So very lucky not to only seen him many times both with Taste and this band. But so fortunate to have spent time with him at the Buxton blues and Rock concerts. Love reading everyone's comments. I call this raw blues. He played from his heart and soul.
Great stuff. I relate to the atmosphere of this song very much. Ever been in a place, surrounded by people having a good time and feeling like you're a million miles away? I have, more than once. Rory shows restraint in this song guitar-wise. Swells, some well-timed arpeggios, tasty bends. His vocal soulfully tells the tale. The band is smoking and Rory gives them plenty of room to shine. An excellent live version of a great song.
Very well said, Ken. I've been "there" many times myself, but having only recently discovered Rory's life-changing talent, I feel that I've found a kindred spirit at last.

This is quite a different version of the song, a mellow and slow emotional one with the organs in the background. His playing is more understated than in most live versions I've seen. Awesome!
When he wrote this song, Rory was going through a tough time in life. His million miles away, refers to his getaway place in life. It's a place called Ballycotton, county cork Ireland. Rory went there to get away from life. I can't explain what he means in the song. It would take to long. This is Rory's soul you are hearing. He lost his captan and his crew = taste.............
I've listened to it sooo many times (it's my #1 Rory song especially due to the emotional content in both the music and the lyrics) and I can sometimes recognize myself in the song, like I'm in tune with it.

Gerrymandering McAvoy on bass, Rodney Ath(sp?) drums and Lou Martin on keys. They were phenomenal!
I did NOT spell Gerrymandering. Darn phone of mine. Sorry.
@@waywardchild4678 A friend phoned me and told me he was gone I cried a little he was the man who guided me into the world of blues I'll always be grateful
C'est ça Rory et son groupe! De la musique, avec des musiciens; ben oui, et chacun à fond dans son domaine.
Un domaine d'excellence. Merci à eux.
Great song! Great musicians! This brings back great memories.
I's hard to describe the genius of this artist. Special mention too to Gerry, Rod & Lou..
R.I.P Rory, Rod and Lou , Only Gerry is alive.Sad but true, What a great music group they were . Rory was an axe man extraordinaire. I saw him ones live 1988 . It was awesome.
Non lo conoscevo, sono rimasta folgorata. Mi è arrivato tutto dritto al cuore, frequenza immediata, musica senza inganno che può scaturire solo da un uomo così autentico e puro, prima ancora che da un artista
a genius who died to soon, Rory, one of the best ever, You never will be forgotten...
I've listened to it sooo many times (it's my #1 Rory song especially due to the emotional content in both the music and the lyrics) and I can sometimes recognize myself in the song, like I'm in tune with it.
scyphe What a legend........ there is an old saying, " you will never be a prophet, in your own country "............... makes me proud to be Irish
You know it's going to be an experience when that bass kicks in
So so many great guitarist but for me Rory is up there with any of them.
He's in my top 5, as one of the best guitarist ever around.
The best ever
He was a phenomenal pure natural. Still listening today.🥰✌😍✌🥰
Why is that that I always cry when I listen to Rory? ... Because it is the true blues and he is a true man.
Je me le repasse toujours en boucle, merci. Rory,c magnifique , vive Rory. On ne pas t'oublier. J'adore. Un guitariste de blues, le ch'tiiii moucheurs...
Bass players never get the recognition they deserve so when Rory doesn't get the recognition he deserves as a leading man/top Guitarist what chance does McAvoy have..
HE WAS GREAT!
There will only ever be one Rory Gallagher ! Live. No one could rock like this guy !

Awesome. I saw him in a rock concert at Rockingham Speedway. A very much smaller version of Woodstock. It was so good. So hot. We got so high. Saw alot of other greats, like Black Oak Arkansas, Alice Cooper, James Gang, alot more. Fuzzy memories for sure.
