No one pressured me to be like this. This is the result of several entire years of research and trying things out to see what made me happy, because before this, I was fucking miserable. Brainwashing, by its definition, sounds more like what people like you tried to do to people like me. threatening safety, calling me and others like me insane for merely doing whatever makes life the most bearable.
Verbally harassing people and telling them they're wrong for doing something that literally does not involve other people would be considered a form of brainwashing.

I just want to say thank you to Against Me! for this song. Not because it's a favorite by any means (personally tracks like Rebecca and Haunting Haunted Haunts off this new album are more my speed) but because my infant literally loves this song. Sometimes when the kiddo is tired, doesn't want to nurse, doesn't want to be rocked, none of my usual tricks are working, I put this song on and he mellows right out. Usually only have to play it twice and he goes to sleep. For that alone I am eternally grateful.

I know I'm not the first to say this, but I think Laura sounds like Freddy Mercury, and I mean that in the most complimentary way. My daughter got me into this band and they are one of my favorites. It's a good thing at 45 to still be getting "favorite bands" in your life...

This is probably my favorite Against Me! video (except maybe FUCKMYLIFE666).
They're just having fun playing a catchy song. James and Inge were singing along with Laura, there was makeup, Atom got to shoot someone, and it looked like it was just an all-around great time.

I gotta be honest, the first time I watched this video I didn't like it, but now it's really grown on me seeing the carefree vibe everyone gives off and especially how happy Laura looks.
The guitar tone is straight up Space Ace. Love how they paid tribute to KISS and had fun with it. I think it's a good song that would work well in the middle of a set and people would have fun with it. Good song. A bridge wouldn't hurt, though.

Wow, so much hate in the comments and for what reason? The saying, "everyone's a critic" has never been more true than it is in this day and age. The lot of you judge and critique this way to rationally and literally when this song and normally, Against Me on a whole isn't typically either of those, except maybe, at times, extremely literal to the point you can't fathom how non-metaphorical it is. Fans that say "I prefer this or that from whenever" is another typical statement that means nothing. You were never a fan to begin with if you can't realize that Against Me has always changed and progressed. Of course I have my own personal favorite songs and albums but that doesn't mean that anything else is bad. In fact, Against Me is my favorite band and everything they've ever done is amazing, it just so happens that particular pieces came into my life at particular times that made a bigger impact. You are the most hypocritical and contradicting type of people. Like football 'fans' who only back and support their team when they are winning and then turn around to trash them when they fuck up a play. Point is; they did what was right by them and what they thought best at the time of doing it. It doesn't mean the teams sucks now. Thank all of you captain hindsight's out there. But if all of you were so God damn musically inclined, perhaps you might be the one making the music you thought was best instead of being a loser behind a keyboard insulting music that you can't even wrap your head around . Don't be mad at the band or the football team because your life sucks, because I'm pretty sure that the band doesn't care what you think, obviously, having written a song and made a music video that they were likely almost certain a few people weren't going to like but did it anyway because fuck you. Difference between awesome band being awesome and loser behind a computer being a loser is; you obviously believe that all that matters is what people think and on that notion, you do simple things that do not require you having to think for yourself because if you did try to think for yourself, people would probably tell you what they thought, and it would likely be that you suck, and that's why you don't to begin with. "To avoid criticism, say nothing, do nothing, be nothing." -Aristotle. Point being, Laura is still jumping around and smiling in the video as you scroll down to type out your comment. But honestly, the song is great and I'm loving the new sound, regardless of what style or direction that the band has moved, one thing has always stayed the same: There is just a 'feeling' that Against Me & Laura have always given me through the music that can't be described in words, nor can it be critiqued, reviewed or judged in words by those people who don't get the 'feeling' and aura that Against Me vibrates. If you don't get get it, then you don't get it, and if you don't get it, your opinion isn't relevant to me, or any other Against Me fan or the band itself. I promise that you will never see me in the comment section of your favorite bands newest music video talking shit. And why? Because I really just don't care as much as you apparently do. But fuck all..... Haha... I typed, 'but fuck' and wasn't even trying. I will always, always, always love the old punk days and among my favorite era will always be the folk-ey, home grown roots sound, (as I'm a Floridian and smoke cigarettes in strip mall parking lots) but I love this new stuff just as much because it still ignites that 'feeling' deep down inside of me that takes me to places that only I know aaaaaand your dumb fucking opinion isn't relevant there. Hmm it's interesting how her vocals are after going from Tom to Laura. They still sound the same, but I can tell they have a feminine inflection. Kinda cool. I was worried the transition would fuck up her voice. But its still awesome
AH! I kept telling myself that her vocals weren't changing, bc they weren't, and I knew they wouldn't with hormones, and she wasn't trying to change her voice. and yet they sounded different! I couldn't figure out how until you pointed it right out, her inflection has become feminine! a revelation lol
The truth about how her voice is changing is that she is becoming more and more happy and seems to be feeling more and more like who she truly is inside is finally being externalized after decades of burying herself under societal expectations. She's digging herself out, and I feel like every new album will sound more and more like who she really is inside until several decades of forced masculinity from the public eye has been cleared away completely.
I'm not trans, but this is how it feels to finally overcome any aspect of yourself you've kept hidden, so I imagine all that time before she transitioned has got to have left some heavy fucking rubble in her path.
Is she happier? I mean, too often punk doesn't let you be happy and it doesn't seem clear based on album titles and words that she is happier.
pyta rew Interviews, my dude. In general, she seems happier in more recent interviews compared to a few older ones. And, of course, that doesn't mean she was completely unhappy with her life before she transitioned, but you can just tell that there is a little bit of a weight when she was younger that seems lighter now. And maybe that's just me, because I tend to pick up on these things easier than some people? Maybe I am also just reading more into it than needs to be.
I always thought that Laura’s voice didn’t fit her when she was Tom.
