opposed to the partner's 1.5x and 2x. So if both are in Peril, that becomes 3x2... that is, 6x!
Little update to this comment: none of this applies to SP gained from Appealing. That uses a completely different formula... basically, as long as there's at least 1 audience member, you get 0.25 SP, plus 0.25 more for each Super Appeal. (And then another 0.01 SP for every 4 audience members you have.) Hence why two Bulky Bob-ombs were enough to fill 1 SP while Bringle had three Super Appeals.
And atop THAT, Bonetail can have a few different audience compositions. One of the WORST ones you can get is an audience of all Dull Bones, who ONLY give SP for Appealing.
The setup of, "Hold R while you beat the final boss and don't let up and start a new game" sounds so much like the old school yard "Ya you can unlock Master Hand in smash you just beat super hard with no damage"
I think the best part about these early Pit Trials is what happens immediately after. Imagining Hooktail being cocky about how strong they are when you already beat Bonetail was already pretty good.

Okay my first comment was on the thumbnail and a quick skip to the end. Nice vid, really liked the enemy stats page thing you edited in! As for suggestions for challenges...you seem pretty good, so I'd like to see how you'd strategize with BP Only or Even Turn. I think a Level Zero run (both game & Pit) would be suit you, too. LOL. If you're gonna be making more TTYD content, you've earned yourself a subscriber :)
I think I did a BP only run several years ago, at a similar time to when I did the Pre-Hooktail Pit run mentioned in the video. Even Turn is a really interesting one that I've never tried, same with Level Zero. I thought about attempting Impossible Mode at some point but maybe I'll work up to that with some other full game challenges first LMAO. Either way though I definitely plan to do more with this game, thanks for the suggestions and comments! :)
@BringlesCan I wouldn't recommend impossible mode, it's one of the worst challenges and basically doesn't test any TTYD skills other than superguarding, and it's not even fun on top of all that imo. Paper Mario games are more about strategy than execution and even turn is a great test of strategy while level zero is a great test of both strategy and execution so they're both great challenge runs. Any good Paper Mario challenge run has a good amount of strategy involved, impossible mode sucks because there is almost no strategy.
@@BringlesCan Don't attempt Impossible Mode for your own sanity LOL. Unless you want to practice superguard timings, there is no real worth to it not to mention the fact that Shadow Sirens 2, Bonetail and Shadow Queen are such ridiculous RNG-nightmares as all of them have attacks that are either unsuperguardable (Marylin's Lightning, Dead Hands drag, ect) or just completely unguardable in Bonetail's case with the bite, as you already know.
It’s interesting to me that you never used sleepy stomp. I actually think it’s a great badge for this challenge cause you can put some enemies “on pause” for a decently long time, even if you don’t want to attack them to risk waking them up
I've been binging all your TTYD videos for the last week and was first introduced to your videos with the "useless facts" video. I just wanted to say that I love your content and your commentary is super entertaining and really enjoyable to watch! You've made me want to get the remake so I can play this amazing game all over again!
Hi, this is the very first video of yours that I've watched cause it got recommended on my front page since I'm binge watching TTYD content but I just wanted to say that the final sequence of the audience repeatedly exploding and coming back was the funniest thing I've seen today. Great content dude, just subscribed!
I did this run when I was younger and I was surprised with how easy it is. Fire Drive really does most of the work, and you put so much levels into HP that it eventually becomes pretty hard to die. I'd say being walled by badge bandits and obviously floor 90+ are the only real hard spots, maybe Bonetail if he gets a lucky status. Though when I played this, I didn't actually get any badges from the shop so I had to rely on superguarding for a lot of my damage.
Given it's TTYD with 0 dmg superguards, that P-Up-D-Down is 10x more beloved. Dark Bristles after that green Phantom Embers encounter had me rolling, but honest the devs really put thought the freedom playing safe or hard balling from rng like same appeal any audience and confuse running
Very cool video. Wish I had access to my game to try this myself. Unrelated to the pit, my favorite thing about this game was bringing a long that pirate dude via sequence breaks. Having him hop on Mario's back while he rides Yoshi always got a chuckle out of me.
I did a pre-hooktail pit run for fun a couple days ago and somehow managed to get 2 life shroom drops and a power plus badge drop. That shit was magical.
