- French toast is one of the easiest (and most delicious) ways to use up some older/stale bread. Especially if you make your own sourdough bread and you happen to have tons lying around like I do. This is a classic and super duper simple french toast recipe, but with a bonus recipe at the end. I'll give you a hint: caramelized bananas.

Ingredients you'll need:
6-8 slices of stale bread (fresh is fine too but stale is best)
2 1/2 tablespoons butter
Egg Mixture:
3 eggs
2 egg yolks
1 cup (225ml) whole milk
1 teaspoon (3g) cinnamon
1 teaspoon (6g) vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon (3g) fine sea salt
3 tablespoons (30g) brown sugar Хобби
Hey Josh, so I’ve made this recipe a few times and I wanted to offer a small tip, I mix the cinnamon with the eggs before I add the milk, which gets the cinnamon to bind with the eggs and be more evenly disbursed throughout the wash Instead of just sitting on the surface And clinging to the edges of the bowl. Gives better overall cinnamon distribution to each slice. Cheers :)
Tried, works. Thank you for such smart idea! :)
Yep. I was a cook in the marines and I learned adding the cinnamon into the eggs before the milk helps it mix much better.
Let me make you french toast you handsome uniformed man
Agreed. And I always make extra egg mixture to cook into scrambled eggs. Kids and I love "brown eggs" lol weird but good
Nice tip!

At 4:31 I legit thought he smeared butter onto a hot pan with his bare hands
My brain also registered this as being perfectly normal until I did a double take
Oh wait I’m so wrong gg
He did, though,
It’s not hard.
@@abc6568 yeah, you just get a second degree burn. No big deal.
shayan moosavi not if you don’t touch the pan but just the butter. Its not safe but it’s not difficult
Can't help but think there was an opportunity for a splash of spiced rum with that last pat of butter to be brushed on them bananas!..yum .. Great vid as always!

this recipe is spot on awesome. it is now my go to for french toast.
Ok man I approuve you, you are the first American (?) youtuber talking about French toast that actually is real, French toast (by the way we call it "pain perdu", "lost bread" in English), because we use bread, and not fresh but dry one ! ❤👏
Made this recipe at home, absolutely amazing!
Just made these, delicious! Thanks Joshua
Sourdough french toast => perfect combo !
Love from Belgium 😁
I love your SIMPLE steps
I love that you're nonchalantly using your hands to flip the toast and banana despite the heat.
just tried this recipe after thinking of doing it for some time, loved it!!! btw first time having french toast. great first impression.
That banana caramelization technique is super neat.
Love your style and the level of your knowledge of your art. The negative people are watching so you’re doing something right. Be blessed, Josh.

Nice. Always like your style! Videos like this makes me think “man! There isn’t enough French toast in my life!” ...I will rectify immediately ☺️👊🏻
Hey Joshua.
About the knife sharpening video.
Haters gonna hate.
There's tons of complex, in depth videos about whetstone sharpening. Yours, while simple, was APPROACHABLE.
Please continue to present things in the beautiful simple way you do. People who are intimidated by complex processes will find it is easier to learn these skills.
TLDR : Keep up the good work!
LOL. Super excited at 10K subscribers. Look where you are at now! Congrats!
or otherwise called EGG TOAST in the 1880's - Beat an egg smooth with half a teacup of rich milk. Dip slices of stale bread in this and fry a nice brown in butter. If for “the men,” add a pinch of pepper and salt to the egg. For children omit these and give them honey or syrup with it. It agrees equally well with meat or fish and fills the place of potatoes when you wish a change.
-taken from old Willimantic/Windham newspapers.
Thank to you, I have one of the most amazing breakfast of my life.
what you did with that banana reminded me a lot of a desert we have here in the Caribbean (Puerto rico)called Gineos en Alameda. It's basically the same bud you add cinnamon.
lol you had me at the banana part I love banana's and tried it and will be my go to recipe for sure.
290k subs in 11 months. Really GJ!
I love food. Good job dude!

