Awesome clip of Rory at his very best. Hard to believe that this was the opening song of his set. Most people don't achieve this level of after 90 minutes on stage. I was lucky enough to have seen him live a couple of times back in the early 80's. I still have the guitar pick I caught at the end of the set. I later met him and he signed my denim jacket and tour book. He was one of the nicest, most genuine rock musicians I've ever met. 4 people obviously have no ears or brain.

Too damned straight. As great as Rory was, he was able to be so good because Ted & Gerry held the rhythm for him and they were tighter than a duck's backside.
I was up front, at his feet, at a gig @ the Stardust Ballroom, in Hollywood, Ca. I got to touch the Strat during “Shadow Play”, & bought him a Jameson’s & water afterwards. (It came back with coca-cola). The very first thing he said, and he spoke first, as there I had been, right in front of him was: “ How did it sound? Was it okay?” I replied: “Okay? You blew the roof off the dump.” He thanked me, then ordered the next round, keeping the coke back, as well.Keep in mind, this is around 1983, “Jinx” was the new album, Gary Myrick opened. He spent about a half hour with me as the place emptied, finally sitting at the bar, until Tom O’Driscoll came for him. An incredible ending to an incredible show! @@reniisgod well that would be very difficult to tell wouldn’t it, based on the fact that I can’t see you. You’re obviously not just funny but rather dim also
Damn, SO fucking good. Rory was a force of nature. Why he’s not more well known or as highly regarded as the other “usual suspect” big name rock and roll guitarists defies explanation. He was once even considered as a replacement for Mick Taylor in the Stones back in ‘74, but I can see why he wasn’t picked. He was just too wild and high energy for what the Stones were doing. He would have totally stolen Jagger’s thunder onstage and eclipsed all that funky chicken stuff. All I know is that he should have been a household name. I’ve only really learned in depth about him in the last 10 years or so.
@@melonballer8475 At the same time, it’s a goddamn shame that he never got the mass recognition that he deserved. Ajouter un commentaire public... Best guitarist ever. Awesome singer. Incredibly underrated songwriter. I love his simplicity: jeans, a shirt and that's about it...oh yeah, socks and shoes too. I've never read anything bad about him. I don't think he was a perfect human being (that doesn't exist), but I bet he was close to that. A gentleman as in gentle man. And his band is awsome: his bassist is one of the best I've ever seen/heard.
I will shout out my highest praises for our man Rory Gallagher every day of my life for the next 287 year whilst i am still on this earth, but it is very unfair that we do not also heap great praise on all the boys in Rory's band they were all very brilliant every single one of them with very special praise for Rory's side kck and Rorys another guiradian angel when on stage, Jerry the main on bass
I got to meet him backstage once. I kept asking him to repeat himself because of my inability to understand his brough. His response was " Yeah that last band was pretty loud huh?" Had a good laugh! I think about it all the time.

But, unlike you, every time I hear this it makes me smile because nobody has EVER played with his passion! Never to be forgotten...the Irish genius!
It's well known that Rory first & foremost gave all to his audiences, but in this one clip he expresses such joy unto himself! Love his abandon and freedom, have never seen someone play so confidently, with no ego on display! I smile just watching this every time💚🎸

Holy cow, Rory was truly THE BEST live performer of the 70s.... Live he was so entertaining to watch, and played many new/different versions of songs as opposed to trying to replicate the album' versions, often his Live performances were much MUCH more amazing than the studio cuts, (that's why '74 Irish Tour was one of his biggest albums!!)

RIP Rory - named my son after him. saw him at Toad's Place in New Haven in '70s, and he was incendiary and brilliant, playing this same beat-up Strat; met and interviewed him after ... probably had 12 of his albums, but "Photo Finish" was the best and this leadoff track smokes
Rory,,, the legend,,, i was lucky enough to see him live a few times in my younger days.
justin james lucky you!!! He died before I was born!!! That makes me sad sometimes
You are not lucky...you' re the luckiest for seeing Rory in live.
I got to see him twice, once in Hollywood and once in San Diego. He brought the house down both times.
I'm listening to shin kicker in memory of my best friend Gregory Stampee. RIP BROTHER
Best guitarist of all time. It's not open for debate.
L 1 I feeling really sorry for those who debate that. Only their mum Can love them.
Hahahaha verdade.!
@Matthew Heneghan Hendrix said that Rory was the best
@@mickoldfield6206 there's no proof. It's a laaiiieeehhhh
@unfortunate son Yes and they never tried to copy each other. But honestly where the fuck did Rory get his style, He was obviously born with it?
Great Western Festival 1972 had the privilege of seeing Rory . Had no real knowledge of him at the time but once I'd seen him play live . Well no more needs to be said , Genius .
just wow, no matter how many times I watch!
And to think this was the opening song of a 3 hour set.what passion and energy
Born in Donegal, raised in Cork...probably the best musician to come out of Eire.
Ulster had the most
high kings for a reason lol
L'un des plus grands et plus beaux concerts de Rory Gallagher... Si ce n'est pas son meilleur ! !
Now that’s how to start a gig - play like it’s the last number of the night!
I seen him close a set in 81 with Shin Kicker and 13 months later open the set with Shin Kicker !! At the Park West Chicago
@@billplate3125 Cool! I only saw him once, at the Marquee in London, he was touring the Photo Finish album. What a night :)
Really! What can you say? He has got to be one of the top 5 of all time. Hendrix, Clapton, Blackmore, Page, EVH, are all guitar Gods but watching these clips of Rory really pisses me of that he isn't even mentioned today. Man I wish I could have seen him live. RIP
Clapton is a prick not even near Rory’s league
Damn right,Rory was right up their
Hendrix was once asked how it felt to be the greatest guitarist in the world and he replied "I wouldn't know. Ask Rory Gallagher."

