When Fuki's voice changed she was singing from the perspective of the princess that is trapped in the Tower of Blood.

She is singing as the princess who is locked in a tower with two personalities, one going crazy and one sane. She is going crazy because all the knights who come to rescue her are getting killed in bloody death. Oh, and JILL (v) is a real deal. She is a graduate of the most prestigious ART and Music University in Japan. She's also won awards in several competitions.

In a world where dazzling technical skill and vast musical knowledge count for anything, this would be one of the biggest bands in history. Time to learn some names and background:
Shiren, founder and one of the guitarists, also does the growls. Fumiya (Drums) is, as you saw, insane and inexhaustible-one of the best rock drummers in the world. Jinya (G) and Ogawa (B) are solid as well. Fumiya and Ogawa also have interesting, “beast” personae which contrast with the “beauty” of Fuki and Jill. That contrast is a deliberate trope, similar to the “Beauty and the Beast” imagery of many European symphonic metal bands.
Fuki (lead singer) is a legend in Japan, and one of the busiest artists anywhere. She is lead singer for UM, Doll$boxx, Lightbringer and her own ongoing project, Fuki Commune. Her style is very much out of the Japanese classical tradition, with the oversold vibrato and intense high notes. She collaborates with a lot of the top musical talents in Japan. Jill (violin) also has a busy dance card, including collaborations with Fuki outside UM.
Jill is actually my favorite member of Unlucky Morpheus. I consider her the best rock/jazz/metal violinist in the world today, and probably the best since Jean-Luc Ponty. After Shiren (founder, original lead guitarist) started suffering from an injury that limits his playing, they rewrote a lot of his solos for Jill. Here are links to instrumentals featuring her in UM’s instrumental project Quadratum:

Fuki sings from 3 different perspectives in this song, and that is why you hear the voice changes.
Unlucky Morpheus a band that took 8 years to come together. They started off in 2008 with just Shrien and Fuki doing Touhou arrangement albums, Touhou is a video game series in Japan and very popular. After a while fans wanted to see them live so they asked some friends to help them out live. Some they would get in with a view of adding them to the band, and slowly over time they added members, with Jill being the last in around 2015/16. Jill was the odd one out, as after Shiren her her play for the 1st time knew it was someone he had to have in the band, for the sound she would give them, they used to use keyboards up until that point. Also Shiren knew Ogawa from music college, but he was a jazz musician and still is, as he also plays in a popular jazz band in Japan.
Jill is just so good, and adds so much to the band. Do not know if you have seen this 【Live Cover】Eruption(Van Halen) ~ The Dance of Eternity(Dream Theater) ruclips.net/video/XC2A1hbuLmI/видео.html If not watch it, you will not regret it.
The triangle sound could be one of Fumiya's small symbols.
I have met them at a meet and greet, and they are really nice people. Jill is a bit shy, and Fuki just over flows with infectious enthusiasm.

Shiren is playing a Strandberg headless guitar. He chose it in large part to cut down on weight due to a hand issue (tenosynovitis) he has had for years. It's possible that you may have seen him playing a guitar on a guitar stand in other videos. It's difficult for him to hold a guitar for long periods of time and he found these particular guitars to have a weight and sound that he is fine with. There is an interview with Shiren on BARKS Japan Music Network news (reposted on reddit as well) that was done on March 22 of this year where he talks extensively about his guitars.

I love Unlucky Morpheus so much, it's a shame after so many years in the stage they are so underrated. It's true that Jill (the violinist) adds immensely to their sound for the last four years or so and Fuki full commitment to the band it's just a year or two before that (she had a lot of side projects). I enjoy very much their live songs, so much quality (not that their MVs are bad, not at all).

For more focus on violinist Jill, see ruclips.net/video/E2hZDzJp9Pc/видео.html - a quartet from Unlucky Morpheus with Jill in the lead.
Jill was originally in a duet with her (singer) brother called Rose Noire, spent some time in Hollow Mellow before moving to Unlucky Morpheus. She has also done some of her own covers on her channel. Oh, and she has classical music awards in her past too - no surprise there.

They are still doing things with Rose Noire. Jill has not long since put up a new channel call Jill Noire, there are only 2 video's in which she just talks.

Fuki is a part time anime song singer. She sang a couple songs from anime. And thats her anime voice when she sang anime songs. She used to want to be a anime voice actor when she was young and she trained herself to sound that way.

This is not the original video for Tower of Blood. The original video has a violin intro, but that video has been pulled from RUclips. That original video did have a lot of views. UM have recently been pulling unofficial videos from RUclips. They have however left up the reactions to the pulled videos. If you want so see the full original video, check out Oldskulenerd's reaction to Tower of Blood 🤘😊🤘

Probably, in my opinion, the three biggest reasons why their videos don't have a lot of views and their official channel doesn't have a lot of subs are, 1) metal is non-existent in Japan's music industry. All these bands you "reacted to" on your channel are moderately popular on RUclips, but they all play in live houses (music clubs) with a few hundred max capacity for their tours and in venues with 1 - 1.5k capacity for their bigger concerts. 2) they're an independent band, so there's not really any budget for PR and stuff like that. 3) most (especially younger) metal fans these days are all about chugging and breakdowns. The song could be a technical masterpiece, but if there aren't at least 3 breakdowns with a lot of growling most kids aren't interested.

    • @NerdChannelBrasil
      @NerdChannelBrasil 2 года назад +2

Metal is non-existent in Japan's music industry is not true at all. Is just that Japanese market is basically closed to local fans only. Japan has the second bigger music market in the world, but they just focus in Japan itself, so yeah.

    • @ANDOR-
      @ANDOR- 2 года назад +1

@@NerdChannelBrasil I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say. Definitely agree what you're saying, but I was trying to talk about the "mainstream music industry". Music that charts, is played on TV music shows or used as theme music for movies or tv series. The majority of young people in Japan are probably more likely able to list 80 AKB48 members than 5 metal bands. A friend of mine who lived in Japan for a few years gave up explaining what metal is after the third or fourth time and just started saying "rock... stuff like Scandal for example" everytime she was asked by her high school students what her favorite music is.

Great reaction and I've also wondered why they don't get more views, maybe a anti-violin bias? I though I read somewhere that the band co-founder, Shiren, found inspiration in Paganini, so the violin would fit for his compositions.

Only the singer (Fuki) and the violinist (Jill) are women. Then you have the dudes Fumiya (drums), Ogawa (bass), and two monster guitars in Jinya and Shiren (who need a very light neckless guitar sometimes in a pedestal for shoulder problems, also the screamer in several songs and leader/songwriter of UM). Yes they are one of the best band I ever listen to, and I do not like the irrational fanaticism for bands so this is pure honesty for my part.

At first, I thought, "You talk too much!"
But what he says is more accurate than any other Reactor, and he notices a lot of details.
why does he talk so much
The reason is that UM's music is packed with various gimmicks and difficult techniques in a short amount of time.
If I were to explain them one by one, I think it would be a huge amount.
In other words, I think that he is listening to each note accurately.
*Sentences were created by automatic translation, so if you don't understand the meaning, I'm sorry

Just wish Fuki would quit abusing her poor vibrato. I think she needs to go visit Yuko and take some lessons. But the rest of the band is on fire. Love Jill!!!! Can listen to her playing all day!
