TOOL REACTIONS
"Oh no, it's a long Tool video." Said no one ever.
Never ever....
Never ever ever...
CorkHose The Tool family is a very special family.
As long as most Tool songs are, they always feel like they are just as long as they have to be. There is no fluff.
indeed fellow human
I remember most of us Tool fans thinking this album was a little dull on the first listen. Then we realized, we just weren’t ready yet. Now on listen 437, it’s still clicking more and more.
Tremendous comment right here
Nah it is dull. It's a weak album. But it's ok. They have great past.
Expectations weren’t met- but I’m glad they weren’t. Bc we were gifted something we wouldn’t have chosen, but is oh so good for the soul. The wife and I listened to this album every night before bed for a year after it came out, and this track is the climax of the album.
That's what I love about Tool and in particular this song. I've listened to it at least 437 times and it gets better each listen
Absolutely accurate comment. Was disappointed at first by this album, but after more listens it is fairly epic, and the songs take you on a great journey. I would still say that we didn't need the "filler" tracks in between the six or so actual tracks.
I still get chicken skin every time I hear "Sound the dread alarm through our primal body." A masterpiece through and through.
Sound the Dread Alarm is one of the most epic lyrics ever, especially during these here dark times.
Just reading your comment, send shivers down my spine. Same!
yep
SPL ( sound pressure level ) is the key to listening to tool
"RISE!"
"Phew" this was a long video but so worth it. Man, literally drank my full jumbo coffee through the breakdown - so zoooooming right now. BTW, did anybody notice that little third eye chakra marking on the bottom of my thumbnail? - LOL! HAVE AN EPIC/SAFE WEEKEND!
I don't think I've seen a RUclips video of tool of a length where the fans have given up. We're a tenacious bunch with a lot of patience
If you want an excellent one thats 15mins long try a prog rock song 'Big big train - Atlantic Cable'. Keepin modern prog alive just like tool awwwrittteee!
I didn't do the math, but I'm going to call it right now; you could probably take an international flight and not make it all the way through all of the music Tool has produced. They could put out a 24 hour album digitally and I would def pick it up and listen to it all the way through.
This is my favorite song by my favorite band. Watching you light up for the build up near the end reminded me of my first time hearing it: You can't help but smile so brightly at how powerful it is! Great review! (side note I think you're right about Danny doing the synth in D for dahdahdah dahdah, it stops right as he kicks in with Adam and Justin playing the same notes together, I can totally see Danny pulling that off no problem!)
Geeeeeeeeeeebz... I'm turning 40 tomorrow. Catch a wave for me!
I'm 46 and have been a Tool fan since the very beginning. My two cents? This might be the greatest song they've ever written. Top 5 bare minimum.
Agreed
46 & 2 cents lol
@@cmillspa1 🤯
Excellent judge of quality. This song is the bees knees. Now, just need to have the masses circle back to the title track, which were certainly weren’t ready for when it released.
With you.
This whole album is a work of art. It gets better every time you listen to it
I agree. Several of my friends who love Tool but don’t have a deeper understanding of music we slightly disappointed with FI when it first came out. I get pretty strongly that more people would appreciate it with time. Having an average track length over 10 minutes is a major obstacle for the typical music listener who has been conditioned their whole life that a five minute song is an epic ballad.
Totally agree. I liked it from the start and have just grown to love it. I can play it on a continuous loop and never tire of it.
I can attest to this. I truly loved it from the start, but had many friends who were meh about it when it came out and have totally come around to the album. And I personally have grown to love it more.
@@AgentZ1011 absolutely agreed. I loved the album from the start but I feel as if just as a listener I’ve matured over the years. Same as I think the band has as artists collectively and individually. I grew up a hardcore kid and music just couldn’t be heavy enough or angry enough. Now I’ve mellowed out and love this album for exactly what it is. I have a lot of friends who love tool but were disappointed with the album and I think it’s because they just want another Undertow or Aenima record. They always reference seeing them back in the 90’s when Maynard was a madman and the band was just more wild. And as much as I love those days of Tool, I love these days. Their maturity in songwriting and overall technique/skill absolutely shines on FI. If this were to be their last album, I think it’s a great opus for them to retire on as a band, and especially for Adam.
