This is what I have been wondering about. Thank you so very much for answering this question!! You have helped so many people to understand the correct techniques and the basics to create lovely art. You are my favorite teacher on You Tube. Tks so much for your inspiration Molly!!
I'm so grateful to have come across this and your mixing pouring medium tutorial. As a newbie to the world of art and painting I pay close attention to your technique in swiping, blow dryer, straw, flip cup, dirty pours and such. I definitely need lots of practice in all those areas. My abilities using your techniques has improved immensely but I struggle to get great results, that WOW factor. Your mixing tutorials have tought me that it's not technique I struggle with now, it's the medium and paint consistency. Thank you thank you thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. 😎
I appreciate your quality of sharing! I am going to try house paint. I think I have been mixing too thick and keep thinning so your videos are my inspiration. THANK YOU !!!
Thank you so much for this video Molly. A minute or two ago I sent you a note asking why you use the products and why so many and then I found your video right after I asked you so thank you very much for doing this ahead of time and I understand now. And I'm very happy to see I can use house paint for the you know the base of the paintings. Thanks again.
Thank you for this one! Being completely new to pouring and deciding house paint base would be far more cost effective finding a how to on house paint bases is awesome. So much conflicting information out there. Some don’t do anything to it, others do a lot. Thanks the reasons given too make it make total sense!
Thank you so much for the inspiration and for sharing your beautiful art! I feel like an idiot. I used the paint I painted my living room (green) and dining room (blue) to make poured paintings for those rooms. It never occurred to me to use house paint as my base! When I use house paint I take a hammer and a nail and nail holes in the can where the lid goes, that indented part of the can. That way the paint drips back with the rest and the lid doesn't stick. I get a bag of marbles from the dollar store, it's with the fake flowers, and put 3 or 4 in my gallon jug of Floetrol to help mix it when I shake it. Also (whew!) I used a drill with a paint paddle attached to mix a gallon of paint. The paddle is at Walmart for less than $5! I love all of your pieces and couldn't choose a favorite if I tried! Again, thank you!
dana! thank you so much! those are all amazing tips thank you for that! hahaha, dont feel like an idiot at all! i cant tell you how many ah ha moments i have had on this journey! thank you for watching and thank you for sharing!

When your painting has dried completely, do you then use varnish or is the varnish that you added in mixing your paint significant enough so you do not have to varnish before selling or giving away as a gift. Enjoyed your videos. Still fairly new, some come out great, many have been paint overs. Thank you so much! In the living, it is all about finding out what works for you! I liked the rose as well, it went to its new home now, I might have to make another one lol. Your story was too funny!!😂😂 thanks for watching!
Hey Molly I’m loving your tutorials.. I’m just starting out literally this week, I’m just waiting for a huge number of art supplies to be delivered, iv been making lots of lists from your tutoring, thank you for the amazing inspiration you have given to everyone.....
Hi Molly thank you for your reply, i will definitely keep you informed, I'm hoping to start pouring at the weekend... I'm nervous but very excited, too. In the meantime ill be watching more of your of your wonderful tutorial's.. please keep up your excellent artistry...
thank you for doing this video on using house paint for acrylic pour. I am a chemically sensitive person and have been having such a hard time with the acrylic pours I have been using. I used SmartCoat No VOC house paint and have been looking for a way to use it when pouring paint. I also cannot use Floetrol so learned how to substitute it with glue. Now I am set and ready to have fun painting. 2 Questions: 1) because I am going to substitute the Floetrol for a glue and water mixture, do I need to change any of the other ingredients that you used? 2) Where can I get the plastic container where you pour and mix everything. How many quarts/gallons does it hold?
Hello Molly I think you are amazing you got me so excited about painting, my ? Is can you show me on paper test the difference between a thin, medium and thick pour. Thank you 😊 always a thumbs up
Miss Mollly, 1st, you are simply delightful to watch, and then your genius and talent! No one matches your ability. Sent this before, remember how GOOD you are, forget the self doubt, should I or shouldn't I! This helps me all the time when pondering, "IF THERE'S A QUESTION, THERE'S NO QUESTION." You already know what you need or not need to do. Either way, you're work is AWSOME! And even though I'm gay, I am jealous of your husband for having such a great person for a wife! Lol!
