I'm 7 years younger than my husband and my stepsons were born when I was still in HS. They're in their early and mid 20s now and were raised mostly country music because of their mother and her husband. I came along and introduced them to Pearl Jam, Depeche Mode, dubstep, tears for fears, Fallout Boy, The Smiths, and they just loved it. They'd come over and I'd have the stereo cranked while cleaning the house and dancing/jamming. The oldest now has at least half my playlist on his phone now. 😂

@SwastikaHinduSansrkit Thanks. 😊 I do have a pretty cool story from my childhood and told the boys in their early teens about it. ..My dad was in a pretty popular Houston band in the 80s when i was a kid. They would play at Fitzgerald's which is like a Houston music staple. Anyway.. .I believe it was 1988-89ish give or take a year when Red Hot Chili Peppers was going to be playing there on their very first small tour after their first album. They get to Houston on the bus/rv but the truck with their equipment does not. So, my dad's band left theirs on stage after their set for them and I have pictures of my dad and a baby faced Flea on stage with my dad's bass and behind them you can see my dad's best friend and the singer with a very young and skinny Athony....then you see me at about 10 years old in a very 80s looking outfit with the singers daughter just totally acting cool and, like so mature. 😎 Anyway it was cool in high school when they became huge with BSSM and I had photographic proof I "knew them". 🤣Anyway, the stepsons came over to a pool party get together at my dad's and a band reunion and they just loved it. That story came up and I broke out the pictures one more time. 🙃 I think that's when they became more interested in music other than country and pop.
I would give anything to go back to this day...we were so fucking beautiful!!

Playing Guitar Hero I heard “Even Flow”. When my dad died Ten was one of the thousand or so CD’s he had. It’s now one of my favorite albums of all time. Just checked out the book “Twenty” from the library. According to the book, Ten was released not even a year after the band was formed. Such an awesome band. Eddie’s voice is so authentic. I love Pearl Jam

He really committed himself to singing his songs. Read his type of singing words was called: Yarlying. If spelled right.
Think it's yarling? If I'm not mistaken
Yarling was a derogatory term created to make fun of singers that came after Eddie Vedder and tried to copy his style. Post grunge bands like Creed (just to name one) flooded the market and turned the singing style into an overused joke. It may be retroactively applied to Vedder now but it wasn’t called that at the time he became popular.

@@deathstarstallion I personally don’t think Layne and Eddie sing the same way but it doesn’t surprise me that people retroactively apply ‘yarling’ to layne as well. Like ‘grunge’, it’s just another term used to lump bands together and dismiss them based on oversaturation of the music scene of that kind of music in late 90’s. I still blame the bands that came after PJ, AIC, etc. for that oversaturation (and the record companies of course).
Also, I’m not biting on the bait of who was first (Layne or Eddie) or who was better.