This song is so very personal to me. It’s the last song that me and my dad listened to before he died this year. Nice breakdown! 🔥
Oh man, that brings a tear to my eye. While losing a father is heartbreaking (lost mine to suicide in 2017), this is such a great song to have shared with him. It's my personal favorite song - listened to it hundreds of times. However, I still learned a lot from the breakdown and now appreciate it even more.
Thank you for sharing that!
Sad to hear about your father, but I'm glad you two got to share that music experience together
That's sad, sorry man. I'm glad you got to enjoy it with your dad though.
I would die happy if this was the last song I ever heard.
Sorry to hear about your father passing. My father passed away six and a half months before FI dropped. I can't even begin to tell you how bad or what I would give to show this album to my dad!! He was a Navy veteran and to show him Invincible would've been the best!!
One day at a time brother!
The whole album was very much Maynard singing his part and then letting the rest of the band show off, more than any other album for sure.
It sure is! It is interesting that Tool as a band (Danny, Adam, and Justin) compose the music first and then Maynard constructs his vocals/lyrics to the song. It makes sense when you hear subs like Descending.
Facts. Is becoming my second favorite for that reason.
I think I read somewhere he only sings for about 25-30 minutes on the entire album.
And he does his part well because Maynard sounds absolutely beautiful on this album..... this is definitely the best his vocals have ever been from a technical standpoint
@@greigns7781 different techniques/technology for sure on the vocals on this album!
If you're really looking for a Justin Chancellor bass masterclass, you gotta listen to Invincible
He did Invincible 2-3 weeks back. Awwright!
Sorry 1 month ago!
The tonal movement of Adam's guitar work in this is like nothing else I've heard. The choices he makes in his "solos" here, especially the 2nd one are so unexpected and varied. One of the best minimalist guitarists. You highlight one of the key things about their compositions, the spacing and room. Less is more sometimes and this track is the evidence of it.
If you're referring to the solo the starts around the 15-16 minute mark in this video, that sound is the Plasma pedal by Game Changer. Saw footage of them using it while shaping the tone in the studio for the album with no indication of what song they were going to record. Once that moment happened in the song it was undeniably that pedal.
I remember when I first heard that riff as a tease off the new album. ruclips.net/video/3dNlU0MZ__4/видео.html
He put more solos in this song than he did in his entire discography in the past, haha
Yep. You don't have to show off to show off. LOL
I love Adam. He is truly a minimalist but impactful and memorable.
Minimalist is an incredible compliment. Fear Inoculum is easily the most Adam has ever "cut loose" on an entire album before, and even then it's done with complete mindfulness towards using an economy of notes to get the job done.
I feel like Maynard got this and looked at the second half of this song, and couldn’t find a single place where he could make it better because it’s so damn perfect.
I have this picture in my head of him sitting in his truck under the Arizona stars listening to this and going “shit…..i think I’ll just stop right here.”
The real answer is that Maynard recorded in 2017 expecting the songs to be final, but then the other band members kept disagreeing about the arrangements and started changing. They had already moved pieces around a lot when Maynard did his "final" recordings, but this was it for him and this album, he considered his work "done" and he let the other 3 "duke it out" as he said. He expressed some irritation with how this album was done, because I think it simply got too long in the tooth for him. I'm sure he'll still be working on the next album but according to him the other band members have gained a bit too much of "this is good because of me" complex, so they keep shuffling things around trying to make it too perfect.
@@linkenski sounds likely
@@linkenski where did you see this? Maynard has said quite often that with the past couple albums, he did not write the melody and lyrics until the other three were positive they were done because the earlier albums were where he would write then have to rewrite several times because the others would change the music.
@@jonathangreenblatt5921 And he did this for this album, but there's one where he said he finished up the final recordings a year before the album released and he hadn't really thought about it since, but he let the other 3 "duke it out". So I think they changed a lot and that's why there are places where he just doesn't really sing. He has a couple of interviews where he expresses that he got a little fed up with the work dynamic.
@@GhaleonEB ….that’s exactly what I’d do!