Im so in love with your channel... Between you and Kanella I have learned through you ladies and I'm more than appreciative of every thing that I've learned.. Thanks Molly
Molly, I tried black semi-gloss. I added about 300 ml pouring medium, 500 ml black semi gloss and maybe 2 ounces of distilled water. I also used 3 small bottles of a craft type gunmetal. I wanted a Dutch pour blow out. I used colors simple to your favorites that were acrylic paint. It looked so great wet. But dry it’s like my paint sunk into the base too much. I’m hoping a top coat gloss will revive the pop to it. The gac 800 is for crazing but I’m not doing huge canvases and have not added that. Would some floetrol have helped my colors stay more on top?
Hi Molly, since I found you I havent stopped watching you I agree with the above comments. Your truly a natural in front of camera. Talented beyond. I started fluid art about 7mths ago & havent stopped. I do have some questions & I know you can help me. For starters, I use 1 part paint to 2 parts floetrol, plus water when needed. I just finished watching your video about house paint, liquidtex gloss varish. Should I be using that as my base all the time? Do you varnish your painted canvas on all finished products. I read & heard it turns yellow, I afraid to varnish if thats the case. I also were told if artists use silicone a art festival promoter will not let you show do to yellowing. I'm desperate as I'm moving to Florida and want to start selling at community clubhouses. Thanks in advance for replying
Hi! Thanks for watching! So for my house paint, I use that as my base for negative pours. I play around with the pouring mediums as well. My staples include liquitex pouring medium to keep the colors true, gac800 (it adds a creaminess to the paint and supposedly helps with crazing, although I dont use it in the amount recommended on the bottle for crazing), gloss medium and varnish. I then play around with different ratios of floetrol and sometimes glue all. For archival products, supposedly, the liquitex pm, gac800, and gloss mediu Should be as they are made for acrylics. No one yet truly knows about glue all and floetrol. I dont use a ton of silicone, normally only in my flip cups, so I dont know about yellowing for that either at this point. I clean my ones really well that have silicone, and I very rarely use just white, so if something yellows on a darker color, will it be that noticeable? I live in FL as well, there has been no one so far that has refused my painting die to the mediums used. For varnishing, the varnish itself is professional grade, none yellowing, uv resistance varnish, so it is supposed to stand the test of time! Resin does yellow over time, some slower than others. I use stone coat currently. Hope this helps and good luck with your move!
You are truly a gem. Seriously! I appreciate that you took the time to reply to me with such delay to every question I had. Thank you thank you. We're looking to buy in West Palm Beach, Delray or Boynton . Have a wonderful week.
Wow! I’m so happy to have found your channel. So helpful! And I think you’re a natural in front of the camera. I’d like to know if you use colored house paint for your pours, or is it only for your white base. Thank you!
Thank you so much! I only use white for now, because that is what I use the most of! I would not be opposed to using house paints if I found other colors I liked as well, i don't think there is anything wrong with it! Thanks for watching and the kind words!
Hello, i just started creating pours and found that i ran through my background colors rather quickly. i sue decoart white and black. are there other paints i can use that i cna get in bulk just for the background? I use Floetrol/liquitex glos as my medium and a mix of decoart and liquitex paints. Ty you also for you vidoes they have helpe me greatly.
Hello, I’m a 2 week beginner. I have been watching lots of videos, and taking notes. A few days ago I ran into one of your videos, and ever since I’ve been watching 4 or 5 of your videos almost every day. Just finished watching this video and wanted to ask you a question. Can I storage the leftover of my mix house paint? And if so, for how long can I keep it? I did my very first fluid pouring paint a week ago. I was very nervous, but enjoyed it a lot. Would love to hear from you, and appreciate it in answer my question. I’m living in Japan, and flood floetrol is very very expensive. Sorry for bothering you. Stay safe.
Hey Molly! I'm slowly working through the videos from the beginning, to really get to understand this medium, before trying it later this week, I'm enjoying seeing the progression of your presence & cameramanship and how the set up changes slowly up to the latest videos that I have been watching too. So obviously here you're still on the phone and unedited, but it's great! I have been confused by the 'Latex paint' you are using, because I'm in England and we have no such a thing as Latex Paint, so apparently it's 'Emulsion Paint' which is standard wall paint (but it took a lot of working out what the hell it was!) So there we have probably both just learnt something new today! As to the Pouring Medium - Do you just mix the Pouring Medium and leave that, then mix your colours/PM on the day of painting, or do you mix the day before (minus the water) and then add water just before pouring? Really enjoying your videos and will eventually catch up! Best wishes Nic ps: I tried Tie Dying clothes in my latest video, I'm wondering if Tie Dye Liquid Pour is something to try!