I am an avid French toast fan and boi I made this recipe and even though I burnt it it’s a strong contender for the best French toast I’ve ever made in my life
Ignore the haters love your vids you explain so well
Mon favorite chef
I made French toast with donuts once, fried in butter. And yes, the eating was as indecent as you would think.
Tbt when josh had 11k and now he’s at over 1m I’m so proud of u man
Your egg mixture is amazing, but what makes it even better is mix in a shot of scotch. It adds a smokey richness to the flavor.
If you're breads not stale you can put it in the over on a cooling rack at a low temp for a few minutes to dry it out
The way you talk is really captivating. Awesome presentation bro. 👌
The intro made me drool... i cant wait for the sourdough bread to raise xD i need toast now! NOW!
i watc you for about 2 to 3hrs nightly before going to bed... you're AMAZING!! with i had all of your tools and gadgets!! :)

You are the bet youtuber by far!!!!
I'm normally not a sweets eater. However this looks fantastic.
mike rotch thank you! Happy to read that!
I’ve always found that brioche or challah are the best breads for french toast :) but nothing wrong with sourdough either haha!
Bakuta Nathan I agree! At the end of the day, any bread works though.
Brown sugar? Ah I see you’re a man of culture Josh. Bravo
look how much josh’s channel has grown.
Dude... 11k? You’re going to hit a mil in just a little over a year. That’s crazy.
here in 12/2019 hearing "10k" subscribers and scrolling down to see 802k.... good on you, my dude. con-freaking-grats
Fun fact: In Germany this dish is called Armer Ritter (poor knight).
In Finland it's "köyhät ritarit" (poor knights) as well!
In Norway its «Arme riddere» and guess what that means! Poor knights lol
In Dutch they are called "wentel teefjes" (turning bitches) :D
In Spain we call it torrijas which basically means little toasts the -ija is a derogatory diminutive
hab ich auch nich gewusst
Sometimes i like to add a bit of pumpkin pie spice to mine. Just barely any. It makes a big difference in the flavor.
Genius. This is genius.
Kaitlynn Stirling thank you 🙏🙏🙏🙏
776k today dude. DAMN JW ! That looked amazing.
Gordon Ramsay: now let’s get som nice colour on this eggy bread
Jeez you made me hungry
I personnaly don't use cinnamon with my "pain perdu" ( a stupid translation would mean Lost bread ) and instead of vanilla i use rhum, it add some magic flavour, i simply LOVE it. I put some good rhum in the mix and let my bread absorb it for 3 to 4 hours ( an excellent method too is to use brioche instead of bread, it's amazingly delicious try you'll thank me later ). I'm not a big banana fan, but hey, taste choice, it's up to you :)
Aniway, good recipe, next time try with rhum and let me know if you liked it ;)
You should try slicing a panetone slice, putting it in eggs and then toast it in butter, later added some mapple syrup was p good.
TLDR: try with a panettone slice !
Orange zest in the mixture brightens up the heaviness of the egg and bread.
It's truly mesmerizing how the western culture, especially American culture, has adopted desserts as breakfast.
Poenw pawdu is also my favorite.
savory french toast is best french toast
Your videos are 👌🏿👌🏿👌🏿
The first time I heard it, I didn't recognized pain perdu X'D I didn't know that was french toast in english ! Also, just a tip from a french person : it's even better if you plan it juuuuust a little bit and leave your slices of bread out overnight to dry out ! Don't forget to slice it though !
When i saw the presentation pic i was like "I'm french... why have I never heard of this ?! " and then I understood, when he started to do the recipe my brain did go "WOOOOSH it's pain perdu"
Actually here, in France and Belgium we do some french toast to recycle the dry bread ! We eat it with blond or brown sugar !
im so happy with you too
What more could I ask for? Dangerous question, but let’s start with a bread pudding recipe!!
When I saw simple in the title I was like..Is this rlly Joshua doing a “simple” recipe?
Making this one for my husband tomorrow, but let’s be honest, it’s really for me.
I love 1-2 Tbsp of bourbon and some nutmeg in there. Omg deliciousnesssss
Good video
Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you for including rest-of-the-world measurements!
Josh then: Him happy abt getting 10k (not hating, that’s a lot)