The section of the song around 14:00 in this video Geebz - I honestly lack the words to properly describe it. It's so triumphant. Gets my blood going and almost has a tear or two flowing every time I hear Maynard propel us with 'Elementary, muster every fibre. Mobilize. Stay alive.'
Powerful section!
This so much. From the line "Sound the dread alarm" my hair stands on end and stays that way the entire time through to Maynard's last "Call us all to arms and order." Easily the one song from the album that has gotten the most repeat listens.
My favorite song on FI. A masterpiece. Thank you for this
This song is astonishing. Definitely the best on the album.
Mine too
Amaaaaaaazing!!
And mine.
i cant choose between this and culling voices
This track is one of the best yet underrated tool songs. This is a masterpiece. And the "gong solo" oh man.... gives me shivers every time
word...
I thought the same thing. Actually it’s my 3rd favorite Tool song. That’s saying a lot. Has anyone ever felt the entire album feels like a fever dream. Maybe it’s just me but the album somehow makes me feel weird every time I listen to it
@@duggiedug9148 I have it to the point that I can't ever tell which Tool song is the best, they are all the best, and yet this one is one of the few I return to.
@@arkanis5249I think this is the pinnacle of all their talents. All doing their best at what they do best..
That "gong solo"..first time i heard it was live in May of 2019. Full shivers and goosebumps for sure! I didn't quite realize the true masterpiece I was witnessing at the time, but I knew i was seeing and listening to something really special.
Let's be honest you can't react to a bad Tool song. However, Tool deserve an album reaction!!!
That would be dope. The video would probably also be like two hours long lol.
I 100% agree !! Like one song at a time but in the tracklist's order.
Lateralus from start to finish 🤟
I agree, and Lateralus would be amazing but Opiate is something like 26 minutes(way more practical for a first time full album listen). Also I don't think he's done any songs of that album.
@Danny Carvajal Geebz's first Netflix production?
THE PACKAGE - A PERFECT CIRCLE
Hey! Geebz is back onto the Tool! This song was a monster live. The payoff to me is when Danny and Justin get locked into that double bass roll. With that and their legendary light show in concert, this track was absolutely captivating. Thanks for posting G, always a treat to see your reactions.
My favourite song from the show.... I had been waiting to hear that crescendo at the end of the double bass live from the first time listening to the album. It was enveloping and the light show was perfect waves of light sweeping over the crowd.
Cheers
@@stephenthomson6230 I was lucky enough to catch it at both shows I saw in 19, my jaw dropped both times. Incredible tour, pity it got cut short because I dropped dime for a third show in Miami that sadly never happened. You've got good taste my friend!
Yes, it was brilliant, I saw them at Download festival in the UK in June or July 19, just before the album came out
@@stefanba2029 Right on! Louisville KY and Cincinnati OH here in the colonies for me. It was May and November for us if I remember correctly. It was a great tour, considering the new material after such a wait. Pity the pandemic cut it short. Cheers!
Those orange lasers that shot straight out were so unexpected. One thing I noticed because I saw them center stage, was that during the build to the big drop, the regular red lights were lowered and they ended up making a pentagram in the smoke.
Complexity... 7/8, 7/8, 9/8, 7/8, 7/8, 9/8, 9/8, 9/8, 11/8, etc... And all the while sounding beautiful... I can't help feel Tool has taught me to play and think in 7 and 11 timing... Thank you Tool.
I thought I had 5/8 time in there somewhere….and then I was off lol
And thank you for that!
@Danny Carvajal True lol
@@djuengst2000 There's 5/8 preceded by 6/8 in some places - though it could just as easily be 3/8, 3/8, 3/8, 2/8; or just 11/8... Depends on the flow of the passage, I guess.
My personal favorite of the new album.
Tempest
Same here, Descending is probably my favourite Tool song tbh
Mine too.
This has become my favorite Tool song.
Mine, too! Favorite song from favorite band
5:44 don't rate yourself down, you're 184k subs strong, means you offer sth that people appreciate 😌❤️
This is the most underrated song on this album. My personal favorite on the album. Adam Jones has the skill to take over a song if he chose to. But he’s always been the type of guitarist that sacrifices his guitar skills for the sake of the band sounding great as a unit. Justin as well and Danny of course. That’s why unlike many other bands they have stayed together for as long as they have. Adam Jones and Tom Morello of RATM are insane guitarists and friends since back in the early 90s and they both sacrifice their skills for the better of the band. I have always said Adam Jones is severely underrated as a lead guitarist. Amazing guitar work on this song.