Hi! Thank you so much! Oh my, yes my videos have definitely changed as has my studio setup and editing skills lol! If you are just starting off I would worry about wall paint for now, it takes a lot to get it not to break and swallow the colors. You can use regular acrylic paint for your bases. If you are going to use it, yes emulsion wall paint is fine. I use semi gloss, don't know what kind it is for you there. I mix batches of it at a time with pm in there and then i add some acrylic paint amd water to it right before i pour. I did 2 tie dye waves recently!! Loved it!
Hi Molly...is there a recommendation you have between base 1 or base 2 for pillow layers??? I got ppg white semi gloss...and notice base 1 on the can...haven't heard you discuss that so, it concerned me. YOU ARE ADORABLE IN YOUR VIDEOS!!!
Hi Molly I thank you for sharing your pouring medium with house paint. Is this what you used for your Brightline series, and your simple mettalic swipes?
This was very helpful thank you, I have a question if you don't mind, can I mix white acrylic with house paint for the base and water, and use just that without any other medium?
Just an FYI: If you place a paper towel or any old paint rag you have hanging around over the paint can lid before using a hammer or rubber mallet to close it, it will capture the splatters that could otherwise end up on you, your walls, or even, God forbid, your freshly painted canvas. Also a rubber mallet won't cause the can to easily be dented or bent like a hammer can. Thanks for all you share.
I love your videos! Very inspiring. I mixed my base paint with your recipe, but get so many Pearl cells and they eat all my color. Any suggestions? I did not add water, used same paint, same Flo, same GAC same Liquitex in your measurements and consistency. Any ideas??
I wait for it to dry, peel it out, off cups, or I wash it off in my yard with a hose. Others have a bucket of water with sand. Some have the outside sink with external plumbing
MOLLY'S ARTISTRY ok cool.....i let mine dry too.....i reuse my stir sticks and cups too so that helps cut down on waste for sure! 😊 Now....are water based non-toxic paints ok to rinse off brushes in sink?
@@shannanigansart76 if there is not a lot of paint on them, not that bad. Even when I wash mine outside in the yard, a small amt goes into the ground. 🙁
I love your videos. They are so detailed and informative. I do have a question for you. When do you use house paint mix vs Acrylic Fluid paint for your bases? I’ve been trying to do dutch pours with house paint thinned out with US Floetrol and Water, and it looks like my base paint is swallowing my colours and everything is turning out pastel, or they are not flowing well.
Hi Molly, I love all your tutorials! Thanks. I know you get tons of questions from people, so I hope you don't mind answering mine. Question...why do you use Liquitex Pouring Med in this? You already use Floetrol, and isn't that also an additive to help the paint pour/flow more easily? So aren't they similar? Can you explain what the difference is? Thanks I really appreciate it. Happy Painting :)
It is a medium to help the paint's slow more easily but it does not have the same binders in it that doc 800 or liquid X pouring medium or gloss medium and varnish have in it it is more to help the paint level than it is to add additional binders
Thank you for sharing this!! You are so kind sharing your experience and wisdom. I love all your videos so much! I am wondering if you can do this same mixture with untinted house paint and use it as a pouring medium to your colours or pigments for the dirty pour? TIA
Hi, I have been subscribed for a little over a year, and I love what I've learned so far. Are you still using house paint and Liquitex in your base, or are you using Amsterdam and water for just about everything? Jerry's Artarama should give you an affiliate link. I found them through you. There are boxes in my basement that I haven't brought to recycling from my last canvas haul. (Eventually my paintings will be Frederix-worthy!) I've found out that they have a store within an hour of me! When "the numbers" go down a little more, I'm making a field trip. Thanks for all the tutorials!
Hey Molly, love your channel and new to fluid art but liking my work most of the time 😊 Do you still use the same recipe for your base paint since the video is a few years old??
No i use mostly amsterdam brand now and if using a medium i use floetrol and gloss medium. My mixture changes depending on what technique i do and its normally listed under the video in the description!
Howdy Miss Molly, when You open Your Gallon of House Paint or any Can's for that matter, if You take a Nail and Hammer and go around the Rim of the Can to tap HOLES into the ridge of the Can, all the Paint will fall back into the Can and this makes it easier to Close with a hammer as there will not be any Paint just sitting in the Rim of the Can. Also it makes it easier to actually open the Can the next time You go to use the Can that You've put the Nail Holes in the Rim of the top of the Paint Can, Hope that helps You.....
Hi Molly-----------Luv this video--------I am new to paint pouring. When you pour the white paint mixture on the canvas do I have to wait for it to dry before I start pouring my paints on the canvas?
Hi! Thank you so much for this video! Do you think I could use wall paint not only for base color? I am thinking about using wall paint for dutch air blowing technique on canvas. Is that possible and recommended? Would be soo grateful for the reply!