As someone whos waiting for the remakes of TTYD to play it but is extremely excited for it, congrats! If you're interested in another brutal challenge thats like this you could try the Flipside Pit of 100 Trials pre-chapter 3 in Super Paper Mario, I personally have only done it pre-chapter 4 and had to recover from losing 2 runs to trying to kill Amazee Daisies lmao
Please keep making videos! They are high quality and entertaining and you deserve so many more subscribers than you have right now! I love your content
I remember you said you would do a Chrono Trigger challenge run if you had an idea for one. What about the Scavenger challenge? I've seen it in Paper Mario, it's basically no shopping so you can only use gear and items that you find in chests or from enemies.
33:25 AAAAHHH!!! AMAZY DAYZEE!? Those things can be deadly! They tend to fight slightly more often in the Pit of 100 Trials than their original location. If you’re not prepared for them, you’d better hightail it and rethink your preparations. What’s worse is you could run into 2 of them at once in the same battle while in the pit. If both were to attack, we’re talking 40HP of damage here, and possibly falling asleep. If that happens, you’re as good as dead.
Did you know about heroes quest it's one of the most obscure things about this game. First step beat the game. Second step make 100 phone calls in glitzville. Third step beat the pit of 100 trials. Then you fight phone tail which is just bone tail but a phone head then you get a special pipe that brings you to Mario's house. Then you roll underneath Mario's bed then you get hero's crest
I know it's a specific thing to point out, but I like the Calamity Mod Abyss miniboss theme for the deeper levels of the pit, really fitting in more ways than one
It's my first time watching a video of yours, but I absolutely loved this one!! The calm, insightful commentary along with the great edits made it very enjoyable. I just got the TTYD remake and have been loving it, plan to watch a lot more of your videos now :D
Defeating bonetail awards you the return postage badge, which you can sell for 500 coins. I utilized the "danger mario" method to blow through the pit of 100 trials... stocked up on power rush badges, lowered my HP to the bare minimum, jacking up the BP from 30 to 108, then equipping like 3 dozen power rush badges, multi bounce and power bounce badges. Damage output depends on how many power rush badges you equipped. I got mario`s damage output to over 100 pts per shot... very helpful in winning back the championship belt by one-shotting every opponent... and the same goes with the pit of 100 trials.
Are you claiming to have done this at a lower level then intended for the pit, in the original game? 3 dozen badges would require a lot of BP, not to mention the FP cost...it's also way harder to get multiples of badges in the original, especially before you even finish the prologue...
@@PointsofData i went to chet rippo's house to convert all but 5 HP to BP... The power rush badges came from the pinata parlor. Each power rush badges only costs 1 BP to equip. Max badge pts allowed is 99.
Mighty impressive showing. Actually, I think the odds of an HP Plus P drop are even worse in the pit, so that's an especially lucky drop. One day, I need to complete this. Tried doing this with a max 10 HP, but it's brutal... OH WOW, THOSE ICE JETS WERE BRUTAL.
Wow that awesome well done :D! I'd heard of this challenge before but never seen a video on it or attempted it myself. I did do the pit myself many years ago but only after beating the game xD! Always fun to see TTYD runs :D!
What are the odds that nintendo makes a remake of this game right after I buy I game cube for my gf with this game. Im glad you made this video and happy you had fun playing, I wanted to see if the 100 levels were worth going through and I ended up really enjoying your vibes man.
@3:30 I did this because my superguards are shit mostly in the middle floors (40-69 and probably a little bit further). I'm going to keep trying, but after 7 tries I got down to floor 72 on my last run. I get closer and closer each time but daaang this is a superguard heavy challenge. I know from previous Pit runs I can superguard most of the baddies from 81 on down, I just need to get there. If anyone is attempting this, use my experience as inspiration and not discouragement. Keep a clear head and don't give up, we'll get there eventually!
19:00 Luckiest stage hazard RNG in TTYD be like. But nah fr, this is such a huge step-up from No Action Commands, and you doing it on your FIRST TRY even with you getting Pretty Lucky (get it?) here and there, is still such an insane accomplishment.