I made the mistake of first listen to this album while I was walking through the mall and tears started flowing down my eyes. I didn´t know what hit me and I stopped and tried to find out what was happening with me. Chills down my spine like someone was dripping ice water down my back, lump in my throat and crying like crazy.
I never listened to another band that can do that.
During that solo, right?
This song did that to me actually ! Wow crazy that happened to someone else. I don’t feel emotionally unstable anymore lol
I choke up every single time I listen to this song. No idea why.
@@nickskrtic2788 Because it is a masterpiece.
That solo hits me hard every time I hear it tbh.
You should do a lyrical break down Of Tool "Invincible". Lyrically amazing. Kinda tells you where the band members are in theirs lives.
Yes!
Yes! Please! One of my faves!
And this song too. I feel like this song is a call to action. Not necessarily in regards to what is going on in the real world but a fantasy world where the people have to fight back. Where Maynard's vocals is the voice of their leader, which is his persona on stage at this time. The lyrics are his speech to the people.
One of the most lyrically straight forward and relatable Tool songs
It’s just fun to listen along with someone who appreciates this band.
Danny does indeed have his pad tuned to that synth bass D. One of the things I love about this track is Danny takes on melody in his rhythm. I could be wrong on this but I believe the swelling synth is Adam and he has a synth with foot pedals
yea ur right he synth at 21:40 is adams foot synth
He really seems to be our generation's Neil Peart. A true master of his craft.
@@bones4786 I think is the one called Taurus pedals
@@csepi333 It's an Access Virus being controlled by a Roland PK-5 foot controller.
@@moviescolin Yeah im not an expert, but this roland pedals looks like the one he uses. I heared them reffered as Taurus pedals in a rig rundown vid here on yt. I must have mistaken…
This is one of my favourites from the last album, the one that "shined" after listening to all of Fear Inoculum. Love jamming with it on guitar. Aaaawright!
"Stir us from our wanton slumber" is the theme for the last 2 years.
Wantons are good lol. I get hungry when I hear that lyric
Easily my favorite Tool song. Otherworldly experience live!
@Danny Carvajal Thanks man
Awwwwwwwweewwwriiiigghht

Descending is exactly what's happening in the world.
The goosebumps the tears the passion it has it all. 💥💞
OH WOW - it's finally time! Been waiting for this one. Tool army checking in! Keep it up Geebz! :)
Danny is without a doubt the reason why Tool is Tool. He sets the tone perfectly for all the tribal things you talked about in other videos, while playing astounding drumming. A true beast.
I read people putting Danny down for not being fast. If Danny wanted to play faster, he would. He gets the gut with his deep rhythms.
@@lrwiersum Those who criticize a Drum God like him have absolutely mo idea about drums. Period.
@@lrwiersumSame with Adam. He CAN shred, as seen on "7empest". But why do that when you can make it sound so much better by focusing on the tone and sound quality playing longer notes instead of just playing a bunch of useless 32nd notes or something that doesnt fit the overall feel of the song as a whole.
Haven’t watched the video yet and in fact I don’t have time to watch it right now, will have to return later. But I immediately liked and subscribed. ❤️
As a giant tool fan this song and album took a few listens before I was hooked in.. but once you see what they were going for it makes a lot of sense almost composed like in classical form where they give you the soundscape and accent patterns first then they go into the song and once you get that it becomes addicting to listen to,especially, after a bit of DMT etc :)..Its quite the experience ♥
I have been a tool fan since undertow and I didn't like this album at first, turns out I just wasn't mentally ready to go deep into the fray with them. Well, I went there this weekend and omg, i think this is their best work, I am awed.

Thank you for this. This album, and especially this song has been an engine for my transformation, at 36 I returned back to training, losing weight, ditching excess alcohol, and so I'm curing my anxiety/depression cycle I've been in for last few years. This song came in the midst of my transformation period and still keeps me focused and motivated for change!
