I discovered Rory Gallagher at the age of 54 by chance, looking for good rock guitar players. It's been the best discovery I've ever made, after Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler when I was 16. If I had discovered Rory at 16 he would have been a rock idol to me ever since. An exceptional performer and composer who cannot be ignored and who cannot be forgotten.
i saw Rory in 1973 i did not know who he was.. he opened up for Deep Purple at the time when they were peaking , Rory and his band were on fire and blew the roof off the place. he left the audience in a frenzy after doing an encore the crowd was standing on their chairs demanding more chanting his name over and over.. as good as Purple were back them he made it difficult for them that night. the next day i went out and bought everything he made and became a fan for decades
When he opened for Aerosmith, his act finished with the audience chanting his name and requesting an encore. Aerosmith came out anyway, and the crowd threw bottles at them, so they stopped the event.

The first guy singing Knocking on heaven's door (1:52:30) is Wolfgang Niedecken, singer of the german band "BAP". Niedecken himself said he was a huge fan of Rory, often travelling far distances to see a concert and when he finally met him personally for the first time this very concert here in 1982, he was blown away by how nice and down to earth Rory was. He especially recalls a memory describing how Rory would let him play his famous guitar "but I was so timid, all I could think of was a G Major chord."
A true gentleman, eloquent both verbally & musically; modest; man of the people; no "star" antics or pretensions. I saw him only once 1972 Xmas-New Year concert , Dublin National Stadium. Saw Rory in Rochester ny 76' sandwiched between Crack the Sky and Black Oak Arkansas, Rory kicked the crap out of both of them! Calling Card tour was his only appearance in Rochester, I consider myself very fortunate to have seen him live!RIP Rory 🕊🕊🕊
I remember way back and very early 80s I saw an article in the rolling Stone magazine over a page and a half and it labeled Rory Gallagher as white blues guitarist extraordinaire how great is that love you Rory rest in peace Rodney Ryan
Geoffrey I feel so fortunate not only to have seen him live on my occasions but extremely lucky to have met him twice! Rory was actually very shy and quiet and shunned the limelight… the two times I got to meet him ( both times after his yearly live show at Belfast ulster hall) … he was very welcoming and extremely pleasant but I did pick up he didn’t look comfortable with praise… but once he stepped on that stage he was a monster! A master of his craft… an Irish legend who will never ever be forgotten… since his untimely tragic death his memory is carried on and celebrated in his birth place of Ballyshannon annually with the “Rory Gallagher festival” … Gerry mcAvoy ( bass) still performs with his “band of friends” at the festival and so did Ted McKenna (Drummer) up until we lost Ted too … maybe you’ve attended the roryfest? If not I highly recommend you do… it’s a fantastic 4 day festival.
Remember seeing this live on RTE TV ireland at the time ,what a trill. The drummer, I think it was Brendan o Neill, was wearing a RTE radio 2 t shirt. It was a major deel for Irish rock fans at the time. Rock on Rory boy!!!
Excellent, Rory was great, damn it must have been a nightmare for the band when he left,,,, always inspiring to watch mr MacAvoy rockin all over,,, I must say I have my doubts about the performance of the singers in the last concert shown here,,, damn,,, a relief when Rory enters for sure.

RORY MAGICO!!! Also young ppl from small villages in deep Spain know you are The Best and The Only One!!!
He opened for Rush in 1982. The next I went out and bought the Stage Struck, on cassette. Still remember how great he was that night.
2020 you still ROCK in heaven RORY XXX 💕💕💕💋
Rory es un Heroe sin tiempo... Gracias por tu musica. Saludos desde Buenos Aires, Argentina

GREAT BAND!
Best blues rock musician ever and
Gary Moore unusually from Belfast too
Just 2 of my guitar heroes ❤️
Agreeeee 👍
Ja, Rory Gallagher ist ein sehr großes Idol von mir. 👏👏👏🎸🎸🎸
followed rory for ever, never seen him live,(my loss.) the best thing to come out of ireland....
Yes, it was Brendan. Saw him at the end of 2019, just before Covid came along in Europe, together with Gerry. They were as good as ever.
Also ,4-5 mal in der Woche muss ich Rory hören sonst fehlt mir was , und das schon seid 40 Jahren , 4 mal live in Deutschland gesehen das .Unerreichbar

Terry Barton, very well said. How lucky are you to have seen the great Rory in person. I'll have to wait until the hereafter, but I am enjoying every minute of videos & audios of Rory & band while I can. Finding Rory has changed my life in a remarkable way & I am so happy to experience what posts like this for my mental health! We ate blessed to be considered Rory's people.