Oh man that was hard and authentic rock - loved the way he ended it as well.
I will never get bored with this song and video. This is pure perfection!
One of the greatest songs and performances by anyone ever
I will shout out my highest praises for our man Rory Gallagher every day of my life for the next 287 year whilst i am still on this earth, but it is very unfair that we do not also heap great praise on all the boys in Rory's band they were all very brilliant every single one of them with very special praise for Rory's side kck and Rorys another guiradian angel when on stage, Jerry the main on bass
Phenomenal! WOW WOW WOW this is ELECTRIC! I've watched this so many times. If there's anyone like Rory I'd love to know
I got to meet him backstage once. I kept asking him to repeat himself because of my inability to understand his brough. His response was " Yeah that last band was pretty loud huh?" Had a good laugh! I think about it all the time.
Miss You Rory ! This world ain't never gonna be the same without You !!!
I am also 61. I have been listening to Rory for 40 years. When I was a student people told me I would grow out of his music but thankfully I have grown out of them and not the G-man! But, unlike you, every time I hear this it makes me smile because nobody has EVER played with his passion! Never to be forgotten...the Irish genius!
Rory Gallagher is the best
It's well known that Rory first & foremost gave all to his audiences, but in this one clip he expresses such joy unto himself! Love his abandon and freedom, have never seen someone play so confidently, with no ego on display! I smile just watching this every time💚🎸
Still no one comes close. I too discovered Rory only a few years ago. Now in my 80's will.play him often as I can. Yes my son saw him in Canada maybe in the mid 70's..and was a fan too.
WOW, Rory was on fire...!!! Great Respekt to Rory Gallagher!
This is Rock`n`Roll, OMG, great, great Rory! - SUPER!
R.I.P.
That bass player is a fuckin hero guys
I hope I never get too old to blow my speakers out cranking this and so many rory rocking songs. senior citizens living socks. need to lighten up and invite Mr. Gallagher for morning exercises
Every so-called musician in the top forty today should watch this and learn how it should be done , no effects no backing tracks and playing their instruments !!!
Well said Luther.
Agree! So tired of this karaoke style of music which has been playing on the radio for years now.
I couldn't agree more Calle
I saw Rory, Gerry and Ted play in 1980 and it was awesome, and I have seen Gerry and Ted play in the Band of Friends twice now and what a show they produce.
You can tell Rory lived for his music. Never seen such energy, in any performance, by anyone!
I just LOVE him and his music and will never tire of listening to everything he ever sang .......
Mr. Rory, deine Musik ist unseres Erbe. Danke!
This is one of my favourite songs of all time and this live recording brings back amazing memories of me hearing it live at the Glasgow Aplollo in the early 80's. Even my two teenage kids love it - he's a timeless genius !!!
24yers ago the earth was a smile less Heaven a smile richer SLEEP EASY RORY MARGO 🎸🎶🎵🎶🎸♥️♥️♥️☘
Merci internet : merci RUclips de nous permettre de voir ce génie.
I like how he plays and smile.
ONE MORE! BRAVO THE RHYTHM SECTION- YOU GUYS DESERVE THE GOLD MEDAL!!! BYE!!!
Rory forever !!! I saw him in Lyon France 1974 and I'll never forget this amazing guitar player, the best I've ever seen in my life ! Thanks a lot for share !!!
Absolutely electric performance by one of the all time greats. What a showman he was
Never ever shall we see stage presence and self-confidence at that level.
Such incredible energy. That strat because an extension of the man when he played. A great talent gone too soon.
Sometimes I get tired of music but every time I hear Rory all the love comes back, it doesn't happen listening to others & is a really rare thing
Only the joy of professionals to sing and delight the audience
Brilliant. My favourite ever guitarist and live performer. Nobody like him.
God was in a good mood when he sent this angel to earth love you rory may you rest in pease margot