MAN. I've only given this full album a listen once and originally found myself to say "Eh, it's all right", but after giving this song another listen, it freaking jams.
This track is truly one of their greatest!!
Sir…we waited 14 years. It’s worth going back to. My brother isn’t a big fan of it because it’s basically only 6 songs and they are all 10+ minutes. I on the other hand can’t listen to it without getting chills. Each fan gets to have their own take on this album. But for god’s sakes, listen to it a few more times then decide!
Whole album gets better after every listen.
Thought you said it's freaking james
This is this album in a nutshell. It only gets better as you listen over and over. I was underwhelmed when I heard the album. I was like 14 years for this? But it truly develops with repetition.
I see more negative reviews of this album than any of their others but this is the peoples unwillingness to grow with the band and move away from the expected.
Oh Shit! Been waiting on this. Greatest song ever.
Waiting for this one seems a common theme in the comments.
Descending says to you: I bet you say that to all the Tool songs... They've been hurt before...
Synth is Adam with foot pedals, which he does live and also uses in The Grudge. Brilliant.
Adams guitar in this song!! This was my least favorite song when I first gave the album a listen, but it gets to you and tugs at your emotions every time you listen to it 🙂 one of my favorites now
This is my favorite on this album. My 2nd favorite song ever behind only Lateralus.
I love that you chose to do this one next. I cant wait to see how you react!!

He did Parabol/Parabola already!
@@mkmkmk1337 i went and watched afterward. Thanks for checkin' my ass lol
Parabol/Parabola still my favourite song ever. Perfection. So good it makes me cry on a regular basis
A little secret for all the nerds out there, - Maynard sings "Call us all to arms and order!" and finishes right at the central second of the total track length... 6.49 (and a half) - out of 13.39... I know a lot of that can be fabricated with the soundscape wash before and after, but still very cool.
@Twilight Coda The whole concept of the album is the great turn. We could go either way.
@Twilight Coda - very interesting - I missed that one, as the song doesn't have the explicit 'half vocals/half instrumentals' but it's a strong take:
What happens when we give in to fear/negativity; we can go one of two ways....
Something about 'Use the breath of life to inoculate yourself from fear; fear of others, fear of not being enough, fear of falling being overwhelmed - Exhale; Expel; recast my tale'.
@Twilight Coda which is dorky.. be honest... MITOSIS!!! profound! lol... it's stuff like that, that makes people on the outside go ... what's wrong with you nerds..
@@colinburroughs9871 - Anyone else is welcome to write meaningful lyrics in their songs too... Not every tune can be about booze, bitches and motorcars, despite what some people's tastes might prefer.
Been waiting for this one, still waiting patiently for Deftones rosemary 🤪
Yes, I've been waiting for this one!
This is my fav off of Fear Inoculum album. The flow and sound of the whole song paint a picture that is perfectly represented by the title. You feel like you are descending from beginning to end. The sound of water flowing and breaking, like chaos, rushing in to fill the void left by our demise. Even the main bass line is a descending pattern, if you noticed. And Adams part mirrors it in the sense that it is a descending pattern, overall. Adam is not a show off. He’s a “texture artist.” That’s what he does best. Even his riffs tend to have texture. They sort of set the scenery. He’s the Bob Ross of guitarists! You said it perfect when you mentioned about not adding too much. Just as much as is needed. What belongs. That’s what Adam does.
Bob Ross - that's a great metaphor/description of Adam! Thanks for sharing that! I never really appreciated that aspect of his guitar work before, though I have listened to this song hundreds of times. (My all-time fave)
“The Bob Ross of guitarists” 😂😂😂
My favorite off the new album 😍
So worth the wait! The look on your face when he started rocking the kick on a different time signature than everything else. Easily one of Danny's best drumming performances of all time. Thanks SO MUCH for doing this one!

More Tool, awwright!! Have a great weekend Geebz 😎🤙
I feel like I've been a tool fan my whole life. Found them pre teens and have been listening since, I'm 34. Descending might be my favorite song. They played it live for a few years before FI came out without any vocals and I would listen to just the instrumentals on RUclips over and over again. Even better with lyrics though.

I literally discovered this album yesterday. Blown away by it.
Welcome!
And it only gets better with age.