Few hints: -Any variant of Fuzzy is immediately disabled by ZapTap. They have to latch on first and attack once when they try to seperate. ZapTap nips the latching part in the bud and they straight up take 1 damage without retaliation. Same goes for Swoopers, though if they decide to directly attack and not leech you, you take normal damage -Any Lakitu variant will lose their carriage ~and a pontential reinforcement~ if they take damage by whatever means. -Standard Wizzerd and white ones (not yellow ones) will split if it is the last enemy, instead of attacking. You get 1 free turn out of this. An aoe (FireFlower/Icestorm) or anything that hits multiple enemies at once will get rid of clones. If they hold an item though, you can spot the real one easily: Clones do not hold anything -Any Bristle variant can be flipped with a Quake ability (POWBlock, Quake Hammer, Tremor), still: do NOT use a direct hammer attack, they WILL cast out their side spikes if you get close. As any other flipped-over rock type, they lose their defense completely
For the pokeys, you'll need to equip the spike shield badge. If you utilize the danger mario method like beardbear, profasiagaming does, you'll make short work of any opponent. Be sure to equip multibounce and Power bounce, and be sure to equip 24 to 36-plus power rush badges.
On my prologue run, I hit a poison shroom bingo during bonetail which made all of the audience go away for at least a good 20 turn where I was just trying to survive without sweet treat, I don’t even know how I still got it
I'm new to the channel so, sorry if this has been responded before... will you cover the remaster of TTYD on Switch? Like vids, challenges and whatever you feel like. Also, I really like your vids, your comedy, your edits, music, everything really. You don't cross the cringy barrier like many tubers of the same genre. Good for you bro, keep it up. You got a new sub here.
I'm definitely gonna be buying it and making some kind of video on it! Not sure if I'll do a review of it since I'm not sure if this audience would be super interested in that, but I'll cover it and compare it to the original in some fashion I'm sure!
I'm imagining what kind of nightmare this challenge would be if you were only allowed to use powerups and items that you could get without exploits and no dropped badges or items... that would be a nightmare.
When the remake comes out I'm def doing a pre hooktail run, but I wonder if someone will find new glitches to do this prologue version within a week. If so, I'll try this challenge.

The original calls Bonetail a "him". But in the remake, Bonetail is a "she"
So Goombella's tattle is both wrong and correct. :3
Love the Triangle Strategy music
Wow that awesome well done :D!
I'd heard of this challenge before but never seen a video on it or attempted it myself. I did do the pit myself many years ago but only after beating the game xD!
Always fun to see TTYD runs :D!
What are the odds that nintendo makes a remake of this game right after I buy I game cube for my gf with this game. Im glad you made this video and happy you had fun playing, I wanted to see if the 100 levels were worth going through and I ended up really enjoying your vibes man.
It is interesting that you did it on your 1st try and big congrats 🎉
@3:30
I did this because my superguards are shit mostly in the middle floors (40-69 and probably a little bit further).
I lost it at "Yessssss!... I should NOT have done that" 😂😂😂
Few hints:
-Any variant of Fuzzy is immediately disabled by ZapTap. They have to latch on first and attack once when they try to seperate. ZapTap nips the latching part in the bud and they straight up take 1 damage without retaliation.
Same goes for Swoopers, though if they decide to directly attack and not leech you, you take normal damage
-Any Lakitu variant will lose their carriage ~and a pontential reinforcement~ if they take damage by whatever means.
-Standard Wizzerd and white ones (not yellow ones) will split if it is the last enemy, instead of attacking. You get 1 free turn out of this. An aoe (FireFlower/Icestorm) or anything that hits multiple enemies at once will get rid of clones. If they hold an item though, you can spot the real one easily: Clones do not hold anything
-Any Bristle variant can be flipped with a Quake ability (POWBlock, Quake Hammer, Tremor), still: do NOT use a direct hammer attack, they WILL cast out their side spikes if you get close.
Nice run!
9:51 Well damn, that escalated quickly 😅
You're underrated af
Another important item is the strange sack, which doubles the items capacity to 20.
When the remake comes out I'm def doing a pre hooktail run, but I wonder if someone will find new glitches to do this prologue version within a week. If so, I'll try this challenge.
Good Video
crowd events aren't random they all have triggers. I'm pretty sure the bob-omb one is triggered by fire damage.
I heard that usage of the Calamity soundtrack.. Good taste.