Hi! Yes you can, some say latex paint doesn't last as long as artist grade paints, but it can still create some beautiful paintings! You need a binder though it doesn't hold well to thinning with water alone.
Hi Molly, recently subscribed to your channel. I did my first pours on Sunday. I build cornhole boards and was considering pouring on my boards eventually. I did my first three pours right onto some scrap pieces of plywood I had. They turned out decent. I left negative space so that you would still see some wood grain. I used latex house paint. I had not discovered your channel so I wasn't sure about mixtures. They turned out decent. I thought the mix was a little thick which was ok since I wanted the negative space. I also live in Las Vegas so things thicken quickly. What suggestions would you offer to make my mix better consistency considering my situation?
Hi! Couple of things. What pouring medium are you using? I would mix at least with floetrol to thin the paint out a bit. Also of you are going to be putting on wood, make sure you prime it seal it first so that the paint won't soak in. Sounds so cool, a custom corn hole set! Super fun! You want the paint to be funnier than regular latex paint, but not do much that it won't stay on what you are painting lol. Hope this helps!
Hello Molly i'm from Italy and getting floetrol is very hard , i've try with glue...is working but not that much , what else could i use ? Thank you , i.m learning a lot from you
Hi Molly...... great video! I have a question and hope you can answer it. Lately, I find that I am getting a lot of white cells (from the base) coming through after I blow out the top colors. Really ruined some descent projects. The white was a little thicker than the top coats and was mixed with floetrol and GAC800. Any thing pop into your head about what would cause this? thanks!! Bob
HI Molly. That is a lot of Floetrol, almost 1 -1. Don't you have problems with little bubbles and specks while pouring? Especially with flip-cups, when paint is a bit on the thicker side, I use to get specks and little holes. My PM, and white base paint has no Floetrol. just PVA glue, water and GAC 800. Any insights? TFS 💖🎈
It's a lot of floetrol, but I dont get a ton of problems. It might be the gloss medium, liquitex, and gac800 I add though. I would just play around with your ratios! If the PM you make works for you I say go for it!
I see a lot of ppl using all kinds of house paint, I went w a semi gloss like u use in this video but I'm curious what kind of house paint ur using now in 2023?
now In most of my techniques i use amsterdam brand acrylic paint and water, ratio of about 40% - 50% water. Check out my youtube channel, I have lots of free tutorials! Thanks! Check out my video on how I mix my paints for a paint and water painting: ruclips.net/video/xB2mNhmJ1A8/видео.html
Hi Molly, thank you for your teachings and beautiful work. Do you use black house paint for black background? Do you mix the black each time you do a painting or do you mix a large amount like you do with the white? Thank you
I followed your advice and got some house paint to use for the background. I tried mixing the house paint with floetrol and then I tried with just water. I used it with colors that are mixed with floetrol and a little bit of water. The house paint is making a crazy amount of cells. So many cells that you can’t even see the colors. Thoughts or suggestions?
Yes it takes more than just floetrol, I use other mediums as well. For the binders. Less water and mix in about 25 percent acrylic paint in with the house paint mixtures. That happens when there is too much water, and when using semi gloss. The satin doesn't do it as much
House paint for your base? Is that better to use especially for the base layer? Could I just mix it with water and none of the other things? I have to be careful with chemicals.

Thank you so much! In the living, it is all about finding out what works for you! I liked the rose as well, it went to its new home now, I might have to make another one lol. Your story was too funny!!😂😂 thanks for watching!
Very helpful Molly thanks for that.👍
Thank you Molly for showing how to make the base paint
Wow Molly! I so appreciate this tutorial as I have been really struggling. I live in the middle of France and ..... - well, THIS I can do!😊
Love your mixing videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. ❤️
Glad you enjoy it!
Hey Molly I’m loving your tutorials.. I’m just starting out literally this week, I’m just waiting for a huge number of art supplies to be delivered, iv been making lots of lists from your tutoring, thank you for the amazing inspiration you have given to everyone.....
Hi john! That's so awesome! Cant wait for you to get started! Let me know how things go and happy painting!
Hello Molly
I think you are amazing you got me so excited about painting, my ?

Lol!
lol, thank you Matt! love your comment!
Great video! 🙏🏻 Thank you Molly.
Im so in love with your channel... Between you and Kanella I have learned through you ladies and I'm more than appreciative of every thing that I've learned.. Thanks Molly
Thank you so much!
@@MOLLYSARTISTRY your welcome
Thank you Molly!!!🥰🎨
I’ve been looking for this video! You’re awesome 👏
For archival products, supposedly, the liquitex pm, gac800, and gloss mediu
Should be as they are made for acrylics.