FINALLY!!! Next cup of coffee earned. Knew it would impact you. Enjoy the next listen alone. My favorite tool track.
You’re right that there is no need for a fancy ‘solo’ in Tools songs. As you say there is plenty going on already. Absolute perfection.
Every time I hear this song I have forgotten how good it is.
Nobody will ever see this, but seeing this song live is life-changing! All the guys up front in a semi-circle with Danny on one of Adam's old guitars (making it look like a ukulele) playing rhythm and Maynard singing the first part seated is just a whole new level.
you're referring to "Culling Voices" live, not "Descending"
This song more than any other on the album is one I really connect with. Amazing tune. I haven't seen this tune live (I had tickets to see Tool in LA in 2019 but my baby girl decided to be born that same day so I missed it!), but you just _know_ that moment when Maynard heads off the stage to let the trio take you to another plane.
Just incredible musicianship. I love this so much.
I'm glad to finally catch one of your releases day-of. Just starting now so let's go! Alright!
Not sure if calling it a ‘tune’ is a bit of a disservice. It’s a fucking masterpiece!!
Hell yeah! My favorite track off their newest album. The soundscapes that the entire band creates put you into a "different realm." I got hooked on Tool ever since I first heard _Schism_ on the radio maybe 10 or 12 years ago.
Thanks, Geebz, and keep on rockin'! Awwwright!
It's unfortunate that so few songs of theirs get radio play due to length. But I am glad that they don't give a crap about that and are happy to put out awesome 13+ minute tracks like this!

Geebz, watching you review and react is so comfortable. By that I mean it feels like we're just sitting together talking and enjoying music together like old friends. Managing to maintain that personal touch is what keeps me coming back. Yes, you're extremely knowledgeable and insightful, but you're so very personable. I want you to know how much that's appreciated and if that's just how you are as a person, who you are and how you live your life, the world is a much better place with you in it.

God I love your videos! You've been one of my favorite thing to listen to since the beginning of this pandemic. And as a Tool lover since 1993, it is a gift to listen to your knowledge. Cheers sir!
I'd love to see you decompose tool - 7empst. They won a Grammy for it in 2020, best metal performance.
That smile right as Danny hits the gong was priceless and is almost identical to mine *every* time I hit that moment in the song. Cheers…
Glad to see you get into this one! It took me a listen or two to really appreciate how the song builds, but is definitely my favorite off Fear Inoculum!
I always gets chills when it gets to that part where Danny hits the gong. It truly is an out of body experience to that build up.
the placement of this track in the album is perfect. this song and then culling voices makes the whole center section of the album a total entrancing experience, sandwhiched by heavy thought provoking tracks.
The part in the middle 18:20 with the quiet guitar swells seems like a call back to the ocean swells and waves crashing soundscape. and the cracks of the drums and the cymbals swelling and receding in the background just adds to the feeling of the waves coming in
Vicarious? No? Ok... Still an awesome song though! Can't wait till your next Tool review (of Vicarious 😁)!!
Easily one of my favorite Tool songs. This song gives me chills everytime. The whole ascending and "descending" dynamics of this song are incredible. For songs with interesting and unique soundscapes you should definitely check out the Mars Volta's Casandra Gemini. Incredibe
I have to second anything that omar does, especially with The Mars Volta.
Thank you for helping me hear my favorite music in a new way. I absolutely appreciate the engineering breakdown that you have given to this and so many songs that I love.
Tool has been my favorite band since I was a teenager in the 90s, and it warms my heart to see someone of your talent find them and embrace their musicianship and deconstruct not only the composition but all of the technical and engineering aspects that I never thought of that have made such an impact on me when I listen to their music. It’s not only the band members, but it’s a huge group of people that create what we hear. Much love for you and what you do.
Thanks for this Geebz. This has been one I wanted to see for quite a while. I can’t stress to you enough how long and how painful the wait for this album was. I gave up hope long ago that we would hear another Tool album. Seeing them play this live while standing next to my 19 year old son is one of the highlights of my musical soundtrack of life. If you saw all of the stuff Justin does on his bass during this song, your jaw would hit the floor.
You rock Dad!
Descending, the song with 3 endings. It's just so good.
Definitely my favorite song off the album, absolutely mesmerizing! Great video I love the way you analyze music. I would love to see your reaction of "Holomovement" or "The Center" by The Contortionist, I really liked your video on Language I: Intuition.
Yesssss
Definitely my favorite song from that album
Man, I love when you do these videos and point out things I didn’t hear the first 100 times I listened to whatever song you’re doing. The best in the business.
I was just thinking, as I opened up my MacBook this morning, that it's been a minute since Geebz has dissected a TOOL song. You breaking down "Descending" , is the perfect way to start a weekend!!
Hey Geebz, I am having that rotator cuff surgery on the 20th. Like you said, "if only our tendons were made like bass strings"!! 😁 I'd gladly donate a low B from my Stingray 5!
Maynards last lyric “order” is in the exact middle of the song! To the second. Seems to be a theme on Fear Inoculum
The new album is a monster! Descending is a work of art (as is their whole catalog), but 7empest Pneuma and Invincible get all the love. It blows me away that TOOL can take the melodic sledgehammer motif and make it fresh every time!
Started to listen Tool being about 13yo. Cannot describe how much by listening to their music it taught me musical sensibility, being open minded, patient, not prejudice, focused and at the same time relaxed. Discovered many emotions and how to recognise and cape with them. Music is the most high form of education imo and Tool is the head teacher
Love your reactions!!
React to Vicarious !
That was the first album I heard from tool.
chick in my squad while in the Air force introduced me to them......while smoking salvia and listened to this album like 3 times in a row lol
I love how the "swells" in the middle of the song are the instrumental version of the water swells of the start of the song. Ugh and then when the synths hit its such a cathartic moment. Adam's guitar work is pure elegance in this song.
In the theater of the mind as you say, this song brings me from the beach, to the depths of the ocean, then back to the beach. And what a journey it is throughout.
Descending, pneuma, 7empest & culling voices are fantastic workout songs 🏋️♂️. I’ve ran to all of em !! Fantastic reaction/decomposing as always. Been waiting on this one. Aloha!
Can't wait for eulogy and H, both will blow your mind
Another one to add to your list of great TOOL rxns! Thanks for doing a circle back.
THE most epic song on Fear Inoculum. I probably prefer Pneuma a little bit over it, but its such a good song. Always major goosebumps at the "climax" in the middle of the song.
Sound the dread alarm! Through our primal body! Sound the reveille! To be or not to be!
Rise! Stay the grand finale! Stay the reading of our swan song and epilogue!
One! Drive! To Stay Alive!
Elementary! Muster Every Fiber!
Mobilize!
Stay Alive!!!
i am an really old Tool fan ... almost since the beginning .... Fear Inoculum is a beast of an album and the top of their craft for the moment ... I really hope we get one more someday .... Tool is soooo special and so important to me as a human ... they really are👁
One of the greatest songs by TOOL imo- and one of the best songs in general. Thank you good sir !🤙🏻🌀🫶🏼
Thank you for this. It’s what I’ve been waiting for. My next request is Reptile by Nine Inch Nails. ;)
That'd be awesome.
Nice call. One of my favourite NIN tracks
❤ This one is tied with 7empest on the album. Epic!
In this song, TOOL ascended to a level even higher than Lateralus. All the emotion this song evokes is unbelievable, specially on 22:35. How will be their future works??? It's truly unimaginable!!!
Love it! Descending is one big Crescendo! Takes you on a trip down, by going up and up!
easily the best song on the album for me.
i associate it with my dad passing away last year.
Some of my favorite Tool lyrics: "Falling is flying, floating isn't infinite...". Inspired by "Book of Ishmael" by Daniel Quinn, it speaks to our blissful/willful ignorance of the damage we're doing to all life as we know it.
Quinn is a recycled Marxist misanthrope. I was such a fan in my teens in the late 90s. Then I started finding shared themes of overthrowing the established order between Marx and Quinn. Tool and FI are so much more than Takers and Leavers.
Thanks for this reaction, mate. Descending is one of my favourite tracks of all time. Glad you enjoyed it :)
I love what you said about saying the most you can with the least. I've never heard these words put together, but "economy of complexity" comes to mind* thank you, Geebz