You will be close then, I live close to all of those!
You are welcome!
Very helpful Molly thank you so much.
Thanks for all this information. I’m new to pouring and needed this
@@MOLLYSARTISTRY I have a base one acrylic outdoor paint. Do you think it would work? Thanks!
Thank you for sharing this .. just bought a gallon of house paint .. this helped !
Stay safe.
Yes,I enjoyed very much. You are a wonderful relaxed "entertainer"
Best wishes
Nic
ps: I tried Tie Dying clothes in my latest video, I'm wondering if Tie Dye Liquid Pour is something to try!
Loved it!
YOUR VIDEOS ARE FREAKIN AWESOME!! Keep up the quality content!
Have I told u ,u rock ur one of my idle I think ya just solved my base problem 😉 ty
so glad to help!
@@MOLLYSARTISTRY yes 😊 I really love ur work u r one of my mentors I am a Canadian artist 😍
THANK YOU SO MUCH. I REALLY NEEDED THESE TIPS. 🌺
TY IM LEARNING ALOT U EXPLAINED THE RATIO SO I COULD UNDERSTAND. Thank you
So when do you use this for a base or is it for every kind of painting pours? Im so confused is this considered a bloom?
Thanks so much for the great information ❣️
You are welcome! Thanks for watching!
Great tips! Yes i finally got a rubber mallet and it is much better!!
I love your videos! Very inspiring. I mixed my base paint with your recipe, but get so many Pearl cells and they eat all my color. Any suggestions? I did not add water, used same paint, same Flo, same GAC same Liquitex in your measurements and consistency. Any ideas??
Very informative thank you! How do you dispose of ur paint?? Tht might b a good video too for everyone 😊😉❤️
MOLLY'S ARTISTRY ok cool thank you! 😉
When using this as a base paint can you add some color paint to it like blue or black etc. to have a different color base?
That's so helpful thanks for sharing! 😊
do you have to mix all the bits in there or can you just use it straight from the bottle/can?
Thank you so much for this great tutorial!!!!🤗❤
I love your videos. They are so detailed and informative. I do have a question for you. When do you use house paint mix vs Acrylic Fluid paint for your bases? I’ve been trying to do dutch pours with house paint thinned out with US Floetrol and Water, and it looks like my base paint is swallowing my colours and everything is turning out pastel, or they are not flowing well.
Hi Molly, tried my first pouring with house paint, but messed up in the mix - a little too thick. Will try it again...
Also floetrol dries matte and I like a glossy sheen to my paintings
Great video. I probably wouldn’t make as big a batch as you so what would be a good size batch white paint in ounces?
32 oz or 64
For 32 ounces, how much paint, floetrol and water?
Very informative video! If you are using black as your base paint, do you buy the gallon of black and add to it?
you can
Hey Molly, love your channel and new to fluid art but liking my work most of the time 😊 Do you still use the same recipe for your base paint since the video is a few years old??
Have done this for years. Wonderful to save paint and less mess!
Hi Molly-----------Luv this video--------I am new to paint pouring. When you pour the white paint mixture on the canvas do I have to wait for it to dry before I start pouring my paints on the canvas?
Thank you so much Molly . That was so informative. I can’t get GAC800 in Canada. I have no idea why or where to get it.
Thank you so much. I learn SO much from you
Thanks pam!
Thanks!! What recipe do you recommend with using white house paint to make the "pillow paint" for your blooms or art with blow dryer? Thanks!
Very helpful - thank you Molly!
Love your videos. Do you still varnish all your paintings after completion even if you use that medium that has varnish in it mixed with your paints?
@@MOLLYSARTISTRY oh thank you so so much for your reply! I am thinking of using a pouring medium with it!
I should have the finished the video before messaging you. You mentioned the black base paint. Thank you so much for your videos.
Do I use the same recipe for a black base or do I use black paint instead of white?
Any thing pop into your head about what would cause this? thanks!! Bob
hi bob! what brand of pain are you using for the base?
Thank you
I have used black semi gloss, but I normally just use regular acrylic for black.
Hi Molly.....when you use a black background what black paint do you use?
I use all kinds, amsterdam, creative inspirations, artist loft, I have even used semi gloss black
The satin doesn't do it as much
MOLLY'S ARTISTRY Thank you so much for your response! So 25% acrylic paint, maybe 50% house paint, and 25% water?
House paint for your base? Is that better to use especially for the base layer? Could I just mix it with water and none of the other things? I have to be careful with chemicals.
